AVES cares about one thing and one thing only. ..Your Money. I would never ever recommend this place to anyone. My friend had the same terrible experience as I did so this is not just a one off. The doctor will never speak to you or see you after the initial first visit, he will just examine your dog for 5 minutes. The nurse will then report back whatever he says without seeming like she has even the slightest knowledge about your pets history. This was for a $1,200+ visit too. Dr. Dolan always seemed to be out of the office when I would call for my critical dogs condition as well. Also, be aware that the oncology department does not work on Fridays at this office. Even if your dog goes to their ER on a Friday with a serious problem, the Oncologist's nurse won't be able to speak with you until Monday. I had called with serious concerns about my dog on a Thursday and again just spoke to the nurse and not the Doctor. They made it seem like his symptoms weren't an issue but come to find out it was a major sign that my dog's tumor was rupturing. Have I heard from Dr. Dolan since knowing that my dog was taken into their ER that Friday and had to be put down? Nope. Because they do not care about you or your pet. Just the amount of money you give them. We also had an issue where they double charged us over $1,000 too and we had no idea for over a month. I found out at a separate ER visit from the nurse. So always check your statements! My dog had radiation treatment for his tumor at VCA and Dr. Treuil was truly incredible. He took the time to speak with me over the phone and the staff even reached out to me when they saw my dog went to the AVES ER for an eye ulcer. We were going to switch to VCA oncology since we heard great things about them, but unfortunately my dog passed before we could make the change. Blown away by the kindness, compassion, and professionalism of the entire team. Our dog had a medical emergency while we were out of town. The doctors were quick and communicative and even sent us pictures as we were rushing to get back. The doctors stabilized him and we got to bring him home which was my biggest wish. They gave us an extra two days to say goodbye and got him in good enough shape to be able to go in some final walks and swims. Ultimately we had to say goodbye (no fault of AVES - the emergency was caused by a fatal underlying cancer that we did not know about- our pets are great at hiding pain). This place is phenomenal. There aren't enough words to express my gratitude. Every single person at this clinic, from the front desk staff to the nurses and doctors was incredible. My sweet kitty had a urethral obstruction, and we were told there wasn't much time before it became life-threatening. The emergency vet we initially took him to was unable to keep him overnight to provide the level of care he needed, and they recommended this clinic. I am so incredibly grateful they did. I called ahead after learning how critical his condition was and that he needed emergency care. The receptionist immediately gathered the information they needed so they could be ready for him when we arrived. The moment we walked through the door, he was taken back to be evaluated. Throughout the entire process, the staff kept me updated and showed an incredible amount of empathy and compassion during one of the most terrifying experiences I've ever had. The doctor was amazing. She took the time to thoroughly explain all of his options, answer my questions, and help keep me grounded when I felt completely overwhelmed. The professionalism, kindness, and level of care at this clinic should be the standard for every veterinary office. I knew my cat was in the best hands possible. They went above and beyond in every way--working with me to keep costs as manageable as possible, sending us home with extra food, and most importantly, saving my baby's life. Raced all the way from home this morning. Maybe 25-30 mins depending on traffic. It was record time as we were disheveled; rushed through front doors at the vet. Seizure happened the entire drive over. All attendants were terrific as they approached us and got our pup through the emergency room into the back where they can treat her. This first part of this review is purely of the emergency side of the clinic. Do not bring your pet to AVES in an emergency. There are such better 24 hour clinics in Austin. My precious dog, who was a patient of the oncology vet for the past year at AVES, had to be admitted to the ER when he took a turn for the worse this past week. To say the staff, the service, and the communication completely lacked compassion and competence is a gross understatement. While our dog was receiving "care" in the overnight unit - there was close to zero communication on his status. When my daughter went to check on him she was made to wait an hour and a half in the waiting room just to have someone let her back to see him. When I picked him up there were zero discharge instructions, no update on what to watch for or exactly what they had done for him while he was there for 48 hours. He had been pumped full of sedative - which I completely understand but was not notified of such. When he was not doing well at home that evening I called and was supposed to have a veterinarian on staff reach out. Crickets. Finally the next evening when we knew it was time to say goodbye. AGAINST MY BETTER JUDGMENT I called them to ask if we could be met and whisked to a room. I was put on hold for eternity then told that although they could put my dying dog on a "priority" list that there was no guarantee that we would not have to sit with him in the waiting room until a room was ready. In the meantime I called VEG ER on South Lamar. Their care, compassion, swift action was remarkable and night/day experience to what we encountered at AVES. They were waiting for us, helped us get out big dog back to their private room immediately. The techs and vet were unbelievably kind, informative, patient, and skilled. I so regret not having found them earlier. Additionally one of the techs had worked for AVES and because of similar experiences to mine she left. Second part of review is for the clinic. All I can say is huge staff turnover - I never saw the same front desk person or technician twice. The techs/front desk had zero compassion and inadequate training. EDIT 2: Bumping my review back down to 2 for their shitty canned response to my review. I'm definitely in their records. My cat was diagnosed with an aggressive cancer after I paid for an expensive MRI here. The day he was diagnosed, I asked about possible treatments (chemo, etc). I was told that I would be informed about possible treatments the next day after they got a radiologist report. I called twice the next day, and was told I would be given treatment information the morning after. The morning after, I was told I would be lucky to get information the next week. They never bothered to reach out to me regarding delays. Despite being aware that my cat has an AGGRESSIVE cancer, they never bothered to reach out to me about expediting next steps. My family had a terrible experience with Aves Vet Clinic. My grandma's cat was kept there for two nights due to a fever, and we were charged nearly $3,000. When he came home, he seemed okay for just one day before declining rapidly and passing away. What was most concerning is that no one ever went over his bloodwork with us, even though several values were outside the normal range, including his white blood cell count. All of his bacterial and viral tests reportedly came back negative, yet he was still sent home on antibiotics and an appetite stimulant with no clear diagnosis. It felt like we were given medications that didn't address the real issue. To make things worse, they told us they would send us his paperwork and bloodwork results, and we never received anything, even after following up. Given the lack of communication, the unclear treatment plan, and the outcome, we are now seeking advice on how to get a refund or reimbursement for the thousands of dollars spent without proper explanation. This experience was extremely disappointing and painful, and I hope others don't have to go through this. read more

