We have been taking our pets to Vista for 3 decades. Dr Privette was so wonderful and always took his time treating his patients with kindness and compassion. After his retirement we noticed a change in the way service was offered. There was no longer extra time given to our pets and it became clear that their business model is based on productivity. Our English Mastiff as a result now has fear anxiety as a result of his experience with the staff where non existed before because they tried to force a muzzle on his face that was meant for a much smaller dog. So they gave me the oral medication and told me to give it to him. (Of course charging me the same as if they had treated him) Most recently my 18 year old cat became very sick during the night. At 7 am I called to get him in for emergency treatment. I waited on the phone being told by a recording the I was number 7 in the queue until finally, as I worked my way down the queue, they answered. I explained the situation, my cat has never been to any other vet in 18 years that he was extremely ill and I needed to bring him in. I was told they had no more openings for emergency care, period! I ultimately took him to the pet emergency clinic in Pasco. I lost my beloved cat that morning. This review isn't a result of one incident but rather a consistent clear change in how Vista Veterinary clinic operates at every level. It's turn over of doctors and its lack of compassion and level of care from the staff. So after 30 years we have made a choice to take our pets somewhere else. read more

Our family lived in the Tri-Cities Height (built the third house in 1955), so Vista Vet was only 2-3 miles away to service our dogs and cats. We started with Dr. Evans, then as he expanded the practice, he added Dr. Bill and Dr. Rob Privette. I recall in the 1960's our blue point Siamese cat Tauna had a crush on Dr. Bill; he had a beard and she hated to go to the vet, but as long as Dr. Bill held her, where she would rub her head in his beard, the technician could give her the needed shots, then Dr. Bill would put her back into her carrier, when she started meowing loudly again (she had a true deep, loud Siamese meow so it was very noisy and didn't stop until we were in the car). So cute! She didn't have a crush on Dr. Rob, so those visits were very loud, and she was always trying to get away. We always asked for Dr. Rob! She lived 18 years as a member of our family. I moved to Richland in the mid-70's and changed vets. I have no idea who any of these vets were over the decades, but I do recall Vista Vet very well. They took care of our pets from cradle to grave, with the utmost care and attention to detail. I have no doubt the current owners provide the same level of service. read more

I've waited 5 years to write this review to make sure our cat was still alive. Our cat was laying on the ground acting abnormally so we brought him in. Turned out to be a bladder infection. We get to the exam room and the Veterinarian makes his entrance. He's got his top button undone and what's that he's got there? Is that a little glimmering gold chain? Why yes it is. He proceeds to give his exam while I restrain our tom cat. "We're going to have to keep him over night." I don't exactly remember why he stayed the night but when I came back the next day to pick him up the front lady wanted payment first before I could go back to see our cat. $1200 Boom. Now I'm allowed to go get my cat with one stipulation. It was recommended he be fed a new diet of special canned food sold by Vista Veterinary Hospital. The cost would be ~$100 per week. When I asked if there was an alternative to this canned food diet the staff informed me I should consider "re-homing" him if he wasn't going to be on the Vet prescribed diet. We left. Our solution was to add a little water to his wet food and started letting him outside as much as he wanted. 5 years later he's still going strong. read more

I was told I could have a procedure done as a "tech appointment". No one suggested there would be a risk to the procedure being done. I took my dog today. My dog was clearly different when she came out and I asked the tech if my dog was sedated and she said no. I drove home and my dog became unconscious within 30 minutes of taking her home. I rushed her to the ER, she lost consciousness and died. I'm gutted I didn't get to say goodbye. I trusted so blindly and I wasn't even worried. I would advise against tech appointments on any procedure beyond grooming. read more

