I had an issue with the new prescription that I received. This was the first time I have ever worn progressives (bifocals) and I became ill. Without even blinking an eye (excuse the pun) the staff took care of it. I should be getting my new glasses within a week. You get Amelia the computer on the phone who is absolutely worthless!!! I went to get my prescription renewed but wanted to keep my frames. Frames came back defective and I'm still waiting over a year to have them fixed. My daughter had an appointment was running a few mins late couldn't even call them because the computer generated answering service doesn't allow it. I have been coming here for years. I loved the service that I would get whenever we ran into Moneca - she is lovely and by the sound of my last interaction, she was no longer there. Prior to covid, it was relatively easy to get an appoint. Here's a timeline of my last and final experience with Visionworks before I took my business over to Warby Parker. Called in December 2020 to set up an appt - Moneca answers and says there aren't any appointments til Jan 2021 and all appts should be made online. She said I should call periodically to see if a sooner appt opens up. 12/2020 - Scheduled online for 1/27. 1/26/2021 - BF + me got text confirmations for our appointments. 1/26/2021 - got a phone call around 5P from their office assistant that there was a glitch (it allowed appointments after 4P) on the scheduling system (mind you, we've been signed up since DECEMBER) so they would have to reschedule. I explain that with our work schedules, we can only do an appointment late in the evening or on the weekends (any time). As I was trying to understand that the scheduling issue was on Visionworks' end and the fact that they would not honor appointments scheduled for weeks in advance, the office assistant gives the phone to her manager (she must have been new, because I have NEVER spoken to her and been SPOKEN TO like that at visionworks before) who basically told me to take it or leave it. My appointment was rescheduled for a whole month later, to which we did not attend since we decided to take our business elsewhere. So, if you'd like messy scheduling, no accountability, and a free attitude on the side, come here. If you would prefer for your scheduled appointments to be honored and a short wait time, go elsewhere. There are plenty of other affordable options WITHOUT the hot mess! read more

I brought in my prescription for new glasses about two weeks ago. Prior to this my wife and my daughter purchased glasses and contacts. When I sat with Wesley, he had issues with putting in my cylinder number, as it was -5 and the system only went to -4. He told me to contact my Doctor and confirm this (I already new it was correct, as this isn't my first pair of glasses). Anyway, I did and the doctor contacted the store. I had to call back and initially was given the runaround as to who would actually help me in Wesley's absence. I finally got in touch with Wesley, and he did tell me the cylinder number was put it (turns out all that needed to be done was to call the lab, which I believe I mentioned). I spoke to someone else the next day and was told I would be called back to provide payment, this was last Wednesday. I was not called back, and today is Tuesday. I called and spoke to Wesley, who said I needed to come into the store, I asked him I thought I could pay over the phone. He told me I needed to come in to give him my prescription. I already gave him my prescription and in speaking with him, said he doesn't' have it...then how did they put in the correct cylinder number? At this point, I am assuming the glasses I selected were not held for me and I would basically have to start over. I made my daughters appointment 1 week in advance. My appt. was at 12:40pm..I get a call at 12:20pm to tell me they don't see 5 year olds. NOT ONLY was I already half way there because I'm coming from North Bergen BUT I ALSO pulled my daughter out of school and asked my job to leve early all in advance to be told this last minute. I visited the Bayonne NJ store in Dec 2019. My overall experience was pleasant, however, their follow-up is HORRIBLE. I called a few months later, requesting a copy of my prescription, the same copy I requested and was assured it was in the envelope with my $300+ receipt. There was no prescription, so I called back. I was assured it would be printed and ready for me the next day. I arrive, and no one has any idea what I was talking about and they had too many people to answer a simple service request. Fast forward, July 2020, I call to get my prescription AGAIN. The auto answering services sends me to the corp website. The corp website states for a prescription, I need to call the store. 30+ minutes later...during normal business hours according to the auto answer...no answer. I will never go back! Awsome!!! The staff is very professional and friendly. The frame selection is very large but they seem to lack high end designer frames. That is okay because the ones they do have are more than adequate for most people's needs. The store is very clean and well organized. I never felt rushed to select a frame or strongly pressured to over shop. The entire experience was very laid back yet the end results were excellent. I was glad the staff helped me make a great selection as I needed help in making up my mind on which frames were best suited to my facial structure. Visionworks had a thorough knowledge on how to deal with my insurance company nearby removing my need to deal with them directly. The doctor is super nice and by far gave me the best and most comprehensive eye examination I ever had. She explained every steep as did her staff. My vision condition was fully explained and all my questions were completely answered by Dr. Cummins. Most upscale eye glass palaces are not up to Visionworks near white glove level of processional dedication. For a chain location I never expected this level of service. I was highly impressed that about two weeks after I placed my order they all greeted me with a smile and actually still remembered my name. The frames I received were reasonably priced and rather well made. See attached photo. I am overall very happy with the entire experience and would definitely return to this location without any hesitation for both new glasses and prescription sunglasses. I have been coming here for years, & the checkout process was always pretty lengthy. I just went for my yearly appointment, & it took the entire staff over an hour to check me out. There was a new girl taking care of me, who was nice, but didn't know the system & kept getting stuck. One other staff member was trying help her but was having issues as well. Apparently there were 2 managers on duty that didn't try and help them once until we hit the 60 mins mark, & I finally complained. One of the managers had to come over several times during this excruciating process to authorize something in their system yet didn't acknowledge me or ask if she needed help. He would use the keyboard for 10 seconds & walk away. The female manager who finally checked me out blamed my insurance for the hold up & took no responsibility for the staff or lack of training & support from management. I paid an an extra $15 to have my glasses & contacts shipped to my house to not have to come back here, & she told me that sometimes they don't get sent. I also had to sign a waiver saying they weren't responsible if they broke the frames I brought in. I spent $500 & brought my own frames. I WILL NEVER RETURN HERE even though I have been their patient for years. It's a shame because the doctors are wonderful, but the whole experience is a total nightmare. Came here late, before closing time on a rainy saturday 01/25/2020. George is amazing and helped me pick my lenses and get the most out of my insurance benefits. HOWEVER, there is a blonde lady who sits in front of George's desk who is very rude and was trying to imply and was making remarks about how the store was closed and NOBODY should be there. A patient was trying to come in and in her words she said, "CLOSE THE DOOR. DON'T LET THEM COME IN!". This is WHY I am giving this store 2 stars. The whole 30 minutes I was there, its like she was trying to make us leave and didn't care if we get a good service or not. Even while I was speaking to George about picking my lenses she kept talking rudely while I am behind her, making remarks again and again implying that I should hurry up and leave. It was extremely distracting. I understand that we came in late but really is that how she should treat customers? Booking an appointment is a waste of your time at this place. I had to wait for ONE MONTH for an appointment. They emailed or messaged me no less than 5 times to confirm the appointment. On the day of, I even received a phone call, as well. I submitted all necessary forms online. I arrived in a timely manner, but was still looking at about an hour wait. Terrible customer service. Always busy here, have to wait a lifetime to get seen by the doctor. Had a exam for contacts and they didn't have the correct lens for trails so they gave me something similar. They said they will call me when they get the correct trials in. There was no follow up, had to call them and got the run around 2 and half weeks later they say the trails came in. I use bi-weekly contact lens and had the similar trials for 2 and half weeks. When I went in to pick then up they would not let me give them to me till I saw the doctor and the line was long over hour wait. They have terrible customer service and no follow up for their customers. They have more employees than customers but cannot do anything to help for you. Everything takes very long to complete here, been going to opticals all my life and this one is the slowest one I have ever been to. read more

