Luego waffle with whipping cream, banana and chocolate
    Diego D.

Went early in the morning for a not early breakfast and waited for few minutes until the door was opened at 10:05... Got a little table outside and enjoyed a couple of liege waffles. Coming from Vancouver, these are much cheaper than Nero, also simpler, but the waffle itself was delicious.

Regular $4.50 waffle plus ice cream is around $6.50

I am sooo obsessed with Wannawafel! I was back visiting for a weekend and when I lived here I use to pass by wannawafel all the time and see its food truck in the inner harbour but I have no idea why I never tried it until now. Well, immediately I fell in love. The first bite was heavenly, firm on the outside but soft and really chewy on the inside! I've had waffle with ice cream before but the combination of Wanna wafel's hot waffle with the cool vanilla ice cream honestly kinda blew my mind. Also, normally when you ask for ice cream with your dessert, shops always give so little. But we foodies know the waffle to ice cream ratio is sooo important!!!! That's why I was so happy when I saw the generous scoop of ice cream they gave me for my waffle! By the end, I still had ice cream to spare! Amazing! When I was eating, a fly fell into my waffle, I guess even they loved it! But I didn't care, I simply removed the fly with my fork, asked for another fork and carried on eating! One thing that really made this waffle stand out from other waffles was light coat of sweetness on the outside of the waffle plus the confectioners sugar. Because I have a huge sweet tooth, I really enjoyed this! But someone who doesn't like sweets might have another opinion. Regular Waffle - aprox $4.50 plus ice cream - aprox $2 If you go to Victoria, you HAVE to try this! I want to live in Victoria just so I can eat this everyday! Can't wait to go back and try all their other waffles and the ice cream plus whip cream plus fruits combo!

Brussels waffle with fruit compote homemade whip and chocolate sauce !!! YUM

This place was soooo yummy!!! My boyfriend and I each got the Brussels waffles. They were crispy on the outside yet super fluffy and soft on the inside. Hands down best waffle I've had! This was such a great place and I will certainly be back. The staff were super friendly and answered any questions we had and the waffles were great and came out super quick.

Why do you have a sign that says no photos but you promote social media? Anyways, I digress. We ordered one of each type of waffle. Just like the description states, the brussels waffle was airy and light. I ordered it with just powdered sugar. Maybe a little too airy...and light on the flavor? It was good, but nothing to rave about. On the liege waffle we added the berry topping. Definitely night and day between the two waffles. I think you're better off getting the liege waffle with a topping if you're looking for something a little more flavorful and filling.

You're not imagining things. Follow the sweet scent, it's leading you in the right direction. Trust your intuition, or at the very least your olfactory senses because in a moment you'll be deciding between a liege and a Brussels waffle. If I lived in Victoria - there's no doubt that Wannawafel would be my breakfast of choice. As I sat savouring my really berry fruit compote topped liege with crystallized sugar *drool,* I watched as people walked in and just got a waffle to go... a waffle to go, people! Genius. Deliciousness. Go. There. Now. (And grab a coffee too, it was good!)

Yummy Yummy in my tummy!! We stayed at an Air B'nB right beside here and did a Yelp search for breakfast places and this popped up. The liege waffle with strawberry compote & homemade whip cream hit the spot!!! MMMMMMmmmmmm....

AMAZING waffles. Wow. As the other reviewed show you this is the place to visit when you are in Victoria! The fruit compote is a must for you waffles. It reminded me of how my mom makes it. The waffle itself is just magical. I just wanted more! So I went ahead and bough one for the road. They make their very own Belgium chocolate. Soo good. When we went in on the first day, the owner himself was there and he is just an excellent person. He went around asking everyone how they are enjoying their waffles. We talked to him for a good 5 minutes and he told us about how they got started, they went on a show in Canada, kind of like Shark Tank, but later on he chose to go solo because he did not want to just have a chain restaurant, he was telling us he wanted quality of quantity. Well they sure got it! Enjoy the photos :)

