Most people think "vegan?! Ewww" (in fact when we were carrying our leftovers in a pizza box, someone asked where it was from; when she heard vegan she recoiled).... But here's the thing: if you didn't know it was vegan, you probably wouldn't know. The meats are all plant based, most of the cheeses are nut based. The rest is as you'd expect. But I'm telling you the combinations worked and it was delicious and very satisfying. Lots of interesting choices on the menu with some unique combinations and a few familiar ones. Service was okay - but the server did understand various allergies and was well versed in what to do. The place basically looks like a neighborhood pizza joint, but perhaps a little elevated with a pretty open kitchen concept. I wish there were more of these around. Tip: after 9pm on weeknights, they have a special. We were there in a weekend, and missed out. But it's another way to save a few $$ Update: we enjoyed it so much that we went back, but this time to try out their happy hour special: after 9 pm certain pies are offered "Detroit style" - a thicker crust version. It was very much like putting toppings on a foccacia that has some rise to it. You get two slices of that, and at first it didn't seem like it would be enough - but it was! I've never had a vegan pizza as good as this one. They are skilled and know what they're doing. I had never been here before. Amazing ambiance. I adored the fact that they have large booths in the dining room and seats farther out on their patio garden. I chose to get the traditional Margherita pizza, tandoori chicken and the forager. The pizzas were flavorful and delectable. In all honesty, the dairy and cheese on the pizza are not really missed. The pizza's crust was excellent and not at all soggy. The service was good. In addition, I ordered a pint of the outstanding vanilla bean ice cream to go. Possibly the best food of my life. I ate until I was physically ill. It hurt to walk for hours (due to volume consumed on my part only) and it was worth it. The vegan pepperoni was amazing. We are still talking about it. The staff was so patient and kind, the kitchen and bathroom were immaculate. I managed restaurants for years and I have never been so impressed. We will absolutely be coming up from Seattle just for this restaurant again. And don't get me started on the dessert, the hot brownie with ice cream? It's like I'd never had a brownie before. The pizzas did need additional cheese, but the pepperoni and meat substitutes were very good. The wait was a bit long for the food, but I attribute that mainly to the vegan cheese likely being harder to melt. There are so many great dining options in Victoria but this one shined the most to me. Excellent gluten free pizza, super friendly staff & on top of that, all vegan menu. The menu is limited but we didn't mind that because the quality of each dish was so high and everything was super fresh. Our favorites were the Margherita pizza, Moroccan salad and gluten free house made waffle cone with their hazelnut ice cream. My kids were not able to discern that they had an all vegan dinner and dessert and that's typically not possible. My gluten free pizza was the best I've had! You had me at Pizza but stole my heart at EVERYTHING is vegan! So many great foodie finds in Victoria, but none quite as inviting to many and all as this gastropub like pizzeria known as Virtuous Pie. The decor, lighting and even the bathrooms are all tres cool! I was in a group of three (pre-quarantine) and we went a little booze with so many signature drink options (such as the Green Space) and even more heavy with the pizza party so much so that we even got one to go... For "starters" we started off with the Garlic Knots and a Mac & Cheese Skillet... If you have nothing else you MUST try both. The Cashew Mac was the best I've have... I didn't know if I wanted to kiss or slap the chef because of all the joy these dishes brought us. The garlic ranch paired beyond well with those savory knots and enrich the flavors. The Sweet Pepper + Sausage, Street Corn and Ultraviolet were superb! What they do with plant based eats is on another level. The combination of natural herbs, spices, plant based protein, non-dairy cheeses with nuts and/or veggies will leave you mouth agaped for months to come. Our server was incredible too! While I'm plant based, my dinning chums were not, but love food and really appreciate good vegan eats. She answered every question including the types of cheeses and dietary options they offer. The only thing I regret not trying was dessert aka ice cream! We we just too full and on a savory high. They rotate in new signature drinks often, but I was lucky enough to enjoy the caramel colada (4yr rum, pineapple, horchata, lime and of course caramel). When we got our togo pie... The Pesto CBR (also we had some left over Street Corn)... we snacked into the we hours of the night and continued our party back home [Card Against Humanity and more dranks]. I didn't realize this was a chain, but can't imagine a better one than the V.P. of V, BC. If Virtuous Pie was open later we might have spent the remainder of or night and vacay there.... The food is delicious, and everything is vegan! We had a cheese pizza, some olives, and a caesar salad. Somehow, we ended up with an extra appetizer of focaccia bread we didn't order and it was a delicious mistake! The restaurant comped the focaccia bread, which was super nice of them. I'm not usually a fan of foccacia bread but the one here is chewy and delicious, not dry and gross - it had just the right amount of salt and the dipping sauce was oil, balsamic oil, and I think some kind of dollop of garlic sauce. I took off a star because we sat with no cutlery for a while, and had to flag down someone so we could start eating our salads. Otherwise, we'll be back again! read more

Ok food, incredibly slow service. We went on Sunday evening, it was not super busy. She brought us a glass water then disappeared for another 5 before coming with menus. We ordered two pizzas and two cocktails. Also requested some more water. It took another 15 to get water. After 30 minutes we asked when we would get our pizza and drinks. She said, let me check. Came back five minutes later and said your drinks will be ready soon and pizzas are next. WTH! We were about to walk out when drinks arrived so we stayed. Pizza finally arrived 45 minutes after ordering. The pizzas were ok, tasted like Amy's frozen pizzas. Not bad food, just not worth 45 minutes wait to eat. The entire staff there appeared to be working at 1/4 speed. Also looks like they have the oven too low of temp. Those small pies should cook in 3-5 minutes tops. read more

