I can already tell that ViVi Bubble Tea is going to make a lasting impression on Fairfax. Just the signage, with a bubbly font and cute skull logos, already puts you in a good mood. When you walk inside, fun (and photogenic!) murals, vibrant decorum, and plenty of seating makes this an inviting spot to come and hang out. Since I love the pho place next door, I anticipated this place's arrival. I looked at the menu online, which was very extensive with some unusual offerings (like popping yogurt boba, matcha jelly) and saw that it had been successful in other places. I walked in thinking I'd be turned away, since their soft opening was in two days. The staff was there doing a training and kindly explained to me that they could make me certain menu items only, that it might take a little while, and that it'd be 50 percent off. I was down with that! I got the match float (like a crema) with yogurt popping boba. My husband got a taro smoothie with the same yogurt boba. They were both good--I think the yogurt boba went better with the taro. They didn't have tapioca boba yet, but I'm excited for that! The service was actually pretty fast, and the containers were adorable (cat ears!) One of the employees told me to try the flaming brown sugar drink in the future--it's literally on fire! I had been waiting for this location to open for a while, long before their sign even went up. I've tried the other location in Falls Church and really enjoyed the quality of the tea, so I was excited to have one much closer to home. I was on my way home yesterday and happened to see the lit OPEN neon sign, so I stopped by in case they were open prior to their previously scheduled soft opening. They had training but let me come in and order if I was okay with it being a bit slow, which was nice. The place is spacious with bright and fun decorations without it being an assault on the eyes. It didn't take too long to get my order and as expected it was delicious. I will certainly be back. UPDATE: Just came back from their soft opening. Their service is super nice and the teas have taste like real teas and not artificial. In addition, I appreciate the fact that I can customize the drinks with toppings, amount of ice and level of sweetness. I also tried the popcorn chicken, which was crispy on the outside and moist on the inside and overall flavorful and not too salty. It's great that they sell snacks with their drinks and it's one of a few tea places that sell snacks such as this. You can get the best of both worlds here! Bubble teas AND Taiwanese street foods! First time we came here months ago, we were full from hotpot next door (99 hot pot is great BTW) so we only got bubble teas. They have a great variety of drinks with some unique flavors and great choice of toppings. I noticed there was a food menu which prompted me to make a mental note to come back! So now I'm back and pleased that I actually remembered to return! Tried various menu items...popcorn chicken (spicy, curry, and garlic) chicken wings which was the standard salt pepper flavor. And a popcorn chicken bento which comes with your choice of flavor, soy sauce egg, rice with braised pork, and a small size of seaweed salad. The rice and pork topping reminded me of my childhood where you can purchase dinners at the train station in Taiwan! Loved it! And such a great price for 11.95. I've been to bubble tea shops for the past 20 years, far and wide, from California to Taiwan, and as far as bubble tea shops go, this is the best I've found at Fairfax. I tried the Taro slush as a benchmark. It was flavorful but not too sweet. It was as thick as it should be. The Tako Yaki was a pleasant surprise. They have nice snacks there too. The ambience is nice and clean. The signs are easy to read in English and Chinese. There aren't any annoying screens showing K-pop videos. So you can have a nice time with the people you are with I really like the zombie hello kitty heads painted on the walls too. It is what Hello Kitty would be if she ended up in Coco's after life. Corn Nuts. I literally thought their JollyPop Milk Tea drink was topped off with Corn Nuts. Much to my relief it's actually Jolly Pop (or rather Jolly Pong), a Korean cereal snack that reminiscent of sweet rice puffs. After clearing that up, I soon discovered this drink is nothing to be afraid of. I ordered with boba and wow! The crunch of the Jolly Pong and the softness of the boba was such a nice contrast. The flavor and sweetness of the milk tea (25%) was perfect for me. I also had a chance to taste the Flaming Brown Sugar Bubble Tea with Boba and the Taro Creme Brûlée. At 100% sweetness, it was a little too much for my taste. Should I try again in the future, I'd simply adjust the sugar level because they were tasty otherwise. What was consistently good with each drink is the boba. ViVi Bubble Tea serve them warm which I love love love. It makes them all the more soft and compliments the cool of the milk tea itself. You have the option to choose basic milk tea flavors along with slushees and the non-milk tea drinks. Add ins: tapioca, lychee, pudding, poppers, aloe Vera, etc. - basic stuff. Choose your sweetness and ice level. I think I saw them sell little finger foods too, but I can't remember what was listed. Overall, I like this place. I love it for its color and design. Really like the food here, and the bubble tea drinks. We had previously frequented the Eden Center location but like this location a bit more given service and inside. The popcorn chicken is always enjoyable - not like what I'd usually expect of Taiwanese popcorn chicken (it has a bit of a thicker outside) but crispy and nicely flavored nonetheless. The takoyaki is also great - nice sauce (and not too much of it) and the inside has small Octopus bits. The popping boba is a huge hit with my son - he loves the yogurt one (fun to eat and he likes the slightly milky flavor). This bubble tea is fairly decent but if the two times I've been here, the drinks have been just ok. The signature fruit tea is good but laden with ice (I wasn't asked if I wanted any customizations which is standard everywhere else that serves bubble tea) and the passion fruit yogurt drink was very sweet, even to my standards as I have a fairly big sweet tooth. Vivi Bubble Tea is another great option to take care of your boba fix. This location is located in a strip mall near old town Fairfax. In COVID-19 times, they are only offering take out or delivery. I ordered the flaming brown sugar milk tea with boba. Drinks are made to order but it wasn't too long of a wait. This version is good. Make sure you shake the drink first, not vigorously, but enough to get the flavors blended. The boba was warm, the drink was sweet, and you get little bits of caramelized sugar. I have tried the boba fruits tea drink and it was supper good. Sadly, that night I had vomited all the tea I drank that night. Honestly the drink was super good when I drank it but I'm too afraid to try again. I usually have a strong stomach and I never get ill from any boba drink so I'm not sure what happened that day. I have also tried the popcorn chicken with basil flavor. The chicken was good but I feel like the chicken bread is a little thick and I wish there was more basil flavor. The bubble tea junkie inside me brings me here WAY too much than I'd care to admit. I just absolutely love their bubble tea. I try to order on the phone when I leave home (about 10 min out), but i usually struggle with the customization, so I prefer getting here and ordering in person. The place is large and airy, sparsely furnished, but has a welcoming vibe. The crew here is polite and very hard working. My standard order is a large bubble tea, with bubbles and lychee jelly, no sugar and light ice. I also always tell them to half the amount of mango syrup, because the tea is way too sweet with the full amount. I used to get a lot of looks for that, because they believe there will not be enough flavor, but trust me - it's delicious still. Now that they know my order well, they do a good job of not making it too sweet. I love their punch cards and have definitely had a few free drinks lol! Ragz loves their fresh watermelon slush. If you ask for it without sugar and with boba, it's basically as healthy as you will get. I love that their boba is warm at the bottom of the glass and is the right amount of chewiness, which is awesome. The flavors are also always spot on. There was a time when Ragz and I were definitely obsessed with their popcorn chicken, it is totally addictive. We used to get it with a mix of basil and garlic flavor and it's pretty legit. I randomly stumbled upon this bubble tea shop and thought it would be worth the try. The drink that I got was the Blue Galaxy. It was a blend of grape and lime that tasted pretty delicious and new, compared to every other tea shop in the area. But the other drinks tasted off(?), they don't exactly taste how they're advertised. My friend got the yogurt passionfruit, but I could hardly taste the passionfruit of the yogurt inside. It was just a weird drink that tasted like fruit. I also saw a lady walking out the store with a disgusted look on her face as she was sipping on her drink, guess it didn't match her palette. The inside is very spacious and aesthetically designed. Like all current, hip places, they had wall art and current music playing. The menu lists all the drinks but the descriptions are written in Chinese, so you would have to ask the workers about the drink ingredients. A light environment, dimmed out lighting and outdated music. A very cute environment but mediocre items. My Medium Sized Passion Fruit slush came nice and compact. A nicely detailed and appealing cup that has you ordering for a larger size. Although the cup was appealing, the drink was unfortunately lackluster. The actual passion fruit was pleasantly natural, but the boba was bland and overcooked. The garlic popcorn chicken was overly seasoned. Too much salt was added in comparison to the "salt" and pepper popcorn chicken which was strangely much sweeter. This place has a really cute interior decor and makes for a nice spot to hang out. Having the hotspot and the pho next door really makes it a go to for some bubble tea after a hot meal. I ordered the limited time Watermelon Float and it was pretty good. This drink is made with fresh watermelons and less syrup so it was really refreshing and clean, however I'm not sure about the bubbles or their milk drinks. Their milk cap was nice and a bit salty (which is good if you like the salty milk caps) and was not a bad bang for your buck at $6.33 for a large size. While they have a large selection of unique flavors, I opted for the classic milk tea with boba (just to compare to other boba places in the area). In Fairfax, there's not exactly an abundance of bubble tea stores, but thankfully, ViVi is a really solid option. The muted ambiance paired with the bubblegum-pop aesthetic on the walls makes for a fun time. The tea here is solid, not anything to write home about. I'd say that it's less sweet by default than Kung Fu tea (appreciated), but the boba itself is a bit inconsistent, somewhat overdone in my order.
