From the moment we walked in, it felt welcoming, and full of whimsy charm. One of my favorite things was that they had a wall dedicated to local authors, which I absolutely loved. Supporting local businesses and local creatives means a lot to me. They also had so many events happening for both adults and children, such a fun community centered space rather than just a bookstore. If you stop by, make sure to grab their summer bingo printable too. The staff was incredibly sweet, welcoming, and genuinely eager to help. They had a really great selection for both children and adults, so it felt like there was something for everyone. Another huge plus in my book was that they accept ESA, which is so helpful for families using those funds for educational materials along with pouring back into our community. She also shared that they have an outdoor patio space for event but due to summer temps it's usually more popular in the cooler months. Honestly, the only downside is that I wish I would've discovered this place sooner.

What I liked about this place was the abundance of reference books. I need to bone up on my chemistry skills from way back, so I bought a couple of older texts for just such a purpose. I also wandered into their $1 zone and found a couple of impulse buys. How can you not be impulsive when every book in that section is a buck? I found an old cookbook from "The Froog"... that's The Frugal Gourmet for those who remember back when he had a cooking show on PBS. Those who think Paula Deen was the only famous cooking television personality to be tarnished by scandal would do well to look Jeff Smith up on the Interwebs. I guess I know now why his stuff is in the bargain section... but his disappearance from the culinary scene is my shopportunity! The staff here seemed quite knowledgable. I had an interesting discussion with them about the collectibility of some of the Dungeons & Dragons manuals they displayed. I was not aware that the Deities & Demigods manual (available here for $75) was produced in two different versions, the later one omitting any Cthuhlu mythology due to legal issues). I forgot to check which versions were stocked here, but I am well familiar with this book from my childhood (not because I was a D&D player, but because I was into mythology). I had a fun time exploring this bookstore and chatting with the staff. I will return to navigate Bookmaze again sometime. If you've got some time to kill, this is a fine, quirky little bookstore in which to browse, browse, browse for bargains.

The shop is located at the very end of a little hidden alley in Downtown Mesa. If you know where Novel Ice Cream and Organic Bean Cafe is, it's right in that alley filled with foliage :) The bookstore was filled with eager readers on grand opening day! It is tiny, but they have a variety of books ranging from children's books, teen fiction, to romance, to sci-fi fantasy, and more. There are small decor pieces that are so unique and book-focused. If you're looking for a cozy mom-and-pop shop you'd read about in a romance book, this is it! :)

You can find a wide range of artsy book-related or flower-related events on their website. For this class, it was learning how to make a spiral bouquet. It was so fun learning this technique and leaving with a a bouquet that I had designed! I was immediately greeted by a young friendly woman at the front who left me to peruse the store. There's a selection of books for everyone, with sections for various genres housed on the east wall and within their bookcases and tables. I love the idea of a blind date with a book, and they had no shortage of options! There's a small area containing tees and other merch and, even tho I'm not a big sci-fi fan, I loved the setup they had for the genre! What I hadn't anticipated was the section that had the Sweet Valley Twins books! The nostalgia was HEAVY let me tell you! :) Regardless of how small the store seemed, they do an amazing job of packing in the books and I was impressed that there's literally every type of genre you could want there. Adding to the great vibes are the comfy sitting areas with plush seating, an old typewriter you can crank out 'hellos' to future visitors on, and plants and decor that add charm to some mid century modern furniture. What makes this place so unique though is the assortment of fresh flowers in the back and the flower workshops they hold each week. I haven't gone to one yet, but I plan on it, they look really cool!
