My wife and I went in for dinner. I've lived in Clayton for 14 years and I can't remember what this building was before, but they did a heck of a job turning into this restaurant. Very nice inside and great outdoor section as well. We had the pretzel sticks for an appetizer- which were great. I had the buffalo chicken sandwich and my wife had a chicken caesar salad. We both enjoyed our meal. The only complaint was the salad needed more dressing (we should've asked for an extra side of dressing). They just started setting up for the live music when we were finished. Maybe next time we will stay to hear it. Staff was super friendly on arrival, ordering, and leaving. We will be back! Thanks for giving us a local small business option here in Clayton. We would way rather support you than a bigger chain restaurant in Garner or Knightdale. Keep it up! read more

After reading lots of mixed reviews about this place, I decided to check it our for myself. For my first visit there, I think they did a great job with my order and customer service. The buffalo cauliflower was awesome and my wings were crispy. For anyone expecting fine dining, it's not for you but for what they serve, they did a great job. On any given visit it may be different but I'm hoping for consistency. The only negative was that they currently do not have a drink menu but the waitress said it's coming. My fiancé and I came here for the first time and we loved everything! We started with the Bavarian pretzels which were amazing with homemade cheese dipping sauce. My fiancé ordered the philly cheese steak with sweet potato fries. He ate all of it! I had the chicken avocado sandwich with homemade chips and I ate every bite of mine too! Stopped in for a quick lunch and drink this weekend. Pretty nice atmosphere and decoration. Love the old building look and reclaimed wood for the bar tops! They had a decent selection of beer on draft, mostly local places. Food was good, got the Southern Biscuit bacon egg and cheese burger. All ingredients had good taste! I gave this poor review because three of the restaurant's servers were not wearing face masks as required by Governor Cooper's order. Several other servers including ours were wearing their masks. Interestingly, every patron entering the restaurant during our lunch visit on July 7 was wearing a mask. The hot wings were tender, juicy, and perfectly sauced (not too much, not too little). But most importantly, the jalapeño corn fritters were OUTSTANDING! Went here for the first time this past Saturday. The place wasn't very busy but the service was great. The bartender was very personable. We ordered a burger, shrimp, fries and wings and they were all great! However, their hours are very confusing. I feel like a Pub should be own til 2, or at least until midnight but they closed up early (and I heard they close early often). But once they work out the kinks, I'm sure I'll change my rating to 5 stars. read more

We just moved to Clayton a few months ago so this was our first time here. We were really wanting this place to be good...even decent would be ok. Sadly it is NOT! It started when we tried to order a cocktail. The sever didn't know anything about the bar/drinks, which is fine but her attitude was just not that friendly and I would hazard a guess that she had never waited tables before. We ordered wings and onion rings for appetizers. The table across from us must of been waiting for their food for sometime because when they finally got their food one of them made the comment "it's about time". When they finally got their plates two of the four had issues with their order. We did get our apps quickly but the onion rings were BLAH and the "Famous Wings" were an even bigger let down! Didn't finish any of it...paid and left!! I really hope they can turn this around. It will be awhile before we return... read more

This was my 3rd try with Vinson's. The first two wee just average, with my husband complaining about his po boy sandwich. Anyway, we placed an order for delivery. The delivery time was supposed to be 35 minutes which is why the restaurant was chosen. The driver told me that when he went to pick it up, it would he another 55 minutes. I called the restaurant and they told me that it was already picked up. Contacted the driver, and was told that he did not pick up, only paid for it. I called the restaurant again, and was told by another employee, after a very rude exchange, that she was giving the driver the food at that time....what?!?! And, when the food was delivered, which the drive time is only 10 minutes, the burger was cold and dry, the chicken fingers were also dry, and the fries were limp and cold. My son did enjoy his philly steak, so that's why they get 2 stars. I will not be back. With the exchange over the phone, the inconsistency in the story, and the food, I'm over it. read more

I really wanted to like this place! The restaurant is beautiful, and the location is great! We went in the middle of Sunday afternoon, so not very crowded at all. The service was ok, but had to ask for a refill on my tea even though all of the servers were just standing around. The food was just mediocre. I had chicken salad sandwich which was pretty good, but it was served on a stale, untoasted croissant. The chips were homemade, but flavorless. My BF had the steak salad. It was a big bowl of iceberg with a few steak strips and blue cheese on top. Right up until the end of the meal we would have both been willing to give it another try. Just as we were paying the check and my BF was finishing his beer is when he notices the dead fly at the bottom of the beer!! He fished it out and showed the waiter that there was a dead fly in his beer! Waiter barely apologized, and asked if he wanted another beer? Waiter did not seem sincerely apologetic or shocked. He didnt even offer to take the beer off the tab! This is the first time I have ever heard BF say that we will not go back to a restaurant! read more

This was my second time eating at this establishment. My first experience was OK, the food was good but the service was subpar. The second go around our server had no personality. There was NO Hi! Welcome to Vinson's can I get you something drink or start you off with an appetizer. He just stood there, didn't offer to take a drink order or anything he just stood there and waited for us to address him. Now I don't know if it was his first day and all but waiting tables 101 always address the table with a smile say hi how are you my name is and ask what they would like to drink. Now the food was a bit disappointing, two of the people that were in my group order a burger with 4 pieces of bacon and only received to another person in my group order the chicken avocado club with no mayo it came drenched in the mayo, Now they did quickly fix these issues and a friend are with the chicken avocado club and she got her new sandwich the avocado slices looked rotten they were black. I got the triple cheese burger, when I got it both patties were burnt. This place is a huge disappointment to Clayton. I have t heard anyone say anything good about this place other than it's in A cute building. I ordered grilled chicken wings because there is absolutely nothing healthy on their menu otherwise, and they were disgustingly greasy. Their food is obviously frozen and their staff does not know how to operate. It's really unfortunate that Vinson's has such a terrible reputation so soon. Ordered take-out for lunch today. I had the Cobb salad and my husband had wings with sweet Carolina sauce. My salad was awesome - it had fried shrimp, grilled chicken, avocado, bacon, and egg on top. Big enough that I have enough for lunch tomorrow. My husband really enjoyed the wings and said they were extra crispy just as he likes them. We will definitely order from here again. read more

