Okay. It's been about three weeks since I got my haircut at Vito Pini. I specifically looked online and chose a place that was using high Covid precautions since I am immunocompromised. So I was surprised to get there and find nobody masked and they told me they didn't care whether I wore a mask or not. Inconsistent with their website. But airflow was good so I stayed. I was given a really good shampoo by Kylie. Genuinely, a great shampoo. Then I went to Doug's chair. I'd told him I wanted a layered bob. It's a pretty standard cut so I didn't feel like I needed to bring pictures. I've had this cut multiple times before. So... imagine how surprised I was when Doug felt my hair, told me it was a terrible texture, and that it wouldn't hold a curl (it does, I just use product) and layers wouldn't help (um, what?) and I'd problem never have anything fashionable (dude, it's your job to GIVE ME THAT) and so he was just going to cut a regular bob. The problem with a regular bob in my hair is that I have fine hair but I have A LOT OF IT. Like, a ton of it. So it winds up looking like a giant chunk at my chin. Layers allow it to have volume at the crown and look sleek at the the chin. But, again, Doug said I had terrible texture hair (he repeated this, so I'm sure to remember it) so he didn't cut layers. Doug managed to cut my hair in a grand sum total of eighteen minutes, showed me the back of my head, and said it was done. Things most hairdressers do that Doug did not: ask you how long you'd like your bangs to be (I would have liked mine shorter), check to see if the sides are even (they were not), and ask at the end if you like the cut (he just showed me the back, turned the chair around, and took off my smock. I was gobsmacked.) He then showed me the product wall and recommended a mousse. I haven't used a mousse in ... literally years... but I bought it because, I dunno, I was in a haze? The whole thing made me insane? And wouldn't you know it, the woman who checked me out charged the tip on both the service AND the product. So we're talking about a tip (that I KNOW I shouldn't have given) added to a $70 haircut and a $39 can of mousse. Friends, I went back two days later and returned that unopened mousse and had them refund the tip. I will say that Tracy, who I dealt with then, was very pleasant , and offered to cut off the rat tail in my hair. You see, as per the pictures attached, there was a two inch long section that Doug missed when cutting my hair. I assume it was from being tucked in the mask... but maybe it was from being a quick haircut. Or from not giving a shit because my hair was such a terrible texture so he had zero interest in seeing me again. Either way... I let Tracy know that nobody at Vito Pini had to touch my terrible textured hair. I cut off the little leftover bit and I'll take my hair elsewhere in future. read more

I had four different colors in my hair and a lot going on, but Doug was able to do a color correction and it turned out beautifully. I just received the most amazing customer service. Went in for a back to school cut for my son. He has ASD and can easily become overwhelmed. Kylie was perfect with him. She was steady and soothing and didn't seem to be at all ruffled to cut a kiddos hair who had his chin buried in his chest. I've always been happy with their services. Alden cut my sons hair. Worst experience of my life and worst experience my child has had ever. Alden, who says has 26 years of experience He was harsh in mannerisms, absolutely rude and unprofessional, rushing the entire time and kept pressing down on his head while also cutting and nipping my child. As you can see on the pictures this was horrific. He kept blaming my child and raising his tone as if his shaking hands were my child's fault, who was not moving except when he clearly was hurting his scalp. At the end of the horrifying cut Alden also had the audacity to charge me an extra $10 for a $20.00 hair cut. (He wanted $30 for this mess) I can't express enough how much I regret going here. The anger I still feel over this experience. The manager gave me a refund. Offered me a half priced hair cut for myself with owner. I decided against doing any future business there. First off, I am not going off willy nilly writing this review without trying to resolve this with the salon so that is important to note. I called the salon twice and left messages. I also sent an email. I believe after 3 attempts to rectify this issue, they more than deserve this review. I googled "salons in denver that do Perms" and a few places came up, one of them being Vito Pini. I called and made an appt and was told that a consult was required before they could schedule me for this service. I totally understood this, perms are hard on your hair so they in theory want to make sure your hair is a candidate for this service. I arrived and my hair was deemed more than healthy enough by Doug the owner. I also showed Doug 5 specific pictures of the type of curl that I wanted to accomplish with said perm. My hair was washed, product was applied - a diffuser was used to dry it a bit and also put a product on it was supposed to keep the curl. At this time there really wasn't much curl but I assumed that once my hair dried more the curl would appear. I purchased from him the product he advised left. To my horror when my hair was dry it was not at all curly but rather straight with a few weird kinks in it. It basically look like I went to bed with wet hair and never took care of. I tried not to panic, followed his instructions of waiting 48 hours to wash and prayed the curl would appear. I styled it exactly how he said and my hair looked even worse. It is now breaking off and I look horrific. He won't return my calls and I was very polite in both my voice mails and email. read more

