I told the man on the phone that my family would be here a few weeks before the service and we could come in and pay and sign the papers. He said that this was fine. We'll my family got to town and I called Mcdougals. They said they would pass on the message and someone would return the call. No one ever called. So Monday, 6 days before the service I called 3 times and was told someone would call me back. Finally I called again on Tuesday and someone from the funeral home answered and transferred me to Chris. I told him I needed to finalize the pay for the plans that I had already made with someone else a month before. He said there was no record but could help me. I told him what I needed and he said that he would email me a contract to sign and it would all be taken care of. Well I get the contract and the $800.00 was all the sudden $2000.00. This would be an extra $1000.00 because he was being layed to rest on the weekend. Being in shock I called Chris back and told him this was not the price that I was told earlier. He said he had no idea who I talked to before and that there were 13 people that planned funeral at this business. Now that sure seems like a lot of planners for one funeral home of a small town. He then was angry and telling me that what they always charge but he would go ahead and take that charge away. MMMMM thats interesting. Chris was the most unprofessional person I have ever dealt with. Being someone getting ready to bury my father it is obvious he has no compassion for this job and should maybe try a used car dealership, his attitude is perfect for that job. She had made and paid for her final arrangements so we didn't have to worry about them. When the time came, we called Swan Burial and Cremation. They took care of everything, which was a godsend during our grief. Mom had arranged for cremation. Her ashes were returned to us and an extremely difficult time was made much easier. The owner who met with us was gentle and compassionate, exactly what we needed. Although we are not planning on leaving anytime soon, my husband and I discussed making our arrangements ahead of time, to spare our daughter from having to make those decisions. Mr. Douglas came to the house to discuss what we wanted. A very nice man, Doug explained what services were available, including viewing, a service, a funeral, or cremation. He quoted the prices, which we felt were fair, and made our decisions. He completed the necessary paperwork and we were done. We learned is that the money paid in advance is held as a life insurance policy by an independent insurance company. Final arrangement are secured at today's prices. Also, the policy guarantees that the contracted services will be provided even if the funeral home is no longer in business.

Additionally, my dad would periodically take me to visit his brother's grave, though with the nature of his passing, it was always a harder visit. Sadly, as the years have passed, more of my family reside here. My Nanny passed very suddenly. Cancer diagnosis on a Wednesday and passed on a Friday. In 2006, the family found themselves quickly making accommodations that were unexpected. My grandpa said it was a pretty easy process, and he appreciated being able to future purchase to be buried with her. This made it incredibly easy when he would pass 8 years later as my aunt would take care of those accommodations without the financial burden. As for pricing, we all know it is not cheap to do so though I've heard it's fairly comparable to the surrounding area. The grounds have been well kept the last thirty years that I've frequented here, and my family has continued to chose this location as their final resting place. The grounds are well kept, there is plenty of parking, and most of the staff is very compassionate and friendly. I will mention that one receptionist in particular was very rude to my mother when we arrived. My Mom began to make her way toward the service we were attending and the woman at the front desk was very snippy with my Mom and told her not to go near the room where the service was being held. She said "It's not ready yet, the family is still setting up!!" My mom asked if she could just sit on the chairs outside the chapel and wait for them to finish setting up, the lady said "NO" with lots of attitude and frustration. I was completely beside myself on that type of behavior! So we sat in the front lobby on the chairs provided. There are 4 chairs in the main lobby, which suited our needs. Just when I thought I had already seen it all, the same woman gets up from her desk and storms over to the chapel area where the service would be held.... Muttering under her breath, walking briskly, and pulls the doors closed... Then continues back to her desk to sit down. I'm not sure if this is her normal behavior, but it could be argued that her personality type doesn't exactly jive with the typical crowd that attend a funeral home.... They also offer water bottles to guests & have a snack machine in the lobby. There are several rooms available for funeral services, which are spacious and comfortable. I will say that I was surprised to see that the pews are not bolted into the floor... I used the back of the pew to help myself up after a service & it disturbed the bench in front of me... That was embarrassing. All in all, the place is exactly what you'd expect. Aside from the rude woman that greets you as you enter the building. We have many relatives that are buried here & others that have been cremated. Aside from Fridays experience, I have never had a complaint about my encounters here.
