I have used Visionworks in Tysons for years. I like Dr Kraft (the OD). That said for the last several years their selection and service has continued to decline. I recently (December 30, 2025) ordered a new pair of glasses through their insurance program as my current set was damaged. They said 2 to 3 weeks. Historically, they would deliver glasses in around a week to 10 days. Have been checking in since January 15 and have been told probably 10 times my glasses would be ready in 3 to 5 days. It is now February 5, 2026, and I was told today that my glasses weren't ordered until January 24 and they likely won't be ready until the week of February 16. The employees are nice but clueless. How can you say an order will be ready in 3 to 5 days for weeks and then tell me on February 5 that the glasses weren't actually ordered until January 24. All while I had spoken with them multiple times and was continually told the 3 to 5 days line? Meanwhile I am running around like a Cyclops with basically one good lens in my glasses. At least I am providing entertainment for my wife. I will be taking my future business elsewhere. read more

Pretty awful. Ordered a pair of glasses and was told that they would be ready in two weeks. I called multiple times and was told by the automated service that they were enroute and would be received in 3-5 days. After waiting that period of time and not hearing anything, I called the store and spoke to someone who told me that they were still being processed and wouldn't be ready for a couple of weeks. They couldn't explain the discrepancy between their system and the automated one. Regardless, had I known about the extended delay (because I actually need them now), I'd have gone elsewhere. I am very appreciative of the affordable selection of glasses. They have their glasses organized by shapes which made it very easy to find styles. The store was very clean and I was welcomed upon walking in. I asked for wipes to disinfect the glasses and were given a handful. I later noticed that they actually had wipes out for customers to use. A major plus for me. I was helped by Tameka and she went above and beyond to assist. They didn't take my insurance but because of her outstanding customer service, I bought the glasses directly. I am elated by the customer service I received. I received a phone call from Rosanna who left a voicemail and followed up the next day. She was able to process my warren. Update 07/25/23: This scam of a location is piss poor. Not only did they NOT tell me you have only 3 months to get fitted for your contacts you paid for, I have to pay for ANOTHER session even though my prescription is still current. Absolutely terrible. I came here last year for an eye exam and contacts. They convinced me to purchase a "back up" pair of glasses. I wanted something cheap and comfortable and I made a purchase. Dang near 300 bucks later, I now have a pair of back up glasses. I wear these glasses maybe once a week. Yesterday I did a simple lens wipe and the glasses outright snapped in half. I cannot believe that for the amount of money that I paid that the frame would just snap in half so easily. The glasses are still in immaculate condition otherwise... I called them up to see if something could be done but was told that I'd need to buy a brand new pair of frames (thank GOD they offered 25% off!!!). No matter the discount provided on a pile of garbage, it doesn't change the fact that they still sell you pure garbage. I'd avoid this place like the plague. read more

Horrible experience. I ordered glasses and after waiting weeks for them to come in, they were ready 2 days AFTER the day they told me they would be ready. Then I go to pick them up, and they give me the wrong glasses!! I'm not a big complainer, I'm not a jerk, and the lady who worked there was nice, but people depend on their VISION! I need my glasses. This place is a great one-stop shop for vision needs because they have tons of glasses and contacts in stock so you can get your eyewear needs immediately. Very convenient and they match competitor prices too. It was incredibly easy to make an appointment and the optometrist who gave his eye exam was really sweet. The service I experienced doesn't deserve even a one star. Ordered glasses in December 23rd. Had to follow up about 8 times including two store visits. Finally, on the last store visit when we called and check if the product was available and they said yes. This is on Feb 16th. We visited the store a day later to pick it up. The item wasn't available and they said they would place an online order. With all this, if you tell them if you're unhappy with their service, they say they understand and that "it's okay". I needed an eye exam and this place was close so I went. The front desk lady wasn't great, but that's fine. The doctor was great, very nice and professional. But my copay was supposed to be $15 and they charged me $34. Apparently an extra $19 for a picture of my eyes. They did not tell me I would be charged extra for anything when I first got there, I didn't sign any paperwork saying I would be paying an extra $19. With that being said, I probably won't be going back. Be honest with your customers, that's the least you can do. read more

