This is the absolute best and all inclusive place to go for women's care. I first came here couple of months ago for a bone density test, and came back today for my mammogram and yearly checkup. The building is clean and bright, with ample parking. The staff who I've encountered have been pleasant and super helpful. They even reached out to my old doctor and hospital in Washington state to get all of my records as this facility does not use epic (mychart). I saw Dr. Cassidy today and she was absolutely fantastic. She took the time to get to know me and listened to any and all concerns I had. She has a great bedside manner and thoroughly explained what she was doing. While no one really likes the annual exam process, she made me feel very comfortable. If I could give them 0 stars I would. It's so unfortunate. Been going here for 20+ years. I truly hate their business model. They do not care about your well-being. You can barely get an appointment. I am suppose to have surgery but they stopped trying to schedule me because I do not want to do the doctors game plan which was dropped on me in 10 min and I was not able to process. I tried explaining I didn't want to do the plan they had me which requires birth control and there was no way to talk to the doctor. For context the surgery is minor and they wanted to do it ASAP in May but wouldn't let me talk to the doctor until July. Also the doctor changed the plans on me too saying "A" to me and the "B" to the nurses. So no one was on the same page. After a few days of back and forth, they stopped calling me back. read more

I would look elsewhere for care. I left several messages for their office manager and never received a call back regarding charges from my last visit. I just got a lovely collections notice in the mail today. These are charges for their nurse and dr asking me if any of the problems in my previous appointment were any better. I answered their questions and they charged me for a "sick visit". I have never had any of their providers do that. On top of that they switched my provider without notifying me. Mine evidently left the practice but a heads up would have been nice so that I could pick who I wanted to see. I finally get to my appointment after she rescheduled me twice with this new person and she is clearly SICK with no mask on. It was a horribly awkward appointment on top of that. I also contracted MRSA from there in 2024 and my daughter also got it when I went for my mammogram in 2025. I should have stopped going after the first issue. I have other issues but will not leave them in my review. I will never be back and will never recommend them to anyone. read more

I had an appointment 2/2025 with Jacqueline Platamone, DO for my new patient annual. I expressed over the phone my concerns regarding an IUD removal and the woman on the phone confirmed while they cannot do that the same day, Dr Platamone can complete my exam and schedule accordingly. Both Dr Platamone and the nurse had horrible bedside manner. After they both dismissed my request to have my IUD removed, I explained WHY I wanted it removed and my recent changes possibly needing additional testing to confirm my concerns. Dr was very dismissive and told me to take B12. Did not order any additional relevant testing or even explain further, just told me I am 'too young' to have any issues. Three months later and I have to call to ask why I have received a bill as I checked with my insurance and an annual is covered 100% with the exception of the lab fee for the pap ($25). Dr Platamone charged me for asking questions. During my exam. I was coded and charged an office visit fee to discuss my concerns about my health. This is an additional code and charge on top of the exam fee that is covered under insurance. While this may be normal under regular circumstances, she wasn't a well of knowledge in the first place and was exceptionally curt and dismissive. I didn't leave the appointment any smarter than when I went in. So now I get to pay an additional $80 for her to have wasted my time. BEWARE when scheduling, you may be charged for asking questions. I do not know if this is provider specific or an overall office practice which is why I reviewed using her name. read more

My phone call regarding a miscarriage was at 10 am. I went out to my car on my break to not be interrupted. They called me at 10 am to let me know the doctor is running 15 minutes behind. She didn't get on the call until 30 minutes after the appointment was supposed to start. The reason I did virtual is because my job is hard to take time off currently while we are busy, but instead I stat for a half an hour waiting to be spoken with. Also, the lack of explanation and understanding for women trying to get pregnant but having a hard time, seems nonexistent. read more

