Dr. Scott Craig is an absolute gem! I visited him seeking a referral for an ophthalmologist due to eye pain. I had a suspicion of an ulcer or scratch, so I was prepared for a thorough examination. Dr. Craig took the time to listen attentively to my concerns and emotions, providing me with reassurance that everything would be alright. After examining my eyes, he recommended an eye exam, which I initially dismissed since I had one just five months prior. However, it turned out that my vision had significantly changed, and I was straining my eyes. During the process, my eyes became extremely dry. Dr. Craig offered me an easy-to-follow regimen to alleviate the dryness, and I am eternally grateful for his compassionate approach and the positive impact he had on my well-being. Normally I go to the University of Utah for all my health care needs. However, when I arrived I learned that the UofU no longer accepts VSP. Running low on contact lenses with an expired prescription, I searched the VSP website for another provider that I could get in to without waiting months for. I was skeptical of a "big box" chain for a prescription update but I have to give all the associates here 5 stars. Professional, thorough, efficient. I got an updated prescription for contacts, glasses, readers and progressives in about 30 mins. I had a full exam including screening for macular degeneration and cataracts. The doctor on staff walked me through all the results and imaging and answered every question and gave me trial lenses to test out for age related nearsightedness. Nothing but praise for all these fine folks who assisted me today. It's rare to have such excellent experiences with customer service. I didn't purchase any eyewear, but the associates here are absolutely tops. read more

This is only my second time ever going to an eye exam/doctor. This was one of the places listed for my insurance and I was able to schedule an appointment very easily. When I showed up the employee at the front, I believe his name is Jon or Joe, was extremely helpful and friendly. There was a mishap on my part, confirming the appointment but luckily there was a spot available. The actual exam was quick and easy with the doctor. He was also very friendly and nice and explained my prescription very well. Back to the payment and seeing what is covered by my insurance, John or joe the employee at the front was so knowledgeable and helpful. He gave great suggestions on upgrades without pushing it. It's just really seemed like he wanted the best for me since I have very little knowledge about this field. Ordered my glasses and it should be ready in about two weeks. I have been with Visionworks in Sugarhouse for 10+ years and, sadly, had the worst experience last week -- so much so that I have now taken my business elsewhere. I had an appointment scheduled for last Friday and received the usual text and email reminders. However, NONE of these reminders mentioned their new "5 minute" policy -- meaning if you're even 5 minutes late (even if you call ahead), the doctor can choose whether to see you or cancel your appointment. I was going to be 7 minutes late (last appointment of the day) and, as a courtesy, I called ahead to let them know I was on my way and just a few minutes behind. The woman I spoke with acknowledged my concern, admitted the 5-minute policy was not listed on any reminders, and even said they were "working on that, and lots of people were having the same issue." Despite this, they still cancelled my appointment- over 5 to 7 minutes! I was literally minutes away from parking at this point.. We're all human, and there is not a doctor who doesn't allow a 5-10 minute grace period, especially when patients regularly wait at least that long (or longer) past their appointment time to even be seen. In fact, during my entire 10 years at this location, I never once saw the doctor immediately, even when I arrived early or on time. I almost always waited 10+ minutes to be seen. To enforce this ridiculous policy -- ESPECIALLY without including it in ANY written communication -- is bad practice and completely unprofessional. On top of that, I've had repeated issues with this location regarding customer service, trouble getting my prescription sent to me, delays with contact lens orders, and more than once was told they'd call me about sample lenses they didn't have in stock -- and never called me back. Save your time. Either go to a different location or switch stores entirely... read more

