Five stars for Jimmy, both as a host and a committed steward to the Virginia Creek fishery! This is now a core memory for our kids thanks to your hospitality! We were staying up the road and walked down to check out the fish hatchery. After reading about the program we decided we needed to bring our kids to see it. After watching these massive trout swim around for awhile they read that they could feed the fish if they went inside and asked for Jimmy, and I've never seen them move so fast. The nice woman at the host stand hooked them up with food and told them Jimmy was throwing pizzas, but he'd come out to say hi. As it turns out, Jimmy is the owner of the property, the chef, and the hatchery manager too! His passion is infections and it's so obvious he loves this place so much. We enjoyed learning about the property, hatchery and fishery from him, and the kids felt like they'd made a friend for life. There's a restaurant here too and a little play area in the back of the restaurant, making this a great roadside stop. They also have fun accommodations including cabins, covered wagons, and others, all situated with a nice break from the highway. We came back with our younger son and he loved it as much as the older two kids! That visit we enjoyed the restaurant, which I'll review separately. read more

What a hidden gem along Highway 395 in eastern California's Mono County. The pictures don't do it justice. The quaint, cabin-style setting felt cozy and intimate, and I was pleasantly surprised by how clean and well-prepared everything was for my stay. I stayed in a studio-style cabin with a separate room featuring bunk beds, plus a restroom and shower equipped with heating and AC. The beds were surprisingly comfortable, and the cabin stayed warm even when it was 30 degrees outside. If that doesn't charm you enough, just step outside and take in the picturesque rolling mountains--covered in snow this time of year--and appreciate the character and care the owner has put into the property. Customer service was excellent: quick, friendly, and hassle-free. They even gave us supplies to make s'mores, which we enjoyed by our private outdoor fire pit. Overall, this place exceeded my expectations, and I'd love to come back in the spring and summer to enjoy it all over again. read more

We stayed here for 2 nights in a cute little cabin with our travel warrior pups. We were in 15 at the end of the camping area which was nice as it had a good sized little side yard area. Overall the cabin was comfortable and roomy for the 4 of us. They get 5 stars on the pillows which were nice/quality. Because our dogs are bed sleepers when we travel... my hubs had the queen with the pups and I took the bunk. I did have to make up my own bed which seemed odd but perhaps they assumed with 2 humans I would be in the queen. Loved that they don't charge pet fees, but you also don't get any housekeeping (they seemed to have emptied the trash but that was about it). It is off the 395, so you will hear the traffic, even with windows closed. They give you a little bag on checkin that has some coffee pods/cups, fish food and a little s'mores kit which was a nice touch! WiFi was excellent as well given cell service is nonexistent if you have T-Mobile. My husband tried some wings in the restaurant and said they were okay but pricey. I would stay here again 100%. read more

We staid the weekend at the Virginia Creek Settlement. They have rooms that are cabin style, rooms in old covered wagons, old bulding like the dentist or bank, they have a family suite that has 3 bedrooms and is the top floor above the restaurant and office. You check in at the hostess stand in the restaurant for your room, they provide you a goodie bag with a smores kit, fish food to feed the trout from their trout project, coffee kit and a map to your room, where to park, the wifi password, along with your code to enter your room. All the doors are pass code lock so you dont have to carry around a key or card. We had a cabin room and the family suite. Both were cute and rustic. They also provide gas powered fire pits around the cabins, community bathrooms for those mini cabins and camp sites. They have corn hole areas, picnic tables, and yard tetrus, and chess boars. They also have creek access for fishing, a fish gutting station and gas bbqs you can use during your stay. This little place was so cute, we loved our time here and cant wait to go here again in the future. The cabin rooms provide TV, mini fridge and coffee pot, ceiling fan, AC and heater as well as extra blankets. We got one of the best night sleeps we've had in a while, their beds are so comfortable and its very peaceful and quite at night. read more

What an amazing place! We stopped in the middle of a blizzard (2/17/2026) after getting stopped several times due to multiple wrecks on the highway. I found this place online while we were following a CHP escort over the treacherous roads from Biahop--they closed the highway completely right after we went through. None of that is relevant to this review except for we would have been thrilled with the sparsest of accommodations, and this was far beyond sparse. The cabin style room was nice and warm, as our host had turned the heater up as soon as we called to verify the online reservation. We were given a cute gift bag with coffee fixings, fish food for their Trout Project tanks, and a s'mores kit. The beds were comfy and the "spare" blankets were big and fluffy! The bathroom was a good size with a great tub and shampoo, lotion, etc., provided. Dinner from the restaurant was absolutely delicious! We will definitely plan a trip back and spend a couple days when we can enjoy the area more. read more