I have been taking my pets to Vista Vet for the last 10 years. I have brought at least 20 different pets to them despite they being more expensive than other places. I like consistency so therefore I just stayed with them. I have never complained beyond maybe a shocked look on my face when handed the bill. Recently, things took a turn for the worse with my eldest cat. He is 12 yo and he wasn't eating like he normally does, lost a lot of weight, drinking a lot of water and sleeping a lot more. So I took him in but the vet makes people wait in their car and they come out to discuss issues with the pet and swoop the pet inside and don't let you in. I understand, COVID-19. The whole process is sloppy and disorganized. But I get it...COVID-19, right? My cat was diagnosed with diabetes despite never being obese. They prescribe insulin shots but are sloppy with ALL details! For example: 1. What is the dosage? 2. How often do I give it? 3. Before or after eating? 4. Under the skin or in the muscle? All they did was call in the scrip to a Walmart pharmacy for insulin ($100) and take my money ($300). No instructions, no pamphlet, nothing. I have never given a shot to anything. I am not even sure what to do but they say they can't help me by showing me how. I call? They hang up on me! EVERY TIME. I don't think these people know the answers! It's INSANE! I wrote an email asking for the records so I can change vets. Mind you, I PAID for these records. Radio silence. I am DISGUSTED with their behavior during this pandemic. I have utilized Vista vet for decades. Just like most places either it's going to be a good fit or a bad fit. They've always been a good fit for me and my pets. One of the best things I've ever heard from their front office staff say is that their doctors and staff look at your pets as if they were theirs. Believe me, they lived up to that standard. They have cried with me when I had to put my cat Tigger down. They have also celebrated with successful treatment that has saved my other cats. Their doctors take time to talk to you and like most places, especially a vet on Gage they send a tech to deliver their message. Their front end staff is also knowledge and if they don't have an answer they find it and call you back. Dr. Hamack does a great job explaining things and is always helpful! The vet staff is great with my dog aggressive dog as well. While we had our main household down in TC, this is where we took our dogs. Staff was always great, from the front desk to Dr. Privette. We got lots of good info all through our first family dog's life. When the sad time came to say goodbye, the entire staff signed a card and sent it to us, which impressed me. Granted, Holly had been going there about 9 years so she was well known and loved there. When we got two new dogs, the staff was great with them as well. My puppies live up in Spokane and I commute every weekend do to the crazy economy, but I would reccomend Vista to anyone here in TC. read more

They really are the best vet around here. They really care about animals. The only downside is that they are pretty expensive, but it is worth it for the best care for your pets. They also did not charge me for a follow up visit for my cat when he felt ill from his shot the next day so that was really nice. They only charged me for the medicine he needed that day. read more

I have brought my cat to Vista for the last three years to get shaved. Today was a horrible experience and will be the very last time I ever take any of my pets to this vet. $230 for a "wellness exam sedation shave and sedation reversal" I never asked for or agreed upon a wellness exam. All I scheduled today's visit for was a shave and I knew she would need sedation. They kept telling me I was showed an estimate when I dropped her off and I WAS NOT. I refused to pay for something I didn't ask for nor did anyone call me for permission. They took the fee off and said they didn't want me to come back. For a mistake THEY MADE. No skin off my neck. It's refreshing to find a vet who "get's it". We love our dog. She's our only child. But when things go wrong or we're in for routine check-ups it's nice to go to a place that understands that while we love our pet, most of us are not in a position to spend money on unnecessary procedures. Case in point, this past weekend I took our French Brittany out for her weekly run. Her weekly run could be defined as a "hunting" run as she is off the leash and on her own speed chasing rabbits and finding game birds. We were about midway through her run and I heard her yelp. Not uncommon as she's scraped herself before on bushes. I called her back, inspected her and didn't see anything, and she was off again. Upon completion, I was inspecting her a little more closely and discovered she'd hit a stick when she yelped and had a very small puncture wound. I got her home and got her cleaned up. Once her addrenaline came down from her run, you could tell she was in pain. So I was in a quandry. I didn't want to take her to the vet close to my home as they have a reputation for being over-the-top, but they opened at 8am and Vista didn't open until 1pm. Our dog was in pain, and I made my decision based on that. Arrived at the "other" vet office. The vet did her examination. Said she was concerned because there was swelling. Recommended that we leave her so they could sedate her, flush and dress the wound, and suture it. So that's what we did. My wife picked her up later that afternoon. She got instructions on pain meds and antibiotics. Was told to keep the "collar of shame" on for a few days, but we could take it off after that if our dog was leaving her wound alone. All was well until yesterday. Our dog was left alone for a spell without her collar on and she licked her 2 sutures out. So we took her into Vista this morning to have them check it and the vet said, she's good to go. She "wouldn't put sutures in her own dog" for that wound and that we just need to finish the antibiotics and she'll be good to go. Also, Vista did not charge us for the visit! So it really begs the question, if I'd waited until 1pm on Saturday, would I have saved myself $300, saved my dog the stress of getting sedated and just had the wound cleaned and dressed and put on antibiotics instead of all the drama prescribed by the other show in town? I have always taken my parrots to Dr. Privette at Vista. (Best bird vet for miles around)We already had a Doctor for the dogs and horses. However, our dog vet misdiagnosed my baby girl. We could tell something was still wrong. So, we took her to Dr Privette. He came up with a totally different diagnoses. And, she is doing so much better now :) The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is, they are on the high side of the dollar. However, they are wonderful. From the staff at the desk to the Veterinary Assistants, all great. Not to mention Dr. Privette, he is smart, caring and professional. I totally appreciated his compassion. I'm a bit of a nervous mom, he was understanding :) My girl is a smushy face breed and they are known to have problems with being put under, .It takes more caution than other breeds. He knew this and had a plan in place for them. Lets say, Dr. Privette will be my dog vet from now on. We are in good hands, I'm sure! read more