Can't give enough praise. Despite being fairly busy most visits, they are always so helpful to myself, my GF, and even my 80 year-old mom. Scott the optometrist is so nice and on a recent visit, Jon took time to help me refit my glasses and explain much to me as a new glasses wearer. Did the same for my GF! Jon has a terrific fund of experience and expertise that made the time with him well spent. And, while we've already been in several times, and have even taken my mom in for several visits, I know we'll be back again soon. This is my go-to place for excellent service. John was super patient with me and really helped me dial in a NEW eyeglasses style that not only looked better than what I had in the past but also has better clarity and Scott also did the same for me with contact lenses. DO NOT GO TO THIS OPTOMETRIST!!! If I could leave negative stars, I would. Here's my story: I visited VisionWorks in Sugarhouse both in 2022 and 2023. I had noticed my vision getting progressively worse at a somewhat quick rate and figured my prescription was either expired or incorrect. BOTH times I went to this optometrist, no formal exam was done where a technician or the doctor himself looked at the health of my eyes. The only thing they did was put me in front of a machine that estimated what my updated prescription would be, and instead of the optometrist looking at that estimation and determining why it might've been what it was, he ripped up the receipt paper with the estimated prescription on it and said "I think this machine is false this can't be right." He then sat me down in the office (with the door fully open, mind you) and quickly flipped through the rolodex of "1 or 2..." I kept informing him that they all still seemed very blurry and distorted, but instead of listening to me and addressing the issues I was facing, he wrote me a completely incorrect prescription for lenses, BOTH times I visited. Flash forward to the end of 2024, I visited an optometrist in my new city and was informed that I have a degenerative eye disease called Keratoconus, and that at my current state with how much scarring and damage has already occurred, they said any optometrist worth their salt would've caught this as early as FIVE YEARS AGO. They assumed it had been many years since I'd seen an optometrist, but they were absolutely shocked to hear that I had seen one both years prior. Now I am facing irreversible damage, I will likely have to have a procedure that won't even stop the damage from progressing, just slow it down, and even after that, I will never be able to see clearly again, regardless of corrective lenses. All of this could've been addressed and treated YEARS ago and I could've avoided additional damage, had this optometrist at VisionWorks been genuinely in vested in the care of his patients and knew what he was doing. He clearly does not. For transparency - The prescription I was given from the doctor at VisionWorks was -0.25 in both eyes. My prescription after visiting my optometrist here in NYC, not even a year after receiving that previous prescription, is -4.50 in both eyes. And that's just as close as we could get it to being *somewhat* clear vision. That solidified for me that this optometrist is only in the business to get as many people in his office on a daily basis and write prescriptions for lenses that he hopes patients will purchase on site at an absurd cost. This optometrist is a scammer, and he should not hold a license to practice ANY type of medicine. I am furious about this situation I have been placed in due to the negligence of the optometrist at VisionWorks. I will continue to tell everyone I know in the SLC area to avoid this establishment at all costs and to spread the word around the community, because NO ONE should ever experience this level of incompetence. read more

I have been to this location before. The staff is very friendly, and the optometrist was very nice. The prices are on the high side, but I get high quality glasses without my vision insurance. My glasses would've cost almost $1000, but with the insurance I only had to pay $235. I will return to this location again read more

I like the Drs, but even they have all retired. Visionworks doesn't really care about you, it's about money, not long term relationships with their customers. Usually this location is super on it but my latest experience has really ticked me off. They lost track of my order for saftey glasses that I've needed for work for over a month. The lab has called me and verified it was stuck in process and I clarified with them that they are just saftey glasses with saftey lenses. The store manager promised they would follow up with me and nothing for 3 weeks! They were supposed to be done in a week and now it's a month and a half and work is frustrated with me for Visionworks mistake! I called the store again and they promised to call me by end of day and have not... tried calling them 10mins before closing for an update and they acted like they didn't remember that I called for an update! Understanding runs out when you keep making excuses and don't follow up with your customers! Do not give this company or this store your money. As soon as they get your money they do not care about you. I wouldn't be writing a review if I could get a hold of someone to help resolve these issues, but after an hour on hold... here I am. The first time I visited this store I purchased contacts and waited 3 months before calling the store. They told me they forgot to place the order- honest mistake (or so I thought). I wait 2 months and nothing, so I call again -they said the contacts were there. I asked why it takes so long, they said it doesn't take that long - they got in a while ago (yet no one notified me). I complained to the manager so she gave me an extra couple months of contacts and a bottle of solution. The second time I visit (I know why would I go back?) I order contacts and verify my info and where the contacts will be delivered because of what happened last time. Again I wait almost 2 months. I call in to check on the order and they say that they're in. I ask what the order process is and why I am never notified that the contacts are in. They tell me they don't know and we can verify my info when I pick up my order. It's because they do not care about you after they take your money!!! Long story short: do not go to this location and do not give Visionworks your money because they simply do not care about providing the goods and services that you pay for. read more

