Horrible. Don't come here unless you are cool with waiting 45 minutes to an hour after having an appointment previously set. Every time you come. I thought the first time was just a fluke, but nope this is an every time occurrence. I also had the same experience here as another review where I needed to return contacts I had received from another location with the wrong prescription. The male manager was beyond rude. The doctor even came out of the room and told the manager the contacts needed to be exchanged. The manager refused to exchange them because I did not have the receipt with me. He contacted the other store who verified I purchased the contacts there, yet he refused to exchange them without the physical paper receipt. This place is just the worst. Awesome, awesome, awesome. From phone call (actually picked up in a timely fashion), to the wait once i got there (I only got through a couple angry bird levels), to the exam (1 or 2) was under an hour. I must have spent another hour looking at their frames (big heads are welcome here). The people at the front were awesome and friendly and the optometrists were awesome. I went for eye exam for glasses and contacts; had to order both, but it only took a week to get them which was awesome. My contacts came a couple days later. Since it was my first time with contacts, I was given a trial pair, which unfortunately did not fit one of my eyeballs very well. I went back and they immediately saw the issue and let me try a different brand. All speedy, no long waits. Love this place. read more

I Like this place very much even though my first prescription was not correct. The dr has since retired and I was able to get my glasses changed to the correct prescription. Christian - seems to be the manager and he is polite and calm and very friendly while being very professional. Buying glasses is important and he does not hard sell. My doctor there was fine. But... there was almost always something going wrong in that place. I would come in for a test - and the machine was broken. My contacts would be ready - and nobody would call to let me know. I get my prescription and they didn't put the dot on one of the contacts. Getting an exam - and one of the lights in the room was not working. Always something. It also seems like people just can't follow directions there. If you need an extremely basic exam or prescription - then you can probably get out of there after 1-2 visits (hopefully). If you have anything that is slightly more complicated - I suggest you go elsewhere. I will never go back to this company. read more

I just want to specifically give a special thanks to Paola who works here. She truly was super helpful in the whole process of ordering my glasses. There was a bit of a problem that was happening with my insurance where they didnt want to cover my glasses that should have been covered. Paola made sure to explain to insurance that it was not my fault that my glasses werent being covered, it was a glitch in the insurance system and in the end the insurance agreed that it was in fact a glitch and they covered my glasses. After that ordeal, Paola was patient and kind when ordering my glasses and even stayed later for me until i figured out how i would pay with my parents. I really appreciate the service at Visionworks lately for my approx 5 visits in the last 3 weeks, that could have been super stressful, but thanks to Paola and staff i felt like a first priority. Visionworks has elected to tax patients who choose their services during COVID. There is now a $19 surcharge for a mandatory retinal scan. They explain the exam would be incomplete without. Other medical and service providers are making accommodations without passing excess cost on to consumers. We all want to be flexible and do our part but this seems like straight up profiteering. read more

I walked in with no appointment And was immediately greeted by Amanda. She got me in to see the Doctor promptly and checked my insurance for me. She assisted in helping me choose my frames, adjusted and cleaned my current pair or eyeglasses, and even changed the nose pads. Great customer service! read more

Worst. Experience. Ever. When I went to pick up my glasses, it was just a cascade of escalating customer service assaults and fraud. The worker that assisted me was very snarky and condescending. When I tried my glasses on, they were crooked. I asked the worker to adjust them so they weren't crooked. She put them on the table to show me, that in fact, they were level when placed on a table...and thus couldn't possibly be crooked when on my face. I had to tell her that people's faces aren't flat like tables, and insisted that she just adjust them. After an onslaught of additional slights from the workers, I simply said, "I'm done. I don't want these glasses. I want to return them." The workers stated they didn't know how to process a return, and I'd have to come back a different day. When I got home, I realized that, although I had paid for the more expensive polycarbonite lenses, they'd actually given me cheaper plastic lenses. I went to a different Visionworks location to confirm this. Shame on you Visionworks. I'd chalk the wrong lenses up to a mistake, except the workers were so intent on refusing to give me copies of purchase paperwork, that I have to chalk it up to purposeful fraud. I've been to different Visionworks locations. They were great. But this one on Elston, absolutely awful. read more

