I had a great experience at Eyewear Gallery. Dr. Dawn is amazing and very friendly. She always takes the time to answer my questions about my test results and explain what everything means, which I really appreciate. The staff was also helpful and welcoming during my visit. There was a small issue with syncing my previous exam records, so they had to contact support to get it resolved, but they kept me informed and handled it professionally. The email notifications could use some improvement--the scheduling link in the email went to the wrong system--but the scheduling link on the website worked perfectly fine. I didn't buy new frames this time since my prescription didn't change and I'm still happy with my current pair. They do have a wide selection of frames, and while many lean toward the expensive side, the quality looks good and there are plenty of nice options to choose from. Overall, a positive experience and I'll continue coming back. read more

I just popped down to the Eyewear Gallery because the nose pad fell off my glasses. I am an occasional patient here, but I didn't even buy this particular pair of glasses from them. They weren't technically open, but they let me in anyway and popped a new nose pad in for me in under 2 minutes. Wouldn't even accept payment! FABULOUS customer service today. read more

To the point that I will likely switch practices after many years even with the best service and care by Dr. Dawn. They use an app that completely missed my request. I called and discussed and canceled my appointment on that call. Not a friendly call. The app then acknowledged the cancellation 4 hours later, after the originally scheduled time. Since then I have received 3 requests by email as to how I liked my appointment and asking do i need a followup. Couldn't see how to stop it on the app and remove my data. Dr. Gammon is fantastic! My eyes have complicated issues; Macular surgeries, cataracts, etc. Ophthalmologists have sent me to other optometrists but none have produced the same degree of correction in my glasses as has Dr. Dawn. Absolutely wonderful experience from the greeting at the front desk, through the exam and then the eyeglass selection and fitting. My wife and I came in together and despite it being one of the busiest days of the year with so many people using up their insurance benefits, the entire staff was extremely kind and patient. My husband and I have been coming here for eye exams with Dr. Gammon for over three years and are happy with her. However, every time I called or had any interactions with her staff they had been rude and condescending. I brushed it off because the location was convenient for us and the doctor herself is pleasant, but we will no longer be customers here. Today I simply called to order contacts and while inquiring about my insurance benefit, one lady said she didn't know details. I called back after I checked myself and got a different person, a more competent one, however she said rudely to me "listen...listen...I have people waiting, these are your benefits, what do you want to do?" As most of the negative reviews here on yelp say, the customer service here in nonexistent and extremely unprofessional. I think the owner needs to do a training session on proper phone and in person etiquette. If you are too busy to assist, how about a simple "can we call you back please?" For such a "high end place" I would expect stellar customer service. Unfortunately this happened before many times. Last time I was in, the lady that I was handed off too after the exam was extremely rude. When I simply asked to tell me my frame benefits, she actually said that there is nothing here that will be the price point of my benefit. I said fine, show me higher price frames, I'm ok with paying more, and she huffed and puffed, and said they don't have what I'm looking for. She didn't even bother because she thought I was not spending enough money there? I had enough of her attitude and went to LensCrafters, where I had amazing service! This place with its great location has great potential if all the staff is replaced with competent, trained employees, who know what customer service is and provide it to the people who are paying $500-1200 for a pair of glasses! For now I rather take my money elsewhere, and unless you like being treated like shit by Dr. Gammon's staff, I would advise you to do the same. You can get a simple eye exam without the attitude pretty much anywhere else! I'm no longer a customer here, and hope that Dr. Gammon realizes that she is loosing customers due to her poorly picked and untrained office staff, who need some serious training in proper etiquette. read more

