    Tabby cat named Mitzi

They saved my vicious tabby grandcat Mitzi, after she decided to eat thread. They provided excellent care even after she maimed two vets, and even set up an in person follow up where she scratched yet another vet tech. She's honestly really nice at home. Thank you and I'm sorry

Our rottie puppy, Motley, was at VC for 4 days this summer with an extreme case of pneumonia, and I can't say enough good things about their vets and their staff. He received the absolute best care, and proactively updated us daily on his situation. They always took our calls and offered for us to visit nightly. I could truly tell how much the staff loved him. It was hit and miss for a while but we were confident he was in the best hands. Now he's almost a year old and a happy and healthy guy thanks to the truly amazing people at Violet Crown.

We lost our sweet Toby yesterday but felt called to leave a review for Violet Crown and their staff. We knew it was going to be a tall task to save our pup and the compassion they showed Toby and our family while he fought for his life was truly special. Though it wasn't the end result we had ever imagine and we are beyond heartbroken- I take solace in knowing that he was cared for so well in the last days of his life and a special thank you to Chelsea, Dr. Grier and Dr Kennedy and all the staff that fought so hard for Toby and our family. In a job that can sometimes feel thankless, thank you from the Black family

I'm extremely happy with Dr. Kelly Might and the surgery he performed on my 6 yr old Staffordshire Bull Terrier/ Australian Cattle Dog mix! Buddy needed a very unique surgery to address his Luxating Patella tendon and partial ACL tear. Dr. Might explained all of the treatment options to me and kept me informed about everything from start to finish. Dr. Might is friendly and professional and I highly recommend consulting Dr. Might if your dog ever needs surgery!

I am beyond grateful and thankful for everyone at Violet Crown. My sweet Rottie was diagnosed with bone cancer in February. I met with a couple of oncologists in Austin to figure out the best treatment. Ultimately, I went with Dr. Brehm and her treatment plan which was to amputate the back leg and do 6 rounds of chemo. Dr. Kennedy did Mack's amputation and was so grea throughout the entire surgery day keeping me informed and constantly communicating updates to me. Forrest and Casey were predominately my oncology techs and always so warm every time we came in for a chemo treatment. Today was his last round and his scans are clear and he is moving around so great -I thought not having a leg would really slow him down, but it has not! After his major surgery, the team was on-call for me 24/7 - someone was always responding to texts/emails for my questions and concerns. It was truly such a comforting feeling during this emotional and hard journey. I can't say enough good things. Dr. Might is also amazing - he did my other dog's knee TPLO surgery and she healed so quick and easy from that! HIGHLY recommend VCVS!! Thank you for your care and support!!!

    Amber a day before surgery.

We scheduled our golden retriever, Amber, for straightforward larynx tie-back surgery. With age and paralysis, her airway had narrowed and breathing was increasingly difficult. She was a good candidate per our vet: strong and otherwise healthy. After surgery, we received a call saying the procedure went well. She was monitored overnight, and we were told to pick her up the next morning. Still, no problems. Managing surgeon, Dr. Might, said he had examined her and just a "disappointing" level of noise when breathing. We were stunned when she was brought to us. She looked miserable: unsteady, still struggling to breathe, and eyes glazed. We were both shocked. This was very obviously not a dog that was "recovering well." I asked to see a doctor twice. For some reason, nobody was available. We just wanted to get her home, hoping that once she slept off the apparent drug dosage, the reports of successful outcome would come true. Instead, once home, she worsened and started fighting suffocation. It was torture for all of us. We took video and sent it to the clinic. About an hour and half after arriving home, she was in desperate crisis and we had no choice but to get her back to clinic. She stopped breathing with the movement to car. My husband (40-yr ER doc) tried to clear mucus with a baster just so she could breathe. Dr. Might called and I explained that my husband was rushing back to clinic. I was following. With minutes lead time, Dr. Might did not even alert staff that a critical, dying dog was arriving. My husband had to run in to reception to get help. By that time, we could not put her through more trauma and we let her go. We have spent considerable time with Dr. Might on the phone. But he and staff have now concluded that Amber was fine when discharged and implied it is our fault for not returning her to clinic. They say video shows her making it out the door to be carried to car. But it was her increased breathing difficulty that was the issue!! Their stories have all changed over days. Medical bills and reports to us do not match the final narrative as all in the clinic "got on the same page." Bottom line, Amber had surgery and it reportedly went well, but there was a disastrous reversal. She was not re-examined as she was discharged. She was in no condition to be far from an oxygen kennel. And putting her through the ordeal of carrying her back to car, once home, returning to clinic, in her desperate state was unthinkable. We finally had to take her back, and it was too difficult for her. We waited for days to hear from Violet Crown that they regret the error and that procedures have changed to require a qualified vet exam of any surgery patient that is showing signs of complications or reversal before discharge. Releasing her in that condition, the misinformation, and subsequent contradictions are inexcusable. Our beloved dog deserved so much better. We suffered along with her, and will never forget.

The doctors were quick and communicative and even sent us pictures as we were rushing to get back. The doctors stabilized him and we got to bring him home which was my biggest wish. They gave us an extra two days to say goodbye and got him in good enough shape to be able to go in some final walks and swims. Ultimately we had to say goodbye (no fault of AVES - the emergency was caused by a fatal underlying cancer that we did not know about- our pets are great at hiding pain). Though I wish the outcome was different - I will be forever grateful to AVES for saving our boy so we could be with him and say goodbye.

