This location was formerly Sarzotti winery which we loved and had visited many times. The Sarzotti's retired and sold to Asuncion. At first I was disappointed that they were not selling any of the Sarzotti wines being stored in tanks but had their own wines with higher prices. After the first two red wines I was not impressed but things got better and we had two wines that were very good and decided to purchase a few bottles. Our server was very nice and we had some good conversation about the changes to the winery. Pours were generous and we had a great time. read more

Paso Robles is a more modern wine country. Instead of having wineries having history from the past century, most of them sprouted from 1970 on, with a huge surge in the past 20 years. So without all that rigid tradition comes a brave new approach and attitude. This was my 3rd and final tasting on my trip, so I was starting to see some pieces fit. I learned that Paso thrives with the Rhone grapes. Syrahs, Grenache and Mourvedre. Even though Cabernets do exist here, they were always just alright with none being top notch. But when you took those "just alright" cabs and blended them with the Rhone grapes, it just took off to a higher plane. I didn't even know that this was a thing, until I came here. Wine makers here like to taste isolated wines, evaluate them and try to come up with a blend that will showcase the strong points of each varietal. Often the blend will be way more smooth than drinking the isolated wine on their own. This is an artform that I acknowledge and will happily support if it fits my palate. And like most art, it will differ from person to person. Since this winery is fairly young, they don't have their own wine making facility. Rather they contract space and time with another winery, so there isn't a "winery" to visit. Instead many of these modern wineries have set up tasting rooms in downtown Paso. A handful of them are actually within walking distance of each other in the towns retail center. So it is great for the taster, as you're able to taste from place to place on foot traffic. Brilliant in my eyes. This tasting room is clean and spacious. There are 2 couch areas to lounge in with a group. There's some high top tables for smaller groups. There's one large table for a group tasting. And there's the intimate bar where you can really go one on one with the pourer/host. Took home a couple of bottles, with one of them being their blended "Nefarious" which is the winemakers pride. Very smooth with that baked red fruit nuance. At $58 a bottle, I'm sure it is gonna find its way toward a pretty special dinner. read more

Heather (staff), you are the best! We were walking by when she was bringing in the shop sign as they were closing soon for the day! She insisted that we come in if we wanted to check it out and have a tasting! Super dog friendly and we got to meet her 4 legged buddy, Rocky. What a sweetie. Our dog was welcomed and was offered water. The space was clean, well decorated and nicely laid out. High top tables or couches. Great! 5 wines for the tasting and they were all quite good. Good timing on the pours. Like most places, buy a bottle of wine for around $40 and get 1 tasting free. So, we did that and have a nice bottle of Zin for another day! We did not feel rushed but did not stay too long this visit given that they were closing early for the holiday. We would love to come back despite all of the options for tastings in the area. It is in a great, visible area and right across the street from the City Park. A really comfortable visit and I cannot give any less than a 5 for the wine, space and service. read more

We went tasting with friends who are members (note: the tasting room is no longer downtown- they have a full winery on Peachy Canyon now) The place they have moved into is so serene. Every wine we tasted was wonderful and the people are so friendly. We had a great visit and ended up joining the wine club. It's telling that every guest our friends have brought tasting ended up joining. That says something. Especially since we're all locals and have access to some of the best wineries in California just a short drive away. read more

Let me start with the customer service- I didn't get her name but she has beautiful red hair and is just so sweet and welcoming, her knowledge of the wine and the area was very much appreciated!!! We absolutely fell in love with the Pinot noir, I am normally not a a big fan but it was just perfect. My best friend and I ended up walking away with 2 bottles. Was visiting Paso Robles used by the train without much planning. Saw that this winery was about a 35 mile minute walk into the hills from downtown. The winery itself was lovely, down to earth and the owner and staff were really kind and helpful. They carry a variety of wines including a gsm, pinot noir, and cab and zin blends. They have another vineyard to the west closer to morro bay where they source the Pinot, and the more heat tolerant varietals are sourced on site I think. All the wines were really good. We especially like the gsm (called Salacious) but all the wines wines we tasted were very good. The tasting was more reasonable in price for nowadays(20 per) and they brought out additional wines based upon what we wanted more of. Joined the wine club and the tasting fee was waved. The wine club shipment is customizable. They are a small production winery. We really recommend stopping by and trying the wines when you are visiting. Try walking from town, but be careful since there is no shoulder on the road in some places. read more

