This review is for the Danville office. They had me playing waiting room bingo for over 2 hours past my appointment (for a 30 second injection). They kept calling people back who got there after I did, and when I questioned this, the employee got in my face and another rolled his eyes at me. I got fed up, told them where to stick my chart, and left. I doubt I''ll go back, as this is just another terrible example of the state of healthcare in the US. I had an active kidney stone, and my pain level was around a 6 out of ten, but they don't care. They just overbook appointments, and let the patients suffer in a dark waiting room being tortured by HGTV. If I have a 1 pm appointment, I expect to be seen at 1 pm, not nearly 4 pm. There should not be one phone number for all Vistar Eye Center locations. Been waiting since November 18, 2025 to schedule cataract surgery. Called, found out the surgery coordinator was replaced and unable to get new phone number. I am disgusted with Vistar. read more

Called made a appointment then called next day to get a appointment at a different location took almost 30 minutes to get to someone and spoke with a man that just wanted to talk over me I will never try to go there again and would strongly advise nobody to deal with people like that I've never been talk over like that and wouldn't let me speak I'm done sincerely William Wallace read more

A family member visited the office due to eye problems. The doctor was so nice. He explained options in layman's terms. He answered all our questions. The desk staff was incredible. They helped me with a wheelchair and pushed it for me. I appreciated the kindness of everyone. read more

Never answer phones and do not call back. Also, very limited as to what insurance they will accept. Look for another clinic for your eye care. read more

I have have worked with two different ophthalmologists at Vistar and the care they have given me has been excellent. That said . . . The automated customer service system is horrible. Trying to reach them by phone is horrible. Ditto their on line form submission. Ditto their online form. A few days I received a message that I had an appointment coming up and was asked to re-register at their revised patient portal. Okay. I entered my info and they sent me a PIN via mail and asked to go back to the main registration page and hit continue . I did but it didn't take me to a page for validation but to the sign in page. I tried it again withe the same result. Then I tried their online page form and haven't heard anyhting back. This morning I tried to re-register on their website. I received a message that I should contact the office directly. Okay. I tried that and was put on hold. "Due to unusually hight call volume." After 10 minutes I still hadn't talked to anyone, I had no idea how long the hold might be or where I was in the queue . Oh yea - Ialso heard heard their robo message five times telling my how important I was AND (now get this) telling me I could alway get information by registering at their new stae of the art on-line portal. Corrective repair eye surgery. Much better but needs more time to heal with eyeglasses.

Went to my routine, annual check up last year and it went fine. Fast forward a year later and I'm getting a bill for $227. I call to find out what happened and they explain that when I originally was in last year they tried to bill my VSP insurance but it didn't go through so they billed my medical insurance which was Anthem. They said that Anthem just let them know a year later that they wouldn't cover that service. Fine, but in speaking to Brenda today I was told that Vistar also tried to bill VSP last year twice and again last month. She told me that VSP said that I wasn't in their system. I was on the phone with Brenda for an hour explaining that I don't have VSP anymore but that I did at the time and I begged her over and over to please try to bill again. She told me "that wasn't her job" and that someone from billing already tried and that now I just owe $227. I begged her to call the person from billing because there must be a mistake but Brenda continued to try to bully me into believing I owed this money. Thankfully, I called VSP myself and didn't take Brenda's word for it. VSP explained to me that not only had no one even attempted to bill me but that no one had ever called on my account to verify anything like I had been told had happened. I spoke to multiple reps at VSP who confirmed that every phone call for any account is recorded regardless if billing has been done. They let me know that there was no possible way that Vistar had ever contacted them regarding me. I called Vistar back and suddenly I don't owe anything! Now all of a sudden they are saying that they never tried to bill through VSP only Anthem. Now they are running it through VSP and I don't owe a cent. I don't know why Brenda would have lied to me for an hour saying that I don't exist in VSPs system. I don't know why she would've said that they've already attempted to bill VSP when they hadn't. I don't know why it was so important to her for me to believe I owed $227. I can only imagine what she's getting out of this type of situation. I spoke to her supervisor who didn't seem concerned at all with Brenda's tactics. Seems this is business as usual there. I'm so glad that I'm not a vulnerable adult who may have been bullied into paying Brenda hundreds of dollars. I hope that you keep a close eye on any dealings you have with this company. read more

The wait to see a doctor is rediculous, even early in the morning. They should have more respect for patient time

Dr. Albright was recommended by my prior ophthalmologist after he retired. My issue is not with his capabilities but it concerns the number of times over the past several years my appointment has been changed to suit him. It was changed twice this year! He has a lot of patients and it can take 6 months or more to get an appointment. That is why I make an appointment for the next year before I leave. The date they offer doesn't always work. They sent my appointment change via mail. That is ridiculous as well. I know he participates in a lot of athletic events and I applaud him for that. However since these events require constant rescheduling of his patients he should retire and leave ophthalmology to the physicians who care about their patients. I have resolved this aggravation for myself by changing doctors. read more