I love this place so much! The cabins are clean, sweet and cozy and the restaurant is inviting and warm and even does breakfast with free coffee for guests. Food is great and so is the service. The setting is beautiful with a river flowing behind the cabins and pet friendly too. I was just passing through but was tempted to stay an extra night as it was just so relaxing. My partner and I stayed at Virginia Creek Settlement the first night of our Eastern Sierra camping getaway. It's a great stop to jet-set you on your adventure. Our accommodations were basic, but comfortable, in our "Tent-Cabin". But, for $70/night I would have hoped for something extra in the room like a coffee maker or mini-fridge or small TV. The cabin was just a table with chairs, and two full size beds. The only other small bother was that it is located along the main stretch of road (the 395), and you could hear cars driving by. The shared bathrooms were very comfortable. They are shared use, but they still offer the privacy you want because they are single-stalls. Virginia Creek Settlement offers a nice touch of courtesy by providing personal bags of s'mores and fish food in the rooms for their guests. Community fire pits are located all over the property for guests to enjoy the warmth under the stars and cook their delicious treats together. A restaurant is available on site, which is a great convenience in such a remote area! We would definitely return here, but perhaps when we don't book it so last minute, and a fancier cabin is available. read more

Great campground. Not tents but tent cabins, which is essentially a wooden shed along with regular cabins available. Located right on the main Hwy 395 and nestled along Virginia Creek, which can be heard from any or every spot there. 1st time here and I'm very satisfied. Tent cabins have a small trickle propane heater which kept it warm on the 30+ degrees nights although I suspect that any lower and it would be chilly. Beds and linens provided. Very nice warm blankets actually and they will provide more if you ask. There is one outlet, a small table, two chairs and a fan. Nice clean property. Several community propane grills, complete with bbq utensils. There is also a community kitchen complete with a coffee maker, microwave, a small fridge and a sink of course. BTW they provide guests with coffee pods. There is also a fish project which consists of two large tanks with different size fish in each. It's a way of contributing back two o the fish population. They provide you fish food too. Propane grills and chairs outside of every unit. Complete with the makings for s'mores provided when you check in. Nice grassy areas, giant Connect Four game, along with Horseshoes, Corn Hole and Chess. Very comfortable hammock if you're able to get in without falling. Restrooms as clean. Only one toilet and one shower per sex but it seems to be sufficient with a full house . One main trail across the creek which you could walk miles in either direction. Pricing for tent cabins are pretty reasonable considering the fall season is one of the busiest. Attached is a small restaurant that's known for their pizza. Didn't get that but had a very nice breakfast, a lot better than I anticipated. Certainly better than the one place near by in Mono. I will come back here repeatedly. If I had to complain, the old spring mattress isn't the best but it sure beats sleeping on the ground. Otherwise it was amazing snd one of the most memorable vacations I've had. Employees were nice although I only had cause to speak to a couple. The location is a great hub for hiking and fishing adventures and I am already planning my next trip. read more

Virginia Creek Settlement was a surprise gem - booked a cabin for a weekend trip with moderate expectations. The cabins were super clean, more clean than some decent hotel rooms I have stayed in! The restaurant was shockingly delicious - I just expected mid level food that was passable and some of the things we had were the best I've ever had. It was quiet and peaceful, management and staff were great, and truly a delightful experience. read more

Loved this little "campground". We had a small tent which was a tiny little cabin consisting of a full bed and a set of bunk beds along with a small table. The smell of the cedar is strong but it adds to the feel of the cabin. Each site has its own fire pit and they give you a welcome bag with goodies to make s'mores It also contains food for the fish tanks. I was a bit confused at first because I thought I was for the small river that runs along side the camp. We did find the fish tanks. The bed was comfy and they give you plenty of blankets and towels. We used the all gender bathrooms which were very clean and the showers as well. Loved our stay read more

This place is really neat to stay at. They have several cabins with full bathrooms. They also have some small cabins, but you have to walk to a shared bathroom and there is also two covered wagons that you can stay in fairly cheap in price. This place has its own fish hatchery and they give you some fish food to feed them. There is also a separate restaurant here for breakfast lunch and dinner. read more

It was dumb luck that we found this place! The tent cabin was quite cute. It's heated and equipped with fan for summer time too. There is also a cute gas fireplace outside. When we checked in, we were greeted with a gift bag with s'mores kit and trout food. The trouts in their trout project are quite active (watch out for splash of water when you feed them!). Only complaints 1) shower water is quite cold when you take a shower later in the evening 2) a bit noisy as the cabins are close to the road. read more

