A very nice and approachable store to drop by. They specialize in importing European wines, and most are under $20. I always want to try new wines but don't want to spend that much money on wine, so this is perfect for me! The woman working there was really nice and recommended a Spanish red and sparking wine, both of which were really tasty. I also grabbed 2 bottles of albarino that I had never seen before. My dad and I recently decided we really like albarino, and he's literally bought every type of albarino at Total Wine and BevMo. He's came by for dinner last week and we tried them - he had never seen these either! read more

Great customer service and recommendations! I've come in a few times and always leave with something within my price range (usually $10-20/bottle) with a nice story/background of the wine. Vino was once a decent shop with helpful staff. Gone are those days. It is now never open on time and the phone is never answered. There are some decent wines at ok prices but the lack of a knowledgeable and helpful staff makes this place obsolete given the great wine shops close by. I think the nail in the coffin for me was when I asked the person working which wines would pair with a meal I was making and the response was "I don't drink wine". I almost laughed out loud because I thought it was a joke. It wasn't. read more

In contrast to some of the other reviewers here, I've always had great service at Vino. Within a minute or two of coming in, they'll ask politely if there's something they can help me find. And they do ask "Will that be all today" (or some variant) when you come to the counter to check out, but I view that as the same standard "Did you find everything you were looking for today" line you get at the grocery store. A few of the employees are a bit quiet/introverted by nature, but if you get them talking about what they love (I'll give you one guess what that might be) I assure you you'll have a great conversation. What I've come to like most about Vino is the range and quality. It's a small store, so they can't stock everything. But the recommendations I've received for the $40 gift or special occasion bottle have been spot on. And so have the recommendations for the more "every day" $7-10 bottles. So far, I haven't been able to find better quality for the price at any other store. read more

One of the first things you learn as an Environmental educator is when asked a question you don't know, the response is "I don't know, but let's look it up together" This place struck me the same way when I walked in, the nice Woman answered my questions and during our conversation stated the vino equivalent " it's about what you like" I even baited a bit looking for any hint of snobbery. Definitely worth stopping in. Let's say you walk in and don't know anything about wine (hypothetically, me), mumble a few words you've heard wine people say, stop to feel embarrassed, continue with a couple rambles about what you're eating for dinner and some flavors you like, and finish with an unintelligible stutter. Somehow(!) the lady working there is able to pick apart your confused tirade and recommend two wines that are absolutely perfect, just what you wanted but didn't know you wanted. I had a really great experience here. Popped in during my lunch break, looking for Obsidian Ridge Cabernet specifically. I don't know who was managing the store today, but he was in the middle of meeting with some wine sales guys and made it a point to pause and ask me how I was doing and if I needed help, to just holler. They were out of Obsidian Ridge 2012, waiting for the 2013 to come in next week, so I asked for some help. He made an excellent, thoughtful suggestion and I went home with the Calvino Jones Pomo Ranch Cab. The replacement was exactly what I was looking for and I'll be back! read more

I give this place 2 stars, not because of the great selection of reasonably priced wine, but due to the horrible service by the weekend help. We arrived at 11:15 this morning to find the store closed even though it said it opened at 11 on Sundays. After running a few errands, we returned thirty minutes later to a sign that read "Back in 5 mins." Hire better employees Vino, maybe a few who can arrive at work on time and do a competent job manning a register. read more

The two stars I give this place aren't because it's a bad wine store. They have a decent selection of wines at a good price. I'm giving this two stars because when I went in the service was terrible. I went in around 10:30 this morning, and I was literally the only person in the small shop. The man working at the register didn't say a word to me until I was ready to check out. No "good morning" or "can I help you with anything?" He just stared at me. If there were other people in the store or he appeared to be doing anything at all I would forgive him, but under the circumstances his reaction was rude. There are other, similar wine shops I've been to in my neighborhood and I'll shop at any of those before ever going back in here. read more

A small but nice selection, doesn't have the cheap mass produced wines but rather a selection of good wines with a range of prices. Seems to have all the major bases covered. An OK selection of wines but I had a bad experience here. I was in a hurry and looking to pick up a baguette and didn't have time to look a the wine. When I went to pay I first got a rather snarky "Is that all?". When I realized that I didn't have any cash an offered my debit card I then received the response "We don't take credit cards for bread." OK, now it is understandable to say something like, Sorry we need a minimum purchase of $10, etc which would have been fine. Perhaps the some snootiness from the Wood Tavern next door seeped through the walls. Do yourself a favor: Skip Vino and its high brow BS and go down the road to Vintage Berkeley. read more

Decent store with a decent selection of wines considering the size of it. What's nice is a good selection of those "off the beaten path" California wineries. You see stuff from Livermore, Central Coast, Sierra Foothills, along with the standard Napa and Sonoma which is everywhere. Also a good selection of Spanish, Italian, and French varietals. read more

Went in looking for a good bottle of wine, as a treat for myself, but left empty-handed. The guy working had a poor attitude and offered poor service, so I took my business across the street to Safeway. went to vino on 63rd and college to buy some wine for a great grill fest. had groceries in my hand and the lone person the clerk didn't bother helping in , opening the door or with a wine selection. So I bought a bottle of Mc Kinlay 09 Pinot Noir, Williamette Valley. Well the wine is only slightly better than the service. Don' bother with either. BTW the PN was on the light color ( garnet shade) with varietal character and hints of french barrel floral vanillians ok not bad but thin and the flavor taste was light fruit smokey focused not complex at all with a tart finish.....not a long lingering ask me back for another sip taste. boo hoo to both vino and the vino. read more

Vino completes the neighborhood. Their selection is be a bit strong on imported wines, but maybe that's what most of their customers want. I'm pleased to find new Dry Creek and Russian River Zins each time I go in, as well as modest old vine wines from Lodi and Amador County. Not sure the names of the proprietors, but they are very easy to talk to and glad to set aside their tasks to explain and answer my questions. read more

This is my favorite wine shop. They have had a great wine for any occasion -- something for a special occasion, something to take to a BBQ, or something just nice and reasonably priced to open during the week. Anyone working in the store has always been helpful without being overbearing. Sometimes I just want to browse for a while...then ask for help if I didn't find something on my own. I love that they often have something I've never tried! If I ask for a big wine to go with a specific meal, they have pointed me to a great option. If I want something lighter to go with a lighter meal, they have pointed me to a great option. And I LOVE the 7 packs!! I have never been disappointed with any of the wines included in the packs I've purchases (and I get them pretty regularly). Don't expect to see the big names, but that's not why I go there. I go to Vino to get exceptional boutique wines I would never find somewhere else. read more