This store seems messy. I went it with the code of the frames I wanted from another vision works. The manager told me she ordered them and would call me in a couple days. Two weeks pass and I call the store. The woman who answered could not locate the order and really did not even seem to know how. She told me the manager would call me later when she cane in but I'd rather go somewhere with. Better follow up. read more

We will never return to Vision Works ever again, don't know if it was the manager I was talking to about returning a couple of contact boxes that their eye Dr. suggested I get and didn't work for me because it was the kind you can also use for readying. I tried using them for a few months could not get use to them so I went back after a few months and talked to a eye Dr. there because my wife was getting her eye's checked and I told the Dr. about my problem and told her I still had couple boxes left one was opened because I tried using the contacts a few times and could never get used to them and told her can I bring the boxes back and get credited for them and Dr. said yes bring them back so I went back a few days after and I talked to someone that works there and told him my problem and he refused to take back my contact boxes because one box was opened and was rude and nasty about it just so happened the Dr. I talk to was not there. I or my wife will never return. This happened last year I just so happened to get a appointment remember from them. We will take our business elsewhere. read more

Listen, my glasses are important to me. My glasses and I are like Linus and his security blanket. I feel naked without 'em! I was long overdue for an eye exam and some new eye wear, but I was apprehensive and afraid the costs would be sky high, like my past experiences with LensCrafters. Thanks to my super awesome little sister, Stephanie Y., I headed over to Visionworks. 1. Dr. Mezbur is fantastic! I almost felt like we were girlfriends just chatting away, although the health of my eyes was the main topic here. She makes you feel very comfortable and she is very thorough. 2. The frames come in many, many styles and many price ranges. I stayed away from the designer frames and headed straight to the wall. I found plenty of cute options that were in the $69.99 - $99.99 range. 3. The lens options also vary in price/quality, but you can definitely find something if you're price conscious. Their boxes of contacts are also very reasonably priced at around $25-35 per box or less. 4. The entire staff was super helpful and very attentive (without being in yo' face), even though I spent forever deciding on the frames I wanted, asked a billion questions and kept changing my mind. 5. They carry a pretty extensive selection of accessories like cases, cleaning items, etc. Also, if you buy their Instaclears glass cleaner (safe for coated lenses), you can bring your bottle in and they will refill it for FREE! Alright, here's the breakdown for ya: 1 eye exam for glasses 1 eye exam for contacts (which includes a free pair) 2 boxes of contacts (Accuvue Oasis) 1 pair of frames + 2 lenses for glasses (thinest/sharpest lenses available with non-reflective coating) One year warranty/savings club membership thingy (which gave me a discount on the glasses and contacts) TOTAL COST: $315.00 I have spent more than that on 1 pair of glasses! I, also, very rarely wear contacts so this is a year's supply for me. I feel like I got a great value and I love my new glasses. I highly recommend Visionworks, especially if you are worried about the cost. They have some great options, so don't wait 4+ years to get new glasses, like me - just go now! read more

Amazingly positive experience! I called at 12Pm and got a 3:15PM appointment THAT day. I walked in and immediately started looking at frames. They didn't have every designer, but they have a very extensive selection of pretty up-to-date frames. Both technicians I worked with wiere super helpful and friendly. They weren't too pushy trying to upsell me and understood that I didn't want to pay too much above my insurance coverage amount. My optomotrist was the young and very capable, Dr. Mezbur. She was efficient, friendly, and very informed. I previously had lasik and she was even able to give me insight into "touching up" and dry eyes. After perusing the glasses options available, I decided to still with the plan to replace the lenses in my old frames. The lens technician fufilled the request in 15 minutes! I was in and out in less than 2 hrs. I was shocked! They made the experience of being told that my lasik wasn't a complete success much more tolerable. I might even like having my glasses occassionally! FYI lens replacement with my insurance came to $117. Didn't love that price, but it was happy pay it for the fast turnaround. read more

