there was a medical incident while we were in but the ten responded very professionally and afterwards thanked us for our patience and apologized (Unnecessary but appreciated) for the inconvenience. John then checked and while being unable to put a prescription in the oakley frames I had brought but was able to find a similar pair and get an order for lenses with a little help from the team. They informed me that Oakley is simply very particular about their allowances on curved frames and asked if a higher price was ok before proceeding with a higher cost lens. overall this was a great experience and while I am quite particular about who I let examine my eyes, I will likely return for my future glasses needs. read more

I'm in between optometrists at the moment, but I needed to have my lenses replaced in my glasses frames, so I decided to give Visionworks a try. By the way, before we go any further: This location is inside the Castleton Square Mall! Don't be a ding-dong like me and drive all around the general proximity of the mall looking for a stand-alone location. There ain't one! Visionworks is in the mall. If you enter through the south entrance, it's to the right. Anyway, I needed to get my lenses replaced in frames I already had, and fortunately, Visionworks did this for me easily. I just brought a copy of my prescription to the store, and they were able to give me price options for different coatings and whatnot on the lenses. Then they took my glasses, and off went my spectacles to the special place that glasses go to get spiffy and newish. Visionworks told me it would take about two weeks for my glasses to come back, but they were done in about five days! And the lenses were great and just what I wanted. This isn't the newest and most modern optometry joint that I've ever visited, but for my purposes, it was a very good experience. read more

I have been looking for a new eye doctor for a bit, and after scrolling on my eye insurance website, I picked this location based on the closeness to home. It was a very quick and painless process, I checked in filled out some paper work, had my eye exam, and was able to get a year supply of of contacts for a very reasonable price, compared to what I had been paying before. 3 stars. I'm notorious for waiting til the last minute to use my vision benefits. This year was no different. Thanks to these nice folks, I got it done! Luckily, I was able to score a next-day appointment at this location. I arrived a couple of kind before my appointment but had to stand waiting at the front door for almost ten minutes due to COVID-19 protocol - there wasn't anyone available to take my temp and do my questionnaire. I had another obligation that evening, so I needed to make this appointment as quick as possible. I asked them to pull over my insurance info from the other location to save time...of course, they didn't. So, I had to wait for them to verify my insurance and obtain benefits. Those steps should be done prior to the patient presenting, especially if I tell you that my vision benefits are not available online - you must call. That was irritating, an opportunity to revamp protocol and reduce wait time, and possibly increase customer satisfaction. I had a long wait before my appointment, so I used the time to pick out my frames. I loved that they are watching and every frame you touch gets sanitized before being replaced. And there's a frame for everyone: nuthin too fancy though. Don't expect to find high-end designer, haute couture styles here. Just metal, tortoise shell, and colored plastic. The chain runs behind at every location I've ever used. It was almost 45 minutes after my appointment that I finally saw the doctor. They took retinal photos - those pricey ones - even though I shared I wasn't interested and had already taken them the year prior. But then STILL dilated my eyes... if you've already taken the photos, why not just evaluate the eye health and keep it moving? That's petty. The doc, Dr. Colon, I think... was super friendly. Loved chatting with her during my appointment. She's one of those folks that I could see myself meeting for happy hour after work. IRL we could certainly be friends. At checkout, they tried to charge me for some "extra" services... to the tune of $60! No ma'am. Not today. The GM told the young lady that she spoke with me earlier and explained all the fees... umm, nope. I had never seen the GM a say in my life! I asked to speak with her and told her that exactly. She then apologized and said I "looked" like the woman she spoke with earlier. They adjusted the charges without further incident, so I was pleased. About 1.5 total spent there just getting my exam. I'm at the age where I finally had to get glasses. Progressive lenses to be exact. VisionWorks was recommended and I looked on yelp to find my closest one. It was in Castleton Square. Everyone was extremely helpful in my search for glasses. The doctor answered all of my questions during my exam. I left with two new pairs of glasses ordered. It took about two weeks to get them. This last week I found out I could go in for (free) adjustments since they kept falling down my nose. I went in and was helped right away and left with better fitting glasses. Oh, and I didn't really realize how much I needed them until I got them! read more

