I originally found Viva Eve through Zocdoc and scheduled an appointment with Shannon Chang, which was later rescheduled because she was unavailable. The appointment was then rescheduled a third time with another provider, Courtney Alexander. On the day of the appointment, I received a call informing me that Courtney was no longer available and was asked whether I would like to see a male provider instead. This would have been the fourth reschedule, all initiated by the practice. I've never experienced this many last minute changes due to provider unavailability. I'm a regular patient of the Forest Hills, Queens location but was referred to Dr. Sophie Dostrinos at Madison Ave for some concerns around hormones. Getting an available appointment within a week was easy. There were plenty of available times to choose from. The office was accessible and standard to all Viva Eve locations, the decor is very pleasing esthetically. Something about the woods they choose, enhanced by the warm orange tone just makes me feel grounded and at ease. Checking in is a breeze. They accept my insistence and I have a $30 copay payable from Apple Wallet or my debit card. I had a bit of wait today but that was due to a later arrival caused by transportation. They saw me anyway. I gave a urine sample and then waited in the lounge which has serval comfy couches and a tea bar. Comfort 10/10. Sophie came in, greeted me with a fist bump and went right to business. She and printed my results and shared them with me and explained what my body was doing, what the available treatments are, their benefits and side effects, asked me what I as thinking and then gave her recommendations. I don't think it gets better than this. She issued a call to action for me to maintain a journal until our appointment in Oct. Overall, this is the best darn practice and they have me as a client for as long as their standard operating practices remain this focused on delivering this type of care. read more

‼ INSURANCE SCAM. I just got up and walked out. They intentionally mislead you -- it's an extremely dystopian experience. I talked to someone over the phone who said I would need "a few visits to establish care" before they could perform a procedure. I asked what that meant, and it changed to 2, and then changed to 1. They took my insurance info and said I was covered. You get there, and after collecting your data (photo, social security number, insurance, name, employer info -- and they have you give it digitally AND on a hard copy) they sit you in a glass room (like a car dealership) to "discuss billing" and make you watch a video from their founder that makes it clear that they're "human" and "can mess up." They OVERemphasize that you should ask questions if something is unclear. When the billing person came in, she said "don't worry, you're not in trouble." Bizarre. Over the phone, they said I was in network. In person, they said "we're excited to share that you are covered by both in and out of network benefits," and that "today it'll just be a copay," which I asked them to clarify. After a couple back-and-fourths she finally says that I am *OUT* of network. They use intentionally misleading language to make it sound like you're covered, full-stop. They dodge direct questions with word salad. Completely unethical. The experience feels like a scam from start to finish. I was mislead by positive reviews, and now seeing the 1-star reviews am SO glad I left. Steer VERY clear. read more

Update: This practice is now under investigation for health care fraud. After telling me that they would not bill me or my health insurance for anything due to all of the issues, they still submitted over $100K in claims. I tried for months to work with them to withdraw the claims, but they were resistant and unresponsive. Since the claims they submitted were for procedures I did not have, I reported them as fraudulent to my health insurance. They have launched an investigation into all claims that Viva Eve has submitted to the company. Update: Almost a month after initially asking for an in-person meeting with Dr Drosinos to explain why she did so many tests on me without consent while I was under sedation, she called me unexpectedly. I reiterated my request to schedule a time to meet in-person. The Viva Eve team reached out to me to schedule, letting me know that Dr Drosinos was not willing to give up her billable appointment time to meet with me, so I could either take the meeting before 8am or after 830pm, or I was welcome to pay $650 out of pocket for a meeting during business hours. read more

I am very disappointed with my time at Viva Eve today. I had an appointment scheduled for 10:30 AM that I was told to schedule 6 months ago when I started a new birth control. I arrived 15 mins early and filled out all my intake forms ahead of time. The nurse who took my vitals was very nice but my chart was wrong and said I'm premenopausal (I'm 25 and not). Then after taking my vitals I waited in the office for over an hour to be seen by my doctor and even had to get up and tell the front desk that I was still waiting to be seen. Then the appointment consisted of the doctor coming in and asking me how I am and I said normal and that was it. Seems like it could've been a phone call instead of an hour of my time and 25$ all for nothing. My doctor is so nice just felt like they forgot about me and I wasted my time. read more

