I went in for basic service, oil change, tire rotation, and the need for two valve stems to be replaced. They took care of that and did a free inspection (not a State Inspection) and said I had some lights out; I had them replace the lights that were out and I was good to go. They were great! This business seemed OK for inspections and tire checks, but they can be predatory, maybe in particular with women? (Check out gender on one-star reviews). Service managers were very nice and reassuring, but pushed a level of work and pricing that is above what was needed. I finally wised up, and got second opinions twice. Generally pleasant but profoundly disorganized business. Their techs have done good work on my cars as far as the basic stuff (tires, alignment, wheel repair). Their service writers can't keep track of things and mess up appointments, order the wrong things, and so forth enough to make me wonder why I come here - but the fact is this place has good prices compared to dealerships. I needed an inspection sticker on a Saturday. They got me in and it was pleasant in their waiting room. I had my windshield wiper blades changed and my air filter was totally filled with squirrel nuts so we did that too. I got a 10% discount for having AAA, under $90 for everything, including the sticker. it's also nice when the counter staff is pleasant. My car is 2005, so I was expecting them to have a long list of things wrong . instead they told me what great shape it was in and suggested that I get it undercoated, that is not a service they provide. read more

Been here twice with 2 different vehicles. Both for alignments...both times they have not been able to do it, claiming half the vehicle has to be replaced before they can get it lined up. This place is a scam all they want to do is make you believe the vehicle is more unsafe than it really is. All they want is money. Same day they denied my car took it a crossed the street to tire warehouse they said they weren't sure what vip was talking about and were able to get the alignment done within 45 minutes! I do not recommend VIP to my worst enemy. read more

Zero Stars. This place is a scam. I became a customer a few years a go when I was desperate to get some work done but did not take the time to read the reviews. They did the work and I had no issues. This time however one of the pencil pushers lied to me. He said that I needed all new tires. I thought that was odd since I keep tabs on my tires and recently had them rotated and there were no issues. I asked had he looked at them and he waffled and asked had I seen them. I replied yes and he said that he had seen them. He proceeded to take me out to look at them and had to ask the mechanic which tire(s) had wear on them, so in fact he had not seen them. He quoted me for a heap amount of work and one of the items was to replace a bearing that they replaced last year and was still under warranty so the repair was free. I decided to go with the free repair since that made sense to try that first. For some reason, I let them convince me that an expensive repair should be done first which did not solve the problem. When I then asked them to do the free bearing repair the pencil pusher was rude and then relented. My experience of the guys behind the desk was that they were rude ego maniacs. You can count on me to never darken their doorway again. Do not go there, especially if you are female. read more

Went to have tires swapped out on my car and it took them 3 hours. There was little communication after they tried to sell me a bunch of stuff an hour after I had already been waiting. When I inspected my front windshield there were black pieces of rubber on it that I was lucky enough to peel off. A few days later I noticed my new rear wiper blade (yet to be installed) was missing from my side door. I am also fairly certain they loosened my battery connection (leaving me stranded twice) so that I would buy a new battery. read more

Just have to shout out VIP Tire for incredible customer service. I busted a hard-to-source tire while at Acadia last month. Ryan at VIP explained that it wasn't a tire he could get, but if I could find it elsewhere he'd put it on. Through some elaborate choreography, a visiting family member brought the tire half an hour before closing time on a Sunday. Not only did Ryan do a quick and professional job of installing it, he wouldn't charge me a cent. Please give these folks your business! read more

They have been caring for my vehicles for 11 years and I have enjoyed 11 years of confidence that they will handle routine maintenance, tire service and complex repairs with skill. They stand behind their work 100%, and they are very good about discussing what will eventually become necessary repairs so customers can budget for them. People tell me their labor rate is high. I don't price shop, so I don't know. What I do know is that when I pay my bill and drive away, I have confidence that my vehicle will run well and safely. Long Story Short: You will not find a better tire shop Long Story: I moved to this area 3 years ago. I went to several different tire shops in the area, including in Bangor. Usually for new regular tires, new studded tires, tire swaps, and inspections. Every single shop had the typical cons such as fabricating false issues that my brand new car had in order to squeeze extra unnecessary dollars out of me, or charging me way above the quoted price after install. I really did not hold my breath on finding a respectable spot. And then I found this one. These guys always give me exactly what I need. They give it for the price they promise. They provide easy to understand descriptions of what they offer. They make tire shopping feel legit and trustworthy. That's all I ever asked for in a tire place. And it's all here. I'm happy to find these guys. I also want to note that every single individual that I have seen working here is extremely professional and always compassionate. I'm sitting here now as they squeeze me into their busy schedule to fix a flat. Tire shopping is stressful. These guys eliminate the stress. read more