I would give zero stars if I could, but the one star definitely goes to office and tech staff. I will start by saying my experience with Dr. Dolan has been aweful. I was hopeful after the initial visit, but then I never saw or heard from Dr. Dolan again despite multiple requests to have him come out during my dog's visits or call my husband or I to discuss the treatment plan. $3500 later and I still don't know what to do with my dog and still haven't heard from Dr. Dolan. This experience was nothing short of emotionally traumatizing for me, and my dog had to go to the ER once and responded poorly to half of her treatments. This all happened within the last couple of months. (Sept-Oct 2025). I also requested on multiple occasions to speak with an office manager, whom I was told would call me and never did. Also, it would normally take days to hear back from Oncology, yet when I didn't immediately pay my bill I had them texting me at 2AM asking when I was going to pay. 2 a.m. HUGE shoutout to Charlotte, Elena, and Rebecca. There was one other lady at the front desk that was awesome, but I never got her name. These individuals helped make this experience bearable. Forever grateful to you ladies. read more

Had to take my kitty in a couple of nights ago-- he suddenly started exhibiting symptoms of pain and straining to use the bathroom. From the moment I went into AVES the folks there were on top of things. Techs came out to ask what was going on and showed honest sympathy for my boy's pain. They gave me a general quote for the level of care they thought he needed right from the start, which I really appreciated. Their lobby was super clean and had water, tea/coffee and a phone charger for me to use, which came greatly in handy bc we were there a while! In the end, my cat didn't need any serious medical intervention, but the vet taking care of him made sure to sit down with me and discuss what they found, educate me on some things he might need, and recommend some at-home remedies I could try. I had to put down a deposit for the visit including all the vitals they took and the x-rays they did (about $600) and they sent me home with pain medication and a urinary analysis (another $200 or so). Just today I got a call from the vet about the results of the urinalysis, and the vet was super patient with my questions and gave me great recommendations for how to help my boy in the future. I'm honestly really happy with the service I got here. I've been to other emergency vets who did so much less for about the same cost. I felt like my cat was taken good care of, and for that I'll happily recommend them to anyone. read more