Loved my first visit to The Eyewear Gallery! They had great COVID precautions -- wore masks, kept their distance, took my temperature, and had ample hand sanitizer (including giving one to me which I love because it's the spray kind. Wish I had this earlier in the pandemic!). Dr. Gammon was very nice. She made an effort to get to know me during the appointment, which I feel is uncommon during medical appointments. She referred me to a retina specialist for a specific issue, and the specialist was also great, so I'm glad she referred me there. For many years I have walked past this eye glass gallery while shopping in Reston Town Center but never went in. But recently I needed a new pair of glasses and I have a very small face for an adult. So I decided to walk in. What a wonderful gallery. The selection there is first class. It is a little more expensive than other dispensaries but the uniqueness of their frames is great! Jenn and Jenny both helped me find a great pair of glasses that I absolutely love. They were friendly, professional and fun to work with. I spoke with Dr. Gammon a few weeks ago on the telephone and I want to clarify a few comments and facts: Regarding Dr. Gammon's statement, "On your original purchase from our practice, you were given a 20% military discount ($180 in your case), which is our customary policy for all military members and veterans." This is not true - I was actually given an Out of Network Ins. Discount of $156, not a military discount, since The Eyewear Gallery was unaware of my military status at the time I made my inquiry. Dr. Gammon's statement, "There are numerous internet sites to buy glasses. Unlike buying clothes online, where the worst that can happen is a poor fit, glasses made incorrectly may cause permanent consequences (i.e. car accident or injury from a fall) and providing a measurement to an unknown outside source puts us in the chain of liability." Though I agree there could be issues of liability, should an internet provider make an error, my experience buying glasses online has been favorable. Dr. Gammon provided me with my RX after I provided her with a signed liability release form. Regarding Dr. Gammon's statement, "As far as Wiley X is concerned, our dealer agreement with them prohibits us from discounting their product to anyone. Doing so is considered a breach of contract and we can lose our dealership status if we offer and advertise any discounts." Yes, this probably true, and is why I asked for my RX so I could order directly from the Military Exchange retailer after The Eyewear Gallery said they could not match the Military Exchange price. In closing, I recently received my pair of prescription Wiley X XL-1's from the Exchange for less than half the price it would have cost me at The Eyewear Gallery. The fit is great, the prescription spot on! :-) The Eyewear Gallery is a boutique shop, delivering first class service and products. However, the service and quality products come with a high price. The saying "you get what you pay for" has merit here, however I question the over-all "value" since a pair of prescription glasses at The Eyewear Gallery will probably cost you double if not triple the price of pair of similar eye glasses at Costco that will do the job satisfactorily. If you have deep pockets and want absolutely the best glasses that technology can buy, then by all means consider The Eyewear Gallery, you won't be disappointed. Three Stars .. Dr. Gammon reached out to me and I got what I wanted in the end...however the overall experience could have been handled a little better by asking a few questions about the customer and presenting options versus the "it is what it is mindset", at least for this particular transaction. Hopefully my next experience with The Eyewear Gallery will be much improved. read more