ALMOST PERFECT, except for a couple issues. First the ponytailed gentleman in the office/restaurant, I believe his name is Agusta, needs a course in customer service. We stayed a week in cabin 9. We were told we would have no daily maid service, which was fine. So, anything we needed resupplied, such as TP, coffee and ice, just come to the office and ask. Fortunately, my girl and I only ran into Agusta one time each. He was rude and condescending, acting as though it was beneath him to have to deal with us. He complied both times but very rude. Second, some traffic noise as they're right on 395. No big deal. Third, the "on demand" hot water heater was a daily challenge to deal with. I've read other comments about the expensive pizza. 36 bucks for a medium pizza we took back to our cabin the first day. WTF!!! 36 bucks!! Then we ate it!! WTF!!! It was AMAZING and worth every penny. Our stay was AWESOME, except for the as fore mentioned minor issues. read more

What a charming place, we will definitely be back. We came from Bishop to get away for a few days and this was a great choice. Their restaurant is fantastic, the location is quaint and serene, and they were doing all they could to be safe with COVID-19 concerns still an issue in our counties. Yes, you are close to the highway so bring earplugs if you think the noise will bother you. I sleep lightly and didn't really notice. While we were eating on the patio both days I saw a couple of Karens whining to the staff, who were almost supernaturally patient and accommodating even though the complaints were ridiculous. I remember working in the service industry at that age, and let's just say I would not have taken the high road in these instances... To top it off, I forgot my nook on one of the beds, and they generously offered to go all the way to the Bridgeport post office to mail it back to me. What a gem in Mono County! PS - visit Bodie ghost town if you have time, you won't regret it. read more

The covered wagon was very cozy and super cute. It was equipped with everything we needed for a comfy stay. It was right on the creek, which made it super peaceful for sleeping. The fire pit is propane, so no wood is needed. Each site has a picnic table as well... They supply you with a free s'mores kit and fish food, so you can feed the trout in the hatchery. The restrooms are clean and there are hot showers available. The grounds as adorable, complete with cornhole, a giant Jenga set and a giant connect four game. There are trails next to the creek to hike as well. There are BBQ's there for use as well, which we will use next time since the restaurant is EXPENSIVE and OVERRATED. We will be back to stay again, though. It's a great place and very cute, in every way. We will bring our own food to grill next time around. read more

Supper happy with our stay! Our group of 4 stayed in the Tent Cabins and it was perfect for us. Our tent cabin had a queen bed, 2 twin size beds, a table with 2 chair, a heater and a fan. The fan was fantastic! It kept us cool throughout the night. The place was also so clean and it even smell clean. Which was awesome! However, I would highly recommend doing a bug inspection. There was a HUGE spider next to my pillow. The beauty of camping I mean glamping am I right? Other positives are: shower and bathroom, electric fire pit and grill. Overall an awesome place! Ps. This was a great place to stay if you're planning on visiting Yosemite National Park. A drive here from Reno, NV was not a bad one at all and the cost didn't hurt the wallet either. read more

For what it is, it's a really unique experience. We wish we had stayed in a cabin or covered wagon by the creek. I recommend those way over the $66 a night tent cabins as those are too close to the highway and it's very busy with trucks all night long. Food was good and very friendly service. Cute seating area and comforting country setting. They have a nice property with fire pits and a wooden swing. The creek is so pretty and you can fish if you want. If you're going to Bodie, Lake Mono, or traveling from Yosemite to Lake Tahoe it's a perfect hidden spot. I would not suggest using this property to enter and exit Yosemite over multiple days, as the Tioga pass is very steep and windy. They had a creepy old west display that scared my kids but honestly in a corporate world this place is so unique and memorable. I loved that! read more

