Vinitus was one of the great restaurants we tried on our trip to Barcelona this is in Carrer d' Aragó, 282 Barcelona! The food was amazing, every dish we tried was delicious and well presented. We loved the mix of seafood, meat, and traditional Spanish flavors. The ambiance was warm and cozy, perfect for a relaxed and quiet dinner. Meeting our Pinoy kababayan on the staff made the experience more memorable from the Chef's to service staff's, they took such great care of us and made us feel at home. We were looking for the other restaurant with a similar name but ended up here! Walked in a found seating by the bar after a long flight. We got a variety of tapas and some were more liked than others. The service was friendly and prompt and a great way to kick out our visit to Barcelona. Dishes we enjoyed were the salmon with cream cheese over bread, Iberico ham, and the grilled octopus which was extremely fresh and well seasoned. The lobster rice and grilled shell-on shrimp skewers were okay, and cleaning them on the plate to get to the edible meat wasn't an experience I cared for. This little tapas restaurant is a true gem. Everything we tried was absolutely delicious, but we were especially wowed by the melon with Iberico ham. The melon was super sweet and slightly grilled, and the ham was thinly sliced and added a nice saltiness that complemented the melon. Prices were very reasonable. The space was very tight, we ordered food, there were so many plates and no one came to clear them after we finished. Forks and knives kept slipping off the crowded table. The dishes themselves tasted good, but the service was chaotic and unprofessional. Maybe it was also because we spoke English and their English wasn't very good. read more

What a great restaurant. I liked that they served some traditional tapas as well more modern items. I had the russian salad with tuna belly, Spanish omelet and razor clams. Both the salad and omelet had potatoes in it (I wish this was noted in the menu as I was expecting the russian salad to come with green leafy vegetables). The salad was a potato salad. Nonetheless, everything was excellent. I particularly liked the clams which was tender and had a mild brininess. As recommended by a Barcelona resident, I had the sangria with cava which was light and fruity. Sangria made with sparkling wine is definitely better than the typical red or white wine. We found Vinitus upon the recommendation of a store down the street, and the recommendation did not do Vinitus justice. We were treated to some of the best tapas, wine, and service we could have hoped for. Sitting at the bar near where food was prepared we not only got to see how the paella came out but also the art of how the beef Wellington was prepared. Chef Herme even came over and spent time discussing the unique preparation of the paella and made us feel like such valued patrons. As Chef Ali was slicing the Beef Wellington we were treated to its awesome flavors. I Highly recommend this restaurant if you are visiting to Barcelona. We spent 74 euros for a lot of great food. It was a meal we would typically pay $300 USD for in America. The beef and foie gras was the best selection we made. If you like foie gras, this is the place to go. The foie gras portion size put American restaurants to shame. The beef was rare and delicious too. The service is really well done. The waiter made two great suggestions for us. The fish was so amazing, my wife requested a second portion. We didn't have a reservation and sat outside without any delay. We had a small table but they delivered the food in segments so it could fit. Love love LOVE this place. It was the first place I had dinner on the first night in Barcelona and the food just blew me AWAY. I love tapas because you can try so many different things, and I remember every plate we had was so good. Their sangria was also beautiful, even my date at the time who rarely drinks thought it was great. They were also open late which was helpful because we arrived late -- we didn't leave for dinner until 10PM and finished/went back to the hotel at midnight. We sat at the bar area and even though we didn't have our own actual table it was kinda cool to see all the tapas ingredients and some of the prep. We felt like the server came very regularly as well - every time we finished one plate they came to ask about others. This place was also centrally located and convenient since our hotel was close by; im sure that would also be the case for many folks saying in central Barcelona. This is the new, smaller outpost of the popular Vinitus tapas bar nearby. The menu is similar though the feel is more casual. I tried both spots during my trip and preferred this one for the better execution of simple ingredients and freshness. We walked in and sat at the bar in front of the impressive display of fresh seafood. Pan Con Tomate - Meant to be generously doused with olive oil, the other Vinitus took it a little too far, while this had a more balanced amount of oil. Tortilla - Much softer and fluffier here, with a better ratio of cheese. Gambas al Ajillo - Pretty standard at both spots, but I've honestly had better in the US. Langoustine - This came with a sticky glaze on the tail. The meat was tender. Pimientos de padron - Simple, well seasoned with flake salt. Calamares a la romana - If only all fried calamari were this fresh! Very soft squid, not rubbery at all. Batter was lightly crunchy and not greasy. Tiny Clams - Simple preparation with little if any seasoning. Sangria - Red wine base, not too sweet, with citrus. Be careful, goes down like juice! We came here on a Thursday night, the last night of our visit in Barcelona. Recommended by our hotel and within walking distance. We were seated immediately towards the back of the restaurant and service was exceptional. We ordered calamari, green peppers, paella, octopus, filet with foie gras and grilled catfish. We also had shandy (lemon with beer) and red wine. The calamari and green peppers were fine! The octopus was under seasoned and came with some strange potato-like mushy stuff. This was a bad dish. The filet with foie gras on bread was also a major miss - the foie gras was too thick and had a very gamey taste. Another miss! The paella was boring and came with two prawns. Our waitress recommended the grilled catfish. Arrived raw! We should have cancelled it because it was under flavored and frankly, i couldn't enjoy it as I kept checking to make sure it wasn't raw. Overall, the service was great and for the price, we can't complain. The food was quite disappointing and we ordered everything recommended by the waitress. If you are looking for authentic tapas, this is the spot. Don't let the wait and crowd inside the restaurant fool you but it's definitely worth it. We were seated at the bar area which was a great place because we watched how the cooks prepped everything and the servers mixed the drinks. My mom and I shared the caprese salad, mozzarella salad, bravas, steamed mussels and beef tenderloin sandwiches. Both the salads came in generous portions as well as the steamed mussels. The sauces on the bravas were excessive so I had to dab some off the plate. The beef tenderloin sandwiches were soft and small but it was perfect because we were getting full lol Our food took a bit of a while to come out but it's okay because it was busy and the sangria kept us content. At first the waitress seemed annoyed because after all they were closing in 40 minutes or so.we wouldn't usually go to a restaurant so near their closing time, but we had a long day wandering the streets of Barcelona and were HUNGRY. The line out the door of both locals and tourists is a clue that this restaurant is a good spot. Great food with a wide selection of menu items, the only drawback to this restaurant is that it is seriously packed and rushed, there's no time for contemplating the menu options. The by-the-glass wine selection should be a little bigger, but this is a strange issue all over the city I suppose, but they could definitely enhance the dining experience (not to mention check totals) if they had more options. The food is really good if somewhat conventionally prepared but the dessert list is an amazing bargain at less than 3 euro, plus insanely delicious. The bread pudding is fabulous.