This place is as good as it gets. I'm not easily impressed, and have only passed out one 5 star review before now. But that's how great I think this place is. Dr. Gammon is phenomenal, I've never been so impressed with an eye doctor before in my life. She uses cutting edge equipment, and will genuinely look out for you. Amazingly thorough! Dr. Gammon is amazing at what she does and really takes her time with you. She answers all your questions, and if she doesn't know, she'll be honest and look into it. The staff at Eyewear Gallery are equally amazing! They all are experienced which really makes it well worth it and unlike those run of the mill eye doc places, these cats actually care. I needed to get a lens reset in a pair of RayBan sunglasses I purchased two years ago from Sunglass Hut. I initially went to SH to get them fixed, where I was rudely brushed aside by the manager- she expressed that the repair was a quick fix- but I was silly to think that she'd be able to accommodate me on a Saturday. My mistake- I thought that a $210 dollar purchase warranted some sort of customer service. Regardless, I looked elsewhere for my repair. I work across from the Eyewear Gallery, so one day on my lunch break I decided to stop in and see if they might be able to help me. Let's just say that the service was exceptional. I shared my story of the chain's lack-luster customer service and poor attitude, and they were eager to help me. They fixed up my glasses like new in under five minutes. The staff were very pleasant and held a good conversation, ver personable. About a month later, I had crushed my precious RayBans yet again- I know I need to be a little more careful with my glasses. I stopped in the Eyewear Gallery again, and they quickly remembered me. I felt ridiculous being back so soon for a similar issue. But none the less, they reshaped my frames and secured the lenses. They showed me some newer models, a little more durable, and let me know to stop in whenever I needed. Great service, and I will definitely be shopping for my next pair of sunglasses there. Needed to see an eye Dr, for a new pair of glasses. then found a killer dealfind deal in my in box. Called a few times to ask questions as Reston is not that close to DC. Cameron could not have been more polite or helpful. Answered my questions and addressed my concerns. Once I set the appointment and made my way out to the appt. Both Cameron and Charlie were friendly and helpful, After a few minutes Dr. Gammon walked in to get me for the appointment. She was very friendly and put me at ease right away, She not only checked my eyes for the new glasses prescription but gave me a contact eye check up to and gave me a pair of newer lenses to try out. I had been using 1800contacts and they never even asked how long it had been since I had actually gone for an appointment. less than a week later the office called and my glasses were ready for pick up, They really could not have been nicer or more professional. OK, I'll say it...I can be a difficult patient. Eye doctors ask me to read the letters, they all look blurry, and what do you do? Guess? Not if the practice measures throughput by number of patients seen and not by patient satisfaction. Then about 18 months ago I discovered The Eyewear Gallery and Dr. Gammon. Let me tell you, I'm glad I did. Mega-outfits like Hour Eyes may be convenient, but they really lack the personal touch. You feel more like an item on an assembly line than a human being. In fact, just two weeks ago I went in for a regular exam, new glasses, and new contacts. Dr. Gammon was beyond patient with me and, I think, really went the extra mile. She picked up the beginnings of an eye infection that she confirmed today in a follow up. I really doubt a high-volume practice would have bothered. She is a good doctor and I have no problem bringing my family to see her. The expertise doesn't end with Dr. Gammon. The staff is also incredible. I know nothing about frames, what to look for, what looks good...NOTHING. Both Cameron (last year) and Rachel (this year) were incredibly helpful and patient with me. Two weeks ago Rachel patiently helped me look through frames that would be flattering and stylish. I couldn't be happier with what she helped me pick out. Lastly, contacts are easy here. I had my contacts order two days after I walked out of the door. If you are looking for great care with a very personalized touch, definitely give Dr. Gammon and The Eyewear Gallery a call. I got a preliminary exam for contacts here and everything went fine. I didn't look closely at my bill when I paid though. I later noticed there was no explanation of how much was billed to my insurance on the recept and called to verify it had been billed correctly. The guy I talked to on the phone was extremely condescending and told me my insurance had been billed the "appropriate amount". When I asked if I could get a printout that listed the total charges and how much had been billed to insurance he responded with with "we don't really have that information." I wonder how they keep their books without knowing how much they bill to whom. There's a reason that information is the default on every other medical and optometrists bill I've ever received - if I can see the numbers I can verify I wasn't over charged and that they didn't bill my insurance for services they didn't perform. I can't think of any non sleazy reasons to hide that information when a customer asks for it. The billing sleaziness is irritation enough for me never to do business with them again. It was the bonus condescending attitude and rudeness that motivated me to leave this review. read more

Let me split my review into 3 parts: 1) Rebecca - I have worn glasses for the last 40+ years of my life and, obviously, have worked with numerous opticians, optometrists, ophthalmologists, and associated co-workers/colleagues. Over that time, I don't think I've met and worked with anyone quite as dedicated as Rebecca (one of the opticians at The Eyewear Gallery). She spent a tremendous amount of time help my wife and I review options, even with my extreme prescription. She was courteous, kind, and patient, despite how busy the day was (it was a Saturday). She was willing to provide her opinions, but also was very understanding on what we wanted. If you visit the Eyewear Gallery, definitely see if you can work with Rebecca. 2) Dr. Gammon - I've worked with Dr. Gammon a couple of times now. As noted above, I have a fairly "severe" prescription that's required some special attention over the past many years. Dr. Gammon has been a good resource and has been very thorough in her examinations and recommendations to me. She has provided a number of options and clearly is very well-versed in her practice. I'd also recommend Dr. Gammon if you need an eye examination. 3) The rest - So, I had to make a separate visit to order my glasses and Rebecca wasn't available that day. Unfortunately, that made my experience a little less-than-stellar. The other folks involved were helpful, but also distracted and thus, I didn't feel like I was able to make the right choices for my frames. Additionally, I wasn't sure why my costs were 4 times that of my wife's glasses - they weren't very clear as to the impact of different add-ons to the overall cost. Also, due to a printer error or something, I was never given a receipt so that I could verify what was ordered. Though I am not suggesting it was "shady", it was very frustrating. I'm still waiting for the receipt so that I can review with my insurance as to what was ordered and confirm if I really needed all of what they added. read more

