The staff is full of unprepared idiots. They never get anything right, they never have their paperwork together, and they try to blame the patients for their own negligence. It's a dingy office, too. You're sitting there trying to give a sample, and then the nurses out there laughing and carrying on. You're already in an uncomfortable position, and then you hear people laughing and making a lot of noise right outside the door. Bad place! Bad people! Bad business! read more

First of all, besides the actual quality of care as soon as you sign on with them, you will get so much homework to do. Their portal is confusing and they assign much too much work. They will not check up on you to remind you about anything which is fine and itself but also they do not answer the phone at all. Also everybody that I have interacted with is very rude. read more

This company is all about taking your money. They do not actually care about the patients or their needs. Which is why we sought fertility treatment else where. Not I my is this a cash cow facility looking to take as much money as possible, depending on who your doctor is your likely left with half-ass customer service and not all the information you need. Also, not miss a $50 payment or they will send your account to collections lol. I'm so glad we figured out who shady grove was as the heart of it they want to see as many patients as possible and if you don't like the doctor you originally book with you not only have to transfer your care to another doctor but your considered a new patient and are charged as such, again they are trying to take as much money as possible. read more

I gave a 2-star rating solely because of my doctor and the nursing staff, who were great. However, the billing and claims department is absolutely terrible and seems completely incompetent. Despite having three egg retrievals, they continue to mishandle my billing, making the process unnecessarily difficult each time. This time, I was told that because I'm not a "premier patient," they can't submit my bill where it needs to go which is Win and not Cigna. What exactly is a premier patient? I pay just like everyone else, so why am I not considered one? It's concerning that patients are being labeled, implying that some receive better service than others. To make matters worse, I've tried multiple times to speak with someone in claims or my assigned billing representative, yet I can never get anyone on the phone. The IVF process is already stressful, and dealing with this kind of frustration on top of it is unacceptable. read more

The administration (billing department, front desk, financial counseling, etc) here is awful. The facility is trying to charge us for a procedure that they never did and sperm that they are no longer storing. Every time we call we get directed around to six different people and then someone just says "well I'll have to send someone else an email about that and get back to you" and no one ever does. They did one procedure for us (and then charged us 5x what our financial counselor told us it would be) but I would not have them do any more, ever again. Based on how horrendous their administration is, I would have no confidence that they are actually keeping track of eggs & embryos and implanting the right ones. read more

Only reason I gave any stars is for the doctors and nursing staff. They are absolutely amazing. Their billing department however is least to be desired. If you're disabled or a disabled veteran such as myself, you can't be seen because they won't do the paperwork for Medicare. And even those who doesn't have Medicare has had issues with billing. Every other facility will bill Medicare knowing that they will reject it since they don't cover anything IVF related and send it to the secondary insurance to cover some or all of the remaining balance. This facility refuses to do so meaning that disabled individuals such as myself who has a desire to have children will be turned away be told to go elsewhere. And there's not many choices to choose from in this local area. I have been going to this clinic for months and got to know all the staff on a first name basis before learning that I had almost a 10k bill and they suddenly refuse to see me because they refuse to do the paperwork necessary to see me and others like me. This is incredibly disheartening when there's other clinics such as VCU who is willing to see disabled individuals. But VCU is where I'm heading. I strongly suggest joining a FB IVF group to see what folks are saying about their billing department before working with them. There's way too many who have billing issues. read more

