I have taken a handful of BSL classes in my life and unfortunately this one did not pass the bar.

In order to assess his level of interest, I downloaded the trial version of an iPhone game/app called Code Spark Academy. This app allows the user to create the intricate details (levels, rewards, etc.) of a game and then play the game. During this time I noticed that his traditional games and even television shows were put on the backburner. While driving through Elk Grove I noticed a new (at least new to me) establishment called Code Ninjas. I immediately found their website and saw that they offered a coding camp based on the popular platform Roblox. Thankfully, the class was being offered on a day that fell within my son's holiday break. Before registering my son for the class, I ran it by him and he enthusiastically said "YES!" After submitting the payment information, I received a welcome packet from Code Ninjas (outlining the facility rules) that I quickly completed and submitted. The morning of the camp I packed a lunch for my son (Code Ninjas does not provide lunch), and we hit the road! After being warmly greeted by the employee at the front desk, I signed in my son, kissed him, and sent him off to explore the world of coding! When I arrived to pick him up, he did not want to leave. Aside from putting the finishing touches on the game that he created for Roblox, he was "networking" with his fellow coding camp buddies. During our ride home, he could not stop talking about the coding camp. He explained to me in detail the game that he created and that his game was saved so that he could resume the modification of the game upon a return visit. I highly recommend Code Ninjas for any parent that has a child that expresses interest in coding. Yes it is a bit pricey ($89 for the coding camp), but it will definitely pay off (literally) in your child's future! I am already planning on registering my son for the Minecraft Coding Workshop. Thank you Code Ninjas!

I wish there were more places to take the kids that teach them fun, hands on, real world skills. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this if you are a parent that has a child always wanting to play video games/Fortnite and can't pull them away from the screen! This will definitely make them appreciate all that goes into developing a game. I can't speak much to this part, but it even looks like they have a camp that teaches how to code drones that they can fly around.

Adj: Treasure Trove of Yummylicious Yarn and More!…read more Another incredibly special and quite exclusive store in Sacramento that I somehow have only visited once or twice long ago, and which I've not really appreciate until now. I'm so glad that I have finally paid a meaningful visit to Rumpelstiltskin Yarn Store recently. Rumpelstiltskin, located on the R St corridor, is quite a long-standing establishment in Sacramento that has been providing the Sacramento fiber art community with supplies and knowledge for over 50 years! Rumpelstiltskin sells a wide selection of high-quality yarns, fiber art tools, and other supplies for crocheting, knitting, spinning, and weaving, so there's definitely a great variety of products offered here for various interests. Perhaps because the skill level of my two fiber art hobbies, crocheting and knitting, are quite elementary and have not improved much over the years, I've so far had all my yarn needs met at the more conventional arts and crafts stores of the big box variety. But as I am getting more serious about my yarn hobbies, I'm now interested in finding stores that offer more specialized products and even provide classes that will help me improve in my crafts skills. I am also looking to connect more with the fiber art community in Sacramento because my venture into joining that community so far has shown me how warm and welcoming fiber artists are and it is totally possible to learn from seasoned hobbyists and pros/teachers if one puts their mind to it. I've even connected with some very local yarn enthusiasts at my local library and I'm sure they all have visited Rumpelstiltskin. On this visit, I saw lots of exclusive brands and types of yarn made of much better material than I'm used to using. From basic wool to more specialized Merino, Alpaca, and Shetland, there were many different kinds available. One I particular liked was the cashmere wool which felt heavenly. I learned that Rumpelstiltskin makes it a point to partner with fiber farms and other small boutique fiber suppliers to source yarn and other fiber products that are not only exclusive, but that are truly local and US-made as much as possible. Rumpelstiltskin even shares the stories behind each brand they carry and even hosts "Farm to Needle" events to introduce some of their thoughtfully curated products that are specially selected for their quality and uniqueness. As such I noticed that the prices of their products are definitely several times higher than that of regular arts and crafts stores, but again Rumpelstiltskin sells really high-quality yarns and supplies. I did not have any questions for staff during my visit, but I saw a class taking place and noticed that besides the looks of concentration, it was smiles all around as everyone was really enjoying their class, so I'm also going to look into taking a class or joining in one of Rumpelstiltskin's events. Just from a quick glance at their website, I see offerings of beginner's knitting classes for adults and kids, an embroidery intro class, a felted slippers class which sounds super interesting and practical, a sweater class for those who are ready for bigger projects, and even basket coiling, spindle spinning, spinning wheel, and weaving classes. Besides the classes that have costs associated and private lessons for those who want 1:1 instruction, there are also monthly and periodic free knitting circles for kids and social stitch events. I did not interact with staff today, so I can't speak on customer service, but maybe on a future shopping trip, I'll hopefully be helped if needed. In short, Rumpelstiltskin really is a wonderful staple in the Sacramento community for fiber art beginners, hobbyists, and pro-level enthusiasts alike and I'm so glad I know more about Rumpelstiltskin now so I can feel comfortable to come back for higher-quality yarn and supplies for more serious projects as well as for classes and events to connect with our local fiber art community.

