Since COVID-19 introduced itself to part of our lives, I have been paying more attention on cleanliness and "cluster-ness" of my my own home. There were items that took up too much space and just didn't need to be here anymore. When I was doing budget-planning, I was curious to see how much a junk removal service would charge for removing a 3-piece sectional faux leather sofa that was shedding uncontrollably and a long white metal rail that fell off the wall years ago. I sent a Yelp message with written descriptions and pictures to a different junk removal company initially. However, the message was also forwarded to four (4) other companies with good rating. "Junk Relief" was the first company to get back to me with a quote and work detail. I thought the quote was reasonable and asked more questions in regard of this project. Although other companies eventually got back to me by the end of business day, I praised for prompt responses from "Junk Removal" and proceeded with the scheduling. Scheduling was quite easy. It was done through Yelp messaging and no phone calls required! On the day of removal, two (2) young men showed up during the time interval we agreed on, with masks on, and were ready to go. I missed their calls a couple of times because I was napping, but that was my fault (oops)! I showed them where the items were and they got to work right away. The process took about twenty (20) minutes. They guys didn't leave any mess. When it came to paying for the service, there was no bad surprise: the price they quoted was the price I paid for. I also received an invoice in the e-mail in a pdf file after the credit card was charged. I would say everything appeared to be legit. I fell into a nasty 'stay at home' rut during lockdown and decided to do some major downsizing. It felt like a super daunting amount of stuff so I decided to hire professionals to help me out. There are a number of junk removal services in Chicago but Joe at Junk Relief got back to me almost immediately (literally within about 2 minutes) and gave me a super reasonable quote (This type of job is priced by the amount of space it takes up in a truck). Received a text that they had arrived at my address at 11:45 (I was told via phone and text that I would receive a 30 minute reminder when they were on their way / what their ETA was as their time frame was a total of 4 hours of when they would possibly be coming -- this takes a huge chunk out of my day as it is). As I did not receive the reminder I was not home, so I rush home and call their number to speak with someone who went by a fake name and claimed that they would wait the 13 minutes it took me to get to my home. When I got home, their truck was not there to do the service. This individual over the phone assured me that the truck was there and I assured him that I was not blind and I would know if their giant box truck was here and was quite frustrated that I dropped everything and rushed home because I received a text with no warning that they were at my residence, as I had made them aware that I would need an hour reminder prior to their ETA if possible to prepare for their arrival given the four hour time span they provided (no specific appointment time). When they arrived, they had no manners nor regards for my residence nor things, even though I was having them come for "junk relief" as they literally threw my quite large couch off the railing of my second story apartment into the yard. They did say that they would be disassembling things free of charge however they did not do any of this, they simply took things assembled in order to move things along (for their schedule) as I had received a voicemail while I was on the phone with said person who claimed to be a manager (was not) who stated they were stuck at another job and would not be arriving until two hours after I received the text that they had "arrived" & was insisted they were there when A) this was not a manager but an employee that came into my residence and also took my Apple Watch in which I had to retrieve back on my own after he texted my number and B) was overall lied to and could not recommend this place any less. I had Junk Relief come out to do about 700 sq ft of carpet removal today and they did an incredible job! The carpet removal itself was very quick, and then the three of us tag teamed to remove the tack strips and staples. The whole job was finished in just over an hour, with cleaning and vacuuming as well. I'm very happy with the work these guys did and how efficient we were able to get everything out to the truck. They charge very little for labor which was a nice plus, since I was planning to do all the carpet cutting and removal myself. Several other companies quoted me over $100 more just to do the haul away and no labor. This is the only company I'll continue to work with as I renovate my home. Thanks again for your help today!