I'm going to have to agree with all the recent reviewers, this place is not worth the time! I've gone here twice now, once for myself and once for my boyfriend. The time I went I had made an appointment well in advance since I had somewhere to be an hour and half after the appointment time. When I got there it turns out the doctor had just taken a walk-in prior to my appointment time that ended up making me wait for my appointment for about an hour. An HOUR! When I was finally seen, the doctor seemed frustrated because it was late (similar to anther reviewer's comment). Also, the staff and the doctor both made me feel terrible for not being able to open my eyes wide enough to take images of my eyes, which seemed really silly. How's it my fault I have tiny eyes? The appointment took about two hours in total and I missed my next appointment. The time I went with my boyfriend we were seen quickly but they ended up doing all kind of unnecessary testing and not explaining the mark up. So, what we thought would be a $20 visit ended up being $60. This would've been fine if the process had been explained throughout, not just tacked on to the bill at the end. The staff people have also given us a hard time on both occasions we visited. The first time we were trying to buy glasses with their buy one get one free policy and, because the staff kept telling us something different, we were very confused what the deal was. Every time we asked they made us feel like total morons. The second time we went, when my boyfriend asked why the bill was so high, the staff woman rather sharply kept telling him that the price she'd given him on the phone "was just a quote." Again, that's fine, but the tone of the whole thing was not good. read more

I went here looking for new prescription glasses, thinking I wanted dark wayfarer type frames. Kayleen helped me find several good options but none of them were "it". So she suggested a few styles that were completely different from what I thought I wanted. Her suggestions looked way better on me than the ones I picked out, and I ended up getting a pair of round tortoise shell frames. I wouldn't have considered this style before but I've been very happy with them. She also suggested a clear frame which I wasn't crazy about at the time, but now I'm thinking I may go back and get those as a second pair. Very helpful and excellent recommendations! read more

Generally speaking, I avoid going to the eye doctor. I don't mind going to the dentist, heck I don't even mind going to the gynecologist. But I'll put off going to the eye doctor for years because I always feel like the doctor never takes the time to explain things before pressuring me into buying a year or two's worth of expensive contact lenses and (multiple pairs of) glasses I don't want and won't wear. Every time I called I had to explain who I am and what I am calling for to every person that picked up the phone. It doesn't make sense to me why you wouldn't just ask the original person that picked up. I went in to pickup my contacts for a 4:15pm appointment, at 5:00 Dr ask who I was waiting for and I told her I was there for a follow up for the contacts I wore for a week. She apologized I wasn't put on her list and took me in after her next pt. Found out in that appointment I didn't need the contacts the other Dr was pushing me to get which would have been more $$$. Earlier this fall I went to Visionworks after having a very poor experience at a competitor located in downtown Chicago. Violet was extremely helpful in working with me to identify the contact lens I needed, leveraging my insurance for the best deal possible, and making me aware of a rebate that was also being offered. In addition she helped my wife find new glasses and have them fitted. Violets extra effort did not stop there. After having issues with the rebate, I contacted Violet and she was able to find a solution allowing me to qualify for the rebate helping save me money, time, and stress! I certainly will continue to go to this location and work with Violet for future orders. read more

