Virginia Credit Union has a helpful staff at this location. Anytime I've gone in, the team has been professional, polite, and willing to take the time to answer questions. That kind of service makes banking here easy and personal. Where they fall short is with their application and technology. The online tools and mobile app feel dated compared to other banks and credit unions. It all works, but it could definitely use an upgrade to be more user-friendly and modern. Overall, the people at this branch make the experience a positive one, but the technology side keeps me from giving a full five stars. read more

I tried for three hours yesterday to call the mortgage number to ask a question about my mortgage. I got through to a human three times and all three times they said that they were not the mortgage department. I went into this branch with the intention of asking the question and there was nobody there to answer my question so they called me back but then they would not send me the answer in writing and said I would again have to call the phone number. I just need to speak with one human in the mortgage department. Why is that so hard? read more

Just the worst, they took over my loan from MemberOne and it's been nothing but problems.

On May 7, 2025, I visited a VACU branch at Glenside & Broad in person to complete the necessary paperwork to have my car loan payments automatically drafted from my new financial institution (as well as a personal loan and I asked that my checking account and all other accounts be closed). During that visit, I provided my new financial institution account information, so that there would be no gap in payments. I was assured at that time that everything was taken care of. Unfortunately, the payments for May were never drafted from my new account for my car loan, and I received no communication from VACU indicating that the payment setup had failed or that split payments could no longer be accommodated. In fact, the first notice I received regarding any issue did not arrive until approximately six weeks later, stating that VACU would no longer be drafting my payments. As a member of Virginia Credit Union for over 20 years, and with a history of never having missed or been late on a loan payment, this situation has been both frustrating and disappointing. I took all the appropriate steps, in person, to ensure my payments would continue on time through the new auto-draft instructions, and I acted in good faith. On a call Tuesday, July 15 at 10:30am with Jessica I asked several times why the auto-drafts were not deducted for the car payments in May (they were for the personal loan) and there was silence. I was told by Jessica that your EBT department "does not reach out to people when paperwork is not filled out properly." The person at the branch incorrectly completed paperwork for the movement of my auto-draft for the car loan, when I went in and proactively signed papers to make sure that nothing like this would happen. The process of transferring out of VACU to another institution has been clunky, without proper communication and quite honestly maddening. If you look at the poor reviews of this company online - they are missing the mark for many customers, which is why many of us are moving our accounts to other institutions. read more

I've been a member since 1980. Now that VACU has been taken over by a larger entity, the days of calling in and speaking with a local friendly associate are over, and customer service does not appear to be a priority. It will be a pain to switch my minimal direct deposits and automatic drafts from VACU to the bank that handles my other accounts, but at least it will be a one-time headache as opposed to the constant headaches I now experience with every VACU interaction. What once made VACU special and convenient has been lost. What a shame. read more

They post debits before credits resulting in unfair overdraft charges. I thought banks did away with this year's ago. My experience with consolidating credit cards and getting a lower interest rate on my car loan was great at the beginning with lots of follow up, then the ball was dropped to complete the consolidation and I had to call a week later. They didn't check the payoff info until I had completed all their requests only to be turned down after they led me to believe it was a done deal. read more

terrible misunderstanding unable to see a accidental late night click! damaged my credit! i wrote them after i got the email loan was denied. wondering what a loan might cost and accidently got in you are applying for a loan by the way there is not a loan that does not include wife anyway just listed myself and yes an 85 thousand dollar car loan was denied and reported to the 3 credit bureas. the 85 thousand dollar car would have gone great with my 7 thousand dollar cars. not nice people would not suggest anyone do business with these uncaring people read more

Made mistake in depositing & transferring my funds into my accounts- If the person was training then someone should have checked the deposits had been made correctly- don't you think? Go figure! Also banker forgot to return my 2 IDs. Odd- where was this banker's focus? read more

Be very careful with this institution! Their record keeping and notes are horrible. Had to file a complaint with the State Corporation Commission in regards to their credit card services. Their auto loan section was pretty decent, but I will say keep your own notes on transactions! read more

The Virginia Credit Union is the worst bank to deal with. They have high fees and their customer service is horrible. The Chesterfield Federal Credit Union did their members an injustice by merging with this place. I would never recommend this place to anyone. read more

Admittedly, it's pretty hard to be excited about a bank, but the wife and I have been pretty happy with VACU. Given their smaller footprint, I have seen that their lending (particularly for mortgages) and savings rates are pretty competitive relative to larger banks, but has a much more personal feel from a customer experience perspective. Even if they don't have the scale of a national bank, they do offer/honor some similar perks like ATM rebates. I really like the extended Drive Thru hours (until 6p) and the feel of a local bank (even if I rarely go inside a branch). At VACU, I feel like a customer, not a number, and that's a huge plus in my book. The main detractors for me is the scarcity of branches and fairly basic online/mobile banking functionality (just started offering mobile deposit recently). read more

I love banking with the credit union. I have been a member of VACU for 13 years, and I haven't had a single issue with my bank. There are so many advantages to banking with a credit union, and I have reaped some of the benefits. VACU offers a program where after every uneven amounted purchase made on your debit card, they round up and put the remaining amount in your savings account. There are no fees to have both a checking and savings account, and APRs for auto and personal loans, as well as credit cards, tend to be lower than with bigger credit card companies. This branch in particular has employees that have worked here for several years, and this is something I love to see. in my opinion, it makes me think they enjoy their work environment and their jobs in general. They are always so friendly and quick! Sometimes there are long lines inside, but the tellers are really quick and efficient with getting people what they need so that they can go on with their days. I definitely recommend banking with VACU- I actually recommend it to every person that starts to openly complain to me about fees and other issues they have with other bigger banks. Deposited thousands of dollars into the WRONG account despite the correct acct number being written on ALL checks being deposited. When brought to their attention immediately the following morning advised they would correct it in "24-48 hours"!!! No apology. VACU in general evidently refuses to staff their lobby or call center adequately. Their expectation seems to be that customers should be satisfied routinely waiting 10-20 minutes in line and 15-30 minutes on the phone. Those are not the exception but the expectation. After identifying oneself 6 ways from Sunday on their automated frustrator you are challenged all over again with the same series of pin, member #, bd, etc. still again after waiting 20 minutes on hold. Then they ask even more questions which you may or may not immediately know the answer as a further security challenge. Seems a lot more like a power trip than a security measure. I HATE this credit union. I would NOT recommend them. They are likely the single least competent financial institution I've ever dealt with and certainly the single most challenging & difficult to deal with. I WOULD specifically recommend NOT doing business with them if you value your peace of mind. It reminds me of somebody operating a bank out of their basement or garage. read more
