This was our first visit to Vino Vargas. Owner/Wine maker Pedro was an exceptional host. He took the time to walk us through the process for making Sparkling Wine. What a treat. Enjoyed all his wines. Bought a Pinot Nior and a Grenache. Will definately be back and tell others!

Great selection of wines produced here in San Miguel. Call for an appointment and Pedro and Vicky will be the perfect hosts. I particularly like the reds including a terrific Cab and Tempernillo. They also have a delicious Alberiño and Chardonnay. The Rose is great too and watch for a sparkling wine on the horizon.

We stayed up in their AirBnB house (with a pool!) and came down the road for the wine tasting on Saturday, not knowing anything about the place or what to expect. And let me tell you, the star of the show, not the wines, although they were very tasty... it was FRED!! Our server. He worked with the family and helped all of us through the tasting. Fred took us through the seven wines on the list (SEVEN. For $15 a person! A deal!!) and this man is a heavy pour. These were full Glasses(tm) of wine. By the end we were all chatting it up and my only wish was that there were food options available, if only to slow the alcohol down. We ended up grabbing our own snacks from the house halfway through. You can waive a tasting by purchasing a bottle, and we ended up going in on a case of the Affinity and waived all the tasting costs. The place is beautiful and there is a wide event space that looks perfect for a ceremony or gathering. The inside is cute with a small shop and a clean bathroom. Loved it here. If youre the owner, give Fred a gold star sticker for me. He earned it.

Clearly, the universe had plans. But honestly, what impressed me most about Riverstar Vineyards wasn't just the wine -- it was the family behind it. Learning how each member contributes their own talents to the winery made the entire experience feel wonderfully genuine, collaborative, and refreshingly personal. There's something very special about businesses where you can still feel the people behind the vision. I also loved learning more about the Pleasant Valley Wine Trail collective itself... wineries supporting one another while also helping fund local agricultural scholarships and education efforts together. That kind of community spirit is exactly what makes Paso Robles wine country feel different. Warm people, beautiful wines, and a genuinely lovely evening all around. And yes... I'm still trying to figure out where to store 14 bottles... Not!

Richard's passion for all things olive translates into olive oils that are healthy, delicious, and enjoyable. We felt like we earned a Master's Degree in olive-ology. Richard's wealth of knowledge is phenomenal. This was such a wonderful and fun experience. If you schedule a tour you need at least 2.5 hours. We were actually there for 3.5 hours and it was worth every minute. Thanks, Richard, for imparting your love for olives. Can't wait to return with friends. We have toured four other Olive ranches in Paso, and this is by far THE BEST, THE MOST INFORMATIVE, and THE MOST EXCELLENT EVOOs.

We planned a trip to see his farm on the last day of our trip. I sadly can't drink right now, so what else is there to do outside of family activities and wineries? Olive oil farming! It was a great way to end our time on the central coast. Richard started by telling us about his story of becoming the Olive oil man. He helped us learn about Olive trees (we had brought a branch from our tree), the olives themselves, and the milling process. He brought us into his tasting room, and we tried various oils and a vinegar, as wells as a few flavor pairings. We really have a new appreciation for not only olives, Olive oils, and farming, but Richard and smaller, non-commercial farmers. Every bottle is a labor of love crafted by him, his wife, and even his dog. The visit felt like we had visited an uncle, and we did buy oils (he definitely doesn't ask you to, but after tasting then and knowing the process, you definitely want to.) We were going to send some as gifts, but it's hard to appreciate something as much unless you've experienced it. We experienced the San Miguel Olive Farm and we're better for it. Thanks again Richard! We definitely will try to come up one October to experience the harvesting to complete the journey.

Domaine Degher Winery, San Miguel, CA, March 28, 2024…read more Domaine Degher is a beautiful little tasting room at the top of a hill looking out onto the Salinas River and surrounding valley below. It is owned and operated by Mr. Dennis Degher, a kind experienced gentleman who knows how to show his guests a nice time. Wine tasting is $30 per person, waived with the purchase of wine. Wine tasting is by appointment only. We made an 11 am appointment for a Thursday morning. There is an automatic gate at the bottom of the hill and you call to have it opened when you arrive. Mr. Degher greeted us when we arrived at the top of the hill. He has an indoor and outdoor tasting area. It was such a beautiful morning, we did our tasting on the patio outdoors. We tried several wines, including a Viognier, Chardonnay, a couple grenaches, a few cab blends, and a beautiful unfiltered port. All the wines we tried were very good. After tasting wine, Mr. Degher took us for stroll around his property. He gave us cuttings of rosemary, lavender, oregano, and bay leaf. We bought 4 bottles of wine, which waived our tasting fee. Mr. Degher is also an accomplished musician who has composed and performed many songs, which he has recorded and can be purchased on CD. Don't miss an opportunity to visit this beautiful little gem at the top of the hill!
