This place is a lot of fun. Been to a few auction houses in the vicinity, this probably has the best selection in town. (Extending reach out to Austin, have to admit many better choices out there, but locally this is high on the list.) Ambiance is nice, they are pretty straightforward, auctions in person are easy enough to figure out. Prices are obviously based on buyer demand, but the value seems on par with other auction houses. There have been a couple occasions over the years where they were supposed to be open as per listed hours, but were not. This is relatively rare, but still notable. Recommended to call ahead if you have any doubts. Unfortunately, that is the biggest flaw here. Their customer service seems fine, but once you can establish contact. Email response is questionable. Calling works, but getting in touch with the right person to do what needs to be done can be a challenge. Much more responsive in person. Recommended in person only for the novice treasure hunters out there. Good luck! read more

October 8, 2024, I stopped by the establishment to inquire about appraisal and I was ignored. Was standing there for awhile. Then finally spoked the someone and she said I can text a picture of my item to be appraised to 210-901-9042. So I did. To this day Nov 19, 2024, I am still waiting for an appraisal. I spent over $6K at a recent auction and a large part of it was because they said they ship. It's a real hassle for someone out of town to hire a packaging store to pick, pack and send from an auction house and I bid (and won) with some abandon because I knew they'd be shipping. I paid my invoice immediately and requested a shipping quote as instructed. "If you require shipping, we offer an in-house nationwide shipping service. To obtain a quote, please call our office". I was then told it was too big and they didn't want to ship. I complained and then they said they were too busy. Guess what? Now I'm too busy to deal and wouldn't consider an auction from them again. read more

I took several pairs of spurs in to be auctioned. Rob checked them in and assured me that they would be handled. They posted the auction and my spurs had very lack luster descriptions. I called and emailed but never received a reply, so I drove back over to the auction house and talked to Lily she assured me that she would change the description to be more accurate. I looked online a couple days later and didn't see a change, I called and she said that she added to the end of the description...which is not an industry standard. needless to say they all sold under marker value. If you use Vogt to sell make sure they agree to the appraised value and the description before leaving your property read more

I completely agree with the previous review about a truly terrible post-sale experience with Vogt Auctions. I was the winner of a number of lots from an early Nov 2021 auction. By mid-December my items were still not shipped out to me. I emailed Gil Sanchez in their shipping dept for an update but received no response. The following week I called Vogt Auctions and spoke to Annette on the phone, who informed me there were issues with their system marking me as "unpaid" (even though I paid in full upon receipt of that invoice in November) and that she would have the accounting dept rectify the issue. I asked Annette to please reach out and let me know when the issue was resolved, but I never heard back from her. A week later I emailed Ryan Jennings, Operations Director, but never received a response. I then emailed Rob Vogt, Director, but again, never received a response. Eventually I received my items in the mail, so clearly all issues were finally resolved, but the complete and total lack of communication was unacceptable. I understand that things happen and that unforseen issues often pop up, but it's about how these problems are handled that separates the good from the bad. This was all handled VERY badly. There is no excuse. Beware of Vogt Auctions. I for one will never do business with them again. read more

I was told twice (once a week before the auction) by Tom the consignment manager my items were going to be in the upcoming auction. but when the auction came up my items were not in it . This after they had my items for three months. I got tired of the runaround and retrieved my items. Really disappointing I wanted this to be a smooth transaction but the consignment manager made it a bad experience. read more

I am absolutely livid and frustrated with Vogt Auctions. I placed a bid on AuctionZip (Invaluable) which is one of the online platforms Vogt uses for their auctions. I was approved and placed a bid on an item over a week and a half prior to the auction. During the auction, my bid was passed over and unable to bid live via AuctionZip. I had the high/winning bid by $150 compared to the person who ended up winning the auction using LiveAuctioneers as their platform. I confirmed this with the live feed of the auction on YouTube, as well as talking directly to the owners of Vogt. If a platform is deemed to not work, why are they using this platform???? I have been looking for this very specific item that came up for auction for more than 4 years and was willing to pay good money for it. I rightfully should have won but neither Vogt or AuctionZip (Invaluable) can or will do anything for me. I am left out to dry for something I should have rightfully won. I sold items that I can no longer get back to ensure I had the money for this specific lot. I passed over other lots in the auction to ensure I was able to keep bidding on the specific lot. I am furious with Vogt and AuctionZip (Invaluable) for this injustice. I have screenshots and video proving that I was the high bidder and should have won. But the owner of Vogt said there's nothing he can do for me. It's safe to say they have lost my business. I understand that this is not all Vogt's fault, as AuctionZip was the main point of failure, but the fact that they use this platform will continue to use it is absolutely wrong. I have witnessed many auction houses stop live bidding to ensure their online platforms are synched and working correctly, however this was clearly not done with Vogt. I've been a long time customer of Vogt auctions. My Mom and Dad were as well. They started attending Gene Vogt's sales in the mid 1970's and often relied upon Gene to help sell things as needed. Turning to Robb (Gene's son) for help with their estate was the natural thing to do after Mom passed away recently. With two generations of experience and knowledge, Robb and his crew knew exactly what to do, and how to do it. They've added years to Cathy's and my lives by taking what seemed to be a monumental and emotional task and helping put it all into perspective. It's absolutely a terrific and exciting place to buy, but certainly don't overlook Vogt auctions ability to help with estate liquidations when the difficult time comes. I highly recommend Vogt. The auction business is a hard one frequently peopled by dodgy individuals. Vogt, in my humble opinion, is a quality establishment with close ties to the San Antonio area community. I have always been treated fairly and any issue that I've had was resolved promptly with courtesy. They even tolerated a couple of Covid related late pick ups! The staff also does a great job packing stuff into your vehicle even when those collecting items aren't prepared! I can't say enough good about this established business. read more

