The confirmations not only reminded me of the actual time of my flight, but when I could check-in, and gate changes as well! Based on previous flight experiences, I downloaded the mobile application which provided me with leeway prior to my arrival at Evans terminal - Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW). As someone who not only had just a carry-on bag with me, but had to drop off a rental car as well; the mobile application provided me with my boarding pass and allowed me to check-in ahead of time and head straight to TSA rather than to see an American Airlines agent. As for my airport experience, TSA was expectedly crowded, but the line moved at a very acceptable pace! The only things I removed were my shoes, belt, jacket, half marathon medal, and my obsidian bracelet and ring placing each item inside of my bag or backpack. And I had no issues whatsoever when going through the body scanning machine because I had removed everything I forementioned. The American Airlines gate was easy to locate within Evans terminal; it appeared professional, even with some of its hidden flaws like USB and charging outlets that do not work. Now, the boarding process felt painless for this flight back to Chicago, even being part of boarding group 9 which boards last! It was a very organized process unlike my experience boarding with the American Airlines in Philadelphia Pennsylvania which reminded me of flying with Spirit Airlines, tehehe, but I digress! While onboard the flight, I relaxed since the flight was short from Detroit, Michigan to Chicago, Illinois. The only communication I had with the flight attendants was the boarding flight hello, and the airplane departure "thank you" and "goodbye" greeting. As for the airplane interior, I loved that the seat was spacious enough to where I could adjust myself while seated. I had an acceptable amount of foot space to where my military-style backpack could fit underneath the seat in front of me. And I was grateful to have a USB and charging outlet within the seat area in order to charge my cell phone because the last thing I wanted was to have a dead cell phone prior to arriving at my destination. In closing, I am open to choosing and recommending American Airlines to a friend, relative or colleague after this experience. Safe travels, and blessings to all that read this review. ~Blessings~ Thomas G

This goes out to the women who fly internationally. Do not fly Turkish Airlines. On a recent trip I…read morewas flying on Turkish because of the price. On the flight home from Istanbul to Chicago I dozed off on takeoff. I was woken by an extremely gross smell. Upon opening my eyes there was a pair of naked feet in front of me up against my closed tray table. I was in an aisle seat, middle section, and the man sitting on the other aisle seat had taken off his shoes and socks, put down the middle tray table, had his legs on the table and his bare feet in front of me. I asked him to put his feet down, nicely, and he just looked at me. I assumed he didn't speak English so I pointed at his feet and then the floor. Here's what happened next: He raised his hand as if to hit me. I jumped out of my seat, reached over and pressed the call button. A flight attendant came and I showed her the situation and told her he had threatened me. She didn't see the "problem ", her word, and told me he had a right to do it. She then asked the man in Turkish, I assume, to put his feet down. He ignored her. Another flight attendant came over and I again explained what happened and that I was feeling sick and nauseated. They told me they could not reseat the man and that different airlines have different rules. Finally, a male flight attendant came over and talked to the man. The man put his feet down and the flight attendant proudly informed me he got the man to put his socks back on, problem solved. As the flight was less than full I asked if I could move. They said no problem. I asked if I could move to business and they lied and said it was full. We were just behind business and when the curtain was open it was obvious it wasn't full. They could have just said no they didn't have to lie. I gathered most of my stuff and found an aisle seat a couple of rows back. At this point I felt like I was going to vomit and went to the toilet. I was in there for over 20 minutes retching. At one point a flight attendant knocked and asked if I was okay. I said no, she walked away. When I got out of the toilet I went to retrieve a couple of items I hadn't moved. One of the flight attendants moved what I had left in my original seat to my new seat. 1 or 2 small things were missing, I don't care. The flight attendants reiterated to me the man was in the right, they had informed the pilot and he agreed. I filed a complaint with Turkish on their website. They acknowledged receipt and said they would get back to me within 14 days. That was about 3 weeks ago. My bottom line is this. I know there are cultural differences. But all the flight attendants deferred to the man. The female flight attendants would not speak to him, with the one exception, only the male flight attendant. The bare stinky feet were bad enough but they stuck up for the man for physically threatening me. I shudder to think what could have happened if he had actually attacked me.

