My 85 year old mother moved in earlier this year. It took us a couple of months to understand what…read moreis provided in an Assisted Living environment and what we needed to stay on top of on our own. The staff was patient and responsive, and now Mom has settled in nicely in her one bedroom apartment. We like the fact a nurse is on for 2 shifts and an assistant nurse for all 3 (during the late night shift the nurse is on call). Mom has a pendant she just needs to press anytime she needs assistance, and so far someone has been at her door within minutes. They provide laundry service (although residents can do their own if they like) and many other amenities such as assistance dressing and showering. The activities have just started up again. The food is outstanding. There is an extensive menu of items offered daily, as well as specials offered each day. They will tailor the meals for anyone having dietary restrictions. The monthly rent is around 7K, that includes meals, nursing, emergency button use, activities, cable, and other items. It's a relatively new building and is always clean and bright inside. The location is perfect, with Lowell General Hospital just down the road, and Market Basket and Marshalls are quite close, also. Compared to the other 2 Assisted Living options we investigated in the area, Saab was the best fit for Mom. They also have a plan where after paying 2 years of rent, should finances become such that she cannot pay any longer, they reduce the rent to the amount of social security less medical expenses. No apartment move is required. This is a huge plus as its an expensive option, however, good to know if times get tough, Mom won't get kicked out. The Director, Candace, runs a tight ship, is responsive and deals with any issues immediately. Kelly, the Resident Care Director, is also super responsive and is the type of person who gives me comfort Mom is well looked after. Randy handles the paperwork and billing and is always so pleasant to deal with. Moving a loved one to an Assisted Living environment is stressful, however, the team at Saab was always there to coach and guide us through the process and protocols. Mom is treated so well there, I highly recommend Saab to anyone looking for an Assisted Living facility.

Employees !!! The staff is professional w each resident…read more Everyone is well groomed and dressed for the day. They have three meals a day plus a snack in the afternoon. They have entertainment, music, dance, exercise on a daily basis for the residents. The place is very clean asvi have seen the staff cleaning floors, etc on a daily basis. Very happy we have a family member living here knowing he is receiving great care by the staff.

Severely understaffed for the increasing needs of the residents. Advertise 2.5 personal care…read moreattendants (RCAs) per wing but you are lucky if you can find one. Staff are off the wing in activities or attending to the needs of residents in their apartments leaving the majority of residents alone in common areas. Personal care attendants change frequently so there is little room for relationship building between the residents/family and there is little overall work experience/training. Though the gardens are lovely there are not enough staff to escort the residents to the garden or sit with them outside. Activities/Entertainment is only available to those residents who are comfortable leaving their living area and attending large group activities in a large common activity room. Residents need to be escorted to and from activities by an RCA which does not allow residents to come and go freely from activities or participate at their own level. Though Bridges states that activities are held on the wings, they are of poor quality, not stimulating, very infrequent and not conducted by trained activities staff. There is no parallel programming so when a resident is not able to participate in the larger activities there is nothing available for those left behind. The dining experience is lacking, very noisy and cold. There is nothing to absorb the sound created by serving and clearing the dishes. The utensils are too large, the glasses and mugs are too heavy and there is no consideration for color contrasting that is needed for individuals with dementia (everything is blue). If a resident has an unsteady hand or diminished strength they would find it difficult to comfortably use the items provided. There is no consideration for using table clothes or any other table decor to decrease the noise or add to the overall pleasure of dining. Scraping dishes and running the dishwasher next to the residents while they are still eating and socializing does not make a pleasurable dining experience. The lighting in the residents room need improvement. There is only one dim ceiling light. Lots of extra lighting needs to be brought in by family members which leads to safety hazards for the residents. There is little individual attention to laundry causing items to shrink or get lost. There is nothing personal on the walls where the residents live to celebrate their lives such as personal photographs, art work, birthdays, seasonal decorations, sports memorabilia etc. The atmosphere is very sterile. The only display of creativity is in a small area outside the residents living space. How does one know what month it is if there are no seasonal decorations or calendars? Not enough items to orient or bring forth memories for an individual with memory loss.