Yea, something shady about this place. I was bidding online...yet "in house" kept winning as the gavel went down way too quick for the same bidder. 'makes me wonder what's going on between the auctioneer and one particular bidder. Note: This NEVER happens with Austin Auction, where as an online bidder I have time to place a bid, and actually win the item. Response to owner's comments: Puleeese: anyone watching the auction 1/26/20 saw for themselves, and witnessed numerous times the auctioneer saying "oh, I'm sorry, but I said sold..." repeat, as bidders were shut out, because you had "favorites." I for one, will not be back NOR would I ever consign anything to be auctioned at the lowest price to one of your favorites. read more

Vogt Auction is quickly becoming my go to place for unique finds. I always find something for myself or clients here. The staff is extremely polite and helpful. Tax and buyers premium are added to sales at this auction which is pretty customary. A good mix of dealers & end users, but this seems to make sold prices go all over the board. The owner Rob is extremely helpful and genuine (think he's the owner) check this place out on Tuesday's at 7pm!! read more

Love this Auction. I have been going here for years. Gene and his son Rob have been serving the community for many years and do a great job at bringing in quality antiques. The buyer's premium is a little high but you still pay far far less than you would at an antique shop. I have gotten so many great deals at this place. They serve food at the auction too. It's cheap and it's good! Bathrooms are clean, staff is friendly and the loaders are careful with your merchandise. read more

An item I dropped off went up for auction on November 2nd or 7th. After a month of not receiving my check I called to inquire. They said they had mailed it but I never received it so they sent out another check. Two weeks later I inquired again about payment and they told me that it was returned to them. So I gave them my office address which they said they would mail that day. Over two weeks later I still had not received it and to this day have not received it. I had to make an appearance in order to get payment. I don't know what's going on over there but I find it hard to believe that three checks were sent and never received. This has the odor of a scam. read more

I had my eye on a decorative box only. So I placed a bid online in absentia. During the day of the auction I got online to check the progress of my bid. In doing so, my mouse which has been giving me trouble ever since I spilt sweet tea on my computer desk decided to act up and inadvertently got stuck as I was navigating from Vogt's web site to Live Auction's web site, and unbeknown to me caused a bid on a nice but rather expensive table. A table that I certainly didn't want and could hardly afford. I didn't realize the mistake until I got the invoice. My heart sank. Oh no! At first I thought it was their error... an accounting or clerical error. Even the commission would be high to this widower with children, but after re-examining the time table of logging on... I realized the error was mine. I was sick inside. This was a rookie mistake and I've been auctioning since I worked as a teen ager in an auction house in Louisiana. I sent an email explaining my faux pas bid. I figured I was on the hook for at least the commission. I went inside to pay for the box and explain my situation. The young man had read my email and didn't hold my feet to the fire. He explained "Crazy happens" and allowed me to pay for my box only. I was so relieved I couldn't thank him enough. I'm not a 'high roller' but I do participate in Vogt's auctions whenever something strikes my fancy. This auction house is incredible! I wish I could remember the young man's name (I was too stressed). He was polite, professional and most of all... above board in all of the auction house's business dealings. Big disappointment! I tried the phone bid I got the call for my lot, after some bidding. I won and was told I have won the lot by the staff member, when I called to pay the invoice l found out I did not win. I guess the staff member dropped the ball and was not paying attention to the bidding after all. :-( read more