Dr. G and Dr. Meyer are the most compassionate and thorough veterinarians we have ever had. They took amazing care of our cat in her last days. Dr. G tried everything he could to save her and give her a great last month with us. Dr. Meyer came in after hours to help us say goodbye when we knew Ruckus was in pain and needed to be put down. I would give Vista Veterinary Hospital zero stars if that was an option. I took my very sick cat in today only for them to charge me over $70.00 to "guess" she may have liver disease. They wouldn't take payments to, quite literally, save her life. They did, however, suggest I "conveniently" apply for financing (right there in their office) and estimated it may cost $1,500 to $2,000 to save her. When I couldn't finance through their suggested finance agency, they suggested I find "a less expensive vet". By this time, I was in terror. So I took her to Dr, Emma Lantz at Animal Hospital Of Pasco, who not only treated her, but diagnosed the real problem in a matter of a few hours. It turns out that she was jaundice (liver problems) from not eating and she had stopped eating because she had (very painful) pancreatitis. They found the problem using ultrasound. Things the doctor at Vista Veterinary Hospital neither mentioned or offered. Finally, pancreatitis and jaundice were taken care of with food, antibiotics and pain meds. Certainly not costing $750 to $2,000! Dr. Lantz also cared enough to take time and teach me that cats can get jaundiced, easily, from not eating. And that eating is more important to cats than drinking. Things I didn't know. She was also extremely caring and very compassionate. A footnote to this story: The next day, I was able to bring my cat home and was able to pay off the entire bill with cash. The bill came to a little over $500, 1/4 of what Vista Veterinary Hospital estimated the bill could be, terrorized me, put me through Hell and turned my cat away for. I found a vet for life and it wasn't this one! Money matters most to heartless people. I love my cat and it looks like she will be okay now. What a great Veterinary practice! The staff is wonderful! I have taken all of my dogs, to include a working dog, to Vista Vet for numerous reasons. I have never been dissatisfied with their service or abilities. My working dog was diagnosed with a liver disease that led me to WSU Pullman for further testing. Dr's Batdorf, Meyer and Stidham all checked up on my dog and my family. They were there and supportive when I had to make the humane decision to put my partner down and end his suffering. They cried, when my family cried. Their pricing has always been competitive and they understand that every budget has a limitation. They assisted me with aquiring and using Care Credit and help me with obtaining 0% financing when the bills become steeper than I can pay immediately. The staff have always been friendly and we usually enjoy a good laugh together when I come in with one of the "kids". I recommend Vista Vet to anyone who expresses a need for a competent Veterinarian that won't require a 2nd mortgage on your house. They are compassionate, honest, upfront and professional every time I've been in. read more