Been here a few times. The consistent thing is the food. Everything I have had has been good. Love the pretzel sticks and trash can nachos. Hubby had the crab cake sandwich today and said that it was by far his favorite item he has ordered. The consistently bad thing here is the service. Managers are great but the servers for the most part are extremely slow. Today ours was more concerned about her phone than her tables. With the location and menu this place should be killing it. Tasty Burger, great service and enjoyed the young musician's music. My only complaint is folks were their listening to the musician and taking up table space despite no longer having food. So overall it wasn't the worst, just was not good. If I could i would give a 2.5 right in the middle. Some food was good like the sides and the pretzel was delicious. My chicken sandwich was over cooked though to the point where all I could taste was char, my family both got burger and ordered them to be medium but came out almost rare, very red. The service.... the gentlemen we had was very polite and professional. The only thing was the service was very very slow. They were a little busy but not busy enough for the waits we had. Drinks took about 25 minutes to get out and the appetizers an extra 15 on top of that and the actual food an extra 40 on top of that. Was kind of disappointed. Also the music was extremely loud and they had a live band which was neat but very very loud where we had to yell to communicate at the table. So overall everything was so-so. Would we come back? Great place to have beer/mixed drinks and appetizers (crab cakes, pretzel bread with beer cheese, trash can nachos are all good) while you watch a game or listen to live music when they have it going on there. Salads are a safe bet when ordering an entree. Wings and burgers seem to be hit or miss, depending on the kitchen staff that day. I've gotten inedible wings and burgers quite a few times because they were dry and overcooked but they've also gotten it perfect quite a few times too. I would like to see more consistency in the quality of those two things. I don't know anyone who likes burgers charred all the way through or wings that don't have any juiciness to the meat so I'd like to see them fix that. Same with the service, hit or miss. Usually if I sit at the bar the bartenders are easier to flag down than servers so I tend to opt for that. Brunch is nice too and they have great Bloody Mary's. read more

We had high hopes for this new bar-food eatery in Clayton. It was packed to the rafters and stayed that way the entire loooong night we were there. We sat outside because it was the only table available. Fortunately it was a very pleasant evening. Placed our drink orders, all but mine showed up. Placed food orders, it took 47 minutes to get semi-warm garlic/parmesan fries. Had virtually tackle bypassing help for refills etc. Meanwhile we asked for music to be turned down, no luck. Finally went inside to find someone to do it. Corralled waitress about food, her response: ' nothing I can do about it". Food finally arrives, lukewarm. I had the Bleu burger. It was overcooked and was served on a croissant. The croissant immediately disintegrated (croissant s are delicate, not meant to hold a burger and condiments). It tasted good, but what a mess. My buddy's "ribeye" salad had little piece s of shaved beef ( like steakums) in it. After all that, it took a PPPnother 20 minutes to get the check, and when she brought it back there was no pen! I've read the reviews and I think they are a little harsh on the place...they are new and just trying to work out a few bumps that come with being new. Overall the food is pretty darn good especially the wings, Aps and burgers. If you're expecting a deep menu with full entries that's not what this place is. It's a pub that specializes on wings and burgers. Don't expect steaks, crab legs and BBQ. The only reason not a 5 and harsh criticism I have is the ranch dressing. I believe in a place this nice the ranch should be more of a homemade type ranch made in-house vs. what they currently serve (been there twice in 2 weeks) which is ranch that is more like you would get in a packet with a McDonald's salad or a bottle off a grocery shelf. The wings are great and need a better ranch. The bar is nice and the mixed drinks are good. Prices are very reasonable. Also recommend they run a beer special. read more

Well, we tried this place twice and that will be it! Not impressed. First time we went, beers were over priced and the philly sandwich was more roll than meat! Second time, beers still wayyy over priced, the kids grilled cheese was so super greasy it was inedible and now the burgers were liked precooked or something..they were dry and cold. Tonight we ventured into Vinson's for the first time. Expectations were at a minimum because of the reviews, not negative, just expectations were not high that if the it was bad, we were prepared, but hopping for a good experience. I can honestly say it was great! Alexis was our server and she engaged with the table was on time with everything. The food came out hot and you could tell it hadn't sat in the window. The wings were good! A lot of flavor, not as crispy as I'd like but the flavor was very good, onion ring were on point. I can't stand biting into an onion to have the onion come completely out. Not here, they were good! My wife had the chicken salad sandwich and said it was on point. The place is great. He served seem to have it together now, you can tell it's a team atmosphere. Our first visit to Vinson's and I chose the "Man's BLT". The bacon was like shoe leather. It was served cold as were the fries that came with it. The bacon was obviously precooked and was hard to eat. It reminded me of what it would be like to eat a gravel sandwich. The restaurant was had a very nice atmosphere and the service was good. We've eaten there 5 times. It's been good twice. This time my burger, which was ordered medium rare, was burned on the outside and completely raw in the middle.