Wonderful establishment! My husband and I stayed here last weekend and are so impressed by the cleanliness and updated cabins. As an example; I am very particular when it comes to using bed sheets. I will always take my own blanket and pillow on trips just in case the ones provided are not up to par. When I checked the sheets, i was glad to see how clean and new they were- i jumped right in They have grills and seating all around the grounds. There's a nice lil hammock, some bonfire areas and a fish cleaning station (which could be a bit bigger). Happy at the front desk was juggling a lot, with the restaurant, checking people in, and being a host... but even then he maintained his friendly demeanor. The pizza at the restaurant is delicious. We were staying a night in Bridgeport and thought about getting a more standard hotel/motel, but this place had so much more character that we had to go with it. Upon check-in I was given a goodie bag containing some coffee, fish food, and a kit to make two S'mores. We booked a cabin (#13) that was referred to as either "Family Room with Garden View" or "Family Queen Room", depending on the email. It came with a queen bed in the main room and a twin bunk bed in a smaller adjoining room. The smaller room had a pocket door, and a narrow window at each bed frame, which I thought was nice. Our two older kids took the bunk beds, while our youngest slept with us. It was a bit cozy in the queen bed but we managed just fine. We had a private bathroom, fridge, and microwave. Outside we had a front porch, a picnic table where we ate dinner, and a fire ring where we toasted the marshmallows for the S'mores (I went back for another S'mores kit; they sell them in the store). As you might expect, there's a creek on the property, and some trails you can explore. My wife and son played with one of the two available cornhole boards; there's also a giant Four in a Row game board. It got down to 32 degrees the night we stayed, but two intrepid souls booked the unheated covered wagon across from us. More power to them. Everyone we dealt with was very friendly -- including Jackie the orange cat, who came around at dinnertime, sat in my wife's lap later on, and stayed until we went in for the night. read more

My boyfriend and I spent 4 nights here to celebrate our 1 year anniversary and will definitely come back! We were visiting the ghost town of Bodie and liked the look of this hotel. The room was super cute and clean. There was no in room coffee maker due to the pandemic but they gave us free coffee in the restaurant which worked for us. The day before we left it snowed which just added the the beauty of the property and surrounding area. The food at the restaurant was very good and the staff was nice and welcoming. I made the dumb mistake of leaving my purse behind and they quickly secured it and made arrangements to mail it to me the next day. I would highly recommend this place. read more

I returned again to give this motel another shot. It was worse! The carpets were filthy and I slept in my clothes on top of the bedspread since it felt so dirty. Rustic does not mean Dirty. It smelled. I checked out and moved to the Walker River Lodge - Much much better! Too bad, your place has so much potential. It would be So easy to run a carpet cleaner through the rooms and replace those flat stinky pillows once a year. Great water pressure in bathroom is why you get a one star. The bathroom was cleaner than the room. Walls paper thin, you can hear people snoring next door. read more

Wow has this placed gone down hill, I stayed there about a year age it was superb, this time the cabin's carpet was disgusting, the toilet wasn't clean and the sink didn't drain, no desk only a very dirty sofa. I ordered a pizza the cheese was about a quarter inch plus thick I ate two pieces made me nauseous. Needless to say I'll think twice before I book at the Settlement again. read more

I will start by saying I've stayed here off and on for 5 years with no real problems. Love the location. But we showed up to stay in hotel room #3 and oh my goshhh it smelled so horrible in the room... like something was rotten or mold (the people in the next room were asked and also said their room was "musty/moldy smelling"). Maybe the carpet needs replacing? Idk. But when we contacted the office and let them know that there was a horrible smell we were met with a response saying "what do you want me to do about it?" Very poor customer service. Sad to have had this experience. We left and didn't even stay the night. Thankfully there was a room open down the road. read more

My fiancé and I had a wonderful vacation here for almost a week. We stayed in a cabin and found it to be charming: clean, comfortable, rustic style, and with a river, grill and chairs (which we didn't use because it had snowed). The cabin had a kitchenette and couch in one room, then a bedroom and bathroom. We had a thermostat for the cabin and it was very comfortable and warm on cold nights. We loved that nature was right at our backyard, a Rocky Mountain steam was right outside. The restaurant was wonderful and the staff could not be nicer. We went there more times that week that I'd like to admit because there weren't other options for miles - and the food was great so why not! The staff took all the proper Covid precautions which is very much appreciated. The location is awesome! It's convenient to: 1. Bodie state park (gold rush ghost town) 2. Panum Crater (world class hiking with spectacular views of the sierras all around you) 3. Mono Lake 4. Yosemite 5. Hot springs (I recommend travertine) 6. This place is so fun! The cabins are very comfortable and cute. The cabins have a propane fire pit which was awesome because then you don't smell like campfire or have to purchase wood. The creek running by the cabins is so relaxing and surreal. As far as the restaurant goes it's great as well. I had a steak and it came out just as I ordered it. Everyone working was so friendly and accommodating. We only stayed one night which wasn't our plan but due to roads being closed we lost a day/night due to this. Inside Tv with all the channels, free wifi too. All at a great price. Really couldnt ask for more, maybe 1 thing and that is a bath tub, only shower in mine.