I understand and have accepted that it was his time. Something that I should have realized 3 months earlier. I've learned that when an animal is telling you that they are ready to die, you let them go peacefully. They are not people. They are on another timeline. A vet who truly cares about animals understands this. But how do you send a bill for that? When an animal stops eating, you don't put them on a feeding tube and pump them full of anti nausea meds, anti vomiting meds, and steroids. You don't give them another ultrasound, another ultrasound, another xray, another xray, another blood test, another surgery. I even paid an extra $600 at one point for extra biopsy stains THAT I NEVER EVEN GOT THE RESULTS FOR. It was explained away with "oh, well it won't really change our treatment plan at this point anyway." Like, what? So why did you do it? $$$$$$$$$$$ My poor cat was foaming at the mouth, vomiting and miserable on the last Monday I took him for his appointment at AVES. Dolan gave him ANOTHER ultrasound and ANOTHER x ray... and what was the result of this? I was told to feed him slower through his feeding tube and increase his nausea meds to three times a day. He died 2 days later SCREAMING in terror and agony -- and worst of all, completely afraid of me because of all the torture I've put him through the past couple of months -- as we scrambled to find a mobile vet to come and euthanize him to give him as peaceful of an ending as possible. But it was way too late. We watched our precious baby who we would do anything for die as he tried to run away from us. Why was this possibility never discussed with us? Had we been prepped even just a little bit, we would have been able to end his suffering sooner. But again, you can't charge for that. Ending his suffering was never brought up even ONCE from any ER doctor, oncologist, internal medicine doctor, surgeon. Believe me, we went through every department. I'm ashamed at the amount of money we gave these people. I'm talking tens of thousands of dollars. We were desperate. These people are ghouls feeding off of the hope, love, and desperation of people who love animals. I'll say it again: it's criminal. Soulless. Profit before compassion to the absolute max. read more

Dr. Eleanor Brown was very unprofessional, rude, condescending, and completely lacked compassion for our 16 year old cat. She wanted to put him through multiple tests that were unnecessary because we had already uncovered what his underlying problem was. We simply needed her to address whether or not we needed him on additional medication. I am very familiar with CKD and she kept trying to treat me like I did not know what I was talking about. Friendly staff! I think the clinic is a bit pricey. My biggest issue is that we spent 7 hr, $1300 and left with our fur baby no better than we went it. We provided all his symptoms and previous medical history. They began by conducting one examination and the vet proceeded to advise a 2nd exam was needed to narrow down the problem. We get the results and again are advised to follow up with a different examination to further narrow down the problem, which we declined due to the cost. Our dog seems to have a stomach issue. Forgive me if I'm wrong, it felt like a lack of empathy and a little bit of upselling. Two exams, medical history and current symptoms seems like sufficient information to address a stomach issue and send our baby home with some medicine. We decided to try this place but went home with regret. We had already received a similar evaluation for $300 from his regular vet. We thought this clinic could identify the problem without so many needed exams but were wrong. read more

I am sharing this review with the hope that no other family has to experience what we have gone through with our sweet 5 year old pup. Our dog was hospitalized at AVES overnight, and during that hospitalization an incident occurred while under staff care. As a result, he sustained an injury that led to surgery and permanent disability. Eight weeks post-surgery, and we have been informed that he is not expected to improve and his quality of life has been permanently impacted. This outcome has altered the course of his life and ours. In addition to the incident itself, we were deeply disappointed by the lack of transparency that followed. Requests for information related to what occurred were met with resistance, which added significant stress during an already devastating time. To be fair, the veterinarian managing our dog's medical case continued to prioritize his care following the incident, and we do appreciate her commitment to his treatment. However, appreciation for one provider does not outweigh the broader concerns this experience raised. Based on our experience, AVES appears to lack adequate procedures to ensure overall quality of care for hospitalized animals, as well as sufficient training and oversight of technical staff. There is a basic, minimal expectation that when you entrust your pet to a veterinary hospital, especially a specialty emergency facility like AVES, that they will be kept safe while under staff supervision. In our case, that basic expectations was not met! The pain, stress, and long-term consequences of this experience have been extreme! We are now left navigating a future where our dog's condition will not improve and his independence has been permanently affected. I would strongly urge pet owners to consider these factors carefully when deciding where to seek care for their pets! read more

