Peloton - I guess these things are going to take a long time to get repair parts! Nice work Peloton. 05/30/23

Since my friend Xavier reviewed Peloton, I thought it was time for me to do so as well! I love my…read morePeloton, which is odd, since I loathe exercise in all its tourtureish forms. But in Peloton, I have found something that works for me: 1) The privacy of my own home keeps me from feeling embarrassed about my fitness level or ability to keep up. 2) The convenience of the bike being in my own home eliminates my favorite, lifelong excuse for not working out, the convenience factor. 3) The leaderboard gives me an element of competition without the judgy onlookers I always felt I was subject to (real or perceived) at cycle gyms or spin classes. 4) Once I'm on the bike, I have no intention of not finishing, and while I'm there, I might as well add 10 minute arms class and a good stretch. 5) Instructors like Tunde really make the bike for me. I literally miss her voice in my head if I go to long between rides. I need her encouraging "C'mons" to keep me going. I'm taking off one star for something that makes me insane about Peloton. The freaking branding could not be worse. Do you know who Peloton appeals to the very most? The XL crew. The crew that has never felt comfortable going to the gym or changing in a locker room. But will you ever see a single person who is bigger than an XS in their advertisements? Never. They've gotten so much shit for their goofy ass ads set in glass box houses overlooking rainforests and high rise apartments with the Peloton looking out over sweeping views of the city. The pandemic would have been the perfect time to showcase all the lo-fi, no-frills, no nonsense people and places of Peloton. But instead, we just keep getting the glistening fitness models who have never gone a day without their green juice. Why not show the world that Peloton is for everyone? They'd probably change a lot more lives.

Buyer beware. My…read moreexperience with Peloton's customer service has been extremely disappointing. My husband and I have now had two scheduled treadmill repair appointments that Peloton failed to complete. For our most recent appointment, we rearranged our Saturday plans to accommodate an 8:00-10:00 a.m. service window. After confirming with customer service the day before that a technician would be arriving, we received a late-night text indicating there might be an issue. Despite multiple messages requesting updates, we were ultimately informed hours after our appointment window had passed that the technician had no transportation and would not be coming. This is now the second missed repair appointment, and weeks later our treadmill issue remains unresolved. The lack of communication, accountability, and respect for customers' time has been unacceptable. I purchased a Peloton expecting premium equipment backed by premium service. Unfortunately, that has not been my experience. Based on the customer service I've received, I would strongly encourage anyone considering a Peloton purchase to carefully research the company's service and repair support before making a significant investment. Peloton, it's time to do better.

With the first class ending around 10:15am, by the time you head out it's almost lunch time. I think the earliest weekday class may be 7am, which can be a challenge if you have to be at work early. Check in is easy and staff are friendly. It gets very crowded fast trying to find a spot to sit and change shoes or get to a locker. Even worse when the next class shows up and you are trying to exit the studio and change shoes. There two single restrooms and a tight fit by the mirror once you step outside of a restroom. They offer hair ties, spray deodorant, Malin & Goetz lotion, ear plugs... fairly standard. There are no showers, but they noted I could shower downstairs at Pure Barre because they share. An employee helped set up my bike before class started. The studio felt like most crowded cycle studios in NYC. The air circulation wasn't the best and I noticed they kept opening the door every so often. A little distracting when the studio is dark but you periodically get the bright lights from the doors opening. Music wasn't really my favorite. Overall friendly staff, but I didn't leave feeling like I had an intense workout. This location was a bit out of the way for me and felt very cramped from seating to restrooms. Perhaps the other studio locations are more spacious?

Being outside in the fresh air not only feels amazing but offers spectacular views of NYC. The staff is super engaging, and the instructors go above and beyond to make sure you feel welcomed. In addition the community couldn't be nicer. Best part? The studio has locker rooms and showers so you can get ready for your day after class.

There is such a sense of community and consistency in the work that they do. Bouncing back from a wild time during the pandemic when my legs weren't working all that well, and I wasn't walking on my own, I was lucky enough to stumble onto Complete Body. It was here that I learned to swim and built back my strength and mobility. It was finally though in Natalie's class where I was able to move my legs quickly and freely again. She is a real force. And brings her all to everything she does. She also has amazing playlists. I feel so excited to ride now..even In the cold, even in the rain, even if I'm tired. I'm so lucky to have found a place like this and an instructor like her. Her whole team really. Everyone should be so lucky to stumble onto such a comeback:)

BUT I'M SO GLAD I DID- no one gives a DAMN about what you look/how you're performing, and you're all just biking, doing crunches, using the dumbbells to the beat and having a BLAST. I admit, I did look around a lot while I was in the class and I was in sheer awe of how hard people were going and inspired to try my best too. The staff at E63 were super friendly- they helped me get set up and explained the locker situation (which was CHAOTIC, because the way the studio is shaped, which is why I'm knocking off a star- it was stressful). If the staff could encourage the people to go right into the spin studio room after getting changed, it would be less crowded and hectic? My class was with Bryan who had tremendously great energy and a sense of humor- I admit, his music choices weren't really my thing (late 90s~2000s ish pop/rock that I've somehow never heard of? idk) but I appreciated his clear instructions and constant cheerleading- it really kept me motivated and I had a lot of fun. Can't wait to come back!

I booked Emily's class based on the Yelp reviews, but ended up with Rachel since Emily is having her baby this week. Thanks Emily! Both classes were probably the least crowded classes I've ever been to at Soul (maybe because a holiday weekend), but I preferred not being packed in with the latest increase in covid #s.

Their bathrooms are also roomier, where I didn't feel like it was cramped when moving about the area. All the necessary toiletries were stocked and staff came around to clean the bathroom floors as well. There are also ample showers here (~8), so there was little to no wait for an available one. Only downside was that there was no hot water in this location, however it wasn't too much of an inconvenience, as I was sweating a ton after the class to care. They did offer the showers at their nearby 19th st location that had hot water, but at the time, it was inconvenient to trek there in sweaty workout clothes. The staff here are not too bad. They're supportive and more than willing to help adjust your seat as well. I took a class here with Gabby A and her playlist had perfectly paced music that wasn't outrageously fast, so I felt like I got a good workout at my (beginner-spin) level. I love that you're free to go at your own pace, regardless, and the class absolutely feels like a judgement-free zone. Love this SoulCycle area as well and would absolutely book a class at this location again!
