What? Who knew that right in mid-town Grass Valley there was such a professional oasis for hair care? Only came in because my usual stylist was away....he was right to send me to Virginie....she really listened, carefully evaluated my hair and delivered a super cut and wonderful color. This is a little late for a review, but could not leave excellent and attentive service go unrecognized. My daughter was married in Grass Valley (at the North Star House) on October 7. Wedding party...bride, 2 bridesmaids and myself, mother of the bride, had our hair and make-up done by Virginie, and her excellent staff! They were attentive, made all of us feel so comfortable, on what is considered a "nervous" type day. I myself have extremely fine thin hair, and it was unbelievable how it ended up! My daughter...simply amazing. I even had my very FIRST manicure!! All four of us were just delighted and so very pleased with the service. read more

I have had many many facials throughout the bay area and vegas and the facial here by Lisa was the absolute best! She was very attentive and kept busy the whole time during my treatment. She was either massaging my arms, neck or feet and putting warmers on them in between switching concoctions on my face. The 90 minute facial was the best but all of them were great. I have been here 4 times. I try to book an appointment with Lisa everytime I am in the area. read more

I went with my aunt and the bridal party to vj's for mani pedi's before her big day. The staff greeted us with smiles and warm cups of tea however, as soon as I started to get my nails done problems started to occur. My manicure felt very rushed and my manicurist didn't even clean up the extra paint around my nails. Then, I went to get my toes done and they asked if I already had gel on my toes. I answered yes and they proceeded to tell me that they didn't have acetone to soak it off. I was completely shocked and quite irritated that they were not prepared. They ended up making me wait a whole hour while they went to pick up acetone. After soaking they still couldn't get it off and started to scratch and scrape the polish off with a tool. My pedicure turned out alright, my manicure was awful however. Once all was said and done (3 and a half hours later) my mani and pedi was $105. The pedicure being 60, and the manicure being $45. Overall, my experience was a huge waste of time and money. I would NOT recommend getting a manicure or a pedicure here. Not sure what their other services are like but for the ones i got, totally NOT worth it. read more

Erinn is a miracle worker! A stylist at another salon messed up my hair. It was sticky, waxy and absorbing all types of shampoo! Erinn treated my hair with a deep conditioning treatment and a wash and the mess was gone! Without her I probably would have had to have my hair cut off. read more

BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!!! I can't say enough about these ladies. I was trying to book a massage and nails for my gf and I and after calling 25-/+ I came across VJs on Google and it was like striking gold. Not only was the lady on the line helpful getting us a massage ( which were amazing) she literally planned my day for me. Got me a b&b for the night as well as reservations at a local restaurant for dinner. Both where perfect an just what we wanted. And the great customer service didn't stop with her. EVERY employee was great. The funny thing was I wasn't even planning on going to nevada city. I was going to north shore Tahoe and when I typed in the address to VJs I realized it wasn't even in the right direction to where I was going.. but that great service on the phone made me change my plans. I found this place on another website and decided to give it a try as they supposedly offer specialized manicures. While they do use good products;the manucurists skill level(there's only one here-Jessica)was less than desirable. I expected expertise but she seemed like she just learned how to do nails-she was filing wrong and they weren't completely even and the polish job-Yikes!! It was horrible. I had missed spots on my nails,it was sloppy-you could clearly see the different levels of polish on my nail. My husband laughed and said he could do a better job. I was seriosly pissed as it set me back 35$ (plus the tip)but I couldn't tell till I had left cuz the whole time we were in a very dark dungeon like room which made me wonder how she could work in that environment in the first place..I haven't tried the facials but evertyhing there is expensive so just spend your money wisely somewhere else. read more

We recently moved to Colfax and I was looking for a full service salon. I called VJ's based on the yelp comments and I was given an appointment for a mani pedi with Lucy. Lucy is simply amazing. She is professional, bubbly and extremely accommodating. I left feeling like I was walking on air. My sister-in-law from out of town needed a haircut and pedicure but only told me the morning she needed it done. I called Lucy and she got her in right away. Very disappointing. If this is truly Nevada County's "Best" as a number of locals told me as well as the award from the Union newspaper, then I recommend driving down the hill. I'd describe the pedicure as a flat out mess--the woman got more nail polish under my toe nails and on my skin then on the actual nails. And then she tried to clean it up with a toothpick dipped in nail polish remover. In addition, the chair was broken, the water burned my foot, and the light in the room rattled. I felt bad because she was very sweet and clearly trying hard, but overall, the service was incompetent and overpriced. read more