I had a sick puppy that I was fostering and my foster director told me to take him to the closest ER vet and that just happened to be AVES. I told them I thought he might possibly have parvo because he had thrown up and was lethargic. This pup had come from a shelter outside of austin. They made me sit in the lobby for two hours before they took us back to a room to even test him. I can't imagine wanting a possibly contagious puppy sitting in a waiting room with vulnerable dogs coming and going. There was no communication. Maybe I should have advocated for me and the puppy and bugged them to see me but that's not really who I am and I don't think I should have to be. Anyway, next time I have a foster that I need to take to the ER, I won't be going back to AVES. read more

My dog, Jax, is epileptic and has been going to neurology at AVES regularly for the past 2 years. The staff is great and Dr Sutton is an amazing Neurologist who genuinely shows care for Jax. When I was here last month, Jax got stressed and started seizing and the staff jumped on getting him cared for. This was a more serious seizure where he turned blue from having a hard time breathing. They kept him overnight and I was so worried, I booked a hotel nearby and they let me visit him several times so he wasn't alone without me for too long. I got to sit in the back and cuddle him for 30 minutes and it made me feel much better. Jax takes meds 7x/day and I had issues with his prescription which is a big deal because a missed dose can trigger seizures. The staff worked diligently to work with Walgreens to transfer my meds asap. It was very complicated and I'm grateful they wanted to help me. I really trust AVES and Dr Sutton with Jax's care. read more

For the next 15 months, Stella Blue was able to live because of the treatment(s) she received from AVES. She had the quality of life for those 15 months that I will cherish for life. Dr. Tim Stein gave my wife and me the facts. It was devasting, but he guided us with options. Dr. Stein was kind. He was considerate. He was compassionate. The staff that he works with are amazing. From the front desk to the techs in the Oncology department. Thank you so much: Jarrod, Rebecca, Jennifer, Michelle, Makaila, Callie, Christen, Lisa. Dr. Stein was able to recommend an oncologist in Alexandria, Virginia; Dr. Wilson. She also had the qualities of kindness, consideration, and compassion. Update: I think AVES might not understand my review based on their Google response. While I understand the law, they should've informed me of the bite prior to recommending I put my cat down for the medical emergency that brought him into their clinic in the first place. Had I not chosen euthanasia, we would've been sent home to quarantine and he would still have his head. I feel as thought they purposely avoided telling me about the bite in hopes I would put my cat down anyway, and then they could sweep all of this under the rug. I would've never known they sent him off for rabies testing had I not proactively called the cremation company to check on if they had received his body. ------------- Trigger warning: Pet loss and graphic details. It's taken me 2 years to get the courage to write this updated review. This is for the emergency room department, not internal medicine. In the middle of the night 2 years ago, my cat yelped out in pain causing me to wake up. I found him in the kitchen, and his back legs were not working. He was obviously in a ton of pain, as he was yelling and thrashing around. I got him into his carrier and made the longest 15 minute drive of my life to the ER. The only reason I chose this ER is this is where his internal medicine doctor is located, so they have some background on him. I arrived at the ER and race my cat inside. They take him back quickly and put me into my own room. Some time goes by, and the doctor comes into my room and informs me that cat had a saddle thrombus. Unfortunately I knew of this condition and suspected it myself based on the paralyzed back legs. He informed me the likelihood of him surviving would be slim, so I made the tough decision to put him down. They move me into another room and brought my cat in. He was heavily sedated, so the goodbye was even more tough as it was like he was already gone. Where things took a turn is when I noticed there was a large laceration on his face. When I asked why his face was cut, the nurse said he was brought in like that. I informed her he absolutely was not brought in with a cut on his face. Later the doctor comes in with the injections to put him to sleep, and I again ask why his face is cut. He informs me that the cone they put around his neck was sharp and sliced him when they put it on him. I never thought anything else of it. The doctor then gave him the medication to put him down and I said my goodbyes. They then kept my cat so that he could be sent off for cremation. The next morning I called the cremation company to see if they had received my cat's remains yet. They hadn't. So I called the ER, and they said my cat was still at the ER but would not give me any reason why he hadn't been sent to cremation yet. Later that night, the doctor called to inform me that he had bit someone during the visit, and therefore he was still at the ER and would need to be decapitated and his head sent off to the city/county for rabies testing. I am in complete shock as no one told me this while I was there putting my cat down. No one told me by me leaving his body with them that it would sit in their dark cooler for days until someone could remove his head to send it for testing. The entire process took days to complete. The vet had to remove his head, the city/county had to pick it up, then someone had to test the brain stem. Obviously his test came back negative for rabies. The city/county disposed of his head and only his body was sent to the cremation company. It still haunts me to this day knowing that inside his urn is only part of his body. I've been in and out of therapy due to the trauma this has caused. If I had not put him down, we would've simply been sent home to quarantine for 10 days. But since I was not informed of the bite and was instead advised euthanasia for the saddle thrombus was the best option, he would be decapitated behind my back. I wish I had taken his body home and buried him. Instead I was left to believe my entire cat would be sent to a crematory with a peaceful goodbye that I did not receive. I brought my sweet boy, Drogo, here after my regular vet got some concerning bloodwork back for him and recommended AVES. He was hospitalized and under the care of Dr. Miller for a few days, and I received thorough updates twice a day both from her and the overnight doctors. Unfortunately, my boy's kidneys and heart were failing, and Dr. Miller explained the options and possible outcomes in a very caring way. I made the impossible decision to let him go. The staff let me spend as much time as I wanted with him in a private room before Dr. Miller helped him over the rainbow bridge while he was still in my arms. I was given options of different memorial packages, and was able to pick his ashes up a couple of weeks later. Losing a pet is one of the hardest things I've ever been through, but AVES offered a caring and supportive environment in which to do so. read more

