I submitted my W-2 as well as my 1099 and wrote all of the expenses I wanted to get written off on a piece of paper which was attached to my documents. While I was pleased that everything was done in a timely matter, I was quite dissatisfied with the fact that the deductions I wanted applied were not. The firm stated that everything I asked to get written off was included in the return. I had to come back twice on the top of my original visit with each time finding out not everything was written off. If I didn't check, the firms negligence would have cost me an additional ~$5,000 in federal and state taxes. I was not offered any discounts on the tax preparation costs nor did I even receive an apology for making multiple mistakes and making me come back multiple times. I had a terrible experience and will be taking my business elsewhere next year.

My last straw with a declining business. This stems back to a dispute from last tax year--they did not review my return carefully, resulting in a careless error in reporting out of state income I documented and a five-month delay in getting my state refund. They were casual and non-communicative about a letter from the state with a deadline for response, to which I had to rush a reply to get a postmark to be in legal compliance. They were indifferent that a significant refund was at stake. In a previous year, a server went down and they lost all returns. Careless. Another year we had to submit additional documentation to the state as they said that their software had a glitch which affected many clients' returns. Bureaucratic and unreliable. Tony used to provide a personal touch. But it's a large bureaucratic operation, he doesn't even give a simply reply like "I'm working on this matter" when he is CC'd on an urgent matter. The receptionist tell you "it was on Tony's calendar for last week," not "Tony has taken care of this." It used to be in person annual appointments, then went to Zoom, and then became by telephone. The amount of time was reduced very year, even as fees outpaced inflation. It's overpriced, and the service and reliability are not at all what they used to be. Tony used to be a nice guy and very professional, but he's only a shadow of what he used to be.

He misspelled one of our names and put the wrong address on our tax return, basic information that should absolutely be correct. When we asked to sit down with him for a few minutes to review everything and make sure it was accurate, he flat-out refused and became immediately nasty. At that point, we asked for our check back so we could have our taxes done elsewhere by someone who would actually give us the time of day. He told us he had already cashed it, so we asked him to write us a check. He did but then, as he was handing it to us, he pulled it back to make a copy. He then handed us the copy and sarcastically asked why we would need a copy of a check. When we said because he handed it to us, he responded, "Yeah, because I wanted to see how little you pay attention." It only got worse. He told us the only reason he agreed to do our taxes was because of who our family is, and that we couldn't possibly be related to them because we are "too stupid." When we reminded him that we were there because he made mistakes and that he should be apologizing instead of belittling us, he said "I don't apologize". Completely unprofessional, disrespectful, and unacceptable behavior, especially from someone handling something as important as your taxes. There is a reason this firm has so many one-star reviews. On top of that, his bookkeeping is atrocious - He will send you bills even though you already paid him long ago . He will make appointments for you to come in and he doesn't show up. He will tell you he called the IRS or the State or wrote letters on your behalf and you later find out no such calls or letters were ever made. I first went to consult David back in March 2022 and he was great. He answered all my tax questions and I was in and out of the office in no time. I thought to myself, great, I just found an amazing accountant in my neighborhood. During that time, I explained to David about my situation and he responded to come back to me when tax season is over and all he has to do is to file a 1040x (to amend my tax return - 1040). (Side note: The issue that I had was that I initially e-filed my taxes. The federal rejected it but the state accepted it. Which is why I went to seek professional services in resolving the problem). So on December 12, 2022 at 1:30pm I went to see David and his office was busy. I told David I did not have an appointment and I asked, "should I make an appointment"? He decided to hear me out at first but then he passed my case to one of his employees. The employee explained to me that since I did not file my taxes 2020 taxes with them, there is nothing that they can do and I would have to come back during tax season. I tried to explain to them what David told me back in April (to come back after tax season) and David told his employee in Chinese "just ignore him, he is too annoying". Yup, just because someone doesn't speak the language, doesn't mean the person does not understand. The funny thing is that, just over the weekend, the same family friend asked me how was my experience with David because she wanted to file her taxes with him for the upcoming year. I raved about how great he was the first time around but after this experience, it got me to think: if a family friend doesn't even use your service in the first place, it is extremely telling of your professional demeanor or the lack thereof.