Edit: Update it looks like my glasses will come in 6 days instead of 10. I was told this delay will always happen because the VisionCare policy is to send my rx away to the facility and they decide whether or not to craft it there. Even though in the past they sent it away. Thy can't just immediately send it to the outside facility. This is not how other optometry centers do it. They have the freedom to just send it off day one. So my glasses come in 7-10 days instead of a month. My glasses are currently broken. If I had any idea that it would be 3-4 weeks instead of 7-10 days I never would have come here. Maybe VisionWorks is fine if you have a moderate or mild vision correction. But I do NOT recommend them for severe/profound corrections. ---------- As I'm writing this, I've gone 17 days without a pair of glasses. I am told I will wait another 10 days. At this point I am not confident that I will have a pair of glasses on this date. Usually, I worry that my prescription won't be properly fitted, but right now, I'm not confident they will be in the store on the date promised. I have a difficult prescription, so I'm used to waiting a bit longer than other people to get my glasses. But I usually get them from other places within 7 - 10 days. I was told that I could expect my glasses in the same timeframe. 14 days was the longest, but I shouldn't worry about it being that long. I called after ten days and was told they would take two weeks. After two weeks, I called daily and was cheerfully told my glasses were on the way. They'd very likely be in the store waiting for me within hours. They were not. I called the next day and was told the same thing. Yesterday, the same. 14 days, don't worry. It was past 14 days, but since they were coming for sure in the next delivery, why argue? Today I called and asked if they were in. I am sure I was about to be told they were on their way today yet again, so I stopped them. I said I'd been getting told that several days in a row. They aren't coming in today. Finally someone looked in on it and even though they were "finished and on their way" days ago, they were being sent to another lab. Why did it take two whole weeks to get sent out to the other lab in the first place? My prescription is very obviously not one they can do in a normal lab. They should have been sent to the other lab on day one. I've worn glasses my whole life and this is what every other optometry center has done. Since they told me they were going offsite, I just assumed that's where they were going. I want to know why my order just sat around 2 weeks not going anywhere. Why was I told they were "on the way" when they were not? Probably because they didn't even look. They just wanted me to shut up and get off the phone. I'm sure they could have checked the status -- because they did when I finally told them to. Even before this mess, I could tell things were disorganized. They couldn't find my insurance record even with my card in hand. Three of them worked on it and they found out the original clerk screwed up my birthdate so couldn't bring up my record. The optician giving my initial screenings told me that she had to retake my right eye scan. She set up my left eye for rescanning -- didn't notice at all that she was about to scan the wrong eye until I told her. Then when she put the images in the file, she flummoxed the optometrist by putting each image file in the wrong location. My left and right eye were switched and my optometrist had to spend a long time moving the images to the correct location and making sure the images weren't upside down or reversed. The optometrist was very good. But this disorganized office was so bad that I cannot recommend her. I'll state again that I've waited 2 1/2 weeks for my glasses and am told to wait another 10 days. I have almost ZERO confidence that my glasses will be ready then. The only reason I'm not demanding refund yet is because it will take up to 2 weeks to get another pair fitted and ready. And I'm not sure if my insurance will be sorted out and ready to pay for the glasses -- since they already gave money to this place. If I don't get a call back today about this (I probably won't) I'll have to call my insurance company and see what to do. I will call the other Visionworks offices and see if there's something the company can do. I notice the other branches have high ratings and good reviews. Only THIS branch suffers. Maybe I can get some sort of compensation from a different branch. read more