Worst place ever! Doesn't deserve a star. I would give it a 0 but is not an option. The worst place you can go to get your lenses and glasses. Every year is a different bad experience. It gets worse every year. They are so irresponsible. Orders are either wrong or not placed, leaving you with weeks without lenses. Our first year the lenses were placed backwards in the glasses. How is that even possible? They inserted them backwards that the frame was bent out of shape! Insane, right?! The first year the dr (no longer there) misinformed us about my kid's contact prescription. This year, I Spent $2,000 for both of my kids exam and daily contact lenses. I feel ripped off. I tried Visionworks in Reston a year ago, but they closed down - so I came to Vienna. The staff are busy non-stop with phone calls and attending to customers under stringent COVID precautions. And while their increased workload created me to wait a little longer to be seen, the inconvenience was compensated with exceptional employees. The receptionist, Aaron, was friendly and attentive to all waiting customers. He was quick to spot a customer waiting that needed reassurance that they hadn't forgotten them. Dr. Davidson conducted my exam and I really appreciated that he took his time despite being overbooked with patients. He was friendly and knowledgeable. I will definitely be seeing him again. I ordered lenses and frames with another receptionist, Emily. A lovely employee that was also under pressure to answer phone calls, finalize paperwork and help customers. But she still kept a positive attitude with a smile that broke through her mask. I thank the staff for their hard work and a positive experience! read more

I followed Dr. Davidson to this practice. He is a great doctor who really knows how to take care of his patients and he is very specific about getting your prescription right. The front desk can use some improvement though. The woman that was checking me in asked for my birthdate about 10 times (I wish I were lying). She was also very passive aggressive. I kept looking at my Apple Watch because I was getting notifications and the woman said to me, "I'm sorry if I am wasting your time." Today I got a note in the mail from ups and they misspelled my first AND last name. Not even close!!! My choice given is to pickup in Springfield (10 miles) to pick it up or it gets sent back. REALLY? I go there not by choice but because of my insurance and location. I've been going there off and on for many years and many times they have lost my file. TL;DR Front staff are costing the great doctors business. Um, what happened to this place?!!!! I don't often leave reviews and when I do it's usually only to praise, but wow no! **Great eye doctors, my eye exams took 15-25 minutes with fitting? ***It took an additional hour plus*** for the front staff to process my payment because they were distracted talking, didn't know how to work their system, then drama ensued about a threatening person beinh outside, and yeah. They me and another customers left hanging that they left or were late getting to their kids. The zinger? 2+ months later, my order isn't in. I could maybe understand the hot mess service and drama of the day, maybe something was missed and they had to reorder. I would understand that, but no! When someone did pick up when I called, over a month ago, he told me they'd call me when they got in and hung up. Just that. Zero apology. Totally aloof. And I cannot get through the automated system because it consistently hangs up as I wait for a human to pick up just try to resolve this. Not worth driving there either, I don't want to waste another two hours of my life. And I can't get this order cover by my insurance elsewhere because I only get to use my insurance once a year to purchase glasses/contacts. So I'm screwed. Beyond disappointed and frustrated. It's been over two months since I came here for my order to come in. They are paid for, still not in! You can't even get the front desk to pick up the phone. I don't even want to bother to drive there because I'm sure they'll make me wait 20+ minutes like they did for everyone the day I went in for my appointment. When they did pick up, over a month ago, I asked if they were shipping it to me because it didn't ever take this long and I've been coming here for years. Response: we'll call you when they arrive. It sounded like he hadn't even placed the order. The doctors are fantastic, but the front desk is definitely lacking. Everything from ignoring customers to having personal conversations and turning to customers looking confused at why they are there, saying "I'll get back you", and then continuing to chat. Going on their cellphone and walking away leaving another customer who said they would be late if they didn't get to pay, to wait another 10 minutes. I had to keep reminding the person helping me to help that customer so the customer could leave. He couldn't because he didn't know how to work the POS system. When the cellphone talking customer service person came back, instead of helping us finish, she talked a lot about someone threatening her because she stopped him stealing the sample frame and now he was apparently outside. Okay, please can I go then? No, the guy stopped helping and joined her, and they went outside to look Over and over. Even after the police arrived all the customers still had to wait as they were super distracted just recounting over and over. I understand needing to call the police and locking the door. But it was like the 2 stooges/dramatic reality stars were on duty and they did everything else but to return to their jobs and give customers who had places to be, good service. Like wow! In a really bad way. I can't even get an update (or refund) because no one ever picks up. And I can't even get what I need to see and my insurance can replace it because they covered the order! Like. I really want to like this place, but the service has been eyebrow raising. I recently ordered a pair of glasses for my son and was surprised at the unusually high cost, but it was late and I had to get out of there, so I just paid it and reviewed the invoice later. Just to get myself some peace of mind, I contacted my insurance company to confirm the items listed on the itemized bill, and I was informed that a few of the charges were unnecessary. I called VisionWorks back and asked them why the extra charges. They explained that they billed me for (1) higher quality materials for the glasses, (2) a warranty on the glasses, and (3) the eyeglass care kit. First, I didn't ask for higher quality materials; I asked for the same materials that were in my previous pair; and if they did upgrade the materials, they should have asked me if I wanted the upgrade instead of charging me for it without my consent. Second, They should have asked me if I wanted the warranty, instead of charging me for it without my consent. I would have explained that I do not need a warranty, I already pay for the high option on my vision plan which covers the same issues that their warranty covers, thus making a warranty purchased through them duplicative and unnecessary. Third, I have always received a complimentary eyeglass care kit (spray cleaner & towel) from other eyeglass doctors. This is the only place that charges you for this. While it is inexpensive, I feel that when the attendant handed me the eyeglass care kit, she should have offered to sell it to me. I would have said "No thank you, I have plenty of this stuff at home". I thought I was being given the standard complimentary packet, but I later realized that I was billed for this. I spoke to them and straightened all of this out two weeks ago, yet as of today, they have no status update on when my glasses will be ready. What is going on over there?? I'm not upset, just annoyed. From this point forward, I shall make the trek out to my previous optometrist for my family's eye care needs. read more