My friend had the same terrible experience as I did so this is not just a one off. The doctor will never speak to you or see you after the initial first visit, he will just examine your dog for 5 minutes. The nurse will then report back whatever he says without seeming like she has even the slightest knowledge about your pets history. This was for a $1,200+ visit too. Dr. Dolan always seemed to be out of the office when I would call for my critical dogs condition as well. Also, be aware that the oncology department does not work on Fridays at this office. Even if your dog goes to their ER on a Friday with a serious problem, the Oncologist's nurse won't be able to speak with you until Monday. I had called with serious concerns about my dog on a Thursday and again just spoke to the nurse and not the Doctor. They made it seem like his symptoms weren't an issue but come to find out it was a major sign that my dog's tumor was rupturing. Have I heard from Dr. Dolan since knowing that my dog was taken into their ER that Friday and had to be put down? Nope. Because they do not care about you or your pet. Just the amount of money you give them. We also had an issue where they double charged us over $1,000 too and we had no idea for over a month. I found out at a separate ER visit from the nurse. So always check your statements! My dog had radiation treatment for his tumor at VCA and Dr. Treuil was truly incredible. He took the time to speak with me over the phone and the staff even reached out to me when they saw my dog went to the AVES ER for an eye ulcer. We were going to switch to VCA oncology since we heard great things about them, but unfortunately my dog passed before we could make the change. Please think twice before going to AVES because you will more than likely regret it.

I had just learned my dog, Bonnie, had a massive splenic mass (later found to weigh 8.5 pounds) that could rupture at any moment, yet another emergency clinic told me surgery wouldn't be possible for weeks. When I called VEG, Dr. Lisa answered and immediately said, "Come now." That moment alone meant everything! She recognized the urgency and helped me navigate an incredibly difficult decision with empathy and clarity. She is such a kind person! Dr. Nina, who performed Bonnie's surgery, was outstanding. When I met her, I immediately felt reassured because she had such a calm confidence. This was a very high risk surgery, but I felt like we were in the best place we could be. And I was right because surgery was a success! The nurses and techs - Noemy, Kelsey, and Gina - were also amazing. They stayed in constant communication and made me feel informed, included, and genuinely cared for every step of the way. I've never experienced veterinary care like this. VEG didn't just care for my dog. They cared for me and my whole family, and I will always be grateful.

The check in was so easy - I had called in advance and they texted me a check in link so when I got there that was all set. We were brought back immediately. The initial vet that took us in the open big room was so detailed with her part of the check in process, she even put us in a separate private room after learning my little man is reactive to other dogs. She was so kind and thorough. The final vet that saw us had such a caring energy - my little man never shook (like he normally does at the vet), and totally trusted her. She was thorough in her part of the exam and let us know all of our options. We left feeling relieved and well cared for. Not sure if this is typical, but we were really in and out - we were there maybe 30 min total (we went on a Monday a little after 9am, so not sure if that is typically a slower time?). It felt like a normal scheduled vet appointment. Even billing was awesome. I was emailed a receipt and requested an itemized one for our pet insurance and that was sent super fast. Yes, it was pricey ($190 for our visit) but emergency vets are always more expensive, so just expect that. Hopefully we do not have anymore emergency situations with our fur baby, but this is my local go-to should the need arise. Highly recommended!

This emergency hospital is closest to home so that's why we've tried it 3 times. That ended today though, we won't be back. I understand that for an emergency animal hospital acute issues are seen first. However, this location feels like the wait is forever when there's less than satisfactory communication from those working, especially from the front desk staff. Most people's pets are like family and when you have to bring them in for any type of emergency it's highly stressful for both owners and pet. I've made 3 visits here and had to wait for 30 minutes or more without being notified why and that is not okay. Feeling as if you've been forgotten while your pet is stressed, hurt or in pain is unacceptable. Sometimes all it takes is a check in to let people know they're still being attended to while waiting, and not forgotten. Today we arrived not knowing for sure if what my dog had vomited was blood or not (because we aren't trained professionals). We called before arriving to let them know we were on our way. There weren't any other pets waiting in the lobby when we arrived. The receptionist kindly checked us in, and it was quick because we had been there before. She brought paperwork over for us to verify info and sign. The first thing that I noticed is the age of my dog was wrong. This wouldn't be such a big deal if the prior two times that we had gone there, I brought it to their attention that the age of my dog was wrong. So that means they still hadn't fixed it since the last time we were there. A dog's age and weight are very important when it comes to administering any type of care. I let the receptionist know and she said she would fix. That was the last communication we had as we waited in the lobby for almost 40 minutes. People came out of the back with their animals. Other people arrived with their pets. Finally, because my dog was becoming very anxious, I decided to look up other emergency hospitals to see where else I could take her. I found one and we let the receptionist know we were leaving. They simply said okay, no questions asked and we walked out the door. I hope no other animal owners experience this type of service, lacking in compassion and care.

VEG first contacted my regular vet, who unfortunately wouldn't take her that morning, but they went above and beyond by proactively reaching out to another fantastic local vet who could perform the surgery (this was done to help reduce my costs, they were willing to perform the surgery). That support was incredibly appreciated and honestly something I would have struggled to coordinate on my own in the moment. Nova's surgery went well, and I brought her right back to VEG afterward for post-op care.