I come from a family where we are used to spending a fortune on expensive frames and lenses for a variety of reasons, and I've had some bad experiences with discount stores. Then I found out I needed a very complex prescription that required 2 different prisms. My father suggested Visionworks and I was surprised because he's the biggest glasses snob in the family but he said he was really happy with the glasses he got there and the service. I happened to have had 2 pair of frames already that I was able to use so I only needed lenses but Monica and Aida helped me make decisions, guided me through getting used to these radically different lenses and rushed the order so it was even a day earlier than planned. Everyone was incredibly nice. And my glasses are every bit as good as the $800 pair that are in a drawer unused. read more

Vision Works is a chain. I personally liked this location because the doctor was amazing. Dr. Zaky was my doctor and she was GRREEAAATT. She was very thorough and took her time with me. I didn't at all feel rushed or felt like I had to move from machine to machine to complete an eye exam. If there was something that was not clear or needed a second look, she did it. She also explains things very well. I felt comfortable with her. The whole process was breeze. The doctor also helped me pick out glasses and sunglasses. Where have you heard of a doctor that takes their time to do that nowadays? Usually, the doctor's job ends when the "eye exam" ends. She went above and beyond expectations. It's things like this that go a long way in health care. If you go to this location, make sure to ask for Dr. Zaky. I will recommend her over and over and over again. She will not disappoint. The retail part and the offices are clean. They have a good selection of brand names and generic glasses (if you are not looking to spend too much). I got two pairs and I think they have specials for that sometimes. read more

Avoid. I had my first appt on Jan 14 & finally picked up my contacts this past Tuesday 3/17, 2 months later. I went in to update my prescriptions & completely regret it. On my first visit, the doctor was completely uninterested and dismissive when I told her my vision was still blurry. She prescribed me VisionWorks' brand of contacts AquaTech (claiming this was all my insurance would cover) & that I was to come in the following week for a follow up. When I went for my follow up I had a different doctor, I explained to her how my vision was still blurry and that the brand of contacts felt scratchy on my eye. She then told me the previous Dr had given me contacts that would not treat my astigmatism (something Dr. #1 did not even mention!!) I was given Acuvue Oasys to try and had to follow up a week later- one weeks turned to 3 due to snow/work. I finally get back in and need to start my week trial over again (these are weekly's & my time was more than up) while I was there (it was a Saturday) I ordered the Acuvue Oasys so they'd be ready for pick up during my follow up on Friday. Friday comes and I get my follow up (they will not release contacts until you have a follow up) and they inform me my contacts have still not arrived. I was told they would call me when they did arrive. A week passes and nothing. Finally on Tuesday evening I call and explain I've been waiting for contacts that were ordered 2 weeks ago. They call me back and miraculously they had "just arrived!" .... Right. The worst part is when I went in for my (2nd) follow up one of the front desk girls was in a screaming match with a patient. I recorded a video Bc I could not believe it was really happening.. Honestly - SLOW & no customer service skills (besides the one Hispanic male, I think his name is Josh) everyone else is rude & clearly have no follow up skills. The 1st Dr rushed me and didn't even prescribe me correctly. Btw my insurance did cover the Acuvue Oasys! I am totally turned off by this place as are many of the reviewers! read more