This is not a real optometry office, this is a retail store. Everything the doctors say and do here is to make a profit off of you. They do not care about the health of your eyes or you! Sadly, I have stayed at this establishment for far too long, only because it was convenient but it's not worth it. They try to upcharge everything! Since I was 18 or younger I have been coming here even before they changed the name of the store and rebranded to Visionworks. Every year I would ask about LASIK options and every year the Dr. told me to wait until I am 25 so my eyes would "stop changing". Well I've had the same prescription since I was 18 but now that I'm 25 went back this year to ask about LASIK. Instead of giving me any helpful information at all the Dr. tried to persuade me to wait. I thought I understood his concern about my eyesight changing during my "development" stage...even though I knew others who got LASIK as young as 18 years old...now I'm starting to think it is a scheme to keep me as a paying customer at this establishment. There is an obvious conflict of independence as the Drs here seem to be making commission off their patients' glasses/contacts. I will be switching to a real optometry practice. My health should not be at the expense of your bonus. read more

My insurance company switched in the last year and they gladly took my new information over the phone... without telling me it wouldn't be accepted or that coverage had changed. Had to pay $120 out of pocket just for the exam and was told there's nothing they can do. Unethical. When I came in for an eye exam and to buy glasses in early 2014, the computer systems were "slow" so a routine glasses purchase took over an hour. Additionally, the doctor was fine, nice, and seemed knowledgeable, but encouraged me to make a purchase with their optical department (and used word choice that made this seem like a given), instead of just giving me my eyewear prescription to go elsewhere; this essentially removed the "independent" from his nature as an optometrist. If these were the only issues, I would still have given the location at least 3 stars. The prices were fair and the doctor was decent. However, I recently moved out of the area and I requested a copy of my prescription. They will not mail copies of the prescription to you as a patient. They will fax a copy of your prescription to an optometrist, however they will not fax your entire eyewear record without an authorization form. This makes sense given that it is part of your medical record, but here's where things get really sketchy. You have only two options for authorizing the release of your optometry medical record: 1) Coming into the store to fill out their records release form. 2) Receiving the form to fill out via fax. They will NOT email or mail you a copy of the records release form. When I asked why they couldn't email me the form, the attendent said "we don't have email yet." She actually said "yet." Because in June of 2015, that's reasonable, clearly. She even laughed in agreement out how ridiculous a thing this was. So to sum up, if you are no longer in the DMV and you need your record to go to your new optometrist, there is nothing you can do unless you have a personal fax machine to receive their records release form. Either their employees do not have email accounts (unlikely), or they have no personal agency and desire to help clients, most likely due to a corporate policy that prevents them from having email accounts to lock you into the Visionworks system. To me this seems to be the most likely case. Do not go to this business unless you are sure you will never want to leave and go to any other optometrist. And a tip for everyone who goes here: Ask for a complete copy of your optometry record at the end of every visit. By keeping it on file yourself and keeping your copy of the record updated, you will save yourself a ton of hassle if you ever leave the area. And you'll save yourself a trip to the store if you ever decide to go with a different optometrist. read more

