All places they tried to get needles in him
    Jody R.

I brought a sick, feral kitten to VEG and left heartbroken. Despite bringing a fecal sample and clearly explaining his recent pink eye, Giardia, and eating bird seed, no bloodwork or diagnostic tests were done. Still, they insisted it was FIP and recommended euthanasia without any proof. The vet was cold, unkind, and overconfident. My kitten was shaved and poked repeatedly, then deemed "too small" for a needle. I declined euthanasia, but the paperwork still frames that as the expected course, and I was billed $500 for basic vitals. Thankfully, I went to CityVet Urgent Care, where a cat specialist actually listened. For $1500 less, I had answers in 45 minutes. Today, my kitten is healthy and playful. VEG almost ended his life based on assumption, not care. I would not trust them with any animal.

Buster, now feeling better after coming home from the hospital.

Going to the emergency room is not an experience anyone looks forward to, especially when it involves your pets. I had the misfortune that both of my dogs ended up needing urgent medical attention within one week. Our family's vet was not available and we ended up coming here. I'm really glad we did. The doctors and staff here are incredibly kind and caring, and they tell you a lot of detailed information regarding your pet's care. The facility appears to be state-of-the-art and there was no delay in getting our dogs seen. For one of my dogs, the news was not good but the doctor got her pain meds right away and I ended up taking her home. She passed early the next morning but she was in her favorite place in the back yard with her family around, the people that loved her. My other dog had to stay a couple days at the hospital and the opportunity to be able to stay overnight in a comfortable room with my dog is unheard of. He is on the mend now at home and back to his happy, bouncy self. I am grateful for the care and consideration provided by the team at VEG. Highly highly recommended.

Thank you ladies for All did. I saw the love and hurt in your eyes too. You guys weren't going to stop trying until I said the word. That was the hardest word I've ever said. Yall were there for my best friend. I found him in a box one night after getting off a bartending shift. He was tiny and couldn't have been more than 2 weeks old. He past away, at the age of 13 going on 14 - Oct 13th, last Saturday. I'm grieving for my boy still, now. He use to carry his squeaky ball every where with him and now I carry it in my pocket and it's random squeaks make me smile. Yall did everything you could and were there, ready for us, when I needed you the most. Yall would have never stopped trying. Thank you for what you do. Thank you for his prints and tuff, they are perfect and are hanging above his bed. My gf bought the perfect frame. Thank you again! Onyx "yall thought I was a happy pup without wings‍"

We could not be happier with our choice in VEG to treat our boy, Colby. After he became lethargic and uninterested in food, my husband brought Colby into VEG, where Dr. Colby (hah!) quickly diagnosed a ruptured splenic mass. His explanation of our options and the outlook was both direct and compassionate. We opted for surgery and couldn't be more pleased with the recovery process. Colby can be anxious at the vet/away from us, so being able to visit at any time was so comforting. The staff was open to adopting all of our tips on how to work with Colby best, and let us help during procedures so he was more cooperative. Dr. Sarberry was our AM doc, and Dr. Imma was our PM doc. Both were standouts for their compassionate touch. I especially appreciated Dr. Imma being willing to go as slow as needed for Colby to be comfortable during procedures. We also had Jordan and Megan as nurses, again, both standouts who truly cared for our baby and his needs. No one wants to have a pet in the ER, but if you have to, VEG is the way to go.

It's good to know these folks are there in north Austin when you need them. Our canine had a paw injury and was in a lot of pain. We could have waited as he was not bleeding etc but for us no way we were going to let our guy be uncomfortable on a sat night and wait till Monday. We have dealt with emergency hospitals for pets in the past with mixed results health and financially speaking. They have an open concept ER and do immediate triage. They assessed gave a treatment plan previewed the cost and we moved forward. They provided immediate pain relief which the urgent clinics may not be able to do. They identified the source of the injury, cleaned him up, bandaged him prescribed NSAIDS and an E collar and we were gone. Three vets on staff. Lovely folks. Well staffed. Highly recommend if needed as an alternate to the hospitals for acute issues like injury, dehydration etc. thanks to the staff.

I want to thank the doctor who worked on May 7th, 2025. She evaluated the situation well, and tried to avoid unnecessary expense for me. My baby Orion recovered well because of her! All the other ladies who worked that night are also super friendly!