In a nutshell? Go here. Say hello. Savour waffles. Enjoy coffee. Repeat. I first discovered Wannawafel in June 2009, when it was "Waffles to go", a mobile cart sending the distinct sweet smell of waffles wafting through Victoria's Inner Harbour. As anyone that has known me longer than half an hour can attest to, I can find, cook, smell, or otherwise detect waffles from great distances. Even before there was an app for that. Created by a husband and wife team, I was greeted warmly and with genuine interest, in both my appearance as a potential customer and as a human. As I stood staring blankly in awe at the simple menu, simultaneous thoughts of "Why haven't I done this?!", and "How many waffles can I order without causing alarming looks?" ran quickly through my mind. I chose a Liege, a heavier dessert style waffle, served simply, fresh, and hot, plain in a napkin. No nonsense, just waffle. I ran to catch up to my friends, exclaiming about my new found waffle cart, and how it was most certainly set to change my life. I really love waffles this much. Waffles, cupcakes, coffee, ice cream. Repeat. Skip ahead to May 2010 and the word on the street is this cart has become Wannawafel, with a shop on Johnson Street. Off I went. This time I had a Brussels with whip cream, which was perfectly prepared. Fluffy and light, with its outer crispy texture and soft moist interior were exactly what I love in a waffle. The whip cream is heavy with great texture, and just the right amount of sweet. I have a sweet tooth, but don't like things overly sweetened, and try to avoid processed sugar as best I can. These waffles cater perfectly. On my 30th birthday in September, I intended to start my day here, and was dismayed to arrive shortly after 8am only to discover they open at 10am. I headed to Discovery Coffee to ease my troubles, and decided the ferry was worth missing, even for just one waffle. Back shortly after 10am, Mrs. Wannawafel (I apologize for not knowing her name) asked me how I was, so I of course told her it was my birthday and I was there to start it right, with a waffle. We got to chatting about living in Victoria, I told I was there to consider it, and she told me her story of emigrating to Canada, and how they came to start their waffle business. I love a good story, and was so happy to share this quiet birthday morning with her before heading to Vancouver. They serve Level Ground Direct Fair Trade organic coffee, who are an amazing company. I used to work for them on the mainland, if you don't know them, they're worth discovering. They offer vanilla ice cream, and the berry compote topping changes seasonally. It does not appear to come from a five gallon Sysco pail, thank you Wannawafel, for that. They've mastered simplicity, and with their recent Dragon's Den appearance seem to have been picking up speed. I wish them much success. I also day dream of being a part of their Sales & Marketing program, but that's another story. I mean really, selling and marketing waffles? Yes please. Perhaps a franchise is in my future.

A small waffel shop in downtown Victoria with a simple menu of two waffel options plus toppings - one cool concept made famous by Dragon's Den! A good spot to experience with a friend or a little rug rat =) Brusselswaffel = The breakfast waffel with simple ingredients. We added strawberry compote and whip cream. This was light and tasty and the better choice of the two. It would have been even better if it was crispier and not so soft. Liegewaffel = The dessert waffle with a caramel glaze. We added vanilla ice cream. It reminded me of something I would have gone crazy for as a kid - tasted like a crispy donut with ice cream that's overly sweet, and similar to the Belgium waffles I had in Brussels last year (They have waffels as a vending machine staple there!). 3.5/5. I've had better fresh waffels at buffet brunches and homemade. The waffels are very average, plus the price after a topping or two makes the waffle about $7. I'll give it to the owners for their creativity and simplicity of the concept; it's fabulous and makes Wannawafel a fun experience... so yah sure, I'd go again if a friend wanted to try it. Suggestion for improvement: Waffle-making process should be consistent. Push standardization of the waffle cook time - perhaps with a timer to simplify the process for staff and to perfect the crispiness of the waffels.

Liege with strawberry compote. Oh my gosh. We need to define the standard of waffles around this model. I got so schooled in waffles here it was like gutting a house and reflooring. This taught me a lot. Okay. Two types of waffles here: liége (from a dough, dense and with a crispy caramel coating on the outside) or Belgian (batter, light, golden). You can pick from about 10 varieties give or take. She said if you can smell something, that's the liége. SOLD. GIMME DAT WAFFLE. The owner is European and said hi while I ate. This joint was kinda sweetly tucked away in Market Square which explains why I had no memory of it despite having been in Zydeco the day before. If you love waffles, this is worth a stop. However, I thought with chocolate and banana options I was sorely missing Nutella. And with 100% sweet options, it'd be nice to have one savory option. In Portland there's a waffle (Waffle Window) with bacon brie and basil on a sweet waffle. Even just brie and a little apricot would be divine. So Nutella and at least one savory option would be great.

    The liege waffle.

The best.waffle.of.my.life. This has forever set the standard for what a waffle should taste like. I had never heard of a liege waffle before, but now it's the only type of waffle I want to eat. They are sweet and doughy in all of the right amounts. If you are visiting Victoria you can not skip over this place. Get there now!

Liege waffle with berry composed on the side
    Krizia C.

OMG! We were walking around the street and all of a sudden we smells this sweet heavenly smell! It was the best thing I ever ate. We got there at closing time, but they still served us, and didn't push us out. They only had de liege waffle left, but that was enough. I normally don't like stuff on my sweet, so I just like powder sugar. We decided to get he fruit compose on the side for my husband. This waffle is made out of a dough, instead of batter, and it is coated on a caramely glaze. To die for! I'm not big into sweets, but can't wait for them to open tomorrow an I can go get another one.

Nice and fluffy crispy outside. Yum!

Small detail, but appreciated. I went on a weekday morning, so there was no wait, but the space isn't very large, so I'd recommend making a reservation during peak hours. Staff were friendly overall, and the atmosphere is worth experiencing. That said, while the food was consistently solid, it wasn't particularly memorable. I ordered the Valentino, smoked salmon and poached egg on an English muffin with avocado, but the avocado was completely unripe, which brought down both the texture and the flavor. With a menu this wide, most dishes land in the "good" rather than "great" range, and execution details like that make a difference. If you're going for variety and the overall experience, you'll be satisfied, but if you're hoping for something exceptional, it may feel a bit underwhelming. Bottom line: a reliable brunch option for groups, as long as you're not setting the bar too high on the food itself.