I rarely write bad reviews, but you should be ready for some unexpected costs if you're planning to visit this office. Be prepared to be treated like an ATM rather than a patient. I chose this particular location because of the excellent reviews on Dr.Kraft. Lady at the register also assured me they do retina screening, which includes eye dilation and check-up. However, Dr. Kraft said he doesn't provide such a service. I've been told that my retina is 'excellent', which isn't accurate because I have a history of retina detachment on both eyes, an eye surgery two months ago, so usually optometrists have a lot of questions about my retina. I've been charged $19 for this 'advanced screening'. Also, I've been diagnosed with astigmatism, and Dr. Kraft asked me if I want to try out lenses. Eventually, I got a prescription for the same lenses I wear for five years, without astigmatism correction, but have been charged $70 for 'evaluation', as it turned out at the register. Thank you very much: I've shared the information with my insurance provider, they launched an investigation. Everyone at the location is friendly, but I am very surprised they are still operating because there are so many fantastic ophthalmologists nearby. This is not the kind of service you want to experience. If you decide to visit the office, please ask them to provide information about charges in advance, so you won't be surprised at the end as I was. read more

In my case, I have to say that the front desk staff have been very helpful , flexible and attentive in providing me with my appointment and helping me with getting the specific contacts brand that I need . And every time I come to my appointment , I have been seen almost right away , maybe 1-3 min wait time. I have seen Doctor Burton Kraft for almost 6 years. Doctor Kraft has always provided me with transparency about my tests and has always been welcoming to receive any questions and address them thoughtfully. He is the best ! My family of four all wear contact lens and glasses. We've all been going to Visionworks for a few years, and have been very pleased with the experience. First, Dr. Kraft is the best optometrist I've ever met. He's friendly, knowledgeable, prompt, and provides thoughtful suggestions and advice. My daughter recently got contacts, and one of the staff members sat with her for an hour to ensure that she knew how to put them in and take them out. Second, the opticians are very helpful in helping you pick frames, and go over your lens and extras options thoroughly. There's a bit of an attempt to upsell on unnecessary options, but they don't persist if you decline. Third, the front desk staff is very conscientious about ensuring that you get maximum benefit from your health insurance. If something is covered, they try to tell you in advance so you aren't shocked by the final cost. Fourth, Glasses and contacts have always come in quickly and correctly. The frames and lenses are of above-average quality, and there's a great selection for men, women and children. Fifth, the store manager runs a tight ship, and it shows. All customers are greeted promptly, and the store is impeccably clean and organized even during busy times. read more

Three (actually more) strikes and you are out! I had my glasses here in 2014 and contact lens in 2015, and now I realize how unprofessional they are. I had my routine exam in 2014 and Dr. Kraft gave me the glass prescription, which is totally wrong. I have anisometropia of 5D that any other OD would suggest me contact lens, Dr. Kraft's glass prescription made me too dizzy that I cannot even bear putting them on. In 2015 I went for contact lens (I must be crazy). Still Dr. Kraft. The fitting process was long and he seems to be patient. I did ask that whether I should be considered as medical necessary contact lens for my anisometropia, and he was like 'no, do not even bother to try your insurance', so I paid ~$600 out of pocket. But I found he was ABSOLUTELY wrong, again! Last week I called my vision insurance to see when can I get new supplies as they are running out, and they told me I should DEFINITELY have been considered as medical necessary and insurance could have got me 100% covered! Oh, not mention that the staff ordered me wrong contact lens twice: one in trial, one for my finalized contact lens prescription. I have lost count of how many wrongs they did to me, and they lose their customer. I suggest you that avoid this place and see other doctors/providers covered by your insurance, unless you want to try your luck. read more