Horrible experience with male clerk at the desk in Chicago at Canal St. I made an appointment online for an eye exam with contact lenses and got a confirmation email soon thereafter. The email had a link to their website to confirm and fill out paperwork in advance, which I did. Approximately one hour later I got a call from the store to confirm my appointment and asking for all the same information I had already provided. She said they didn't received it "yet". She informed me that I had a $19 copay, in which I told her that I would bring my insurance paperwork along to show that I had a $0 copay. The next day I got another call to confirm my appointment and asking for same health/insurance info. I told her all that was done the day before. She said that the link was wrong and that she emailed me the "real" link. No mention of a copay. I clicked the link to the exact same paperwork (formatted the same way, colors of website the same) I had already filled out and humored them with a second set. I arrived early to my appointment and was greeted by a male who asked my name and if I had filled out the paperwork (ok, minor, but don't be so lazy-you had to check me in so take the extra millisecond and look it up). He showed me where to wait and made no mention of a copay or any other fee. I was examined by Dr Popovich (super awesome, btw) and had asked her about the contact lenses my insurance paperwork mentioned that would be covered 100%. She said she wasn't sure but would ask the office staff. She fitted me for contacts and said to wear them for a week and see how they fit. When she walked me to the front desk she asked the male about the contact lenses. He said they were single vision. He then said, while turning to me, I was given an exam for multi focal (as if to say "haha, too late, you asked the wrong person at the wrong tIme") and asked how many boxes was I ordering. I told him I wasn't sure if I even wanted contacts (I wanted to try daily's but the ones she ultimately gave me were monthly's-been there, done that unsuccessfully). And then the hard sell began. When I assured him I was not buying anything today, he abruptly moved to another desk and said "Come here,". I sarcastically said "please?". He then said I owed $87 for the exam and $19 for some test. I told him my exam was covered with insurance and I didn't know about any test. He replied "You agreed to it, it was documented in your chart". He snatched the Rx for contacts off the desk and said I couldn't have it because I didn't pay for it. He replaced it with the Rx for glasses saying that was all my insure paid for. I asked him why he was such an asshole, he made some sarcastic remark. I called my insurance while I was there and he kept coming close to me, attempting to talk over me while I was asking questions. I started to leave and he called after me saying "You're not going to pay for your exam!". He was so rude and so pushy. I felt like he was trying to scam me because I wouldn't order anything that very moment. Shame on VisionWorks for training their people to double-talk, omit and confuse their clients. Clearly it doesn't work because if it did the male "sales"man wouldn't be such a jerk. The female front desk clerk was an innocent bystander, and was very personable when testing my eyes. I will pay what I owe if I read the insurance wrong, even if I was suckered into it. Sadly I had a similar experience but different scam at the Lakeview location. That time I wasn't charged extra for the "contact lens" exam, instead I was scammed into one pair of $700 glasses (just for the lenses, the frames were free!). My insurance talked to them. The insurance said they tried to charge me for their "proprietary" upgrades on everything, ie scratch-resistance, anti-glare, feather-light, etc. In the end I paid $265 for 2 pair. I shouldn't have given the Canal location a chance. My advise, don't use VisionWorks in Chicago, you won't save any money, you'll be scammed into paying more. read more

Had a problem with a prescription from an outside optician and after having the glasses made at Visionworks, needed to to go back to the original optician for a review of the scrip as I couldn't see well with them. At Visionworks, Dr. G. Actipes made time to talk to me and explain why the scrips were different within 2 weeks and looked at my eyes to determine how to remedy the situation. To start with my contacts are muti-focal and correct for astigmatism, which make them very expensive. I had been wearing glasses because I had not reordered the lens prescription. I came back after 6 months and tried to order them. Dr. Fakhoury would not just order my lenses. He rechecked my eyes and changed the script a little. He is a great doctor and so is the lady doctor that works there. The staff is professional maybe too professional but, you can't fault then for doing the job correctly. When the lenses came in they the lady doctor rechecked my lenses and the fitting. WHAT A GREAT PLACE. read more

The glasses I purchased at this location did not hold up well at all. The frames are good but the lenses got a hair line crack on the side after just six months. Also the coating on the lenses has come off you can see how its half on/off my vision is not clear b/c of it. Since I don't wear my glasses outside of the house realliy I have not gotten this fixed. The quality is just really poor. I would not buy glasses from here again. I had an average dr exam visit. read more

