The Gold Hill Hotel - Blanket in closet. I wouldn't let my outside kitty sleep on this.

As a local (Minden), I've been staying at the Gold Hill Hotel for many years and I always come back…read morebecause I like the old history and building. I've had many experiences with ghosts in the many rooms I've stayed in which is always a highlight. We recently rode our Side by Side up there with friends to spend the night and had an amazing dinner and dessert at the Crown Point Restaurant. I have to say that I've never had a bad meal there and this time it was exceptional. We love to sit in front of the fireplace in the old world, cozy bar and enjoy drinks before retiring to our room and if you get one of the balcony rooms you wake up to views of the Sierra. There are new owners and they are very accommodating and they like to visit with their guests in the bar. All the drinks we had were good and the staff were friendly. If you want to take a step back in time and have a relaxing evening where you can do it all then this is your hotel

We asked for a refund and the person we spoke to said we would be refunded the next day and that the owner would call, so we drove all the way back down the mountain and went home. The next day we called and they said the fridge making noise was not a good enough reason for a refund. It was so loud and we were told we were getting refunded. We asked why the cleaning staff didn't let them know that there was an issue, and she said the housekeeper hadn't been there for a week. Shouldn't they check the place before renting it out if it's been locked up in the winter for a whole week? If we knew we weren't going to get a refund, we would have tried something else but I think we were told this to get us to leave. So disappointing and sad. We were very respectful and told them immediately that there was a problem. Listen to this video! You can barely hear us talk. It was impossible to stay there.

What a beautiful and quaint venue with both inside and outside space. Located inside the Rancho San Rafael Park and bordering the Ranch House grounds is the Wilbur D. May Arboretum. There are multiple rooms with a kitchen and bar area. I noticed there was an upstairs available too. I was informed that the venue was inexpensive. If you want to have a sit-down meal the space is limited. The weather was nice which meant a lot of people took advantage and were seated outside in the courtyard. The full house not including the kitchen is $90.00 an hour with a two-hour minimum and a maximum of 150 people along with a $500 cleaning deposit which is refundable. There are multiple rooms inside along with a bar and a kitchen area. They have big refrigerators and a fair amount of space inside the kitchen. The courtyard is shaded and very comfortable, even in the summer. The best part I think is the access to the park. If you guests need to take a breather they can walk a couple of steps and be in the trees. Thumbs Up!

You really feel like you are coming home when you step onto the property. Since moving my girl in, I have noticed that she is so calm and relaxed, and has honestly never been happier. There are many areas to ride, but my favorite remains the indoor arena. I look forward to being out of the cold and nasty weather this winter. The owners are very friendly and always ready to answer any questions you may have.  After Whisper's first night at the ranch, I received a message from the owners the following morning to let me know that she had settled in well. That alone proved to me that I had made the right decision by boarding at Corkscrew, as they care for my girl as much as I do.  Corkscrew also has 3 resident dogs that are total love bugs, so beware, you will want to take the cuties home with you.  I highly recommend anyone reading this to come out and see for yourself what a great place Corkscrew Ranch is! Update: I boarded here until recently and I am so happy I was able to. This is a truly amazing facility and Lowell and Shannon are amazing people with hearts of gold. When my horse got colic, these two had treated her like she was one of thier own. It took a few hours to get ahold of me, and in that time, they walked her for countless miles to help her condition. I could not be more thankful for these people or this ranch!

They arrived prepared to be surrounded by heartache and loss, but once there, it helped shift the mood from grief to gratitude. Our friend loved this place, and it felt deeply meaningful to honor her in a setting that reflected her spirit. I want to personally thank Iris, who helped me coordinate. She was so kind, attentive, and accommodating--making sure we had everything we needed and being available throughout the process. Her support made a big difference. The energy of the River School Farm helped our smiles rise above our tears. It truly created a space that felt like community. I cannot recommend this place enough

Close to the Truckee River, tucked in a little pocket of Reno by Mayberry Park, we couldn't have asked for a spot that felt as private and serene. We wanted our day to feel like a slightly fancy-outdoorsy family reunion and knew this spot would be perfect when we visited it in the spring. By the fall, the greenery around the venue had filled in, making the area (and all our photos) extra beautiful. The available space can be set up in many different layouts. The ceremony area easily fit our guest list of 40, with room to spare. Then, it doubled as an area for games and later a bit of casual dancing by just moving a few chairs. We loved having a few different but connected areas for guests to spend time together. The owners were so helpful explaining everything about the venue. Many thanks to both for sharing such a wonderful space that is clearly cared for and kept with much love.