Dear Almost Friends at Visionworks, I wanted our relationship to work. Having experienced both the overpriced incompetence of Lenscrafters and the "If it sounds too good to be true, then it's probably not true" prices of places like America's Best Value and Eyeglass World, I embraced your advertising as a comfortable middle ground. So, I entered your Castleton Square location today with enthusiasm and a readiness to purchase a pair of glasses. But, oh my, within moments you damaged our relationship beyond repair when your young, undeniably fashionable salesman responded to my inquiry about whether or not Visionworks took my insurance with the question "Is it Medicaid?" Ouch. This may seem like an innocent inquiry to you, but it's not. It's really, really not. As a paraplegic/double amputee who has spent years of my life working when I did, in fact, have the choice of living on disability, the question "Is it Medicaid?" was a huge stereotype, a biased inquiry made even more hurtful by an almost flippant and ignorant tone that made it quite clear to me he truly assumed that because I was in a wheelchair and, yes, because I was dressed very casually that I "must" be on Medicaid. Of course, I quickly corrected him and assured him that "No, my insurance is not Medicaid" and, I responded with my employer, an employer whom I'm fairly sure pays their employees more than you pay your retail employees. I apologize if that's a slight dig, but I'm still more than a little bothered. I suppose I considered it more than a little odd, as well, because at the time of the inquiry I happened to be exploring your high-end frame section - not because I was fantasizing, but because I could actually afford them. I tried to muddle my way through the deep offense I took to this inquiry and, in fact, learned that you do actually take my insurance. So, there you have it. My business was there for the taking if you could only overcome that initial faux pas. Heck, I'd even found a pair of frames I really liked. Of course, you didn't really know that because this young, fashionable yet completely clueless salesperson seemed to have tired of me after a few denied frames and went off to work elsewhere behind the counter. So, by the time I went back to the counter and asked him what I would need to do in terms of providing a prescription if I was interested in purchasing glasses, I had already resolved to give it a day's thought to allow myself to cool off and decide if these glasses were really "the one." Then, of course, I learned that you had already committed the final act that would dissolve our relationship - your salesman, trying to be helpful I suppose, informed me that he would cancel my authorization as having that would "get in my way" elsewhere. Um, what? I asked you merely tell me if you took my insurance. I didn't ask you to pre-authorize anything. Did you automatically assume that I would surely be so completely captivated by your frame selection that I would ignore being insulted and ignored? Oh, and by the way, please don't tell me that's standard practice as I'm most assuredly not an idiot and I've been dealing with this insurance for years. You went an extra step, an unauthorized step, and could have easily impacted my ability to turn around and buy a pair elsewhere should I so choose. So, despite my relative fondness for your frames and my hope that you would serve as a competent, yet fiscally responsible middle ground in my search for new glasses, I left your store mumbling "Maybe Lenscrafters isn't so bad afterall." Fortunately, that feeling quickly went away. I suppose Visionworks is a good name for you. After all, after only a few minutes I certainly saw the light and took my business elsewhere. read more

EVERYTIME I come to this place, there is an issue. This time, even though I had made an appointment solely for my daughter, they had scheduled both me and my daughter. They treated me like I was the one who made the mistake. When I called to make the appointment, I specifically asked them when was the last time my daughter had been seen. They told me August 2023. I asked them that since it was only June 2024, will my insurance cover her being seen three months early. They told me yes, and I scheduled the appointment using my daughter's date of birth. I never gave my information to make an appointment for me at all. When I arrived, and they didn't have an appointment for my daughter at the scheduled time, they repeated the process of calling the insurance to see if my daughter could be seen in August since it hadn't been a full year from her last appointment. It was once again confirmed that it was okay. In the interim, they allowed a walk-in appointment to go before us and we weren't seen until 45 minutes after our scheduled appointment. Went in for an eye exam and during "pre-screening", was eventually guided to the Optomap machine, rather than given the initial choice to have dilation (free with my VSP plan) done. No one likes to have their eyes dilated, but the approach for the $30 charge was like buying a new car with an unspoken option added in by the dealer. I did hesitate since I'd had a discussion with VSP (who kept putting me on hold) the day before. I should have known better. I opted for it in the interest of time and having a recent health concern. The exam itself was fine, but was less involved and time consuming than all of the pre-testing. Then it was time to check out frames. My VSP plan has a frame $ limit, which is reasonable. No problem with that. The young sales / service person was fine until it came time to deal with the lens material and "options / upgrades." I really felt I was doing battle as in with negotiating price with buying a new car. I ended the visit saying I wanted to check my benefits, despite their printout from VSP. Glad I did. There is NO co-pay required for polycarbonate lenses and scratch resistance coating. The unspoken message was that everything was an "option." She tried repeatedly to up-sell advanced scratch resistant coating. I don't wear glasses for anything other than night distance driving, and that's not too often. A LOT of pressure and not a lot of respect for my limits. I didn't go in to spend $200 beyond what my plan covered. $75, maybe including extra costs for a frame beyond the allowance. I won't be going back there. Sales people should have clean fingernails also! read more

I have had my fair share of experiences with eye exams and trying to pick out frames at many different places (e.g., Walmart, LensCrafters, Ossip, and Eyeglass World). I went on a weekday afternoon and there was only one other patron within. I was immediately greeted and before I knew it, I had the assistance to help pick out 5 frames that were great options. This was a big deal because it is typically a challenge to find the right size of frames (54+) and for them to still be attractive looking and reasonably priced. Service was consistent and friendly throughout. I will definitely return! read more

Worst experience ever. Tried to buy some simple frames with just blanks in the frames. Non-prescription. After taking the lenses to the area to pay it took 10 minutes of typing in the computer to get half done. After this I cut my losses and just left. They have the most moronic checkout experience ever. Avoid these idiots. read more

Best exam I've had in years. Dr Achampong went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable. I was hesitant to use a commercial optometrist but my sister has seen Dr Achampong previously and swore by him so I thought I would give it a chance and so glad I did.
