We stopped by for dessert. The pie selection seemed small, but I managed to get myself a coconut cream pie slice. My family ordered a mango cheesecake and a raspberry white chocolate cake slices. Dessert was dropped off to our table after a short wait. My coconut cream pie was delicious. I enjoy coconut desserts in general and I could taste a strong coconut flavour filling. Whipped cream tasted lightly sweetened with toasted coconut on top. Service was good. Staffed stopped by to check in on us once and then again to clear tables. Restrooms were clean. They usually have their specials up on the board for you to view, and they move it around form table to table as you are seated. They also have a large assortment of cakes and pies to choose from as well. You can order full fixed cakes for special occasions or individual slices. My personal favourite is the Black Forest cake. The restaurant itself has been around for quite a while. Inside you will find a fire place and cozy seating, very homey and comfortable. I would definitely recommend their cream pies. I tried a Keylime pie there for the first time and it was very good. I enjoyed it thoroughly I had ordered two blueberry pies for a birthday took them home had them the next day and was quite disappointed. So I had pre-ordered a peach pie for my husbands birthday. And it was ready when I went to pick it up. The pie looked absolutely gorgeous, golden and crispy. However we were so disappointed with this pie. The filling was clearly made from canned fruit and was literally tasteless, it wasn't sweet at all. I'm not a huge pastry fan, but it's my husband's favourite and he also said the the pastry wasn't that great either. This is more like a 3.5 review rather than a 4. I came here for lunch on a Saturday after hearing some good things about it. It was quite busy inside but I was able to snatch one of the last few empty seats. They don't have a paper menu here but instead use a big chalkboard menu that they roll around to the tables. I ordered the Chicken Pot Pie and my boyfriend ordered the Shepherd's Pie. Chicken Pot Pie-I had high expectations for this becuase it seems to be a dish that's ordered often. Perhaps my expectations were set too high becuase it tasted like any normal chicken pot pie. Nothing was wrong with it but there wasn't anything that was unique or impressed me with the taste. Shepherd's Pie- I wish I ordered this instead. My boyfriend really enjoyed it. I had a couple of bites and it was delicious. The meat was flavourful and seasoned perfectly. The pie was soft and yummy to bite into. We also ordered dessert since it's what this place is known for. The pie pieces are big but $7 per piece is a bit steep. I rather have a smaller slice for a lower amount. We ordered a banana cream pie and carrot cake. They were both super creamy. It was a bit too much and we weren't able to finish the pieces. I feel like there's better desserts out there at other cafes. They were good the first couple of bites but it got too heavy in the end. Vi's is an Edmonton staple! I love their baked goods and while it's been a long time since I stopped in for heartier fare, I've always enjoyed their bunwiches and other foods. The location and ambiance is quaint, and great to visit during the summer when you can sit on their patio. Colourfully Hand written on very large portable chalk boards. I was hungry for a sandwich so I ordered the ham and Swiss. It was a two hander for sure and was absolutely delicious. It's a Saturday night. Date night with my wife. We had dinner elsewhere and wanted to have a nice dessert before heading home. We checked the google and it said Vi's was open until 10pm. We walked in at 9:05. There was almost no product in the display but did see two pieces of pecan pie which is my favourite. Didn't get a greeting when we walked in although there were two staff behind the counter. I asked what time they closed as there were chairs stacked on tables, lights were up and they looked like they were closing. The lady behind the counter, who still hadn't looked at me at this point says "ummm 9:30-ish". We turned around and walked out. We had not been to Vi's for years because we had a bad experience there with service the last time we were there. Turns out not much has changed. Here's a tip: If you want to close early, change your hours of operation. If you want your restaurant to remain in business, hire nicer staff who don't give you attitude and are generally just crappy. read more

The service was exceptional on both of my recent visits. The first visit was a group of four following a function downtown. We sat, ate cheesecake, drank coffee, and visited for two hours. Not once did we ever feel pressured to leave - 5 stars right there! On my second visit, again we came for a dessert after supper elsewhere and admittedly it was a Friday night around 9pm and their display case was sadly lacking as nearly everything had been gobbled up by earlier patrons. Services was still top notch! Okay... the low down: Lemon Raspberry Cheesecake - OH MY GOODNESS... You shouldn't even be allowed to come here if you don't give this cheesecake a try. Tart and Sweet - heavenly! ( I mean, seriously... I love TART!) Orange Pineapple Cheesecake - My least favourite of everything I tried (think subtle flavours) but still a solid cheesecake Oreo Cheesecake - Brought home for a treat for my hubby, and we didn't try it for 2 days and it was still AWESOME! I think I've found my newest and most favourite dessert spot! And I cannot wait to come back on a warm day to try out their patio out back - it looks like a little secret garden surrounded by trellis wall climbing foliage. Their dinner menu had me wanting to come back for the full meal deal, too! Yesterday eight of us had lunch at Vi's for Pies and the food was tremendous and the service was very accommodating and pleasant. I cannot say one bad word about our experience dining at this establishment. We were set up in the bakery take-out room which was a real bonus as we could talk loudly and visit pleasantly in a private environment. The gentleman who put us in this room really made us feel welcome and special. If you want an amazing lunch at a reasonable price give this place a try as you won't regret it. This is the seniors hang out of Glenora! You know, the place where our grandparents congregate around their morning coffees to gossip...LOVE IT! Eavesdropping (not difficult, the place is