visiting family for Christmas. 5 hours from home. headlights stopped workin. Midas took me in promptly. Spent 1 hour to diagjose / fix lights. charged me $200. Less than 2 hours on the road, lights died. drove rest of the way holding high beam lever on. contacted them next day I was told to go to another site. all 1+ hour away. local mechanic diagnose and properly fixed in 1 hour. i made appointment to get an alignment and rotation. They told me that they wouldn't do an alignment because my ball joints were "fried". This diagnosis was made 300 miles after having my inspection sticker put on. 2 other service shops inspected and determined that not only were the ball joints fine but my alignment was still in spec and not needed. This place will try to scam you for un needed work, and should the work actually be needed their past work has been had to be repaired by another mechanic after it was completed. Lukas was very friendly and knowledgeable. He had to pick us up in Bar Harbor because our friend's power steering went out while we were on vacation. He offered a free estimate and transportation back and forth. Turns out the problem was under warranty so he recommended we take it to the dealer back in Boston after our vacation. He refused to even take a tip for his trouble even though he didn't do the service and drove us back and forth to Bar Harbor. Super great service! read more

We had a minor request that required someone to get under the car. We stopped in without an appointment, and asked if they could help us. It wasn't busy and it was near closing time and the manager checked with the tech and then they agreed to help us. They were both kind and respectful, and it was a very positive experience. They were generous with their time and we definitely appreciated it. I will certainly use Midas in Ellsworth for any car maintenance needs. They were great. Geno helped me and he was awesome, very personable. They called me to check if I was okay with the diagnostic price before any further investigation. I had a rattling on the underside of my car after I pulled out a branch that had gotten stuck there. I called a half dozen Ellsworth auto repair shops to see if they could put it on a lift to check it out this afternoon. All were booked solid and couldn't look at it today, or, in many cases for a week or more. Finally I called the Ellsworth Midas location, and they said I could bring it in at 3:30 and they would check it out. I brought it in, within 5 minutes they had it on a lift and the manager reported that a heat shield had come loose and they could fix it by reattaching it with a couple of rivets. They did and 10 minutes later they finished and the car was ready to go. When I asked them what I owed, they said I owed nothing. They certainly made a future customer out of me. read more

Please read before using these guys. My reg mechanic tied up for 3 weeks. took to midas for exhaust leak and inspection. They called to say my undercarriage was so rusted it would not go through inspection, repair would be $2200. Rear brakes gone, front tires bald (which i knew) Total, $3400 Decided to go see my regular mechanic, the rust was the size of his thumb nail. Rear brakes MAY need to be replaced next year. Stopped here because I thought I was having some alignment issues with my 2016 F150. Staff was friendly and they drove the truck then looked it over for a while. They said while it did need an alignment the main issue appears to be with the electronic power steering Ford uses. They even looked up a recall Ford had for this and gave me the paper to take to Ford. Overall while they were not able to fix the issue there they seemed ho eat and have me the info I need to have Ford take care of it. read more

Came to this location to get an oil change, alignment and potentially fix the air compressor. Was informed they cannot do an alignment because we needed new ball joints. Was also quoted 2800$ to fix the air compressor. Thankfully did research to discover the cost of this work is not 2800$. Was able to make our trip towing our RV to Georgia thankfully before our tires went completely balled and blew while towing. Was able to contact a local shop who inspected our truck and informed us we did not need ball joints. Just an alignment. That shop replaced our tires and aligned our tires no thanks to Midas trying to over charge and suggest a repair we didn't need. Also learned that Midas wanted to charge at least 1k$ more for the air compressor. Because of them wanting to over charge and suggest a repair we didn't need it put us and other drivers on the road in danger. We unfortunately were on a short time so we could not stay in Maine to get the work done and had to do it in Georgia. Many miles apart and many opportunities for something to go wrong. I really hope this shop will reevaluate their values and will do the work that needs done and not try to upsell and leave a customer on the road in a potentially dangerous state. As for the AC it is not a necessity so we didn't need it done but if it was that is an outrageous over charge on a repair. read more

I had two great experiences here this summer. I had a question about my breaks on a Saturday morning. They checked it out found no problem; I expected a diagnostic charge but they didn't charge me and I was on my way. The second time was for a vehicle inspection on a week day they got me in and out with no delay. It was nice they didn't try to hit me up with a bunch of made up repairs just to pass inspection. A number of folks in the shop at the same time, mentioned they bring their cars in because they know they'll get an honest evaluation and only be asked to repair what needs repairing. Old fashioned service and courtesy, what a novel concept. They do book up on Saturdays, probably because of their honesty, so I would suggest scheduling an appointment if that's your only day to get repairs. Mid-week, probably you can get in as a drive up customer. read more

After bringing 2 cars here for years..the manager Sean left and they have a new manager Brian didn't think much of it and had the rear brakes done on 1 car...well one week later the brakes let go on the car and it was destroyed. Called Midas corp. and they had the owner contact me...said was not their fault..but did offer half price repairs or free check on any car I might want to replace destroyed car with..hmmm. Well when tow truck came to take away old car the rear wheel would not turn after removing the brake pad was wrapped around caliber..hmmm. Also just to let you know Brian recommends that a lot of expensive work needs to be done on you car, but he will take it off your hands and the next week it is for sale out in front of Midas. read more
