Although, like most, I was leary of the door-to-door sales people. However, I was also wanting home automation, but ADT and others provided it at such an extremely expensive price. Not only was the equipment free, but the terms of the contract were very doable, even though it was a longer time period than most others. I believe that we ended up signing a 48 month contract, and since we have only had one issue with the electronics (which Vivint quickly sent someone out to repair, and it was free?!?!). We are now moving, and since we do not have a home selected on the other side of the country, we are able to transfer the Vivint service to the new home buyers who also were delighted with the technology and the more affordable price. Our alarm has been activated a couple of times, by accident, but they were quick to respond and make sure that we were safe. Our system included 2 full automatic entry door locks, wifi camera, glass break sensors, window and door sensors, wifi connectivity with cellular backup, garage door tilt monitoring, and whole home thermostat. I love it, and honestly, I highly doubt that I will check out any other company once we get a new place picked out in Vegas. read more

The individuals are very personable but nothing they promised is in writing, and even when it is, every avenue for scheduling the tech won't work...unless you are buying more product. They have quite the intricate system for avoiding refunding and allowing customers to leave, even when one has followed all of their protocols. If they spent half the time in developing better integrity, they would see a much higher rate of contented customers who wouldn't be bothering them and wouldn't need to develop such elaborate systems for discouraging people from leaving. Research backs this up 100%. Don't even get me started on why I chose to leave after the 3 day grace period, I could write a book on the smiling, courteous faces, who push through their own agenda, even when their verbal response appears to be listening and agreeable. It is obvious they have extensive training on how to distract and wear down customers. The final straw was when I went down to our local city and county offices to get more information on exactly how the 911 dispatch for emergencies works (what happens for false alarms, the permits that the company said they needed me to sign, etc). When the front desk clerk heard that I was inquiring about Vivint, face turned pale and they had the captain of the police force and another official come ask me what I needed. Needless to say, our city officials are very well aware of this company and have repeatedly directed them to get the proper permits before knocking on doors, which they NEVER even attempt to do. I would hope that our city permit department never grant this company a permit because the ethical standards which the entire Vivint team operates by leaves a great deal to be desired. I think it's interesting that the review sites such as Top10.com indicate "We earn commissions from brands listed on this site, which influences how listings are presented." Well, yes, the website give them very high reviews because they are most likely creating the reviews themselves! I would not wish this company even on my worst enemy, because that would mean Vivint would continue to operate. The equipment they sell are brands you can purchase at the local Home Depot, etc. but they have repackaged the devices and disabled them so you can't use them individually or with another system, even when you pay for them outright. Door to door salesman said there was no contract, the service was month to month. We cancelled two years later after they raised the rates again. They then billed us & sent us to collections stating we owe THREE more years of service payments. Never use this company unless you're going to use them for 5 years & endure the never ending rate increases. read more

The system works but the cost of the equipment is outrageous. The payments for equipment stretch over several years. I have 5 sensors and a doorbell camera and the total cost is right at $2,000. The salesperson was very misleading but there is no way out. read more

I would not recommend this service based soley upon their customer service. I was approached by one of their door to door representatives while trying to get my family into the house and start cooking dinner. I politely told him that I was not interested to which he repeated said that he only needed 60 seconds of my time. Meanwhile my dog was barking and my daughter was getting restless, however the salesman continued to press despite me continuing to tell him I clearly did not have time. It is completely unreasonable that the salesman treated me as if I was being unreasonable and wasting his time when I never sought information for this security system and in fact he approached me and was disrespectful. I had asked simply for a form with information to look at when he had approached the house, but like all door to door salesmen, he said he didn't not have printed information and continued to try to pitch me. He finally walked away exasperated and annoyed. Given this experience with who this company employs as the face of the organization, I would not purchase their services. read more

Terrible. We had our system installed one week ago and have had nothing but issues with the thermostat....during a week of 30 degree weather. Our house is freezing. Our thermostat is now completely turned off. We called this morning to get someone out to fix it and we have to wait THREE DAYS!!!! HOW does a company like this not have technicians on call or standby for issues that come up?! Entirely unacceptable. I can't wait for our contract to end so we can be done with this company. The first few years we had a great experience however as time went on our equipment started having issues. The panel would frequently reboot which would reset all of the thermostat schedules. I eventually had a tech come out and replace the panel. The new panel rebooted as often as the old one but the new issue with the panel was that we couldn't get the app to control the various devices we had. The zwave devices such as the thermostat, lights and cameras worked fine but the door open and shut and arm/disarm no longer worked through the app (iPhone & android or on a pc). What's the point of having a smart security system for your home if you can't even tell if it is armed or not when your away? I got extremely frustrated with the support and the inability to fix their issue. There were several scheduling failures on their dispatch crew and I finally called to cancel my service. That's when I found out that I inadvertently, somewhere along the lines, renewed the 42 month contract. UGH! So now what? I pay for 2 service contracts because Vivint did not have the customers best interests in mind. A real shame. I called to give them another shot and although they said they can't let me out of contract, they could reduce my bill by $25/month. Alas, my bill is the same as it always was and when I called back to remind them of their promise, they don't seem to have record of our conversation. read more