empty in the morning) on their stories made my stay enjoyable and entertaining! I will give the cinnamon bun a million stars. It was delectably crusty and crunchy on the outside and soft and gooey on the inside! I couldn't have asked for better ratios of sweet to doughy to cinnamon. That bun is a must-try in Edmonton! Vi's is a really unique little hidden treasure out on Stony Plain road. Upon entering we were greeted by some friendly ladies at the front and told we could seat ourselves. The atmosphere here is great mix of different age groups. We sat by some students studying but also noticed deeper into the dining room there was a large group of older ladies socializing and sipping coffee. The general ambiance of the place is classy but not in an imposing fashion. A really nice color scheme all around,attractive decor,and the lights outside the windows just add a really nice touch. I think this could be a great first date place for young couples. Not sure what brand of coffee they use but it was really smooth. I generally use double milk and double sugar in my coffee but I didn't do that here so as not to spoil the flavor. I also got the opportunity to try their Oreo Cheesecake and really enjoyed it. It looks like a small slice when you get it but it is so rich and creamy I could not finish. We went later in the evening and noticed there was limited selection for desserts so I would recommend getting here early if you like lots to choose from. All in all a really great experience and one I highly recommend if you want a break from chain coffee places or a warm inviting place to get together with friends and family. read more

I've had dry cake, and most recently, I was incredibly surprised to find dried banana chips in my banana cream pie. And the cream pie was more jello-ish texture than actual cream pie. Sad. So very, very sad. And I'm also not sure when the price started be to be $7 a slice, but that's a wee bit excessive for cream pie. Don't let the name of the cafe fool you, they do much more than just pies. My boyfriend and I came here for lunch, and of course, pie! They have a wonderful lunch and dinner menu, my photo is the ham and Swiss sandwich with their soup of the day. They also have lots of coffee and teas and an alcohol menu to choose from too. The cafe is a little bit small so it gets busy very quickly. I've seen it lined up out the door before. If you're not in the mood to sit, you can come in and just order dessert to go! The slices or pie/cake/cheesecake are huge and definitely worth their price! The food menu is a little bit expensive, but again, the quality is worth the price. After passing by Vi's a few times we finally stopped by to grab some dessert to go. I ordered a slice of the chocolate fudge cake and my husband got the mango blueberry cheesecake. Both were delicious. The chocolate cake was three layers + fudge icing but not too sweet or overwhelming. It did taste slightly like it had been in the fridge a couple days (the slightest touch dry) but I kind of expected that since there was about 1/3 of a cake left wrapped in Saran Wrap. Still above average though. The mango blueberry cheesecake was delicious. Rich with cream cheese icing. The place itself serves food and tea/coffee with ample seating indoors and outdoors. Always seems to be filled with people whenever I go but can always find a seat. Perfect for few friends looking for good dinner and dessert. Ah okay well this will be one of those times where I just couldn't decide what I wanted to rate it. I was going in for dinner with my boyfriend so we sat at a table pretty close to the front and the waitress came over and brought us their chalkboard sizes menu - which I thought was awesome and hilarious. She was really nice and took our orders right away after we sat down. I tried their brisket with an in-house made tea. The food was quite good actually and I was really happy with it. It is very much so a type of meal you would eat at home - the just right portion, familiar taste and simple cooking. The iced tea I had with it was also really nice. It was unsweetened but wasn't bitter. Afterwards we tried their apple cheesecake pie which I thought was good! The crust was pretty burnt but the filling of the cheesecake-pie was to die for! It was different from other cafes which I appreciated, even if the entire pie wasn't perfect I was still inspired to try and make it at home. The waitresses were nice and attentive - just a little awkward. Which probably has to do with the fact that there isn't a set 'structure' with who attends to who. Like I said it's a weird kind of restaurant meets cafe, which isn't a big deal if you don't mind munching on some brisket while buddy across the room sips a coffee in the same amount of time. My wife and I have dined at Vi's for Pies on several occasions and normally enjoy the food and usually the service. While substituting a thimble-sized soup serving over a salad will run you close to $4.00 we've never had any real complaints until last night, September 3, 2014. On the evening of September 3, we both enjoyed our meals at Vi's for Pies and then decided to purchase desserts to take home. That was a mistake. Upon arriving at home we could not believe the miniscule size of the Carrot Cake we purchased for $7.00. It was not even a full-sized piece. To show the relative size pictures of the cake were taken with a twenty-five cent piece. Sadly the experience does not stop there. We decided to place a complaint on Vi's for Pies Facebook page, with the picture mentioned above showing how small the piece of cake was. The complaint was however promptly removed by Vi's Management, and further posting by myself or my wife to their Facebook page has been blocked. We've not received any communication from Vi's for Pies, even though it would have taken about as long to address the issue as to delete our comment and change their Facebook configurations to prevent further posts. Apparently Vi's for Pies Management has decided that censoring any sort of negative feedback is more important than actually addressing it. Therefore, we have decided to post in this forum, and hope that Vi's for Pies Management will actually choose to respond to the complaint, since they can't delete it here. I hope that this seriously inappropriate customer service attitude by Vi's for Pies is a one off event, and not indicative of Vi's for Pies being a generally poor Corporate Citizen overall.
