We admired the vinyl records collection, especially the soul/R & B collection which were actually reasonably priced. Al Green, TP, EWF, and other superstars. Malcolm was there the first two nights and we chatted with him. He is the owner's son - but clearly is more or less the owner- and was so personable and friendly that he is THE reason we bought swag here. We checked out the other Beale Street souvenir shops but this place was more than a step above the others, way better! We went to Graceland, Sun Studio, Stax Music, Four Way restaurant, Cozy Corner bbq, Charlie Vergoss (overrated), Kooky Canuck, and Sunrise biscuits - but Memphis Music Records Tapes & Souvenirs had the best vibe of any of them (Four Way was a close second, highly recommend). All because of Malcolm and the variety of inventory they have. Thank you!!! I would've bought more but my suitcase couldn't handle more!

The reason why I know about this place is when I was watching the FIFA finals in my small group, a family friend told me about this spot. When I was here, a lot of the stuff was gone to a convention. But there's still some good things! It's literally the first time I've ever seen some of these consoles, so it's super cool! As you can tell on my profile pic, I'm a Sonic fan. And the little picture of this place is Sonic 2!(GG version) And there was a Genesis!!!!! Literally my childhood dream since I was like, 7! I genuinely thank this place. It's good I thought for a few days if this was a good choice before buying. It's also good I didn't break the glass cabinets. They can also repair broken consoles! Shangri- La Records was up the street from where we had BBQ & as soon as we walked in, the records covered wall to wall. So much to choose from. There was a section with a setup of drums & a mic stand. Came to find out there was a jam session that ended right before we walked in. I really really enjoyed the Memphis sections, whether it was based off of a record label (like Stax) or an artist (like OV Wright). When I found the record I ended up buying, I instantly told myself that I was going to back as long as I'm ever in Memphis. 'B-Ball's Best Kept Secret' is super rare. NBA players produced + performed on the album. I thought I was trippin' because I always heard about it on podcasts & when I saw the tracklist I was like "OH SNAP!!". The individual who helped at the register (who might've been the manager/owner) was really nice & hooked us up with a sticker (I collect local stickers). Great experience as a first time visitor + consumer.

Travelled all over country and nothing unique here or any real personality. clerks with no greeting made me feel like they could care less if customers were there or not.

I visit 4 or 5 times a year & have gotten at least 30 "just what I was looking for" books & CD's from here. I am careful to buy only items that will be read or viewd more than once, or I would have to buy a new bookcase every year. Staff was quick to answer questions & give directions. May take half an hour (or so) to discover the ins and outs of the entire layout. Entire family should enjoy a visit. NOTE: The Germantown Library Friends Bookstore is smaller, but is my favorite library-related used bookstore in the Memphis area. I visit once or twice a week for all sorts of "modern" books & CD's at bargain prices, and for fine older books which often come up for sale. Have bought at least 150 books there this decade, some of which were absolute steals. It's a very inexpensive addiction.
