We hired College Hunks (Naperville, IL) for a local move between two homes that were only about five minutes apart. Before the move, we answered detailed questions about the size of the homes, the number of rooms, and what needed to be moved. Based on that information, we were given an estimate of approximately 6 hours of work and an expected cost of around $2,000. The reality was very different. The move ended up taking approximately 13 hours--more than double the estimate--and our final bill was nearly $4,000. We were told the extra time was due to a two-story walk-up and a blocked alley entrance, but these explanations do not justify such a massive difference from the estimate we were given. The men on the team also did not inform anyone that they were going on break and we have no idea when they started/stopped their break. To make matters worse, several items were damaged during the move: * The back panel of a dresser was damaged. * The center support leg for that dresser was lost. * A small piano was broken. We submitted a damage claim during the first week of May and have repeatedly attempted to follow up. Despite numerous calls, we have received no meaningful update or resolution. At this point, the lack of communication has been just as frustrating as the damage itself. I understand that estimates can change and that moving is difficult work. What I do not understand is how a move can take more than twice as long as estimated, result in damaged property, and then be followed by weeks of silence when a claim is submitted. All we have asked for is a fair resolution regarding the damages and a reasonable review of the charges. Instead, we have been left chasing answers. Based on our experience, I would strongly encourage anyone considering this company to get every detail in writing, ask detailed questions about how charges are calculated, and carefully document the condition of all belongings before the move.

This year was even worse than last for us because there was renovation projects involved and a lot more clutter. I purchased the Groupon for 6 hours of trash removal, up to 17 cubic yards hauled away. The Groupon price was about 50% less than I paid 1-800-GOTJUNK last year for the same size truck. Gotta love that, and I did. Tony was very pleasant every time I spoke to him, and I wish I could give a higher rating (despite my solid 3 stars), but a few things subtracted from a 4 or even 5 star rating. I didn't get a call to confirm the appointment, which was made weeks in advance. That worried me a little bit, so on the morning of the appointment, 3 hours before, I had to nervously call in and was assured yes, they would be there at the appointment time, They were late, again prompting another nervous call from me. As I was a bit outside of their service area, I wasn't mad at their being late, just wish I could have been given a heads up. Tony and associate arrived an hour and 15 minutes past the appointment time, but quickly got to work. Quickly is an understatement. They were packing up a little over an hour after arriving. Now, I know the Groupon was for 6 hours AND/OR up to 17 cubic yards of trash, but in my opinion, there was more room in the truck, had they filled the back up more before piling bags and things towards the front. They said it was full, and couldn't fit any more in. They left, leaving me with a bit of a mess. I didn't get any of the "We'll clean up" part of the deal. They also left half of the pile of yard waste that I had asked them to remove. I wasn't too happy about that. Based on the trash removal and cost of the Groupon alone, I can't complain. If this was a service I would have paid full price for, it would have been an entirely different story.