I just moved to Denver and wanted to change my hair color and needed to get a cut. Debated whether I should go to the school across the street and be cheap or bite my lip and go to a higher priced salon. I bit my lips and made the appointment at Vito with Alex. Alex is great, once she saw the picture of the hair color (balayage/ombré) of what I wanted done, she told me what I could do and what to expect and what not to expect. This is where a star was deducted... The appointment was est for 2/3 hours but ended up being 5 hours! Receptionist should've known what to ask for when a client wants to have something done. Alex did tell me that it'll be longer than 2/3 hours. Overall, I love how my hair color turned out (still a shade darker then I wanted but still LOVE it) and my cut is how I wanted it. Worst haircut ever!! Doug, the owner, talked me into a perm. I take full responsibility for being stupid enough to agree to a procedure right out of the 80's! Without consulting me Doug cut the length off of the back of my hair. When I went in it completely covered my neck and now it is all gone! I went back the next day for a conditioning treatment to try to relax it and Kylie, who applied the treatment, left it on for a very short amount of time, it basically did nothing. I essentially was left with a haircut resembling Bozo the Clown!!! Doug seemed very hands off and not particularly concerned with how much I disliked the cut. Each time I have gone to this salon (I like to give it more than one chance), I have had to wait more than 20 minutes (sometimes up to 45 min). Even though I had an appointment. The receptionist didn't even give me an update of how long it would be, that they were sorry for the delay, or anything. Since each time I went I was either getting a full head of extensions or extension maintenance, you would think they'd treat their customers a little better. If you're going to spend $1000+ on a service, you should be getting better service than this. I am pretty appalled by the chip on their shoulder. However... Finding a good, trustworthy stylist is one of the most difficult things for a woman to find. Being new to the Denver area I wasn't sure where to go or who to ask for a recommendation. Only after a bad experience at another salon did I end up at Vito Pini. I originally stopped in to inquire as to whether or not they had a shampoo that could tone down my overly-processed, overly-bleached botch job. They were very friendly and one of their stylist's, Monica, actually came over and took a look at my hair to see what the issue was. She suggested a toner and some low lights, but I was wary of spending another chunk of change after having already spent a good deal at the other salon. After speaking with Monica I decided to return to have her fix my botched color. She also offered to discount her services because she felt so bad about the bad hair experience I'd already had - which was so nice since I'd spent a good deal already and wasn't happy. She did a great job! And, because I was wary of ending up with my hair looking "over-corrected," she took a conservative approach, the results of which I was very happy with. I will defiinitely be going back to Monica - she's a very experienced stylist and excellent colorist who knows her stuff! The only drawbacks of Vito Pini are that their services (generally) are a little pricier and they carry very high-end products which again, are on the pricey side. Because my hair had been over-processed they convinced me to buy a $32 shampoo, which to be honest, I haven't noticed any difference from the $14 shampoo I normally buy. Oh well...you live and learn...I may not buy their products in the future, but I'll definitely return after the excellent service I received. read more

I can't believe that after you pay for a so called "top service" I had to go back home and try to unsuccessfully use chemicals to remove residuals from my face. Even though the haircut was nice I feel like they should either lower their prices or work towards service quality. Years ago I was traveling a lot, straightening my dry curly hair every day, and neglecting to take care of it. I dropped by Vito Pini for a hot mess hair emergency. Amy swooped me in and fixed me up. Amy's cut and color service was so good that I made the tough choice to leave my old stylist. She's been my stylist ever since. I've had facials and wax services from both Catherine and Mary Kate. Both are lovely ladies providing excellent service, using superior products. The spa rooms are clean, tucked away, and comfortable. Vito Pini has a modern casual feel. There is an excellent selection of vibrant hair color if you're wanting some edge. The mani/pedi service is not always available and colors are extremely limited. Be sure to schedule this if you want the service while you're there. read more

BE WARNED! We stopped in to get a haircut for my daughter. It was just a trim-nothing fancy. The stylist rushed through it to get to the next person in line and didn't even use any heat protection products on her. When we went to pay we were told it would be $70!! Their website clearly states the cost for a haircut is $45. When I asked why, I was told that the stylist they had given her was the owner, therefore it cost $70. We were never told this prior to the cut and it isn't anywhere on their web site. VERY shady and VERY poor customer service. We will not be back ever!!!!! read more

