Our little fur baby unfortunately had an emergency need, and his vet was not accommodating so we went back to VEG. They are incredible!!! I've tried to write this review many times and haven't been able to complete it because of the trauma and painful memories it brings back. I'm going to try to finish this today though... (this happened December 2026 right after Christmas... I'll never forget this horrible day) Please stop telling people you treat birds/chickens. It's false advertising. All you did was charge me over $1,000 while my sweet baby boy Skater suffered and passed away after receiving no meaningful care. I don't care what the emergency is- don't bother wasting precious time in an emergency situation with this place. Instead put those efforts and time into showing your bird love at home for a loving and peaceful death or to trying other things at home to save his life. I went in - there was no line or wait since it was early... maybe one or two other pets were in the back... I knew how much it would be to go to this place but I thought it was worth it for my boy. We got in there and the nurse said I'll be honest I don't think he's going to make it. I said I know but I want to try. I specifically said he desperately needs fluids and antibiotics asap please it's his only chance... I had antibiotics at home but he wasn't eating so he needed an injection which is the only reason we went in. I told her that's all we wanted was antibiotic injection and fluids in order to avoid unnecessary wasted time and charges. She then told me they'd put him in the oxygen box while they figured out when was a good time to give him fluids because they were afraid to try in that moment due to his state. They didn't even try to give antibiotics as I requested urgently. They made us wait HOURS (they made us wait AFTER admitted to prioritize all of the dogs and cats that came in AFTER us). At one point they came to try to figure out what to do and then said they would be back, that a dog or cat just came in critical condition... but mine was there first and also critical! But to this place chicken lives don't matter. They kept it up and kept saying they had to research how to do this or that. The vet said he had to look up which antibiotics he can give to chickens when I insisted I needed them to give him antibiotics asap. Then the vet just comes back mentioning they had to run bloodwork and this and that and had us sign a financial thing approving all of these things he didn't need. Unless you're trying to figure out what bacteria or parasite he has bloodwork at that state was pointless. We already know he's critical. They didn't check what he had. It's like they were just trying to bill us as much as they could and waste as much time as possible all while having him in a box where I couldn't hold him and show him love. After some hours, he was drowning in his fluids in the box and I kept telling them but they didnt care or just kept telling me to put him back. Eventually the vet was like what's best is euthanasia and at that point bc they waited so long not doing what I asked while he just got worse and worse, I said ok because he was just drowning in fluids and I knew it was too late (many hours later). This was clear negligence: no real avian expertise, complete failure to administer the urgent antibiotics and timely fluids I specifically requested, dangerous delays, unnecessary tests, and overall indifference that led to his rapid decline and death. The vet didn't even know basic bird bloodwork values. I knew more than the vet did about chickens. Had they given him antibiotics and fluids as I asked from the start, he would have likely made it--just like my other rooster who developed the exact same symptoms a few weeks later, was just as bad, and fully recovered at home with amoxicillin and toltrazuril. Im still paying off this $1,000+ bill that I've been wanting to fight but haven't been able to because when I remember this day I cry. This place is unethical. This likely won't end here- just trying to find the strength to do something about it. We drove an hour to you just to watch my baby decline without proper care. I don't think anyone cared about him there... The vet sure didn't. He was drowning many times and no one cared or noticed but me... thank God I grabbed him in the end right before his heart attack although sadly might have been too late for him to even notice. His death haunts me daily. How he was treated haunts me. He was the sweetest most loving little rescue boy that loved me more than anything... while he was very sick he dragged himself across the kitchen and living room floor to try to be close to me when I walked away for a few moments doing some chores. Lola suddenly developed a severely swollen abdomen, and we rushed her to Central Texas Veterinary Specialty & Emergency Hospital (right across the street from VEG ER), because we knew something was seriously wrong. We later learned Lola had GDV (gastric dilatation-volvulus). Unfortunately, our experience there left us devastated. We were told Lola had only a 10% chance of surviving surgery because of her age, and we were faced with an emergency surgery estimate of nearly $20,000. We were told, "She's going to die if you all don't put her down," and felt pressured to make a life-or-death decision within minutes. We left feeling scared, overwhelmed, and unsure. That is when we trusted our instincts and went to VEG ER for Pets, and it was the best decision we could have made for Lola. From the very first phone call, Caitlin was absolutely incredible. I was panicked, trying to get Lola help as quickly as possible, and Caitlin was calm, efficient, compassionate, and reassuring. She immediately made us feel like Lola mattered. We were awoken in early morning hours by our cat vomiting more liquid that I thought was possible from a house cat and this when we knew he needed immediate medical attention. We called them, told them are situation and was instructed to come in so the cat could be given fluids and medication. Everyone we met there was outstanding. Extremely professional, polite, compassionate, and wonderful with my cat. We got him checked out, got him some fluids and then came back in the morning for an ultrasound. We probably spent around 8 hours in that room and really appreciated the comfortable couch to wait on, I was even able to grab a nap. I would highly, highly recommended this place for any emergency vet needs. They got us answers we wanted, gave us meds, and an action plan moving forward. My elderly dog had a seizure and was in his postictal phase and I was panicking as I searched for the nearest clinic. Then woman who answered calmly explained what was happening and what I needed to do next. She had already sent me a text with pre registration information and directions I could simply tap on. She encouraged me to fill out the paperwork to give me a chance to calm down. I had already made my decision when I walked through the door. Regardless, the staff immediately took control as Dr. Griffin examined my dog. Dr. Griffin assured me that I was making a sound decision. While I chose not to spend a great deal of additional time with him, I did not feel rushed in any form or fashion. I