I own a few records but still need to get a record player. And when I finally acquire a record player, I will put Vinyl Fantasy on my hit list. There was an original press Melvins Stag album (insert jaw dropping) butttt there is a BIG BUTT, it was one hundred bones. Ouch! Maybe someday. Comics on the other hand are ready to be purchased. I noticed they had a very cool and fun collection of comics. The one I have my eye on right now is from the Seattle comic book company, Fantagraphics and it's about a stoner, rocker witch and her cat, Megahex. I know I had your attention at stoner, rocker, witch and cat was just an added bonus. Next pay check this comic will be mine. And you will find me in the lovely homeless man park, Maria Hernandez, catching up with my new witch lady friend. Another cool comic was Jeremy Nguyen's "Stranger Than Bushwick". The guy working at the shop was uber helpful and opened a copy for me to flip through. I can see some xmas shopping happening here for sure. Nguyen really understood how to poke fun of Bushwick's gentrification. Everything from a hilarious bingo to classifying the types of people in the neighborhood. Also there was a cool art show set up. I was very rudely reprimanded by a girl working in the store when I took a photo in the store. Apparently they have a strict no photo policy. That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard! This place is awesome! I love the variety of graphic novels they carry as well as their punk and metal selections. Ilana is super friendly and knowledgable of just about everything there! It's such a cute place and I only wish I had known about it sooner because I definitely would've purchased my Andre the Giant biography from here as opposed to amazon. Lesson learned. You straight up call us liars, we provide the proof that we did order your books and that they just do take that long to come when you order that close to release date. The rest of your books would have come on time. How the f@*k do I own a business? Try 3 and they all do great, thankfully because most of my customers aren't as unreasonable as you. Whats the big deal? You asked for something last minute and it didn't get their on release date? We explained to you why that is and you just keep crying. We ordered those books for you on the first business day, May 14th. We did the best we could for you. You sound like a child who doesn't understand why he can't always have his way." Honestly I don't really care about the books and the lying (which I would've chalked up to miscommunication til this guy went NUTS). Really not much there but I speak to one of the guys in the store and he tells me if I start a pull list there, they'd get me whatever books I wanted, in mint condition. The only thing was that I had to pick up my books promptly. He then tells me I have to email them my contact info and what books I want to start my pull list. I do so, fully expecting my books to get there. 2 weeks pass and it's time to pick up my books. I swing by yesterday, and no one can find my books. Then I get told "ohh, it takes two weeks to get your books" which was never explained when signing up. It was clear no one knew what was going on. I gave this place a shot as it's a local shop and I wanted to support. My mistake was thinking I could trust them with books I needed and now can't find. Visited Vinyl Fantasy after reading an article on the different vinyl shops in Brooklyn and I left pretty disappointed and sorry I made the trip over The pricing in the shop is pretty out of control. Most used vinyl is priced at 2 or 3 times what the vinyl sells for at other shops or online. This shop is really for the vinyl lover that wants to impulse buy and doesn't mind paying a pretty significant premium. I think my biggest "Oh, wow" moment was when I saw an 80's female pop album (believe it was Linda Ronstadt) priced at $8. Most vinyl shops have 30 of these collecting dust in their dollar bin and can't give them away. Other more desired $10 or $15 albums were selling for $23-$35. I like to support local shops but you'll go broke pretty quick building up your collection here. There were also mentions of a $1 bin at Vinyl Fantasy which was non existent. There were 5 albums nobody has heard of in the $1 bin. Not a vinyl shop for treasure hunters. The one good thing I will say is that they have more metal and punk albums than most vinyl shops. And it's a very clean shop. If you are looking for metal or punk vinyl, don't mind paying double or triple, then you should check it out. read more

I absolutely adore Vinyl Fantasy. But...being a comics fan and growing up on the punk, metal, and hardcore stuff they stock means I was pretty much destined to love this store. The staff is always kind and welcoming to my toddler-age son, and their t-shirts and housewares are all killer. So why not four stars? Well, I wish they had just a tiny bit bigger comic book selection (particularly books for kiddos) and I also wish they'd expand their selection of hip-hop records. I get it, space is at a premium and Bushwick is probably pricey to get a store front so they can't have everything. Those are minor issues, really. I still love this store and I go in every time I'm nearby. read more