My dog got bit by a copperhead snake late at night. We called around to a bunch of different emergency vets but they were all full and wouldn't take her. AVES was also at capacity but agreed to take her Bc she's a current client with them from a previous visit. We get there, they take her in, and then go over what's going to happen and when you expect a call. They told us it would take a while and we could go home and rest. They kept up communication with me every few hours (even in the middle of the night, like 3am) which I really appreciated, as someone who has high anxiety and constantly wants to know what's happening. They gave her antivenin and kept her overnight to make sure the antivenin was working and keep an eye on her. Her swelling went down, and she was healing like a champ, thanks to the wonderful care at AVES. I was able to take her home the following day at 5pm and she's been doing great. The only reason I took 1 star off is due to the vet tech to released my dog back to me. Both my husband and I felt like she was incredibly rude. I recall her name was Andrea Lopez. When I just asked her simple follow up questions she had a total attitude. I did not enjoy speaking with her or appreciate her demeanor, and recommend AVES look into it and communicate with her about her attitude towards patient owners. If only I could give 0 stars. Please, please, PLEASE DO NOT take your animal here! They will kill them! My dog went in for surgery and was sent home the same day. Within two days, he developed a horrible infection. I brought him back in and they did a culture and sent us home with three different antibiotics. Within another two days, my dog had a high fever, excruciating pain, and couldn't walk. I called and e-mailed and all I was told was to give him more gabapentin and that the culture was still pending. In the middle of the night, I had to call 911 to help me load my dog into my car because he was so sick. I called AVES in a panic, refusing to get off the phone until someone answered me. The front desk person told me she would hang up on me if I didn't calm down. A doctor finally called me back after I was already making the hour long trip to their clinic. The results of the culture miraculously came in right then and my dog had three different infections, one being MRSA. He was hospitalized that night. The doctor told us he had to come back for daily bandage changes and we had to come to that clinic so they could use their "special" bandages. This was after a $2,300 bill for the infection they exposed him to and ignored. They wanted to keep him over the weekend and charge us $7,000 to which we declined. They said they'd show us how to do his injections and fluids. They took us back to the "quarantine" area, which was just a kennel with no bed that was still exposed to other animals. They gave us a smock and gloves but no shoe coverings and didn't have us wash our hands or wear masks. The tech didn't change any of her protective gear while going in and out either. She even told us we didn't have to sanitize the area of his skin where we were doing the injection and fluids. No wonder he caught such a deadly infection from them, there's no sanitation guidelines whatsoever! The next day we went back for a bandage change, we were turned away because they were too busy and they told us to come back the next morning. We came back the next morning at 7:30am, at 8:30am they took him back. I gave the tech his life-saving antibiotic injection and told her it was due at 8:45am and I would like to watch them do it if they had time. She said ok. We waited in the parking lot for an hour, then left to go eat. We returned at 11:30am, thinking he'd almost be done. They hadn't even seen him yet, and they hadn't given him his antibiotic. I demanded to talk to someone, to which a lead tech came out. She kept telling me they were understaffed and other patients were there and it would still be hours. I told her I wasn't paying them to throw my dog into a cold kennel with a dirty bandage and no medication. The doctor came in who was the most condescending and horrible person I've ever met. She kept telling me to lower my voice, and wouldn't listen to me. She kept going on and on about how she had so many patients. I said I don't care about the other patients, my dog caught MRSA from this hospital, my 18 month old perfectly healthy puppy might die from infection and all he needed was a bandage change! I said it's not my fault they're understaffed, to which she tried to gaslight me by saying, "Why didn't you take him to another hospital?" I was told to bring him to AVES only! I told her to give me my dog, that I was reporting the hospital to the state and I was going to sue them for malpractice. She didn't like that and started shouting over me about liability. People, I had to call 911 and report my dog stolen and have police en route to AVES to get them to go get my dog and bring my dog to me. We left, went to a nearby emergency hospital where I actually watched them do proper sanitation protocols for MRSA. I couldn't believe the difference. At this other hospital, they cleared out the lobby, they had staff behind us mopping with bleach, the doctors and techs were all wearing proper gear and masks. This is how MRSA should be treated. They changed his bandage in less than 10 minutes. It took one doctor and one tech. When the doctor saw how much fluids AVES had prescribed my dog they were shocked. They wanted us to give him 600 ml of fluids daily. Which we did for about three days until it made him horribly constipated, he couldn't pee and wouldn't eat. It was overloading his kidneys. We subsequently took him to his regular veterinarian who was able to treat him and now he's finally recovering. If your pet was at AVES between 06/02/25 and 06/15/25 and contracted MRSA or MRSP, please comment on this. Your pet was likely exposed to either my dog or the animal my dog caught it from. I have reported AVES to the state licensing board, but I want every single animal that they put at risk to get the justice they deserve. I am begging you, for the sake of your fur babies, take your baby anywhere but here! In all, we spent almost $20,000 with this hospital, and we didn't even get an apology for this gross mistreatment. read more