had to bring my dog in quickly due to a random injury / illness. The staff is very kind and treated my dog right away. I appreciated how thorough they were and they seemed to be taking care of all the animals very well. My only issue is I do feel they kind of make up prices and see what sticks. I paid a total of almost $4,000 for bloodwork, 18 hours at vet, some probiotics and 2 X-rays. At the time I paid whatever my dog needed but after getting home and doing a lost of research and speaking with other emergency vets, the pricing is truly outrageous. For a probiotic that normally cost $35 I was charged almost $90. I showed the invoice to other ER vets and the highest total they could come up with at all the offices for everything my dog received was not even over $2,000. I've also learned that many people who say they can't afford it, magically get the price reduced. Kind of just a pay whatever you can kind of thing. I think they throw numbers on a treatment plan and see who pays willingly and who doesn't. Looking back I would not of gone to this ER and unless you are made of money I advise you don't as well. I feel very taken advantage of. Highly recommend going somewhere else that will take just good care of your animals for a fraction of the price. read more

Also they told me that they would send me a receipt via email with information for all the charges and services we received. I am writing this review one year after losing my dog following a visit to this emergency clinic. At the time, I was too devastated to share our experience. We brought her in on a Sunday because she was pooping blood, not eating, and hiding. All extremely concerning symptoms. After waiting about 45 minutes, the veterinarian performed an ultrasound and bloodwork and told us she was dehydrated. She received fluids, and we were told she could stay overnight but that it wasn't completely necessary since our regular vet would be open in the morning. We trusted that assessment and brought her home after paying $1,000. She passed away overnight. I will always question whether the severity of her condition was fully communicated to us and whether hospitalization should have been more strongly recommended. Losing her was devastating, and this experience has been incredibly difficult to process. While on a car ride today with my sweet pup, I noticed she was experiencing some unusual pain and knew instantly that something terrible was happening. I looked up the closest animal hospital and ran in with my dog in a panic, and every single person in that room acted with extreme care, professionalism, and compassion that I'm still holding onto as we speak. I unfortunately got some devastating news and had to put my dog down before I even left the hospital, but the staff there made sure me and my girl had some private time together and were as comfortable as possible as we said our goodbyes. I was pretty distraught, so I wasn't able to get any names before I left, but I just want everyone who helped me today to know how grateful I am. I went on a Sunday because our regular vet was closed and it was incredibly apparent that they're completely inexperienced with exotic pets like rabbits. They very clearly don't have the proper equipment or experience for handling rabbits. They do not have the correct sizes for checking ear canals, nor do they have the equipment to look inside your rabbits mouth. Do not waste your time coming here. The waiting period is insane, we were there from 7:30 am until 9:50 while the doctor did a bare minimum test and we left without a diagnosis. The doctor noticed inflammation in the ear and decided against antibiotics after an ear cytology and because 'they' recommend a different care plan. Whoever 'they' may be. We spent $400 to be recommended fluids, a visit with our regular exotic vet, and a suggestion that the problem might just fix itself. Hearing the staff chat and laugh outside the waiting room felt extremely unprofessional. I suggest you only come here as a last resort if you have an exotic pet. read more

Its hard to leave a 5 star review for such a terrible day but this place is amazing. Our sweet boy was hit by a car and we raced him from San Marcos to S Austin. I have been to a couple of ER vets in my life and this practice was above and beyond the best. In the past they took my suffering animal and left me outside grieving and in the dark. Here, we were with him every minute and kept informed at the bedside. My kids were able to make decisions and confront the reality of life. As a healthcare provider myself I appreciated(beyond words) the transparency and calmness. I even mentioned "I get it if people cant be there for surgery but why take your animal away!" They let me know they even allow people in surgery if they scrub in! Wow. That kind of inclusion is very healing.Our boy Lemon didn't make it but he got excellent care by Dr Max(he's Canadian yall, so nice!) and the rest of the staff who's names I forgot in the trauma . We held him while he passed in a quiet room and were given all the time we needed. Dr Max even stayed late and didn't transfer us to a stranger at a critical time of grief for my boys and I Seriously. Thank you all. This place, while delivering my wife and us bad news, actually gave us closure to what was taking our sweet boy, Archer, away from us. Something that our ex-primary vet, VCA Tanglewood, couldn't do even after charging us over $3400 to diagnose and treat his ascites symptoms. His heart was failing and was clear as day during the ultrasound Dr. Q perform for us. VCA reported his heart was healthy and a non-issue in his condition. Even after bringing in a 3rd party "specialist" that ultrasounded him. I was fully expecting to shell out for services rendered at VEG, but I was shocked how affordable, caring, and professional the employees are! The layout was memorizing as you're with your little furry friend the entire time and you get to watch how employees work with other patients. But, when the vet gave up on him at about 3 am but said for another $1500 she could do more tests and he could stay tthere overnight when it was almost dawn, It seemed I had no good choices, he was too weak to travel and too sick and I feared it would instigate a nother round of ceaseless seizures which I couldnt put him through. I don't have unlimited resources - it felt like I wqs trapped. Yhey clearly didn't want to treat him, too difficult and tiime costly. They could see quite a few dogs in the time it would take to treat mine properly or perform a surgery if necessary. Or perform more diagnostic tests to find out the exact cause of the grand mal seizures he had that started the fateful journey of his ultimate demise. I fully believe it was a monetary decision based on a very short cursory exam in which they asked me nothing. My best friend and legit service animal and medical alert dog is dead. My dog was able to detect the prodrome phase of the migraines I get 15 tp 20 days a monthp. He was so much more. i will never forgive this grossly negligent malpractice. A franchise ER seems doomed to fail, at the very least, they will fail more people like me. Don't be assuaged by smiles and condolences. Judge the action, the steps they take. read more