Such a nice office. Cheerful, clean, and comfortable. They have a tea and water station and multiple seating areas. The staff is welcoming and gives clear instructions, as today was my first appointment and I didn't know what to expect. After confirming I completed the intake forms already, they had me provide a urine sample and upload my ID, insurance card, answer some Covid-related questions, and sign a HIPAA document. From there, I briefly met with Bernadette, who I believe works in billing. She explained what is covered and what isn't in terms of services and gave me a welcome folder with some helpful details. After, I waited for less than 5 minutes before being called into my appointment, which went well. The medical/nurse assistant and APRN Sydney were super sweet and made me feel comfortable. Please take these reviews seriously. I wish I had. I scheduled an appointment with Viva Eve after confirming--multiple times--that they accepted my insurance. On the day of the appointment, their staff again confirmed they were in-network. I trusted them. Weeks later, I was blindsided with nearly $18,000 in out-of-network charges for what should have been a routine IUD insertion. Even worse, some of the bills are for a doctor I never even saw and for services I never received. The charges are grossly inflated compared to national averages. Be extremely careful about booking here. I've had recurrent BV in the past, with my most recent episode lasting from August-November 2024. When my former gynecologist suddenly went out-of-network, I had to find a new provider and chose Dr. Thornton at Viva Eve - which turned out to be a major mistake. Previously, I'd been put on doxycycline for BV and it had helped, though my former gyno had taken an extensive look into my past medical history, current medications etc. At Viva Eve, before any tests or labs were taken, I asked Dr. Thornton if doxy might be appropriate again. He didn't yet know what was going on, no labs had been taken, and we had no confirmation that it was BV. Despite that, he immediately agreed and prescribed doxycycline "as a precaution." This was the first major red flag: he relied on a patient's assumption instead of waiting for lab results, especially when prescribing a strong antibiotic like doxycycline. Second issue: I never received my lab results. Two full weeks passed, and I called four separate times. Each call resulted in a different excuse: the labs hadn't been sent, a physician needed to review them first, no physician was available, etc. BV results typically return within 3-4 days. Two weeks with no results is unacceptable. Third issue: They billed an old insurance plan I had when I was 25 years old. Different insurance carrier, different primaries. I was 28 at the time of this visit. I had never been to Viva Eve before, yet they somehow accessed and billed an old insurance, using an old member ID - despite my providing my current insurance information twice. My mom received a large bill after it was denied, creating another mess I had to resolve. And finally, the most serious problem: The doxycycline prescription triggered the most severe mental-health episode I've ever experienced: severe depression, panic attacks, and symptoms far beyond my baseline generalized anxiety disorder (which is normally well-managed). At first, I thought it was post-holiday stress, but the shift felt sudden, chemical, alarming- and dangerous. When I looked into it, I learned that thousands of people have reported the same severe psychiatric side effects from doxycycline- depression, panic attacks, even suicidal thoughts- despite doctors dismissing them. When I returned to Viva Eve, not only had the doxycycline not worked (because my issue was something doxy can't treat), but Dr. Thornton brushed off my concerns entirely, saying he had "never heard of that side effect." A simple Google search shows otherwise. I took that antibiotic for nothing, severely disrupted my mental and gut health for nothing, and then spent three months working with my psychiatrist to undo the damage. Dr. Thornton dismissed all of it with a casual, "Sorry about that." That was my experience with Viva Eve. I'm sure Dr. Thornton is knowledgeable in many areas, but in my case, that knowledge did not translate into safe, careful, or responsible patient care. read more

Had surgery and they swore up an down someone would get back to me within 24 hours. No call for over 48 hours now. They have their answering service that only takes messages on during the day when I know for a fact the office is open. They have a stupid texting app with no portal for practitioner - patient communication. They are impossible to speak to and I have no idea what happened to my body or how my major surgery went. Absolutely disgusting lack of post-surgery care. Impossible to contact the office. They just have a useless answering service that does absolutely nothing. read more

So either they got it wrong, or just told us what we wanted to hear so we would show up. We then proceed to wait 45 minutes with no doctor or staff checking in on her. I ask for update, the staff say, a doctor is coming now. 20 more minutes passed with no word so ultimately we just left. My wife is just starting to find treatment for her fertility challenges and was already anxious about making an appointment. Viva Eve claims to empower women but instead they disrespected my wife's time and the effort she made to seek treatment. There are plenty of other doctors in Manhattan who will give you a much higher standard of care, but that is not saying much read more