I had to the unfortunate need to come in super later due to my cat being attacked. I was so frantic but the staff here not only saved my sweet girl but they went above and beyond confronting me. They were all so kind, and caring. They even followed up two days later to check in. If you need emergency care they are the place to visit. read more

This is a continued story regarding my granddaughter 4 year old puppy, Winnie and her internal bleeding .After a night at the 24/7 Arboretum emergency clinic on 10710 Research Blvd. Winnie still was in pretty bad shape and might require an operation, so this is where Dr. Jami Becker, DVM,DACVECC at AVES Austin Veterinary on RR 2222 took over. They knew we were coming and took Winnie from me right away. After a thorough exam again, she was requiring a CT scan that would get to the bottom of the problem......hopefully. I left Winnie in their care and after calls to her parents who were actually snow bound up in CO. and me visiting her and talking to the doctor, Winnie was actually improving . They had her in the oxygen cube to help her breathe easier. Still no real reason as to what happened to Winnie, she was just improving with IV fluids and resting. She stayed with them two nights and on Saturday afternoon her parents were able to take her home to rest and take it easy. After six days of R&R Winnie came over to see her sister Coconut, and after smelling and smelling, then running a little in the house they were happy puppies once more. Thank you are two small words but they mean oh so very much. Thank you Dr. Becker and all the vet techs for being there with the continued help Winnie needed. Blessings. read more

