Not only that, but they hooked up an on-the-spot customer recommended graphic novel based on the stack that I purchased. It was a great read on the trip and flight home. What a treasure trove of incredible books, all at great prices!…read more Friends of Library groups are such an incredible force and I'm so inspired by the Friends of Webster Library for running this wonderful store, the proceeds of which benefit the Webster library and other east side branches. I stopped by one afternoon and could have spent all afternoon browsing! I was lucky enough to snag a few copies of Demon Slayer, a few Julia Turshen cookbooks, a Christmas movie, and more! The prices were great - I don't think anything was more than a few dollars. The staff was really friendly and pointed out a second Julia Turshen book when they saw one in my pile. I'll definitely be visiting the Book Cellar again! To enter the Book Cellar, enter the library branch and walk straight ahead. You'll see a sign that will guide you down the stairs to the book shop. My guess is the sales did not offset the high rents. It is likely that this Queens location might come under a similar pressure. It is a large store, well-stocked and clean. The service is friendly but I find their knowledge of the inventory is lacking. Their collection of books, especially the Amar Chitra Katha comic books that I was raised on, is quite unique. Unlike with a grocery store, this is an episodic business and customers visit the store infrequently. But if I am in the market for Indian merchandise, I will be sure to check out Butala. An excellent resource for New Yorkers, although I realize the Manhattan location was too good to be sustainable.

Came here specifically for Cary Gitter's interview/ chat with Amy Feltman about Cary Gitter's debut novel. I really like the layout of the shop, the way the books are displayed, the diverse offerings of holiday books for children, and the way they fit the folding chairs to attend the author event. I didn't check every single book carefully when I got it but we just reached set 4 and even though it was wrapped in plastic, 2 of the 5 books in the box set were in Simplified Chinese whereas the other 3 books were in Traditional! My biggest…read moreissue with this store is their refusal to carry and display books showing all sides of history and events. If you are going to sell books on an event or region, you should sell books by multiple authors and viewpoints. Especially when you are catering to a diverse audience including children. Otherwise you're not selling books, you're selling ideologies. I will be taking my business elsewhere.