A beautiful space, wonderful staff, and kind and awesome doctors. BUT they DO NOT take any major insurance and are out-of-network despite claiming when you call and on their website (see attached screenshot) and on numerous referral websites, including ZocDoc, that they do. New patients are taken into a room and given a lengthy spiel about how they bill and you will never have to pay. There is also some confusing talk of how your insurance company may send you the money for their services and their out-of-network lab and then you would put it in your account and bring them cash or sign the check over to them. It's was all very confusing, sketchy, and annoying AFTER they claimed they took my insurance and were in-network online and also when I called before booking the appointment. I am not sure what kind of crazy is now going to occur with my insurance when they bill. But patients shouldn't be bookkeepers or worrying about billing. We should be able to pay our co-pays and they should take it from there. Multiple patients in the waiting room that got "the talk" were, like me, not happy with this bait and switch. Will see what happens but something doesn't seem right. In addition, I was suffering serious pelvic pain when I went in so was stuck. But I needed an immediate solution, not months of figuring stuff out over multiple appointments with a weird, possibly illegal, insurance policy. And finally, I was trying to call all day for my test results and kept being rolled over to an answering service -- IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DAY!!! This is beyond ridiculous. So the five stars are for excellent care and bedside manner from Dr. Sophie, who heard all my concerns and addressed each one like a professional and without belittling me, as some doctors tend to do with their patients. I also give five stars for a truly beautiful waiting area that is not unlike the set of a Wayfair catalog, and friendly staff. The five stars are also for being seen promptly. The only very weird thing is that they seem to charge the insurance companies waaaay more than they have to, and that's weird. I found this place on zocdoc, because zocdoc has a filter that shows you which providers are in-network. When I get there, I repeatedly ask if my lab work will be sent to a place in network. They said i wouldn't get charged for anything. This is also after making me sign something saying that I may accept help paying for certain things. At first I didn't sign that but the receptionist gently urged me to sign it. Weird. Ok, back to the situation: so I go to my appointment, everything is great, and then two months later I receive an explanation of benefits from my health insurance saying that I may owe around 5k, and that they're only paying $300. Naturally I freaked out. Anyway long story short the billing person at Viva Eve said that they weren't going to charge me a penny. They were only going to accept the payment that the insurance gave them. She was very kind in explaining and reassuring me that my balance was zero. So ANYWAY! Five stars because every board of the visit was fantastic but whatever business model they have of overcharging the insurances and not being in-network for anyone despite claiming they are but also totally being truthful about not charging patients a dime is interesting and kinda weird. I was sent to a "finance counselor" when I expressed concern that I originally was told this office was in-network, but when I arrived I was told it was out-of-network, but can be classified as in-network in booking appointments due to some insurance jargon loophole. The finance counselor said I would receive a "big bill" and verbatim "JUST INGORE IT." They billed my insurance company Aetna $3,978 for a PAP done by an NP, not even an MD. I believe this practice to be unethical and cannot imagine it is abiding by legal guidelines. This is deceptive and this organization should be investigated. read more

