Ascent took the reigns and kept me updated with everything from the time they arrived at rehab to when they were on their way to my dads to when they arrived home. Hey made the process easy. My mom came to live here after the last assisted living home could no longer provide adequate care…read morefor her. You can tell that Elmwood Terrace cares for their residents. So far, every time I've visited, they were either making popcorn for the residents, helping them shoot basketballs into hoops, and engaging in conversation with them. I feel my mother is much safer here, and better taken care of since it is a nursing home, and there are nurses, CNAs, and workers everywhere. I was told that they even buy little Christmas gifts for their residents. How thoughtful. I notice that my mom isn't as anxious at this facility than she was at the last home. I think because there are so many people everywhere, she isn't left in a quiet room by herself. There are 2 residents to a room. My mom's roommate just happens to be a woman who was with her at the last assisted living facility. So I'm thankful she's with someone she recognizes. The place may not look fancy, but they are well taken care of here and that is all that matters to my family and I.

They said they didn't stop her antidepressants and then I heard someone in the background saying we'll have to get a doctors order for that. Same thing with checking her blood sugars.

While some of the individuals were so nice and helpful for every one nice person there were multiple individuals who were unable to do what we needed. We paid for 24 hour care, out of our own pocket, and at one point one of the workers fell asleep while we were paying him. At one point they sent a lovely young lady that was expecting, but could not lift my dad to go to the bathroom. I then had to perform her job duties for her. I was also disappointed that we were charged AFTER my father passed THREE extra hours. When we called to discuss charges we were told that's what we signed up for and they were already giving us a "deal" and if we didn't pay they would send my mother to collections- which is not what someone with a dying family member needs to hear. I would suggest taking your business to another company.

I live in Arizona while my father is in Illinois, so with no family to help and the current "shelter in place" due to COVID-19 I am not able to be my father's caregiver. I first became acquainted with Home Instead when my mom gave up her drivers license 4 years ago…read more She still wanted to remain as independent as she could be, so we looked for a caregiver who could drive her once a week to grocery shop and do other errands with her. I interviewed many agencies and felt that Home Instead was the best fit for her. Since then she has had the same caregiver come every week. The caregiver is a lovely person who has really come to care about my mom. Earlier this year my mom fell while I was out of town. While I was still at the airport to fly home, I called Home Instead again about what her options could be.