I will do my best to put this horrid experience into words. My wife and I became patients of Virginia Fertility Associates back in 2017. Our primary physician was Dr. Tidey. We met with him to discuss our options, and after undergoing a few tests in the following months to rule out any biological issues, decided that IUI was the best course of action. Before I continue, an important sidebar: I was told my test results would take approximately one week to come back. After two weeks went by with no word, I called VFA several times before finally reaching someone who noted that my results had come back "a week or so ago." Not only had they not bothered to call me, but when I called them, I was given my results in the form of percentages/levels with no explanation about what those figures meant - and whether or not they were normal or abnormal. The person on the phone didn't even know what the figures meant, so I asked them to have the doctor call me to explain. When Dr. Tidey called me, he literally (and I mean literally) said nothing. He was silent on the other end of the phone. He knew why I had asked for him to call me, but still said nothing until I prodded him to elaborate on my test results, at which point he offered little more than the confusing percentages I was originally given. That should have been our first red flag. Our first IUI was unsuccessful. However, that was the least upsetting aspect of our experience. Before, during, and after the procedure, we were constantly in the dark about how to proceed. Dr. Tidey gave us no direction whatsoever, save for one- and two-word answers to our questions, as if he expected us to already know the entire IUI process (including appointment dates/times). We had to call the front desk endlessly for information but could never get anyone on the phone. At one point, VFA failed to call an ovulation trigger prescription (which was VITAL to the IUI) into their pharmacy in New Jersey; in order for us to receive it in time, we had to pay $40 for overnight delivery. The front desk staff later shrugged us off when we told them about this. The day of the actual IUI should have been routine; instead, Dr. Tidey fumbled around and could not seem to figure out how to position the syringe correctly. At one point, he pulled it out with my wife's blood on it. After it was evident that my wife was not pregnant, we decided to try another IUI with VFA. This time, we were handled by Dr. Shah, who was admittedly much better than Dr. Tidey and took his time explaining everything to us. Though my wife did become pregnant with this IUI, we unfortunately miscarried. Fast forward to the final bill. VFA sent us the total invoice and I called them to arrange a payment plan (which, they previously explained during one of our office visits, was a viable and standard option). But again, I could never get anyone to answer the phone. Still, they continued to mail the bill to us, month after month. And continually, I tried to call to arrange monthly payments to no avail. I left messages with their billing department that went unreturned. Then, all of a sudden, we received a letter in the mail that we were being TAKEN TO COURT for the unpaid balance - and that an additional $700 for attorney fees plus a penalty percentage was being tacked on - which raised our bill $1,000 higher than what we owed. I called the number on the letter and was told nothing could be done, and that it was out of VFA's hands now that an attorney was handling it, DESPITE the fact that VFA ADMITTED they had a record of me calling and leaving messages months earlier (which were not returned) to make payments. If they'd at least had the decency to put the account into collections before taking us to court, I could have settled the matter - and would have been happy to do so with someone who actually answers the phone. Instead, they went from 0 to 100. At no point did Virginia Fertility Associates ever treat us like a priority or with any level of respect. It was a mentally and physically exhausting experience that has somehow managed to get worse after we decided to stop dealing with their blinding incompetence. I would recommend adoption any day over putting yourself through their circus of an operation. read more

My husband and I scheduled a consultation appointment to discuss options based on familiar background. Dr. Johnson explained how embryo genetic testing worked and answered a few of our questions. We felt the staff were incredibly disorganized and the MD cold and made both of us very uncomfortable. We had the opposite experience at VCU and this chose to move forward with a different practice. About a month after our visit we received a $300 bill for a level 4 office visit. A level 4 visits are used for very sick and complex patients. My husband and I were referred to Dr. Shah when we began trying to conceive. I will always appreciate the time and honest conversation he had with us at our first consultation. He was optimistic while being honest with the options and treatment plan he thought would be effective. We felt he was very thorough in investigating the root of our struggles and we were impressed by the number of tests and ultrasounds he was willing give us in determining what would work. I always felt that my health was a main priority to him through the process. I also saw Dr. Tidey for one my appointments. He was extremely patient with all of the questions my husband and I had! The appointment didn't feel rushed even though I know there were many others that also needed his time and attention. After one visit, while feeling very overwhelmed and emotional about the process, the nurses and office workers found me in the hall crying after their shift. They were amazing and gave my husband their direct line to call for any questions or concerns we may have, in case the doctors were busy. They were so kind, empathetic, and patient. I am happy to say my husband and I got pregnant in no time at all, with twins!!! We will always appreciate the roll the that this office had in making that possible. read more

Dr. Tidey and his staff are incredible! I found Dr. Tidey online and decided to meet for a consultation based on his background and education. During my first visit I felt very comfortable with him. He explained how the process worked and what to expect in detail. He left no unanswered questions. Once we decide to proceed the process was very smooth and went quickly thanks to his expertise and his staff's helpful support. If I had any questions I always felt that I could call Valerie or any of the staff. They were always available for my questions or just to hold my hand through the process. No question was too dumb to ask. And believe me, I am sure I asked all that one could ask. The team worked so well together and before I knew it I was pregnant. We owe our amazing and healthy baby boy to Dr. Tidey and his staff. I urge you to call them and speak to them about any fertility process. Dr. Shah is awesome! He is friendly, caring, & very aggressive in working towards helping you conceive. He is respectful of your wishes but also very up front & honest about what it will take. We spent a year with him & I am so sad to leave his office, although we are leaving because we are one of his success stories!