After boarding for four nights during the Thanksgiving holiday, Fiona seemed to have a nasty cold, and hives. We were going to wait until Monday morning to see her normal vet, but she was so miserable. I decided to take her in. The clinic and the staff couldn't have been more amazing. Even with several emergencies, we were seen immediately on arrival, had a treatment plan and estimate within 15 minutes, did all the blood work, got an injection, and we're out at the door in an hours time. It is an emergency room, so the cost is going to be higher than your normal vet, but getting the care your fur baby needs makes it worth every penny

The doctors were quick and communicative and even sent us pictures as we were rushing to get back. The doctors stabilized him and we got to bring him home which was my biggest wish. They gave us an extra two days to say goodbye and got him in good enough shape to be able to go in some final walks and swims. Ultimately we had to say goodbye (no fault of AVES - the emergency was caused by a fatal underlying cancer that we did not know about- our pets are great at hiding pain). Though I wish the outcome was different - I will be forever grateful to AVES for saving our boy so we could be with him and say goodbye.

My friend had the same terrible experience as I did so this is not just a one off. The doctor will never speak to you or see you after the initial first visit, he will just examine your dog for 5 minutes. The nurse will then report back whatever he says without seeming like she has even the slightest knowledge about your pets history. This was for a $1,200+ visit too. Dr. Dolan always seemed to be out of the office when I would call for my critical dogs condition as well. Also, be aware that the oncology department does not work on Fridays at this office. Even if your dog goes to their ER on a Friday with a serious problem, the Oncologist's nurse won't be able to speak with you until Monday. I had called with serious concerns about my dog on a Thursday and again just spoke to the nurse and not the Doctor. They made it seem like his symptoms weren't an issue but come to find out it was a major sign that my dog's tumor was rupturing. Have I heard from Dr. Dolan since knowing that my dog was taken into their ER that Friday and had to be put down? Nope. Because they do not care about you or your pet. Just the amount of money you give them. We also had an issue where they double charged us over $1,000 too and we had no idea for over a month. I found out at a separate ER visit from the nurse. So always check your statements! My dog had radiation treatment for his tumor at VCA and Dr. Treuil was truly incredible. He took the time to speak with me over the phone and the staff even reached out to me when they saw my dog went to the AVES ER for an eye ulcer. We were going to switch to VCA oncology since we heard great things about them, but unfortunately my dog passed before we could make the change. Please think twice before going to AVES because you will more than likely regret it.

I had just learned my dog, Bonnie, had a massive splenic mass (later found to weigh 8.5 pounds) that could rupture at any moment, yet another emergency clinic told me surgery wouldn't be possible for weeks. When I called VEG, Dr. Lisa answered and immediately said, "Come now." That moment alone meant everything! She recognized the urgency and helped me navigate an incredibly difficult decision with empathy and clarity. She is such a kind person! Dr. Nina, who performed Bonnie's surgery, was outstanding. When I met her, I immediately felt reassured because she had such a calm confidence. This was a very high risk surgery, but I felt like we were in the best place we could be. And I was right because surgery was a success! The nurses and techs - Noemy, Kelsey, and Gina - were also amazing. They stayed in constant communication and made me feel informed, included, and genuinely cared for every step of the way. I've never experienced veterinary care like this. VEG didn't just care for my dog. They cared for me and my whole family, and I will always be grateful.

The check in was so easy - I had called in advance and they texted me a check in link so when I got there that was all set. We were brought back immediately. The initial vet that took us in the open big room was so detailed with her part of the check in process, she even put us in a separate private room after learning my little man is reactive to other dogs. She was so kind and thorough. The final vet that saw us had such a caring energy - my little man never shook (like he normally does at the vet), and totally trusted her. She was thorough in her part of the exam and let us know all of our options. We left feeling relieved and well cared for. Not sure if this is typical, but we were really in and out - we were there maybe 30 min total (we went on a Monday a little after 9am, so not sure if that is typically a slower time?). It felt like a normal scheduled vet appointment. Even billing was awesome. I was emailed a receipt and requested an itemized one for our pet insurance and that was sent super fast. Yes, it was pricey ($190 for our visit) but emergency vets are always more expensive, so just expect that. Hopefully we do not have anymore emergency situations with our fur baby, but this is my local go-to should the need arise. Highly recommended!