I was extremely hesitant at first because I am new to Denver and my first experience at another salon was so awful. I came in one night after shopping at Belmar and just wanted to get some prices. I met Amy Tracey and booked an appointment. I'll be honest, this salon is a bit pricey but DEFINITELY worth it. I have extremely thick, long and difficult hair and this is the only salon I've been to in the state that can manage it. Amy is a total sweetheart and INCREDIBLY talented. Best stylist I have probably ever been to. Not only is she a great stylist, she's rockin' chick! I met the owner, Doug, who was nice as well. Amy corrected my terrible job from Clementine's salon and did a fantastic job. I love my cut and color! Wonderful experience, great staff and awesome overall salon. I've been getting my hair cut here for several years...I followed my stylist Colleen here after she left the now defunct Metafolics. Her cuts are more pricey than I would like, but full disclosure...I'm extremely frugal. And in all honesty, she is worth every dime, if not more. She's been cutting hair for years and is constantly engaged in her industry. I have curly hair, and as any curly girl will tell you, most stylists do not have a clue about cutting curly hair. She really listens and is always open if your do needs a tweak. I also wish they weren't out in Lakewood, but thems the breaks. read more

Both my daughter and I go to Taylor for our haircuts and I get it colored. First of all, she is just the most delightful gal ever and full of spunk. Second, she gives a fantastic haircut and gets my color right every time. We've been going to Taylor for a little more than two years and she just gets better and better. I had gone to the Paul Mitchell School up the road once and ended up with the worst cut and color you could imagine, and Taylor has helped get it un-uglied and looking amazing. The salon is a little pricier than I guess I'd like to pay, but I am yet to find anywhere that has a price point between SuperCuts and a high-end salon that does anything decent with hair. I was desperate when I arrived to my first hair appointment, let me start by saying I've never been one to be loyal to a hairstylist/salon. I'm sure that's the worst kind of client but I usually keep my hair long without any special requests so I go where it's cheap. However, last Summer I was looking for a short, styled haircut and went to a boutique salon (NOT VITO PINI) to chop off about 11 inches. Once the haircut was complete I HATED it. Went through the typical motions of threatening to shave my head, letting everyone know "I didn't care", crying - just crying cause that's what you do sometimes.... In comes Vito Pini. Of course, I relied heavily on reviews given the horrible experience I just went through. The salon had good reviews and most notably, reviews about women who desperately needed someone to listen to them, but also guide the haircut to fit each individual = sign me up! The receptionist rocked when I first called in, I explained my situation and I felt like she responded as a real person with real sympathy but also excitement for my appointment which really made me hopeful and optimistic. She set me up with Carrie and I could not be more thankful that she strongly recommended I work with her. Carrie is AWESOME! She's real, she gets it, she'll be totally honest with you, but she will genuinely support whatever look you're going for. After my first appointment I knew I could no longer settle for any old chair. I want Carrie to be the one cutting my hair from now on, not just because she's easy to talk to and meticulous in her work, but she has a true passion for making people look and feel their best! read more