Reading other reviews, i have to disagree with the pricing. Pricing is on-point, considering they're a small shop, and not...cough, cough, URBAN OUTFITTERS. People tend to compare prices and records to huge stores such as mentioned, but don't truly understand that those stores have the ability to order in mass for cheaper prices. Don't complain about the pricing if you're looking to get a deal. Shop on Amazon if you're feeling cheep. Besides the above, I find this shop to be awesome! They have a great selection in music and comics! I also love the art shows they have every once in awhile. The owners are cool and have a lot of knowledge on what they're selling (not like going into UO). Also, I know if you really want a comic or record, they might be able to get it for you! Seriously tho, if you're looking for a great place to shop for music or comics, with a great atmosphere and awesome customer service, this is the place to go! read more

How do I put 3.5 stars? This place has a good selection of records - rock, pop, wave, metal, rare. They carry new, used, dollar records, and cheapo beat up records for $3-10 bucks. But their "new arrivals" bin and higher end LPS are overpriced. I'm grateful to have another record store in the neighborhood. But they are going to have to work harder to get a leg up on Heaven Street or Human Head. read more

I just recently discovered this wonderful store while searching for local comic book shops in my area. It's a hard find around here, since Northside Comics shuttered their doors. Since then, I've had to go all the way Forest Hills for my comic fix, and I am pleased to say that this place is quite the find. I'm not a record collector, but a collector nonetheless. One quick glance at the record section and it's obvious to the eyes that these people are TRUE collectors with a lot of hard finds that would make any Vinyl junkie salivate. Upon walking in, I was greeted by a super chill and friendly store clerk named Ilana. She was very knowledgeable, and made some great comic recommendations, which I was thoroughly pleased with. The store is a little cozy, but they make great use of their space. I was pleasantly surprised by how much inventory they had on hand. It's also worth noting that the store offers pull lists for monthly comics. I give Vinyl Fantasy a 5 out of 5 stars. read more

After recently moving to the Bushwick area, I was ecstatic to learn there was a comic/record store a few blocks from me. And a great one at that! This tiny but very well curated shop has a great metal/punk section as well as solid selections in indie rock and pop (some good pressings of local bands too!). There's good gems in the discount/used bins with pretty well known offerings at a nice price. I do wish their offerings in electronic and soul/disco were a little more robust but otherwise this is a perfect place to crate dig with an exceptionally friendly and knowledgeable staff. Comic selection is great too; specializing in cool indie-ish stuff akin to Saga and Rat Queens. read more

Go to for any gifts *to myself and others* you can usually expect the owner and if you're in luck an adorable pup to greet you from behind the counter. Every item in the shop is hand curated by the owner and she can walk you through it all and leave you with a rad purchase and a ton more knowledge. Vinyl Fantasy is my ultimate shopping experience. I found VF from instagram due to my love of both music and comics and made a trip earlier this week. The shop storefront is designed really well, with vinyl (new and great selection) to the left and comics (same!) to the right. In the middle is the clerk/cashout area. It's decorated with art from previous art shows and some knicknacks and it's really organized. (It's a huge pet peeve of mine when I can't find what I'm looking for, whether it be vinyl or comics!) The staff is really helpful, and the prices are on point. I'm thinking about asking for a pull list from this shop since it's centrally located near tons of shops and restaurants I like. read more

If your front door is open and your gate is unlocked, I'm likely going to assume that you're open for business. Popped by on saturday but was basically yelled and told to leave when an employee showed up wondering why I had gone into their seemingly open (but yes empty) shop (there seemed to be someone rustling around in the back but not coming out or caring about people in their store). With the way they price their vinyl, I would think that leaving a store completely open but unattended would not be something they would want to do. Sorry I won't be purchasing the $150(!) My favorite comic shop in NYC! Ilana goes above and beyond in the customer service department. I get all of my comics here now via a pull list, can bring my dog into the store with me on our way to the dog park, AND have been able to special order hard to find items, like little Sailor Moon merchandise usually available in Japan only via the store. The majority of their customer base is pretty fantastic as well, and I've made a few new friends via hanging out at the store during their monthly events and art shows. If they don't already have it in the store-- they will find it for you! I go out of my way to walk here, and the pet store across the street. It's really awesome not to have to go to Manhattan just to get my comic book fix. Overall, a great store, without the misogynistic comic book culture, and without the pretentious record store attitude! read more