My daughter who is 6 and turns 7 in less then a month, has been there before to get glasses.( hence them having her in their system) she lost her glasses over the weekend so I called they said they take walk ins. Came in, was then told she couldn't be seen cause she's not 7 * guess that's new because 2 years ago we got glasses from there * - with a prescription but they still checked her eyes- ( SHE TURNS 7 in 20 days) I called to speak to a manager whose lackluster energy was no help as well. it's truly dishonorable that they wouldn't make an allowance for a child who lost her glasses and literally could not see. They don't tell you accurate information before seeing the doctor & don't check insurance coverage carefully. They told me my insurance covered certain procedures & once I got them done, I was told that it isn't covered and to pay out of pocket. I purchased contact lenses for them & asked them to give me a full price for when I come back to repurchase my new set, they asked me to come back another day because they didn't want to look it up in the system. Very lazy & unprofessional! They make up store policies that does not match up with the vision works policies on the website. My experience at this Visionworks is always nothing short of pleasant. Over the last several years the staff has been super helpful and kind. George was extremely professional and attentive when it came to helping me find the perfect pair of glasses. Even in a sometimes busy/fast paced environment I felt as if he really goes the extra mile to individually assist each one of his customers. Dr. Jones was also super kind as well. TERRIBLE TERRIBLE PLACE - I give them 1 star for being clean. I went there to get fit for glasses and during my exam the doctor started panicking and told me I had a torn Retina and there is a chance of loss of vision. Being nervous I was going to go blind, I decided to go to my previous doctor and get his opinion. He then told me that doctor was an idiot and I do not have any tears. After receiving my glasses, I noticed there was a huge glare that led me to see basically nothing. When I went back to get them repaired, they wanted to charge me over $100 to replace my lenses. They were brand new glasses and there is nothing I could've done to cause a glare so I became frustrated and walked out. After wasting money at Vision Works on glasses that I am never going to wear, I thought I should give them a second chance. I now need more contacts so I contacted them to order with a prescription I had from a different doctor. Their employees were so rude and not helpful at all, I called them two days ago and was told someone would call me back, and of course no one called. I called back and faxed my prescription and again was told someone would call me. When someone finally called me, their service was awful. Their staff is so rude and incompetent! Please do not waste your time even walking by this place or you may end up with an incorrect diagnosis, their ridiculous prices or rude staff!!!! read more

I have now been here twice, once for an exam and once for a follow up. Both times I waited for over 30 minutes and found the service to be very slow. They have a ton of people working but not doing too much. I met with 2 different doctors and was not impressed. My first appointment was on a Saturday and at the end of my appointment I was told they don't dialate pupils on Saturdays (super annoying) so I had to come back a second time. When the doctor dialated my pupils the drops only made it into one eye and I told her so. She ignored it and I feel like I got half my money's worth out of paying for the drops. I went there because it was close to my apartment and accepted my insurance but I will not be returning. read more

I returned again. This time to take a family member. They operate the store around the doctors lunch. When I called in the morning, they said they were packed. They would fit me in. So I figured, let's give it a shot. I thought the store was going to be packed. It wasn't. They sort of have to run a store like a short order cook. When we arrived, I don't think anyone was waiting. A person who had an appointment, was late, was taken in before us after already waiting an hour. They should have taken us first, and then the "late" person. The same people were there from when I first visited the store. When they realized that I haven't had an exam in 2 years, they couldn't squeeze me in. The doctor had to go to lunch! I believe we are entitled to our breaks. Sometimes they don't work as planned. My family member had to make a follow up appt. it was for 9:30 am. I figured I could go in at 9 to get my eyes check. Nope. 11 am. How does that make sense. After the visit, I felt that the 2 hrs spent there were not productive. It was busy with other customers looking at eye wear, but nothing traumatic. The eye exam itself is very thorough, and the doctor did an excellent job of addressing us both. Vision works needs to change the model of revolving around the doctors lunch, and they will be more successful. read more

I must say I was very impressed, the several times I called/visited the environment hasn't change very positive, family oriented, just enough energy, informative, eager to help, large selection of frames to choose from. Every one was polite from the front desk to the Dr to the person just training. Only con is they don't see children younger than 8 yrs of age :0(.....however the service is worth going to two different Dr's, they give more comprehensive testing to children that other Dr's have not/don't do for whatever reason. read more