I greatly valued the opportunity to meet with lactation consultant Thais Issa-Weedon at Virginia Women's Center. Since I recently had my first baby, I had so much to learn about breastfeeding. Thais provided specific instructions on positioning and gauging whether or not my baby was eating based on watching for her swallows. She also did some weighted feeds so that I could see how much milk my baby was getting. Thais worked with me to create a feeding schedule, which helped my baby gain the appropriate weight. She was patient and understanding about the joys and challenges of being a first-time mom, and she helped me think realistically about how to meet my breastfeeding goals. As a young mom herself, Thais spoke from knowledge and experience. I met with her two times in person and a third time virtually, and I was appreciative of how graciously she answered my many questions!! What a resource for moms! Lisa checked me in today, she was very nice. I have been going to this location since it opened a few years ago and it's always very clean.in and outside. I used to see Christiana Zeuss for at least 8 years before they starting moving all the docs & nurses around. Loved her to death. I was going to switch to a new doctor but found out there is ONE...yes ONE African American doctor who works under Va women's center (highly disappointed in that) but decided to try her today and she was great. I will def be returning to her and her only. I also saw Wendy Dotson during my pregnancy. I thought seeing a midwife would make the experience more natural & give me better options. That wasn't the case when it was time to give birth. They barely had her present. Taking off 2 stars because during my visit I noticed they now charge just to file disability papers. Which is sad and the last thing a pregnant women would want to deal with. read more

after a week of fighting for myself I spoke with a nurse that told me "nobody is going to advocate for you." I've been coming here for 16 years and after a week of nobody helping me and speaking to the manager and still not getting help I will no longer be coming here. They didn't care about my health or wellbeing and were completely fine with me spending a weekend in pain. My wife went to Virginia Women Center in Short Pump for a preventative mammogram which is covered at 100% under our insurance but we ended up getting a bill for $350 from VWC plus $217 from Radiologic Associates of Fredericksburg because they do the reading of the image instead of taking care of it in house. What's upsetting and very misleading is that the doctor coded as diagnostic instead of preventative because my wife had mentioned of previous discomfort which wasn't present at the time and no longer exists due to muscle related as she was being questioned her reason for the visit. We were simply being proactive about getting preventative mammogram not diagnostic reasons. We were blindsided with the fees, I wish they could have told us or explained to us about the fees. Talk about hidden fees and ethics, they need to be held accountable and disclose any potential fees for services provided just like any other industries. It's sad and disappointing to see how hospitals and medical professionals behaving this way when they are deem to have higher standards. read more

I have been a patient here for a long time. Appointments are so inconsistent. I am pregnant and made a series of appointments, not one of them has been kept. I am called days before the appointment to move it, even though it has been on the schedule for weeks. The most recent one had to be moved due to my age. Did they not know my age when they made the appointment? I wish I could switch practices but that is hard mid-pregnancy. read more

Two years ago, I went in for a follow up mammo, ultrasound and biopsy. The person was an hour late then tried to start some kind of distraction conversation. I politely advised her that I wished to not engage, afterall this was not a social occasion. We're talking the possibility of cancer here. She then proceeded to get loud at which point I started recording. That pushed her over the edge. She started carrying on that "This was bad energy" then walked out! I was laying there with both breasts EXPOSED and absolutely TRAUMATIZED. I was so traumatized, I never followed up. Two years later, I finally followed up at another facility after noticing pain in my arm pit. Guess what? I NOW HAVE BREAST CANCER and start chemo next week. Stay away from this place! Todays visit with Dr. Schoeffler was great. He was super attentive and really tried to address my concerns. However, I would not recommend Dr. Hutchinson at the Mechanicsville location. He literally took 5 mins to tell me my IUD was in the proper place but offer ZERO further solutions to the problem I came in about. Drs. I had been going to this practice for 2 years - they tried to cancel my hysterectomy the day before until I broke down in tears and then they agreed to keep it as-is, also when my pharmacy contacted them to approve my prescription (that I've been on for 20 years), several times they DECLINED it because they wanted me to make an appointment first (to get more $$ I assume, not because I was due to have an exam) - but they never contacted me to say they declined it - try not taking hormones that you've been on for 20 years, not fun - also this last time went in to get a mammogram and they refused me because in my paperwork I put that I had a tiny bump in a breast and they said I'd have to get a DIFFERENT mammogram for that AND I had to have a doctor's exam to have them either say I had a lump or not (this was all while I was already in the gown). Called to complain so many times, I felt like a Karen until I realized I just want quality care without begging for it. So I left. read more