Tuesday night is generally when they have their weekly auctions. Usually, it is a container from Europe, loaded with furniture (large & small) and smalls (books, plates, clocks, etc). I've gotten fantastic deals here - solid wood, antiques. I paid $300 for a glass fronted bookcase and $350 for a nice china cabinet. At a recent weekend auction, a stained-glass fronted cabinet was only $660 and huge Persian-style rugs were going for $300. They also occasionally have estate items and Southern themed auctions. I would give this place 5 stars if I could always find something to buy there, but there are definitely nights when I am not interested in the inventory. I'm a huuuuge fan of HGTV's Fixer Upper with Chip and Joanna Gaines. I just don't have time to travel all the way to Waco and visit their Magnolia Store to furnish my client's homes. Fortunately, I found Vogt Auction right here in San Antonio!! I'm sure you've noticed all the rustic-chic-industrial design and furniture that have swept across most coffee shops. Well, you can find those same furniture and decorative pieces at Vogt for literally a fraction of the price. I found a one of a kind Grete Jalk, the mother of midcentury modern furniture, at one of their auctions! Those bad boys ebay for like $1000. And still, you're not quite sure if it's fact an original. But at Vogt, I won it for $150! And it was certified by their expert appraisers to be the original. This is definitely the place to shop if you are planning to decorate your home with very affordable yet unique, vintage pieces that you can't quite find at west elm, urban outfitters, or pottery barn. Don't be intimidated that you're at an auction either. It's actually quite fun. They are super family friendly with a great staff. Wonderful customer service. It's quite easy to bid. You just give them a call or show up for one of their auctions, usually on Tuesdays. You sign up at their front-desk. They give you a number. And you are ready to rock-n-roll! Love the energy during auction time though. Pro-tip: go there an hour early to view their lots, so you can game plan what you intend to bid on. It's pretty easy to bid on everything. I tend to get carried away during their Midcentury Modern Furniture Auctions, so don't be like me lol. Plan ahead if you can. read more

Growing up I wanted to learn the secrets of antiquing from my aunt who was is the ultimate Deal Finding Maven of cool old stuff. After a few weekends of waking up waaaay too early to drive neighborhoods and pick through yard sales to find an occasional gem in the rough I realized that her secret was simple: a lot of work and a lot of time spent on the quest. Fast forward to adulthood and trying to furnish my house with pieces as cool as the ones she's accumulated over the years. Lucky for me I found Vogt Auction, where I can find awesome pieces at incredible prices ALL IN ONE PLACE. I can even view before hand from the comfort of my couch!! If only it got better than this... The prices are super reasonable, but don't worry if the item creeps above the price you're willing to pay. I'm always looking for fun, new things to try around town so when a friend mentioned an auction to me, I knew I was in. I arrived at around 6pm and was promptly greeted by a gentleman at a counter. I wandered around, taking and sending pictures to a friend who lives in another state but LOVES mid-mod stuff. I wandered around and traversed both the show room and the back part which is more warehouse-y. The auction itself begins at around 7pm. You fill out some information, they give you a card with a number and you're all set to bid. The first auctioneer was an extremely engaging older gentleman. He was really fun to watch and listen to. It felt like a TV show. The auction consisted of soooooooooo many items. It was overwhelming towards the end because I was ready to go. I managed to hang in there until we got to the things I was asked to buy. I noticed that as time wore on, things were going for less and less. I think next time, I'd try to go later and just bid on the left overs for my own sanity and pocketbook I eventually got the hang of it after a couple of tentative bids. For less than I would've spent at IKEA (not counting the meatballs), I ended up with two great pieces that will be picked up at my home by my friend in a couple of weeks. One item came home with me right away because it was small enough to cram into the seat of my car. The other piece would've fit if not for my cars ridiculously shaped seats. One of the employees went above and beyond and brought it to my home in his personal vehicle. (He, of course, got a good tip.) The service was phenomenal. Everyone who works there is cordial, friendly and professional. I'm hoping to find more glassware in the future, but I'll definitely bring friends looking for interesting furniture at reasonable prices. read more

My mother recently past and I am in San Antonio to take care of her estate. She spent the past 20 years living in Europe buying antiques. Needless to say she had some very amazing pieces. There were a lot of pieces to sell and I needed a professorial help. Rob who runs Vogt auction promised me I would be able to get a good price of my mothers things if I went with him and that if I wanted I could put a minimum price on anything I felt was special. There were 3 pieces that were very special to my mother and that I wanted to keep for myself. Rob convinced me to let him use these 3 pieces for advertisement purposes and that I could put a minimum bid on them and if that minimum was not reached I could have the pieces back. This sounded reasonable as I wanted to get top dollar for my mothers things. He picked up my mothers large items 2 weeks before the auction and promised to be back for the small things and other items. That was the last time I heard from him. I called him several times during the 2 weeks to no avail. The day before the auction since I could not get hold of Rob I sent him a text message informing him at what minimum price I would accept those 3 pieces to be sold. I made sure the price was fair for what my mother had these pieces evaluated at (I had evaluations on all the pieces.) I did not speak with Rob again until several days after the auction, where I learned he had ignored my minimum bid and sold the 3 pieces I wanted to keep for whatever price he wanted which was 1/5 of what I had told him I would accept. I am so upset and distraut that my mothers prized pieces had been sold for next to nothing. He did many other shady things that I don't have time to get into here but regardless the point is Rob stole from me plain and simple. I am in the process of suing Vogt auction and will warn anyone away from them. This is theft plain and simple. read more