I loved this tasting room and its casual yet very knowledgeable staff,who welcomed us even though we were a large group (6) arriving without an appointment on a busy Friday afternoon (Fathers Day weekend and graduations at nearby Cal Poopy SLO that packed the town). Our servers in spite of the crowds and our large size really made us feel welcomed. Kept the wine tasting moving and spent all the time needed to answer our questions and explain what made their wines unique. We loved their wines enough to enjoy taking home a few bottles. Their prices were reasonable for the quality, certainly affordable. I don't get the comments "very expensive' unless those folks only buy two buck chuck or similar. They have a really large, very nice gift area in the store. Got a really nice leatherette wine box for 2 bottles for less than $25. All in all a very delightful experience and worth adding to your list of places to see in beautiful downtown Paso Robles. read more

Phillip has created a beautiful Italian-style retreat which makes the adventurous drive (definitely arrive in daylight) all the more worthwhile. There's three rooms each with a private patio, which is in addition to the many separated patios on the house. I really appreciated the design--you can have as much privacy as you want, given the layout of the interior and exterior rooms. A bottle of Asuncion Ridge's excellent pinot was open for the guests on arrival and in the evening, Mr. B. and I sat outside to enjoy the incredible stars-and-sattelites show with a complimentary glass of port. Truly heaven. After enjoying a delicious breakfast, Mr. B. mentioned not feeling well which unfortunately ramped up to intense agony within five minutes. Phillip truly went above and beyond the call of innkeeper-duty; he gave directions to 911, stayed calm, and kept his wits about him (unlike me) during this incredibly scary and upsetting experience. Long story short, Mr. B. was experiencing the not uncommon pain of passing a kidney stone (separate Yelp review for Twin Cities Hospital and Atascadero's fire dept. and ambulance service coming...), so while the pain was intense, the whole surreal ordeal was over by the end of the afternoon. We were able to return to Asuncion Ridge in the evening, take a relaxing soak in the huge tub, and even have a little wine while visiting with the other couple who were also staying there. Even without Phillip's amazing assistance and kindness during the kidney adventure, Asuncion Ridge was deserving of 5 stars. Now if only Yelp awarded medals... read more

If I could give more than 5 stars I would! Spent 3 days at what I would call paradise! Philip has created the most romantic as well as the most spectacular B&B a person could ever want! The views are spectacular no matter were you are in the Inn. The open "common areas" are beautifully decorated, warm & inviting to relax in. The bedrooms are spectacular, decor amazing as well as comfortable. The private patios off each bedroom as well as the main ones all have a beautiful view, perfect for relaxing with a glass of one of Philip's AMAZING wines! Philip not only created magic with his beautiful Inn and his amazing wines but he creates pure magic each morning with his "to die for" breakfasts! Booked a room for my wife's birthday based on reviews and we were not disappointed. The room/bed was very comfortable and the house has been well designed for guests and is very well decorated. It was a little inclimate on Saturday due to a system that rolled through on the night before but on Sunday we got a great view as you can see all the way Morro Rock an the ocean. Philip was a great host and made a couple of awesome breakfasts and in the evening he puts out a sampling of his fine wine which we enjoyed so much we brought about a case home after visiting the tasting room in Paso. It's just under a 20 minute drive upfrom 101 but well worth it. Do yourself a favor a book a stay at the Asuncion Ridge Inn. You'll avoid the hotel crowds, get an awesome view of the Central Coast,great food and wine and some relaxation. Plus it's an easy drive into Paso if you want to sample some of the local eateries for dinner. read more

Yes, 5 stars!!! Not only did they impress with the location and decor of the tasting room (right next to the town square park), Theresa was a lot of fun, knowledgable, and even hand delivered our bottle to the Inn after work so we could go around town more! The wine was amazing, and unlike others we found later, they didn't charge extra for the cheese pairing they did that night. Great staff, friendly, local personality, and service to make it a destination worth recommending. Business wise, we were lucky to meet Phillip, the main man with the plan, who has a great story.