I went into Visionworks for a new glasses prescription. Got the prescription and went home and ordered glasses. The new prescription is worse than my old one and it spent $80 on an exam for a prescription that doesn't help me. I called to see if I could get refunded and they said no. They said I could come back and try again within 100 days but I don't really trust the optometrist anymore considering he couldn't do one simple thing he's supposed to be trained in. I have had good experiences with different Visionworks in the past, but I will no longer be a customer here. The employees were nice and attentive, that was not the issue. The doctor that checked my eyes only used one machine when I usually go through a series of tests during an eye appt. Only after I asked, he said one of the machines was broken so we skipped it and I could come back next week if I wanted that assessment done. I wish they would have told me upfront as it's not easy to take time off work and drive out of my way to this appt. The doctor did not have the correct contact lenses that matched the prescription he gave me, so I had to order my contacts without ever trying on the correct ones. When I received my contacts, the prescription was so bad I could not wear them. I tried calling Visionworks to get a prescription check appointment scheduled, but they barely ever answer their phone so it took a few tries and a lot of time waiting on hold. During my appointment, the doctor confirmed the prescription was incorrect and updated it, without apologizing, taking onus or providing an explanation. How can I trust that the new prescription is correct? I now have $400 worth on contacts that don't fit and there is nothing that can be done. read more

Showed up 15 mins early. 20 mins after my appt. was scheduled and doctor was a no-show. All I heard were the employees talking about the doctor driving around the parking lot for 20 mins. No communication to patients (besides the over-hearing of the staff talking about it). Staff thought it was funny and did not seemed concerned. Had an issue with VisionWorks before but needed an appt last minute to use my benefits before they got expired (my problem). I will never attempt using VisionWorks again especially at SugarHouse. Dr. Scott might still be driving around the parking lot without any concern that other people may be impacted. Hello Doctor - Not everyone gets your salary and and has your flexibility. People have jobs to get back to. I get it was snow. Leave your house early like the rest of the world to make appointments on time. Be considerate of patients in the future! read more