Ok I know that in the great scheme of life; hair cuts should not be considered a major hardship but we all have had THAT horrible hair experience that takes forever to grow out, making your life twice as difficult in the process..... But, let me tell you a little story about customer service. When I walked into Vito Pini, I was furious about a miserable haircut done at a different salon in Belmar...that shall remain nameless. I don't really know what I was looking for at Vito Pini, but I asked the girl at the front desk about their products and told her I was looking for ANYTHING that would help me style this horrible chopped up hair cut. She told me to give her a second and came back with the OWNER.... Vito, who had a client that was processing but still proceeded to take the time to bring me to his chair and demonstrate some products and ways to style my hair. He was patient, and reassuring; and made several recommendations, that really helped....all without trying to oversell his products or criticizing the other salon...classy move! ...Oh did I mention, despite the time he took, he did not even charge me!!! I left that salon with Vito's card and several hair products that are going to make getting ready for work every morning a lot easier for me! I was so impress by this experience that I will be coming back for my hair and skin care. I had a terrible experience here and am honestly traumatized from it. I went in for a consultation for extensions with a short bob cut. I showed Doug many pictures of the look I was trying to achieve. He lead me to believe that it wouldn't be a problem. I agreed to move forward and set up my apt for extensions to be placed. I went in and the placement was very rushed, and I ended up with hair that looked like I just had a super long mullet. The texture was awful and didn't match mine at all and there was no blending done. He curled it all back, trying to mask the disaster and I left. I was in tears the next day and following day as my head hurt so bad from them being so tight and completely embarrassed by how terrible they looked! I spent $2000 there and had to go somewhere else 2 days after to have them removed and my hair cut and styled. I was completely mislead and feel robbed of my money and time. I was very unhappy with the hair cut I received a little over a week ago. I have only been there once before and had my hair cut by a very nice lady, but I couldn't remember her name. I needed a cut on short notice and was given Alden for a stylist. When we discussed the length at which to cut my very long hair to clean it up, I said 5 inches... he took of 8. I asked if he could do some long layers. He parted my hair in the middle, and when I told him that i NEVER do that, I always part my hair on the right side, his response was, "I'm parting it in the middle for symmetry". NOW... when I part my hair on the side, ALL of the layers are on one side and NONE on the other (I look rediculous)!!!!! Also... after he shampooed my hair (which was nice) he proceeded to rip a shit load of hair from my scalp because he wasn't using a detangler!! He finally borrowed some from a colleague after I told him I was in pain! It was very disturbing to me that he used tools (i.e., brush, scissors, comb) that looked like they were never cleaned from his previous client, but just pulled out of a drawer. The brush was still covered in someone else's hair. He was also caked in the stench of cigarette smoke. I think that any woman or man, that is going to pay $55 for a hair cut at a salon that has a high star rating should have better standards. I don't usually write reviews about salons, however, I thought this needed to be written. I want you to understand that another salon had made my hair coppery instead of the beige blond/ brown combination that I like but did't know how to describe, and I decided to try someone else more local to where I live. Let me start by saying that the people at the front desk of Vito Pini are very nice and accommodating. I was given an appointment with an adorable girl with blue hair named Rachel. I found Rachel to have a very particular style and energy that I liked. I do feel Rachel is very talented, however, on my third visit with her ( I have fast gray growth so I go every three weeks to get them covered) she proceeded to put what looked like black ink on my roots. It had absolutely no relationship with anything already on my head and because I was primarily blond, it looked like someone dropped an ink bottle on the top of my head and around my hairline. I was extremely unhappy. A senior stylist named Taylor came to talk to me when I expressed my unhappiness to the front desk. I was booked for a color correction and came back a couple of days later with Taylor. She broke up some of the darkness with blond that was the beige blonde highlight I was looking for (hooray, finally) however, the placement was not good. I still had large dark roots and a band of dark around my face. I chucked it up to that she fit me in for this correction because I was traveling that week and needed to get it done and couldn't wait. What was super strange to me at the time is that Taylor wanted to charge me $50 for the product!!! NO!!! WAIT!! What about my time and the fact that I had to come back! I did not pay. I never got an apology or any acknowledgment from Rachel which I found disturbing. Actually, during the correction with Taylor, as I sat with foils on my head , Rachel walked past me without even saying hello. Odd... Yesterday I went for an appointment with Taylor thinking I'd give this another chance. Taylor and I discussed that I liked the color of the highlights that she gave me during my correction (which was different from what I had but was a good result by some miracle). There were plenty of highlights already and I needed my gray roots covered again, the dark on my head was still obvious so we talked about a better color for the low light and that we'd pull that color through my hair. Okay...She put the low light color on my roots, pulled the low light through my hair, and then oddly put approx. 3-5 blond foils around my face. I absolutely did not understand with all the blond I had in my hair and around my face why she was putting bleach on bleach and didn't want to question a "senior stylist'. The only place I could have used more highlights was on the top of my head. The only thing I did ask is if what she was doing was going to change the color of my beautiful beige blond highlights to which she replied no. Really, I could kick myself for not saying I didn't want that. I had a bad feeling. Now...I am not a hair stylist but I've observed enough in my life how color is applied and this girl does not know how to do a hairline. And so...I told her what I wanted but somehow she didn't understand. This is what I have observed about hairlines by stylists that know how to do one. They take a feathering of the front of your hair (literally a feathering), they highlight, then put only the low light on the feathering of hair that's left so that it is in front of your highlight, against your face and it looks natural. Every time!! Taylor took way more than a feathering of hair. She took so much hair in the front that my hairline is dark and what's worse, I still have the band of dark around my hair that I said she needed to get rid of. And her response to me in the end when I told her I still had 3/4" of dark around my face? She didn't know how to get rid of it!! Really??? Taylor over darkened my hair, those beige blond highlights I liked so much?, well, mostly white around my face whatever is left of them. And that is after explaining to her that the reason I was blonder than I used to be is because I need the blond due to how fast my gray grows. The result of all this???? I still have very dark roots on the top of my head, and a ring around the front of my face. THE KICKER: She charged my $60 for the all over color...yes, normal...and $95 for a partial highlight!!!!!! REALLY???????? THEN WHY ARE MY 1" ROOTS ON MY HEAD SO DARK!!! I paid my bill, didn't tip and never going back. OH! AND...for $160? They don't blow out your hair!!!! You could pay $35 for that honor. So, in other words, until you go home can you really understand what you got. I was with my past stylist for 6 years but then I moved. I will be on the hunt for someone who knows what they're doing, and, think I found a place with amazing AND CURRENT reviews. Fingers crossed. read more

My guy moved here...all the way across town. Why? I don't know because I much preferred the salon he was previously at. This place is small and cramped. Everyone there seemed to be getting color put in their hair, and a lot of it. I just didn't have a very good feeling about it. He did say that his business has doubled because they take a lot of walk in's. I just don't know if I will remain loyal to him to make the trek out there again. No one seemed friendly either.