I had the most pleasant experience here on Monday night! I came in with two pairs of glasses (purchased elsewhere) that were broken and needed repairing. Within 15 minutes, Larry had both pairs fixed and cleaned and didn't charge me a cent! I often can be wooed by a good showroom and while this showroom is undeniably small, I will definitely visit here the next time I need a pair of glasses. The service was FANTASTIC! Eye exams are one of those "just gotta do it" routine annual chores for me, so I appreciate the ease and efficiency of both doctor and staff. The office location is convenient for a lunch-break trip and the doctor is obviously an expert in her field. Staff is knowledgeable and easy to talk to, and the store is trendy and modern. I'll be the first to admit that I'm cheap when it comes to glasses, so I don't see myself buying any frames here, but they have a beautiful selection of designer brands and contacts are reasonably priced. read more

I had a horrible experience at hour eyes last year and it resulted in a pair of glasses that were painful to wear, even after many trips to have them readjusted. Turns out, I am not great at picking out frames, and I received no help wahtsoever by the sales girls that helped me. This year, I decided to try the eyewear gallery because they help you choose frames. They were wonderful! First, Dr. Gammon was terrific and very knowledgable during my exam. She even thought it would be a good idea to dilate my eyes later so I can pick out new frames that evening. Maryanne, who helped me selecting frames, took into consideration my face shape, skin tone and personality. She chose the frames I decided to go with, and we even did a little customization. I came in for an eye exam with my husband. The doctor and eye exam was pleasant, but the guy in the front handling frames and insurance/payment was the opposite. He made us wait 30 min after the exam to "check out" so he can take care of people who wanted their frames fixed. All we had to do is pay and leave, but he ignored us as we patiently waited for him to acknowledge us. I was growing impatient and nearly walked out without paying. I decided not to give them any more of my money and cancelled by contacts order with them and I will never go back. Don't waste your time or money at this place. Not sure why my review is "not recommended", but I spent time writing this for the benefit of other consumers and my experience is legitimate... After being dissatisfied with an eye exam at my ophthalmologist, I decided to give the Eyewear Gallery a try. Reston Town Center is my favorite place in all of NoVa, so I look for excuses to shop there. I also wanted to avoid the large national optometry franchises and get more personal attention. Anyway, I didn't know what to expect, but wow, what a great experience. Dr. Dawn was thorough, professional, unrushed, and highly attentive to detail. I had been anxious about my eye health, but she put my worries to rest with her diagnostic skills and calm demeanor. And for those of you who care about fashion, they have a unique selection of frames from lesser-known frame-makers from around the world (I picked out mine from a very cool Barcelona-based line). On top of all that, there was a mix-up with my insurance (the error was on my side), and the store could not have been more accommodating. Bought from them a pair of Silhouette glasses with titanic frame for computer work for $560. Repaired broken "super strong and flexible" frame three times during four years. Broke again -- no support in the store. They chose not to be responsible for high price crap they sell. Manager was unprofessionally rude and totally not helpful. Not using this store again. My husband and I have been going to the Eyewear Ballery since April 2012. We both bought wonderful glasses that have style and look really good on us. Most recently, my husband lost his glasses and needed a stronger prescription. As is their custom, the staff at Eyewear Gallery responded by carefully helping my husband select the glasses which he might like best. Just put yourself in their hands. I'm one of those folks who has a hard time with eye drops, and I have a somewhat complicated need for glasses that suit both screen and reading. Somehow these folks manage to get it all right and I always feel comfortable there. They have endless patience for people taking a long time to choose the right frames. If the prescription isn't right the first time, they will make the necessary adjustments with no argument. It's a small shop, not a wide selection, but a very good one. Turnaround might take a while, depending on whether the frames are custom-made, but it's worth it. I've had two pairs of eyeglasses made over the last four years and have been able to pop in to have them straightened and adjusted with no problems. I like that I can look around on my own, but then put myself in their hands for the final choice. Good teamwork among the staff, offering opinions about frame styles and materials. My insurance covers over 50% of the glasses, otherwise they would be unaffordable, but I've been able to purchase really nice eyeglasses for about $400 or less, with insurance. read more