In Dec 2023 near the long holidays, we bought a 2-month old kitten from a breeder. We named him "Simba" and just a day after we got him, Simba suddenly stop eating and drinking. As well, he vomited a few times a day causing us extremely worried. We had no idea what happened and scared he might have been poison by something we didn't know of. At the afternoon until evening on Fri, we couldn't schedule any regular vet nearby or even a bit further away. Finally, we decided to take Simba to ASAP Vet: Veterinary Urgent Care since we worried that our very little kitten might have not survived the weekend. ASAP Vet very thoroughly checked on Simba and although the vet said it was hard to say for sure what was the reasons that caused Simba to vomit and stop eating and drinking. The vet helped inject a water ball in Simba's back to prevent him from dehydration. The vet and nurse also helped removing Simba's eye boogers. As you can tell from the photo, Simba had very tough eye boogers and they irritated his eye so much causing him unable to fully open one of his eye. We tried many times, but unable to wipe them off. ASAP knew how to do it by gently combing the hairs around his eye to remove his eye boogers out completely. As well, they provided us some eye cream to help with Simba's eye infections and in just 5 days, Simba eye got back to normally, clear, bright, and cheerful. After this visit, we were able to schedule Simba to see a regular vet at Georgetown Veterinary Hospital, but it was the worst experience. The vet there did a very quick and brutally check on our kitten and then she was repeatedly saying I had no idea. She didn't provide us anything to help our kitten. We didn't think she even cared if Simba wouldn't make it to survive. 3 days after that, Simba still refused to eat and drink. It was a long holidays, so we brought Simba back to ASAP and they injected another water ball into Simba's back and provided us a syringe and liquid food to try to inject the food and water directly into Simba's mouth. Another 2 full days of unsuccessfully having Simba eat or drink, my tear dropped. We decided to gently force and inject the water and liquid food into his mouth. Magical happened soon after that, Simba started to eat and drink by himself!!! You can tell how relieved and happy we were. Soon after that we learned indeed Simba having an anxiety from getting a new owner. Although we knew getting a new owner can be very stressful for a kitten and the kitten might have been hiding and fear, we never imagined a little kitten would be in much anxiety to vomit and stop eating and drinking completely for a week. We were and are still thankful to the vet and team here. Thanks God they open an urgent care for a special hour and during the weekend. Now, Simba is 2 year old and grew up to be a big beautiful boy. Life is always too busy. If we have time, we really want to take Simba to visit the vet and team again. Thus, they can meet the big boy whose life they saved. In short: - Highly recommended - Staff is kind, considerate, and care. - The price maybe a very little higher than a regular vet, but since it is an urgent care, so the price is quite a reasonable price. Not a ripe off for sure. - Clean and Bright and no smells

This emergency hospital is closest to home so that's why we've tried it 3 times. That ended today though, we won't be back. I understand that for an emergency animal hospital acute issues are seen first. However, this location feels like the wait is forever when there's less than satisfactory communication from those working, especially from the front desk staff. Most people's pets are like family and when you have to bring them in for any type of emergency it's highly stressful for both owners and pet. I've made 3 visits here and had to wait for 30 minutes or more without being notified why and that is not okay. Feeling as if you've been forgotten while your pet is stressed, hurt or in pain is unacceptable. Sometimes all it takes is a check in to let people know they're still being attended to while waiting, and not forgotten. Today we arrived not knowing for sure if what my dog had vomited was blood or not (because we aren't trained professionals). We called before arriving to let them know we were on our way. There weren't any other pets waiting in the lobby when we arrived. The receptionist kindly checked us in, and it was quick because we had been there before. She brought paperwork over for us to verify info and sign. The first thing that I noticed is the age of my dog was wrong. This wouldn't be such a big deal if the prior two times that we had gone there, I brought it to their attention that the age of my dog was wrong. So that means they still hadn't fixed it since the last time we were there. A dog's age and weight are very important when it comes to administering any type of care. I let the receptionist know and she said she would fix. That was the last communication we had as we waited in the lobby for almost 40 minutes. People came out of the back with their animals. Other people arrived with their pets. Finally, because my dog was becoming very anxious, I decided to look up other emergency hospitals to see where else I could take her. I found one and we let the receptionist know we were leaving. They simply said okay, no questions asked and we walked out the door. I hope no other animal owners experience this type of service, lacking in compassion and care.