Nice friendly staff here. I used to go to their St. Mary's location until I discovered their John Rolfe location which was closer to home. The John Rolfe location moved to the Grahams Meadow Road location. I've been going to the practice over 10 years. I was originally seeing Dr. Zelder who has now retired. He had a great beside manner. I see Dr. Clipp who has a great beside manner and explains things in layman's terms for those who don't understand medical terms. I removed 3 stars because if you come in person to schedule an appointment, you're made to sign in and wait in line like those who are here for an appointment. This used to not be the case at their previous locations. You can submit online to schedule an appointment but it takes several days for a response. The hold time on the phone is long and coming in person is much easier than waiting on hold. I lost quite a bit of time on my lunch break by coming in person. I recommend waiting on hold because it took about the same amount of time today. If this is your new policy, please send a notice out via snail mail or email. You can also post a notice in the office with the effective date of the change. read more

I've been going to VWC for years, but so happy to have the new Short Pump location! The facility is clean, convenient, and the parking lot is dedicated to VWC (my personal gripe of other locations when having to look for parking among many offices). The staff here are all great. The front desk staff are friendly and efficient. I'm talking check-in and barely get to a seat to sit down and they are calling your name up to registration. The nurses, Kelly Yeong and Kat Douglas are excellent!! I've always been able to get an appointment pretty easy, even same or next day. What i like best about Nurse Yeong in particular is that she is so down to earth and chats with you like you would with a friend over lunch. I highly recommend VWC and this location! read more

I made an 11:45 appointment with this office months ago to be seen for a well woman's exam. Day of, I had to leave work late and was going to be three minutes late to my appointment so I called to communicate that with the office and ensure I could still come in for my appointment. The receptionist assured me that I was fine to come in since their policy is 15 minutes or more for cancellations. Upon check in, at 11:50, I was told by a different receptionist that the doctor would not be seeing me since I was late for my appointment. I told the receptionist that I had called to let them know I was running late, and they said I did not communicate that I would be "that late". I was baffled that I was being refused care because of being 5 minutes late, after calling in advance, with a 15 minute late policy in place. I left the office holding back tears and will not be making another appointment. read more

I'm giving Virginia Women's Center 3 stars out of the gate. I think if you are a seemingly healthy, youngish woman who just needs routine care and doesn't need a lot of follow-up, this may be a great practice for you. The two locations I have visited are the Short Pump and West Broad locations. Both have done a seemingly good job of keeping areas clean during Covid and I truly do appreciate it. For the most part if you need an appointment within a day or two, Virginia Women's Center can find someone for you to see. The wait times can be long on the phone so be prepared to wait and try to do so at an off peak time. Service is hit or miss - when waiting for faxed order to get to VWC, VWC will refuse to schedule you even if this is a normal course of business appointment like an ultrasound, then tell you someone will call you back same day. The nurses may or may not you call back, more than likely not. Recently I went in for an ultrasound for a specific piece of information requested from my endocrinologist with STAT marked all over it. There is no STAT in this office. I spent hours on the phone trying to get this information from the nurse and the doctor. I got the run around requesting this info - the nurse said no other doctors were around to review the info, the doctor was in surgery for two days, and so on. When I asked for a physical copy of the ultrasound that I would come get, the answer was no and that they could only mail the ultrasound to my doctor. Because of the lack of responsiveness regarding this information (which by the way I never got) the ultrasound became absolutely worthless study that I ended up paying for. Ironically, VWC will ask for payment upfront but can't manage to get you results for urgent matters (2 to 5 days is not STAT, sorry) We had to assume the worst case scenario which involved us spending a couple hundred dollars and some painful injections. We will not be using this doctor moving forward for any non-standard medical care. If I could suggest anything, I would email through the portal with orders for any non-urgent appointments and be extremely clear in your request. Take notes if you need real time or STAT information. read more