Although my initial experience with the Ellsworth location was less than optimal (as reflected by my rather scathing post), I found the representative to be genuine, apologetic, and respectful of my customer experience. I was offered a refund for the shop service fee, and more importantly a sincere apology for the less than stellar experience. The representative listened openly to my concerns and is undeniably skilled at their undoubtedly stressful job. I greatly appreciate the extra time and effort invested to ensure my satisfaction; as such, I have revised my review from 1 to 3 stars. ORIGINAL POST: "Apparently this location is self-service. Paid for a flat tire repair; the repair lasted less than five miles before going flat again. Upon returning I was informed that they had missed a secondary hole in the tire... Go figure, but you'd think they'd check for that sort of thing. Regardless, rather than apologizing and/or fixing the mistake, I was given the tire and allowed the privilege of changing it myself in the parking lot while employees waddled out of the shop 30 minutes before closing. You'd think they'd offer to mount the tire, considering that's what I paid for... but that's clearly expecting too much from individuals who couldn't seem to care less about customer service. Before coming to VIP I brought my newly purchased used van to a different shop. They were going to charge me an arm and a leg to get work done. VIP told me the $350 the other shop was going to charge me was way overpriced. VIP invited me to come in the shop and look underneath my van to see what was going on. Brought car in for alignment. Got a call saying they were unable to do alignment because tie rods were bad and needed to be replaced before they would do alignment. Two weeks before, my car was inspected and gone over by my mechanic and they said all was good. Immediately I brought my car back to my mechanic and he again said all was good. I've had good service here (thanks, Adam!) and bad. At one point, at the end of an oil change, they overtightened the oil plug, and an hour later I noticed oil leaking from my car at a pretty good clip. I lost confidence in this outfit when, some months later, I brought in the same car for a repair that involved, among other things, replacing the battery. I paid, drove home, popped the hood, and noticed that my battery was the same old grimy one that they had supposedly replaced. After I complained, they said there'd been some mix-up between the service writer and the mechanic, and I ultimately did get my new battery. It could indeed have been sloppiness instead of attempted fraud, but neither possibility makes me feel better about VIP. read more

VIP has treated us so well. The first time we came was for two cars to get an oil change. We called that day with very little notice and they got us in same day. They changed it and had us out in no time. The second time we came for two cars to get inspection stickers and they gave us both one no problem. They noticed something with my tire and got me in as soon as I wanted to get it fixed. They thought I had a different part than I actually did so they found the correct version of what I needed and upgraded me, as well as knocked $12 off the price that I would've paid on the original part for the upgraded part. They are always quick, kind, and generous. They are definitely our go-to choice! read more

Dave and Paul are awesome! My friends and I were 4 hours away from home when one of our tires popped. We went to VIP and they went above and beyond with helping us. Even though our size tire wasn't in stock, they checked other locations and made an appointment for us at another store and made sure it was all situated to drive off. Took my car in for a routine diagnostic and not only was I lied to about parts that needed to be replaced (ones that had been replaced within past few months) but they broke the hood latch. They didn't bother telling me they'd broken the latch, simply put a smaller one on that required forcing your hand in under the hood to release and sent me on my way. A week later when attempting to open the hood I discovered the missing latch and took the car back in to report it. I was told that they had indeed broken it and that they would order a new one and replace it for free. Over a week later I still hadn't heard back so called again only to be told that the latch currently on the car was the one it came in with and they wouldn't be replacing anything. Needless to say neither of my vehicles will ever be going here again. read more