November 21st, 2018: Due to a seizure disorder and hip dysplasia, our dog was on a variety of medications for many years. Vista was the only veterinary clinic he ever visited. Our dog was always kept current on all of his shots and boosters (Rabies, Kennel Cough, etc.). His last wellness check was during the summer of 2017. This visit proved to be so painful for him, we knew we would no longer be able to physically transport him to the vet. This was communicated to the vet numerous times when we would pick up medication and when we brought in our other animals for wellness checks. On November 19, I called in a refill for seizure medication. On November 20, we received a message that, if we signed a waiver, the doctor would do a small refill and that we needed to bring my dog in for blood work. I called Vista Vet and spoke to someone at the front desk that did not identify themselves. This person told me that the form could be emailed to me so I provided my email address and asked to make arrangements to have the doctor come to my house since getting my dog into the car was too painful for him. We were disconnected at that point. I tried calling back multiple times but was only able to reach voicemail. The office, who had my name and number did not return my call. Not only that, the form was NEVER sent to my email address. I ended up stopping at their office the next morning to sign the paperwork and set up an appointment for the following Monday. Moving forward a couple of hours, our dog fell at our house and was not able to get back up. His hip dysplasia had gotten to the point that we knew that we needed to make the difficult decision to have him euthanized. I immediately called Vista Vet to make arrangements for them to come to the house. I was told it would not be possible until the following Monday but we could bring him in and they would take care of it. Since it was the day before Thanksgiving, and we did not want our faithful companion to suffer for five days, I found some left over pet sedatives from a prior prescription. Knowing that getting in a vehicle was extremely painful for our dog, we chose to give him two sedatives with the hope that he would sleep through the car ride. When the sedatives kicked in, we created a sling and loaded him into the car. Even with two sedatives, our dog was in so much pain that he started nipping. My thumb was a little too close to his mouth and he scraped a tooth along it, drawing a little blood. When we arrived at Vista Vet, I went inside and asked for a gurney so we could bring him in. I explained that, even though he was given two sedatives, he was still in so much pain that he had nipped me. When a human being or an animal is severely injured or in extreme pain, it is a natural instinct for any living creature to protect the area that "hurts." Our dog did not "bite" me, he nipped to discourage me from touching the area that was painful. After about 30 minutes of the front office discussing this with the vet, they came out and told me that they could not euthanize him due to the fact that I had been scraped by his tooth and that he needed to be in quarantine for 10 days (in case of rabies) before they would euthanize him. Our dog throughout his lifetime was never a nipper or biter. They told me that it was the law and sent us on our way, with artificial apologies. I looked up the law, WAC -246-100-197, 8 states "When a local heath officer receives a report that a mammal has bitten or otherwise potentially exposed a person to rabies, the local health officer -MAY- institute any or all of the following: a) Order a heathy dog, cat, or ferret to be confined in a manner the local health officer considers appropriate and observed daily for at least ten days with any illness reported to the local health officer, and if the sign suggestive of rabies develop, order the animal to be euthanized and tested for rabies." Our dog was STILL up-to-date on his rabies vaccination, and was NOT due for another rabies vaccination until December 21, 2019! Vista's staff didn't think to look at his medical chart, they just reacted without thinking. He spent most of his time in the house, only going out to his fenced kennel when we were at work. The law says "MAY", it does not say "will" or "the health officer is required by law". According to the Washington State Department of Health, the last suspected case of rabies in a dog occurred in Pierce County in 1987. We were there to stop the pain that was inflicting our dog. We looked to you for help. You failed our beloved dog in the worst possible way and made an already very difficult decision even more painful. Way to drop the ball, Vista Vet. When our beloved pet needed you the most, you turned your backs on him. We will NEVER bring a pet your way again and we hope to dissuade others from doing the same. My puppies came home happy and healthy. However, their dog beds were totally loaded with urine. My puppies only piddle on their bedding as a last resort--which means they were not given sufficient nature breaks. I always wash anything--including the puppies if they/it gets soiled. Vista Vet did wash the puppies at the end of a long stay, and returned the beds, smelling to high heavens, in a garbage bag. I immediately put everything in the 2-1/2 hour power wash cycle, with lots of oxyclean. It's a shame that Vista Vet doesn't pay attention to this rather large detail--don't they have large washing machines??-- otherwise it was a very successful stay. read more

Pet stores sell them far cheaper then vets. I have never used one on my dogs, why ? because they paw at them. Bitter Apple works best. Simply spray a little around not on the wound, you friend will love you more and leave the wound to heal. If your dog is happy when you got he/she home. Then you have had success. A good vet or good kennel is hard to find today ! read more

I would absolutely recommend Vista Vet to anyone. We've only been going there for a few months, but hands down has been the best vet we've ever been to! We started going to them simply because our vet wasn't open on a holiday weekend, but are so thankful we found them. One of our dogs was critically ill at the time and needed immediate care. Dr. Meyer did absolutely everything she could to make sure he was taken care of and got him the help he needed even though the procedure was outside anything she'd done before. Most vets would have turned us away in this situation, and several already had. We decided to continue taking him there because of the amazing service we received, and began taking our other pets there as well even though we don't live in the immediate area. The office staff is great, and within a very short period of time knew exactly who we were as soon as we mentioned our dog's name. Everyone there loved him and took great care of him at every visit. When the time did come to say goodbye, Dr. Meyer and the staff went above and beyond to make the terrible situation as easy as possible and showed us amazing compassion in the process. We will forever be grateful! We have also seen Dr. Stidham and Dr. Batdorf for our other pets and have nothing but great things to say about them as well. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would bc Dr Meyer deserves it. We were patients for 2 years. To make a long story short during that time she begged us to allow her to be our repro vet so we did. She was nice and young and hungry. As time went on she cared less and less about our business (we spent the 3rd most in an entire year of any patient at that office.) Once we started having litter after litter of bulldogs die we asked to see the procedure notes. She made changes to them after the fact and then abrubtly told us we were no long her clients..... her highest paying clients. Does that make sense.