FIRST CLASS EXPERIENCE I went to the Visionworks office in Sugarhouse on Saturday, and was able to schedule an appointment to have an eye exam & checkup the following Monday. Upon my arrival for my appointment I was greeted by the friendly receptionist, she confirmed my name with the appointment, then had me begin some paperwork she had prepared prior to my arrival. I appreciate her friendly demeanor and the preparedness she demonstrated. Shortly after the paper work was accomplished the same woman took me to preform preliminary examination. She was thorough, and seemed well informed to operate the equipment. I had a brief wait for Dr. Jolley, but after the appointment ahead of me I noticed he followed has previous patient to the lobby, and was sure that she was receiving assistance. I liked that he didn't just show his patient where to go, then turn his back to continue with his appointments. He took care of the patient ahead of me, then after he was sure that patients needs were being meet he approached me and invited me to the examination room. He took special notice of a vision impairment I have, allowed me to explain my purpose for the appointment, and I was able to share a simple history of my impairment. Dr. Jolley and I communicated professionally and coherently. I admire his demeanor and the professionalism he shared. He shared his findings from his observation of my vision and then offered some recommendations. After my eye exam it appeared that he had another patient waiting to see him. Before he left me I asked if their store sold any Harley Davidson frames. I directed me to where he thought they were, and then another employee quickly assisted me to find the frames, and Dr. Jolley could tend to the next patient. All the employees were observant and quick to help. After I found frames I liked, and received help from two of the employees, Catherine helped me directly as we fit the glasses, I decided on additional specifications, such as transition lenses. Catherine was humorous and it was another experience of professional care and sincere service. I did not catch everyone's name, but I will say every employee I interacted with was a strong motivation for me to return. My prescription will be prepared and ready for me to pick up in about two weeks, and anticipate the same friendly, welcoming environment. They have earned my return business, and I will not hesitate to share my terrific experience with friends and colleagues. I'm surprised at the people who are surprised at the bad reviews. Recently went here for a simple eye exam. The "greeter", a guy behind the front counter, had the "I hate my job" look and showed absolutely no interpersonal skills. Not a good first impression. The only time I saw him smile was when he was staring at videos on his phone, which he did a lot. The tech, who performed the initial tests, was friendly. The optometrist was competent although when I told him I would not be buying any frames/lens (I only need "readers" for close up), he had that car salesman look when he knows he's lost a sale. This place is a Frame/Lens store first and foremost, that also provides exams. I was expecting a professional staff that gave me professional advice, whether it meant a sale or not. Today at approximately 3:00pm MST I entered what used to be a very comfortable place of business, so much so that I have continued my service there for an many years. Thinking that this would just be a simple in and out, with friendly smiles with the same great service received in the past.  The place I am referring to is the Visionworks located in the Sugarhouse area of Salt Lake City.  Today treated to a brash, "I'm not going to take responsibility if this snaps off, while I try to fix them."  First off, no smile, a greeting. I give him that, but not letting me get a word in edgewise to explain that the glasses were faulty. Also, the frames were purchased at his store and the first words, "I'm not going to take responsibility!"  I was appalled at the degree of quality of customer service, or lack there of.  I left the store, gathered my thoughts then called the store to speak to the store manager, come to find out this man claims he was the manager. Our discussion continued on the phone. I tried to explain that the glasses were faulty and because he assumed, he was com I guess that language read just to strong for him, because he accused me of being verbally abusive. I have work in customer service for years and if he considers that verbally abusive he needs to quit while he is ahead.  Needless to say glasses not fixed, according to one of your store managers not taking responsibility for a faulty product. Had the worst customer service experience ever. Don't get me wrong, Visionworks does offer good offers and be on time on their services. Just a backstory, Visionworks was made known to me when my boyfriend introduced me to it but in a different branch/location, so far, the best customer service I've had. That's why, I really do like this shop. Then, this month, I decided to purchase a sunglasses with prescription and went to Sugarhouse branch coz it's nearer to my house. The lady in the front was not welcoming at all. While waiting to pay for my order, people were at the front door waiting for her to open it, (by the way, this shop locks their door and aske you to call their freakin' customer service number, God knows how long would it take for us to get on hold with them), I can see her facial expression that she is annoyed bu the people standing in front. And so, time came when I picked up my glasses... This same lady, just looked at me from inside the store (oh yes, I can see her), then couple of minutes, opened the door, asked what do I need, then I told her that I'll pick up my glasses... handed it to me... then, I looked at her, Can I fit them? ... just let me fit my glasses outside the store... I told her, it needs to be adjusted... then, they adjusted it, i said it feels weird and tight, and I asked her, would you let me come in and do the proper fitting? RIDICULOUS!!! I know we're in the middle of pandemic, but you should not treat your customers like that. read more

This was my first eye exam in years, but I've been through plenty in my childhood and teenage years. I've never had one like this. When I first walked in, I got to overhear the latest gossip about so and so and what she does and doesn't do at their other location. "That's fine" I thought. They don't know I can hear them. Probably better to discuss in the back but whatever. After combing through the frames from the right side of the store (and trying on quite a few) I was informed that I had been looking through the women's section. I tried to laugh it off with woman that let me know but she wasn't very receptive to my view on gender roles. Next I was whisked off to a young guy. He was polite at first. Took me through the machinery with a helpful script. Next it was time for the doctor. Now I drink on the weekends like a lot of people. I put in a good effort to not breathe when he was on the opposite side of the scope. I still felt a little judged. It was almost like he smelled the alcohol on me from the night before and just got kind of colder, if that makes sense. Maybe I was just being insecure but I honestly felt like a degenerate there. I rushed through the eye exam to get it over with. Judging from the contact lenses I'm testing, I think the prescription I walked out with was wrong. After the doctor I was seated to try on some lenses. They sat me at the desk with the young guy from earlier. He didn't say a thing. I sat there for a few minutes fiddling with some lenses. I tried to make some small talk with him to make the experience less awkward and he just said "yep" then got up and walked away to gossip with the ladies in the front again. I sat there like a fool, looking around and wondering if I would adjust to the lenses or if I rushed into a bad prescription. I think I waited for 15 minutes sitting there and questioning whether I was supposed to pay and leave. I think I should have been told to sit tight or Something. I'm really good at picking up on cues but I felt really confused. At some point the Dr. came out and took me back into his office to see if the lenses improved my vision or not. After that I was off to the showroom to look at frames. I decided not to buy there and just GTFO. I stood at the front desk for another 5 minutes before someone came to check me out. After leaving, I'm not sure if my experience was so terrible because it was right before a holiday or I caught them on a bad day. All I know is that I spent a lot of my time trying to have polite banter and make up for the awkwardness of the whole thing. I don't think patients should have to make up for the poor or limited social skills of the people working there. I also think staff should not be gossiping in front of patients. Wish I did not have to give even one star. I realize it was COVID time in February however I did not expect to be treated like they wished I was not there. The receptionist was rude. The doctor did the exam so fast that it could not have been complete. Then I bought the contacts he recommended and I hate them. They are monthlies and are not a brand I have had before. I logged onto 1-800-Contacts and ordered a different brand and dailies instead of monthlies. I love them and so went to order some more and he would not approve it. They are the same RX other than brand and they are dailies instead of monthlies. What a jerk. Never go to this place. When you call you get only a machine that tells you to go to the website. When you get there you get the same machine and it will not give the option you want which is to speak to a real person. I will NEVER go there or recommend them to ANYONE. read more