On top of that, I've been coming here for years and been met with nothing but experienced, thoughtful interactions that help me to complete my projects! Independent yarn stores are a dying breed. I urge you to support your local economy and put your money in the pockets of REAL people, not Joann, not Michael. Rumpel FTW

I had a bikini show coming up…read moreon Saturday and two days before the show, the people who were supposed to do my makeup called and told me they didn't have space - I was screwed. How was I supposed to do my makeup with my fake dark show tan? I didn't even have those colors in my day-to-day makeup bag. I had heard of Ginger Wong or Transformations Makeup from Mellisa Paul at Sac & Co and thought I would give them a try even if it was last minute. Ginger told me she was going to be out of town on the day of my show, but she didn't give up on me. Instead she went out of her way and agreed to meet me the day before to teach me how to do my own makeup for the show. I emailed her photos from previous shows so she could see the look that was needed and how dark my spray tan would be -- and she took it from there. The day before the show, she was extremely patient during my lesson and re-applied my makeup until it was exactly how I liked it, then showed me how to do it myself. Because I'm picky this process took a couple of hours, but Ginger didn't care. She said that we would do it until I was comfortable. She wouldn't be happy until I was happy. She also had me bring in my own makeup and brushes to see what I already had, but anything I didn't have (and liked) she had there for me to purchase from the Muse line that she uses. No pressure to buy at all which was nice. I was able to mix a little of my current makeup and only bought the stuff I needed. I was very impressed with the customer service I got from Transformations Makeup and how they went above and beyond to try to help me out of my sticky situation. I now know how to do my own show makeup, but more importantly, I know I can trust them to do a good job with my makeup for any special event I have in the future. Ginger Wong and her makeup artist team at Transformations Makeup really are the best professional makeup artists in Sacramento.

The tools in the wood shop are great, and the instructors really know their stuff. What's more, those guys sure know how to keep a sharp edge on their equipment. Tuition is, in my opinion, up to what one would expect to pay in today's economy, especially considering that everyone is scrambling for cash to stay afloat, even the local government and its affiliated programs. The registration process on the archaic website is a touch on the byzantine side, though. It looks a lot like the very first website I ever coded when I was 16 years old. Uhh, now that I think about it, it looks like the website I designed a few years ago. But I'm no web designer, so hah! Point being, you're gonna have to dig around a little bit to find what you're looking for, but once you've found it, the actual act of registering for a class is pretty straightforward. Now, back to the woodworking instructors: Between the Bill and Dave, they've got about 70 years experience, 20 fingers, 20 toes, and 8 eyes (they both wear glasses). So I trust them to teach me the ways. I don't know if I'll ever be able to snatch the pebble from their hands, but I'm confident that they're showing me how to keep all my phalanges and body parts so that I could snatch that pebble, even if only in theory. I plan on taking many more courses here, especially in the "Working with Wood" category of classes. Now go forth and learn something new!