Now the shocking part here is that after seeing me being sick, the staff did not offer help. The biggest shock is when I requested help, I was denied help twice. 1 - I had a bag full of vomit and requested another bag to dispose it, I was told they don't have any big bag and denied taking it from my hand while I was tearing and coughing my throat out. 2 - when I requested to take my vomit full of blanket to discard, the staff told me to do it myself or shove it behind the chair. 3 - when I asked for any medicine, I was denied instantly. I cannot believe the incompetency, rudeness and untrained staff behaviour. No words to this. This was my first experience with Turkish Airlines

Our first flight was a direct flight from Detroit, Michigan to Frankfurt, Germany (10hr flight). The overall flight was pleasant initially until we had to land. Our next flight was scheduled by United Airlines with one their partners Discover Airlines which took off at 4:45am. Mind you the flight to Frankfurt wasn't supposed to land until 6:15am. What was so frustrating in this moment was that our connecting flight was originally supposed to leave at 8:30am giving us ample time to get from Frankfurt to Chania, Crete. The unfortunate and most frustrating part of this was that we were not updated of the change and we were completely stuck in a foreign country where it was not pleasant getting a rescheduled flight to Athens, Greece. The online help in rebooking us on the flight was great but yet again we almost missed the connecting flight from Athens, Greece to Chania, Crete due to a late departure and barely 20 minutes to depart a 300 person plane (we were at the back). Somehow we made it and were able to board our flight to Chania, Crete to start our honeymoon. The experience there was breathtaking and I'd recommend going to anyone...just not through United Airlines or their partners as if there is a booking issue they point at the other airline and state it is their fault, no responsibility is taken and they give you a $100 voucher for your wasted time, rebooked flights, and refund your checked bags. My time is worth more than $100 which I cannot get back. With the delays we arrived 5 hours later than expected. Luckily our bags somehow arrived. We thought that this was the end....but we were wrong. On October 21, 2025 we flew home through our flight from Chania, Crete to Athens, Greece. We left on time and made it to Athens. We made our second flight from Athens to IAD in Washington D.C. We made it to the US! It took 15 minutes to reach the gate where another plane landed 15 minutes late and thus we ended up sitting for 45 minutes before we could even deboard. We had to deboard, go through U.S. customs and reclaim our bags. This is where our nightmare began. The baggage we thought and were told to pickup after going through customs was supposed to be at baggage carrier 3. We waited. And waited but our bags never showed up. Why you ask? Well that's because they went to Frankfurt, Germany where who the hell knows why. We never had a connection there and United blamed it on their partner Lufthansa. Either way we had no bags, no connecting flight cause mind you we had 1 hour to get through customs, grab the bags, go through security, and reach a gate on the other side of the airport. Well we missed it of course and the nerve of this airline blaming it on TSA agents. That's when my nerve broke and I started to lose my cool. Well we demanded they rebook us and of course there were no more direct flights to Detroit for that day. So it was either stay the night and wait for a flight the next day or take a connection to Chicago which then connected to Detroit. Well we decided that route. Mind you we arrived on time in Chicago but of course the terminal was on the other side 18 minute walk. We made it just in time 5 minutes to boarding. We boarded and made it to Detroit at 11:48pm October 21, 2025. Our baggage never arrived and is scheduled to hopefully arrive today at 3:09pm and delivered to our home. This was the worst international flight experience my wife and I ever had. In the future we will be taking direct flights and if I can avoid United or their partners I will do such that.

There was an option to pay $15 more per person for expedited security. I hesitated because there are four in my family, but paid to have peace of mind. I printed the boarding passes. When we got to TSA Pre-check, I showed the boarding passes and they said I had to return to the check-in counter to get a sticker or stamp. I did and they said that the airport (Detroit International) was "too small" for JetBlue to have this feature (even though this is a huge hub for many airlines)! But, I could call JetBlue and get a refund - no problem. (This made no sense!) We ran to the regular Security, at the other end of the terminal. When I called JetBlue, the first agent told me that I couldn't get a refund because we had already used the tickets (!) - i.e. that we hadn't made the call (which took 30 minutes) before going through Security (!), but we could get a JetBlue credit on a future flight. I asked to speak with the manager and spoke with two managers, and the 2nd manager said she couldn't change the policy and actually hung up on me (!). I called back and was greeted courteously and the matter was taken care of. The agent said I would get a refund and even apologized for the drama (!). Persistence pays off, but what kind of customer service is this?