I do not like writing a bad review. However, I have been a customer of Vistar Eye Center for 40 + years. Please note I do understand about COVID causes problems with appointments and cancelations. Covid has almost gone away and now we should be thankful and put our best foot forward. NOT Vistar Eye Center. No excuse for rudeness over and over. Calling up and leaving a message that your appointment is for tomorrow and when you try to call back on hold for 1 hr. or more. At the time they finally answer it says they will have to call back to reschedule and then the rat race starts. Finally, get an appointment and they say this is right after Dr. lunch at 1:30 and i will get in first. 2 hours later still waiting. Go and say I have another appointment and the Dr comes in and says I have to make another appointment to come back. I am so disgusted with my surgery, the rudeness, and the incompetency. I will not ever use Vistar Eye Center again. I called another Drs office and interestingly I got an appointment the most important part. She said they look forward to serving me. Before I end my review only one person with Vistar tried to help and Annette in the contact lens dept said she was so sorry and seemed interested and hated my experience. Billing department is not professional. Although I gave them the information to my vision care plan they chose to bill Medicare. When I called to ask why bill was not summitted to my insurance, person was very rude and was positive it had been summitted so I ask to who and was told they billed Medicare. I explained my Medicare plan did not cover vision and that was why I had a separate plan. My carrier tried calling Vistar but was put on hold and after 3 minutes had to hang up since can not wait longer than that. They gave me an authorization number and told me to give to Vistar. When I talked to my manager she refused to take the number. After several weeks I called insurance carrier to see if ever summitted and told they had not received it. I waited until I got a second bill and called Vistar but had to leave a message. I also went on line and asked simple question if they summit claims to specific group of if patience is to summit. I got an automated reply stating would receive an answer within 24 hours. After 24 hrs and no call back or email, I called again and got my "manager". She researched and said my visit was not covered by my company therefore they would not summit it. I asked to speak to the manager and told she was my manager. I have now gone to my HR department to get help in summitting my bill. Not sure why Vistar says they are in the network of specific companies if they are not willing to work with the patients in getting the bill paid. PS Dr was very good and the person with eye center was helpful in getting my glasses but I would not recommend anyone in using Vistar if they have vision insurance. read more

I arrived for my first appointment this morning that had been scheduled weeks ago to find that the office was closed. When I called, they explained that they tried to send me a letter in the mail to tell me that the appointment had been rescheduled but that the letter had been returned- they clearly had the wrong address on file. They made one attempt to contact me and on the voicemail, there was no indication that the appointment was rescheduled, only that they needed to send me the paperwork. Given this poor experience and lack of care, I will not be a patient of this office and have canceled my "rescheduled" appointment. You all seriously need to get with the times-- have you heard of email? read more

I had glasses made up using the facilities at the 707 location 2 years ago. When i received the glasses they were unusable for anything but long distances and even though ground with a bifocal i could not read with them. They told me i had to take them anyway and i would adapt to them. They never became usable and my eyes were under a constant strain. Vistar is supposed to be a reliable company so yesterday i went back for a new examination in an attempt to get a usable pair, Everyone was very professional, friendly and pleasant the entire 2 hours i was there. There were no long waits and everyone seemed to know what they were doing but the longer i was there the more aware i became they were following a script just as they are supposed to. They were screening me, collecting the information the doctor would need but unable to answer any questions that i had, I let it ride because i understand they were just lab technicians but when i posed the same questions and concerns to the doctor it became obvious there was nobody in the building qualified to address any medical issues with my eyes and the unusable glasses could only be replaced at my own expense, The doctor was gracious enough to say that she would make my records available if i chose to seek a more competent company to deal with. If all you need is a new set of glasses they are about as good as anyone but if you have a medical issue you might want to look somewhere other than the 707 facilities. read more

I had my eye's examined at Vistar Eye Center on Jefferson St. in Roanoke, Va., and used the. prescription to order two pairs of glasses at the cost of $700. When the glasses came in it was clear that the prescription was very wrong. I went back to Vistar for a recheck, and the woman who re-examined my eyes acknowledged that the first technician had done the examination incorrectly. She re-examined my eyes. I took the prescription, and the eyeglass business graciously made two more pairs of glasses from the replacement prescription. These glasses were also unusable. I subsequently had my eyes re-examined again by an independent optometrist who confirmed that the second Vistar prescription was also incorrect. I called and spoke to an administrator at Vistar. He said that he would tell Dr. Tims so this would not happen again. Whaaat? I asked for a call back and got no follow-up. BEWARE of letting poorly trained technicians at Vistar examine your eyes. Neither examination was verified by a physician, and I'm out $700. Bad job Vistar. That's an abysmally low standard of professionalism, and a terrible way to treat your customers read more

Do NOT get your eyes examined here if you need a standard exam for glasses or contacts. I spent 2 1/2 hours in the waiting room and got a expensive medical exam instead of the simple exam for glasses I asked for. The staff are nice enough, but I wasn't planning on an medical exam copay plus not having time to order glasses or at least get the measurements I needed to order glasses online. Sitting here at the Peters Creek office 55 minutes past my appointment time with no indication of getting out of here soon. Receptionist said there's only one doctor here today. Waiting rooms are packed full of people as if we all have the same appointment time. Last month when I was here I was seen by the doctor 2 1/2 hours after my appointment time It seems at Vistar, if you do not have a PhD, your time has absolutely no value. If you enjoy being treated as if you're worthless and enjoy waiting hours due to over booking appointments Vistar is for you! read more