No one wants to go to an animal emergency room. I had to go here the other day because my little Maltese dog ate (and swallowed) 15-20 big chunks of my foam mattress topper. He threw up a couple pieces but I knew he wasn't going to throw all of it up, so I took him here in hopes they could get him to throw up more. Short version of the story: they were able to get him to throw hope a lot more of it, and the next day he passed the rest with/in his stool, and he's in the clear now. Longer version: when I got there they immediately took him away from me, which was a little jarring, even though I knew he wasn't dying or anything. They left me to sit in the lobby. Now I understand this is just the way this hospital and probably every other animal hospital works. But when you take a human to a hospital, you can be in the room with them while they do a lot of their initial stuff (vitals, etc.). It's a shame it can't be the same way, but maybe it's the volume of animals they get, and shortage of rooms? If the latter, then one possibility is they could move to another location that has more rooms? I just hate the idea that someone's dog or cat is dying and they can't spend their last moments with the animal because of this practice of removing them from their owner right from the getgo. As for everything else about the experience - it was great. The only other animal emergency room I've been to was way worse (in every way) compared to this place. This place put that one to shame. So, out of the two I've been to, I highly recommend this place! All of the AVES employees were really nice and working as fast as possible. Animals started pouring in while we were there - including one big dog they had to bring in on a stretcher. Forewarning: even if you get there before someone - if their emergency is more urgent, AVES will prioritize animals in worse condition over yours. I agree with this practice, but it's something to be aware of. How quickly your pet is treated is pretty much luck of the draw. I was also considering going to Central Texas Veterinary but they didn't get as good of reviews as AVES did, so that's why I chose AVES. I'm glad I did. read more

They were so helpful from the start. They got a gurney to help get our boy out of the car & were immediately at work. We were super impressed with the private sitting rooms & the actual hospital area. Dr. Haraway was very upfront & honest with us which is always appreciated. Caitlyn blew us away with her knowledge of every single item we went over & how professional she was. We were kept in the loop just like we were told we would be. Made an appointment several months in advance, paid a deposit, and they didn't have a room for us. The tech did the intake in the lobby which was less than ideal considering all that was going on with my dog. The important things going on she didn't write down. The unimportant things, she wrote down. made me wonder why she asked some questions if she wasn't going to give the pertinent info. to the vet. The vet was clearly in a rush. I provided my dogs records and he skipped an xray that answered everything, I pointed it out to him, and then asked about an xray. I said, "yes, it's the one I pointed out" and he didn't even try to look again. That problem was just ignored I guess? Charged more money for a test I said he didn't need because he just had it a month ago. He nodded his head and then just repeated himself that he needed the test. It was an invasive test and I said even though I don't have the record that I'm positive it was negative. He did the test even though I said no and shocker, test was negative. $200 more that's now gone. I was trying to explain a complicated issue and he interrupted me to ask his very basic question. I wanted him to have all of the info because it wasn't black and white and the vet interrupted me again and said "yes or no?" I answered and left upset because the problem could be more extensive or different entirely had he listened for 5-more seconds. Incredibly rude, but maybe it was just a bad day for them. In any case, it's $700 I'm out of for no new information and my dog is still suffering till we get in next week somewhere else. read more

AVES treated my 2 dogs for injuries after a recent fight, but returned one of them with the catheter still in place under the bandage, causing her severe pain whenever she moved. There was plenty of time to get this right, as they made me wait almost an hour to pick up the dogs after being told they were "ready for pickup." When I told my wife I took the dogs to AVES, she was horrified-- they were the ones responsible for misdiagnosing her German Shepherd Willy with "nothing serious" in 2018 and not running the test for anal gland cancer. Another vet found a significant and obvious cancer some time later; Willy died of now-untreatable anal gland cancer soon after; and her Australian Shepherd Tex died of a broken heart from the loss of Willy not long after. Not making this up. I wish I were. AVES is responsible for the deaths of Tex and Willy and causing our recently-treated dog a lot of unnecessary distress. Extreme negligence in all cases. read more

My husband was pulling up to the hospital as our sweet Berner took her last breath. AVES went above and beyond to help and put our family at ease. To us Bearjer was family, our baby girl and losing her had been incredibly heartbreaking. Reading their kind words and knowing they took the time to let us know that they are thinking of us is so thoughtful. We had three Vet clinics recommended this animal hospital and we could see why from our first encounter to now. We may live far from this facility but know it is absolutely worth it for our pets whom we love dearly. read more