Really just don't go here. The people are nice enough but it is impossible to get a hold of them. Their phone number takes you directly to a machine and they never pick up, they leave you on hold for 20 mins and then take you to another machine and so on until you get frustrated and hang up. Even customer service isn't able to get a hold of them. They also promised to call me back but they never did. read more

He made me feel that he didn't believe me about the problems I'm experiencing with my vision. He told me that he "didnt have time to explain physics to me." I have been waiting on my glasses since the 7th...The first time they contacted me, which I drive from park city to this location, they had the wrong glasses...which is really disturbing when they apologized and told me that they used my first initial and last name?? So my information was on someone else's prescription? Then I went on their website to see if my glasses were ready and it stated that they were so I went back down there and they didn't have them..it's important to note that All I need were the lenses. I sent them emails with no response and I want a full refund. I'm sure I won't get a response, if you're that busy hire people. read more

First of all, I was a first time buyer 6 months ago. The promotional sale helped me get new glasses for the first time in 3 years. They got their money and I got my glasses. For most that's the end of story, but I've been able to reach out for minor adjustments (that many try to do on their own) and tips on maintaining the new pair. The quality of service has been phenomenal and I recommend them to everyone! Jake runs a clinic for customer care and quality service. He is a true expert and a service oriented individual. Not only did the man helping me fix the main problem, he straightened them, didn't charge me a fee, and did it all quickly. As a single father every second and every dollar is important. The ads relating to cost are BLATANTLY MISLEADING. The FRAMES are cheap $60-ish, but that is not a 'pair of glasses!' That is a frame set. The cost of cheap frames and single vision lenses was more than $520.... FIVE HUNDRED TWENTY DOLLARS! So, you get two cheap frames and poorly constructed lenses for FIVE HUNDRED TWENTY DOLLARS - not $69! I am going to do something about this! read more

Everyone that we worked with was friendly and helpful, from the receptionist, to the optometrist, to the salesperson that helped us select and purchase my daughters glasses. They were great with explaining what was covered by my insurance and how much it would cost out of pocket. We were in and out within an hour, and they had her glasses ready next day. Terrible customer service. Seems they are all stoned at this location - too many Xanax maybe?. Have been here before and same even with new employees... I booked one Dr as I had him 4 years before and then for some reason I got someone else. Why even ask which doctor I want to see. I figured it would be nice to have some consistency. Since my appointment was at the end of the day (well kinda 4:20pm) the staff acted like I was a pain to be there. And they acted the same to all the other customers. Maybe not a time thing. As we were all standing there as there is no seating while 1 person helps 7 and another 5 employees are doing nothing. All the customers there were joking and how laughable the CS was.. One lady that worked there was on Facebook app on her phone and could not be bothered to help anyone as she was like some Justin Bieber meme. Then when I wanted to use Care Credit which they accepted I was asked if I could please use another form of payment because it was not easy to ring up... A week later and still no contact which were ordered. I suppose I will have to call to check up on those.. I will follow up with the next visit... Update: over two weeks and still no contacts...