Awesome facility! Its easy to get to and easy parking. Rachael at the front desk was soooo sweet and personable! She didn't just take my information like a robot, she was joking with me and treating me as if we have known each other for a while. Elizabeth Compton has been my NP for a few years now and she has a great way of making me feel like she actually remembers me even though I only see her once a year. She is so caring, non-judgemental, and she has does everything she can to help me with my birth control options. (My insurance company sucks with birth control coverage). My only complaint is that they are always running like 30 minutes behind for my appointment. I feel like it's typical for most medical appointments so I didn't take a star away but I hope they can improve this somehow. read more

I have been going to VWC for several years. I was REALLY late in getting a mammogram and was surprised when I called to make an appointment that I was able to get one the next day. The check in nurse was prompt and courteous. The tech that did my mammogram was kind, gentle and understood my nervousness. I experienced no wait time when I called the office to make my appointment. I was in and out with my procedure completed in less than 30 minutes, which included filling out paperwork. Previously when I had appointments with my Ob gyn I have had to sit in the office and wait quite some time. read more

But, I wouldnt recommend going to Cathy Conner. I recently returned to VWC after a long hiatus for an annual exam. Easy, right? She refused to give me a pap smear, even after I told her that my former GYN confirmed I should have it. And, after I requested it. Now, I have to pay out of pocket to go back to my old GYN to get it done. I would never recommend her. The other staff was courteous fast and profession and the appt scheduling was easy!!! The receptionists here give you no direction and love to give you dirty looks when you don't read their minds. I've been coming here for years, but am in the transition of looking for a better woman's center. I feel very uncomfortable seeing nurses/MD's at this facility for multiple reasons. They try to perform services without explaining why or what they are doing, they do not look out for you expense wise (choose the costly way of things) and they only have about 10 min to answer your questions before they allow you to feel the pressure of another appointment behind you. I was billed for (expensive) services I did not give permission to be done because of someone's lack of communication. Then proceeded to call billing/deal with management explaining the lack of consent and the end result was me basically being called a liar. And the nurse I had been seeing for years whom this problem occurred with never bothered to personally apologize or even personally return calls. Just shows that this practice does not care about you, just your money. I wouldn't recommend this location! read more

I've sat on this review for months now but feel it's necessary to share my experience so that others can make a well informed decision when it comes to choosing a doctor from this practice. I was a first time pregnant mom and had hand picked Doctor Megan Cassidy after meeting with several other doctors at the practice. My husband and I developed, what we had believed to be, a very strong relationship with her over the course of my pregnancy which was textbook outside of a one month early delivery. We obviously did not expect Dr. Cassidy to be there for the delivery but we never even heard from her again after my 34 week appointment. She never called to follow up once she was notified of the birth at 35 weeks, she never returned our messages from that weekend about some significant bleeding I was experiencing and she never responded to our request to speak with her when we called to see what was going on. It was so odd that we almost thought something may have happened to her for her to have just gone radio silent on us the way that she did. It was a very unfortunate way to end such a pleasant experience and blessing of being pregnant for the very first time. read more

Throughout my lifetime, I have been to many gynos in many states but have not encountered one as intelligently efficient and attentive as Dr. Peter Wilbanks. He commands the room in a lighthearted way, making it apparent he knows of what he speaks but is not the least bit condescending. He not only pays close attention to what is said, but quickly diagnoses the problem and explains it in laymen's terms, quickly resulting in shared confidence. His follow-up plan is in place and acted upon immediately. Plus he's just plain likeable. You can't beat that!! read more