Being from Vancouver, I am a big, big, big fan of Virtuous Pie. So when I was in Victoria for the weekend, I was pleasantly surprised when I stumbled upon a Virtuous Pie here. The hardest part about ordering from Virtuous Pie is deciding on which pizza you want. We opted to split the Stranger Wings (a fan favourite), the Forager, and a kale caesar salad. This was my first time eating the Forager, and I'm so excited that this is now on my radar, because I loved the walnut and arugula pesto with caramelized onions so much. The Stranger Wings has also always been a favourite of mine. The buffalo cauliflower and vegan blue cheese just hits home with me. I'm so happy to know that when I visit the Island, that I can get my Virtuous Pie fix here now. If you're looking for a healthy, vegan, lighter alternative to most pizza places, VP is your spot. I'm Celiac and it's always trying to find safe and truly 'good' food. THIS place is a perfect Model for any restaurant, great 'friendly' service, great 'clean and simple' ambiance, and great food!! We had GF pizza and house lemonade cocktails on the patio. The server made note of the fact that our ordering Gluten Free was by necessity and not just choice to alert the kitchen to prep / cook our food in a safe area. Pizza crust was thin and good a texture, toppings were just enough to allow you to taste each component... and each was worthy! This was delicious! I came in exhausted and cold, got the piping hot artichoke dip and downed 3 glasses of water. The dip was almost like a cream soup, with some type of béchamel sauce, but very light. The bread to dip was heavenly. I could've had 3 times the amount! It was amazing. Tried once more again to see if there were improvements. My colleague and I returned to thebplace to a huge improvement. Service was much quicker than a previous lunch and the menu was also explained in detail by the server. My friend ordered the sweet pepper + sausage while I ordered the small kale ceasar salad and the mac + cheese skillet. It was great to know that the food have no animal products. You can kinda tell that is was not real meat but it helped when the server explained before ordering. The head chef Christina also came by and had a chat about our lunch experience. It was interested to hear her journey and love of the food at this place. Wholly Moe-Lee - if you love pizza, this is a place to try. It doesn't matter that it's vegan, you won't notice the difference. Plant based meat and cheese all around. And variety! We had the gluten free classic and regular Sargent pepperoni pizzas. Thin crust and excellent. We swapped slices with another patron and tried out the gluten free ultraviolet (pesto) version. Wow! Virtuous completely delivers on every front: mouthwatering, semi-healthy food; excellent service (pretty fast); friendly and competent employees; beautiful restaurant (too bad it's not more enjoyed because of Covid). My sister raved about the Vancouver location a year ago but I was hesistant. I am vegan and gluten-free and rarely eat any sort of grain because of gut issues. But finally took the plunge and was surprisingly happy. Even came here dining in (of course social-distanced) for my birthday! Have tried the kale salad, Margherita, Marinara, Italian Eggplant, The Forager, and the cookie sandwich--all so insanely delicious (either gluten-free or GF option). Usually i eat 2 pizzas plus dessert. Despite these items not being the healthiest vegan items, and the fact that I bloat easily, have never felt ill or hit the uncomfy food coma state afterward i.e. the ingredients are fresh, local and not full of junk. My pizza had caramelized onions, deep dish, vegan sausage, olives, honey drizzle I do t even know if was amazing though. So bummed the closest virtuous pie is 2 states away. The cannoli though. OMG. I cannot even express what mouthwatering blissfulness this cannoli was. It has become my mission to discover the secret recipe of this amazing creation. I could eat one daily. The prices were higher than on the restaurant's website-menu, so be warned, but it is the only way to get delivery. Even then, the price was not outrageous. We ordered the Forager and the Italian Eggplant pizzas. We recommend both. Thin crust with plenty of toppings on each. We also added the blue cheese and the ranch dipping sauces. Again, we recommend both. For starters we had the delicious kale salad and the garlic knots. Guess what? Both excellent! Don't miss out on the garlic knots! Just as good as my Virtuous Pie experiences in Vancouver. I did a later evening order just before their specified closing time, which was no issue for them. I ordered the superfunghi pizza ($15 plus tax), and I was quoted it'd take 30 minutes. I came 35 minutes later and they still needed another 5 minutes -- I guess they were busy. My pizza was delectable -- wonderful garlicy, cashew cheese to coat the base, with wild mushrooms, and topped with arugula -- pretty much a perfect pie in my books. Everything was done beautifully. So good to see Virtuous Pie succeed to such an extent that they're in multiple cities. Highly recommended. read more

This really needs three different reviews: 1. The Ice Cream- 5 stars. If you have an dairy issues, then you understand that having ice cream is a possible win and lose battle, but this ice cream is by far the best. Rich and flavorful- we tried the Salted Carmel & chocolate covered pretzel! I also sampled the tiger tail- if you like black jelly beans- this is the ice cream that will bring you right back to your childhood. You can buy the ice cream in pints and take them home with you... which was great. 2. Service- 5 stars. The staff was so friendly and attentive. They seem to really enjoy working there and it really added to the experience. 3. Pizza- 3 stars. Unfortunately, the pizza was my least favorite part. It was a very dry crust (we got the gluten free option) and minimal toppings. We tried the margarita pizza and the buffalo cauliflower pizza. With both, I wanted more flavor and less crust.