However, when they ask if you want an 'ultrasound' or 'diagnostic' they definitely did not advise that it may not be covered by insurance. On the website they said that they take AETNA, but just remember, anything they offer while in the office, may not necessarily be covered. I did not like it that I was not given that as a disclaimer, i might have refused it instead of incurring a huge bill =( also the meeting after the appt with the lady was a bit weird, she talked about possibly receiving a check in the mail and then bringing it in to the office (?) anyway I don't think I would come in again. The overall vibe of the office is incredibly chic and relaxing - with a full tea bar too! Devin retrieved me from the waiting room and helped get me set up for the treatment which Vanesa would be doing. Vanesa was incredibly caring, kind, and compassionate throughout my whole treatment. I am extremely disappointed with this practice and the level of care they provide, which is far below satisfactory in my opinion. I am going through a very tedious and time-consuming plan to get pregnant which involves taking two different kinds of prescription medications and coming in for monthly bloodwork to monitor my hormone levels. This has been going on for two months and, before I started on this plan, I was told that someone would speak with me verbally to discuss my bloodwork results from the prior month and re-assess my medication and plan moving forward. Unfortunately, the first month I came in for my bloodwork, I was scheduled to meet with a nurse named Christina Dumba, who made me wait 50 minutes past my appointment time and only came in to see me after I approached her in the hallway and asked if it would be my turn soon, to which she gave a response showing she obviously forgot about me and my appointment altogether. Once she did come into the exam room, she couldn't even properly articulate if I would need to take the same medication and when I would need to start taking it again for the following month. When she could tell I was clearly still confused as to when I specifically should start taking my Provera again, she just left the room and I had to google it to find the answer on my own. I then called the office and asked that another doctor or nurse call me back to discuss this further, and Dr. Thornton did call me back but sounded very annoyed that he was speaking with a patient who he doesn't normally see. To make matters worse, I got my bloodwork back and learned that I didn't ovulate, which is extremely emotionally difficult for me to learn, but was even more so disheartening because Christine Dumba disclosed it in an unprotected email to me, along with one sentence instructing me to "keep taking my meds." When I came back for my bloodwork the following month, I learned that I was actually supposed to have had my medication bumped up to a higher dose after learning that I did not ovulate, and was supposed to discuss this plan with my provider instead of just receive a one-sided message with one sentence telling me to take my meds. I was told this by Dr. Drosinos, who told me that this lack of clarity won't happen again, and that, once my bloodwork came back in two days, she promised she would call me to explain next steps. Unfortunately, the bloodwork came back three days later and I got the same short email from another nurse practitioner just telling me to take my meds. I am extremely disappointed by this practice and confused by their positive reviews, as this has not been my experience with them whatsoever and I am already in the process of transferring practices. I am writing this review to inform and deter future patients from attending this practice to avoid the frustration and heartbreak I suffered at the hands of these practitioners. I saw some fine lines on my neck and forehead and visited Viva Eve for microneedling on my face and neck. While I was really nervous before the treatment, I'm so happy with my experience! The practice is beautiful and modern and the staff is quite friendly. Devin is the cosmetic concierge and explained a lot of the details beforehand to me. Since numbing is key to comfort, she spends a lot of time on that part of the process (ladies, don't do it yourselves!). Vanesa explained the microneedling, what it would feel like, the after-effects and when I'd see the benefits. Vanesa is so quick and calming during the treatment. I've been seeing Dr. Gohar as a regular gynecology patient for several years, and his level of care, attention, bedside manner and sheer knowledge of medicine as a whole is absolutely unmatched. I followed him to the newer Viva Eve Madison office, where I've also gotten to know the dermatology team very well -- they did not disappoint! Devin and Vanesa are mindful of my personal goals and needs, trustworthy and honest about what's suitable (or not suitable) for me, and are brilliant with execution! All of this because now the clinic will not accept my insurance, even though my insurance hasn't changed during this time and i have the exact same i had from the very beginning. I have no complaints about the way i was treated during the time I visited the clinic. But now i am having a very hard time finding a new provider that accepts me at 21 weeks pregnant. Viva Eve is likely OUT OF NETWORK for your insurance plan, be sure to explicitly ask the question "are you out of network to my insurance plan" because I agree with the other reviews that they kind of do this weird "bait and switch" where they tell you ahead of time that they "accept" your insurance plan but then when you check in to the clinic they pull you into a separate room and tell you that "accept" doesn't mean "in network". So yes, they are technically correct, but quite a bit deceptive in my opinion. That said, nice clinic, nice staff, and I received quality care. read more

The Viva Eve office on Madison Ave. is so clean and chic! I was seen by Vanessa Kodra, PA which was delightful, informative and so attentive to my needs. I received Botox treatments on my forehead and neck area and the needles were almost painless. I definitely felt like I was in the best hands with Vanessa. The office manager Devin is amazing as well. She took photos of me before my procedure and walked me through any concerns or questions I had. Overall, the entire experience was superb with very professional employees so go book your next treatment ASAP because you'll feel so much better that you did. read more

Prior to visiting Vanessa, I had only tried Botox from one of those "I know a guy," places. That prior experience felt very transactional. It was X units for Y dollars, the doctor would come in, do the "standard treatment" and then move on to the next patient. At Viva Eve, I didn't feel like I was being moved through a conveyor belt. Devin was helpful scheduling my appointment and welcoming me upon arrival, and Vanessa took the time to ask my about my concerns and the look I was trying to achieve. I said I still wanted some movement in my face, so she dialed back the units, placed them strategically, and I'm very happy with the results. She also did a peel to address some hyperpigmentation and roughness. I was expecting to look like a burn victim the next day, but the peel was pretty mild. There was just a little dryness, and I saw results within a week! One patch of sun damage was smoothed away. I'm definitely including these peels as part of my monthly maintenance. I wish I had started these years ago! Overall, I found everyone to be warm, knowledgeable, and caring. This is a good place to go to if it's your first time, because they will explain everything to you.