I give vwc a rate 2 which still isn't what I really should give them. I started going to VWC about a year or so ago because I wanted to find a new doctor due to my primary care doctor retiring. I haven't had a welcoming doctor since I started coming there. I switched doctors millions of times and different locations and I'm not sure if it's because I'm black or what. But I'm not rude at all, I just want someone consistent and someone I can feel comfortable around. I feel more comfortable with the medical assistance then I do the actual doctor. I'm just over trying to find a primary doctor here. But the front desk associates at the graham location is always nice and the St. John one well. Thanks read more

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Kelly Yeong is all that and a bag of chips! I freaking love my gynecologist. How many people can say that? She's very thorough, gentle, witty, hilarious, real, down to Earth, and knowledgeable. Also, she has given me some of the least squirm inducing pap smears I've ever experienced. That alone should tell you something! Her bedside manner is much better than any other doctor that I've been to. I really love that she takes time to chat and get to know me, and is never rushed. It's making me rethink my general practitioner because now I need all my doctors to be on the same level. I'm so glad I discovered her before starting my journey to have children because she's the only one I would want to care for me during that special time in my life. Besides her being awesome, the new facility is the bee's knees. I was called in right at my appointment time and didn't wait long to see the doctor or nurse. I was out in much less than an hour. Everything is shiny and new. Even though it takes a bit longer to drive out there from where I currently live, I loved it. read more

I can't say enough great things about the check in staff, nurses, and even the lab tech at the Kilmarnock location. I hate giving bad reviews, but I can promise I'll never go back to Virginia Womens Center again after my visit yesterday. The midwife I saw for my annual and IUD replacement was so indecisive, it was impossible to trust her judgement. I literally went for IUD replacement and got annual out of the way while I was there and she was so uncertain about putting it in- I said leave my old one in. I had a question about a medication that I was interested in trying and she said she'd have to research if it was safe and maybe she could prescribe. What did she go to school for? Not to mention when I was getting lab work - she was talking about Me to another coworker like it was normal to do in that office. I've been to a lot of doctors at another Facility when I was pregnant with my son, and I've never been so uncomfortable. I'll be switching back to my old provider, and making the drive. You don't want Amy Hall taking care of your gynecology needs... she's too wishy washy! read more

Elizabeth Compton is the BEST. I had been seeing her since high school and she always made me feel comfortable, safe, and provided a pleasant environment. I had to go somewhere else because I was in between jobs with no insurance and I ended up having a terrible experience somewhere else. I came back to Elizabeth for my next one and she made things so easy for me. I told her I was scared and had a lot of anxiety because of my prior experience somewhere else. I ended up actually passing out/having a panic attack in her office after the exam and she called my mom to come and meet me to drive me home, fanned me while I was actively in my panic attack, brought me water, & even let us use the side door to exit so I wouldn't have to face everyone in the waiting room. Just the fact that she went out of her way to stay with me and make sure I was okay meant a lot. And I will NEVER go anywhere else again. read more

On May 13 I had an appt with Dr Kriess, my last pap smear was March 2018, I came in with a soreness in my ovarian area. While I was there I explained this to her as well as explaining I did not have insurance. I was told when I made the appointment $150 with a discount. I was paying cash. I do not have medical insurance. I asked her for a pap smear while I was there. She agreed. The exam went normal and Dr kriess scheduled me for an ultrasound as a precaution. A week went by and no one from her office called me with my pap resolves. So I followed up with her office to discover she never gave me a pap . How can this be , ? I know Dr Kriess examined me! I felt it. Her office charged me $300 this included the discount. This is total deception of service and did absolutely nothing. Now I got to go back to get a Pap. I'll go to my PCP for $75 plus lab charges. All she did was rob me. I will never go back to Dr Kriess, again read more