I wouldn't get glasses anywhere else! From the time I walked into the door I was treated like I was a family member they hadn't seen in a while! I was a walk-in and my glasses literally broke minutes before, Alex and Kathleen sensed my urgency and got me an eye exam within 20 minutes! Dr. Actipes was great! He was funny, charismatic, professional and I am confident that he got my prescription just right and he talked me into contact lens! I don't know how he did it, but I'm already wearing a pair and I am grateful! Alex taught me to put them in, within a few minutes and helped me find the right glasses. Kathleen walked me through my pricing options, professionally handled my questions and multiple payment methods. And then my Hero Jocelyn came through with help getting me my new pair of glasses faster than expected! Not only that, it has been two years since I was last in the store and Jocelyn and Kathleen remembered me! We had a great conversation and they have a fabulous memory! This staff is incredibly friendly, efficient, professional and just great people all around. Did I mention I came in during rush hour, and I noticed that everyone was receiving top service and care! They are not even good at apologizing when you have to go back 3-4 times because your contacts haven't been ordered correctly or they lost your order or some such thing. And then they informed me that even though they messed up my order, I couldn't get my insurance coverage credit back because it had been used. This place is a joke free repair except they don't have parts like nose guards or sides of glasses so you have to buy a new pair of frames. Go on line and they are &100.00 cheaper. By contacts and get $50.00 rebate on line but it doesn't work so go in and have punch it in and they are the wrong kind. Make a big load fuss and they will take it off your credit card. I give up. Brief recap: I bought Visionworks glasses that my eyes couldn't adjust to, and when I tried to return them to see what the fault was I was told that the lower quality was "my choice". So, after speaking with online customer service I returned today to Visionworks on Elston to see what could be done. I just want glasses I can see through! And though the optometrist, as always, was helpful, I can't say the same for the manager. When talking to the manager he interrupted me in the middle of my sentence and said "What do you want?" He said he'd read my Yelp review, talked with customer service, and told me my 100 days for return was now past (though not when this whole issue began). There are a lot of positive reviews on Visionworks, and a year ago I'd probably have written one. But if you get nothing else from this review I'd say stay away from their sales. The quality of the glasses are lesser, and the in store customer service isn't as dedicated. Wish I could share a photo of my 'new' glasses, with the lens popping out. I'm not going back - I'll just write this off as a financial loss and go somewhere else. I need glasses, and can't spend forever dealing with this 'Comedy of Errors'. read more

Terrible customer service! I purchased contacts at the end of 2017 so as not to waste money in my FSA. They gave me the wrong prescription which I just discovered when I went to use them. The manager Becky refused to replace even the unopened boxes because I purchased them more than 30 days ago, citing "policy". Unbelievable - their mistake and I now have to have a new exam and scramble to get contacts. Needless to say, Visionworks will not be getting my business. read more

I had an appointment so i arrived about 10 minutes early . I was told to fill out paperwork and wait . I waited 50 minutes before i decided to leave , no one checked on me during this 50 minute wait, no one approached to apologize for waiting to long , no one approach to assure me it will only be a moment longer. I did however see othesr being told it will only be a moment longer of a wait. I had visited this vision works last year and was please with wait time, customer service so i decided hey I'm due let me go back to visionworks. i am very disappointed i made an appointment and i still waited 50 minutes i finally got the guts and approached them advising i will be leaving and no i did not want to reschedule. this review is not for me to get any kind o discount or something free i will simply not return and wants others to see my experience when they are looking for a place to get their contact or glasses. so i see vision works commenting under peoples reviews requesting for contact info to remedy the bad experience and not visionworks i will not. read more

I walked in last week Friday with my mom and Alexandria greeted us with a warm smile. She kindly tightened my mom's glasses as they were very loose and she was travelling the next day. Alexandria also cleaned the lenses begire returning them to my mom. In addition, she was very helpful regarding a future appointment. I have to be honest, overall I had a good experience at Visionworks, but it definitely got off to a rocky start. The first doctor I saw gave me a thorough eye exam. He took his time and discussed the process the whole way through. In the end, though, he got my prescription wrong. (It was like looking through binoculars!) He also didn't listen to my request when I said I liked a certain kind of contact lens and insisted I get a different brand. If you ask me, he was getting kickbacks from Acuvue, he pushed the brand so hard. After a week of wearing my uncomfortable and incorrect lenses, I knew I had to go back and insist they correct the problems. Expecting a fight, I was pleasantly surprised when they happily re-examined me and not only issued me a new prescription (much lower than the original), but "allowed" me to order the brand I wanted. Overall, great customer service, I just wish they had gotten it right the first time. Make sure to see Dr. Mezbur - She was great and fixed all of the problems from the first doctor. read more
