Avery's Masonry Chimney Work & Repair

Brendan is a chimney-building legend. We came to know this 'master of masonry' as the result of…read morehiring a contractor who thankfully subcontracted his work to Brendan and Avery Masonry. If you're like us, you've dealt with countless contractors and various other tradesmen who want to take shortcuts, are untrustworthy and try to overcharge you just because they can. Brendan is the opposite of all those people. Not only did he build our chimney perfectly, oftentimes working into the early evening and on the weekend, but he made suggestions through out the project which were better for us -- and made him LESS money. He took the time to ensure the area was neat while building and after his work was complete; he even brought a power washer on the last day to power wash the whole area! Brendan is a rare find in an industry where many are, sadly, unscrupulous and untrustworthy. He even came back after we paid the final payment to do some additional work -- just because he felt it would make the chimney work better. When was the last time you had a mason, electrician, plumber, landscaper, etc do something like that? Exactly. We give him our highest recommendation and encourage you to hire him for your masonry needs.

They worked competently and with care. They then proceeded outside and set up a ladder against my very high chimney. When I went outside, I found Miguel high up on the ladder and Brendan perched on top of the chimney! It was a sight to behold! Afterwards Brendan said he did a couple of mortar repairs, cut off the very top of the flue so it would be even with the chimney, and installed a cap. Both men then came back inside and patiently repointed the bricks inside the fireplace hearth. Brendan is knowledgeable, skilled and personable. He is generous with explanations. And he has an outstanding helper in Miguel. Everything was done efficiently and neatly. I couldn't be more satisfied. I recommend Avery's Masonry wholeheartedly.

I screened over ten contractors before hiring. He provided me one of the best estimates even though it was over my budget. I actually knew of John's company from my time living in Woburn as his house was not too far from my old house. I can't say enough good things about John. He has been in the construction industry for over 50 years and his attention to detail is evident when speaking with him. Most general contractors/builders try to rush to get the job done so they can move on to their next project. Not John. He and I were in constant communication and he made sure I was happy and informed on progress. He has a few guys Rocco and Gary who are very nice, hardworking, and amazing craftsman. John's subcontractors for framing, roofing, siding, insulation, plaster, concrete, flooring, all did a great job too. The work was professional and clean. As the owner, even John got his hands dirty in building my deck and used his tractor to excavate the deck footings. I highly recommend John's company for any construction and renovation work on residential and commercial properties. I already have him on call to do other work on my house and will recommend him to family and friends. Thanks John.

He never showed uo on the day he was supposed to do the job, never responded to my texted or called to inform me. He responded 2 days later, said that he had orher job need to finish. He showed up late on weekend to go with me to buy materials and he went home and showed up next day to do the job. He keeps delaying the job. Henry showed up late and working not professionally, slowly get it done because he complained about how old the house is, which the same with every house. Lacking communication, very unprofessionally. At the end, i asked him one more step, adding tiles for my bathroom which is small bathroom and only half tiled. He complained about the old house and it took his time alot. He installed my toilet paper holder wrong side and place without asking me where do i want to install. He argued with me, blamed me because i did not verbally let him know first. At the end of the day he texted me and asked for 3k3 total which i was mad and asked why just added tiles and 2k more. He told me because it took a lot of his time, it was hard to install since this is his job to find a way to install for customer. I refused to pay and he refused to give me a good explanation why that amount. I would never recommend this guy if you dont want headaches and bullshit. Literally a scam, always blame customers but never see his unprofessional side!!
