Vino Bono was recommended to us by some locals while we were on a tour in Rome. We had one free evening on our own, so we took a taxi from our hotel and arrived right at opening. We were seated immediately outdoors in their tented, street-side dining area.
This ended up being the only time I had Cacio e Pepe during our trip. It came with a thick spaghetti, and it was everything I had hoped for--creamy, rich, and full of flavor. We also ordered an artichoke appetizer and glasses of wine. I didn't particularly enjoy the artichoke, but I generally only like them when it's just the heart; I'm not a fan of the leaves. The wine, however, was excellent, and everything was reasonably priced.
The service was also excellent. Our server spoke a bit of English, and we spoke a bit of Italian, so communication was easy enough.
Overall, we really appreciated the chance to dine at a local establishment. It felt wonderful to step away from the more tourist-heavy areas and experience authentic Roman flavors in a relaxed setting. read more
