Our visit was long overdue..... We had to swing by since our soldier is home visiting. The menu has changed a bit.... Unfortunately they stopped making pizza/ flatbreads. While the food is OK, the restaurant has good service and a friendly atmosphere. Staff are friendly and helpful, and this place is pretty busy with people hanging out after work. I enjoyed the chicken schnitzel - simple and tasty. Not pictured is the gravy that they gave in a separate container so that the chicken wouldn't get soggy. The Hen House appetizer (chicken sliders) were pretty good. Some of the chicken was tough, but the bread is sweet and the pickles they use are excellent. Tater tots are very good, no complaints. Super crunchy. The cinnamon roll is OK. Something about it doesn't feel like a classic cinnamon roll, as if they are using some other type of dough. Little tougher but flavor is still good. Really nice and chill spot. Customer service is awesome, and my server had great recommendations. The vibe here, and Third Street, in general reminds of downtown Upland and old parts of Whittier but with its own very unique charm. I saw bangers and mash and was curious to try. It was really good. My server said the menu items aren't true British recipes, and they have their own spin. Met a couple and hung outside with friends who ended up joining me. We all had a great time and convo. Minus one star for a couple menu items I saw here on Yelp that are no longer available: Winner Winner Chicken Dinner and Mac and Beer Cheese are gone. I'm so salty about this. It's my birthday and I wanted fried pickles. I put in a DoorDash order and they had a half off deal so they were $5. It's a good thing because there were a handful of pickles -- I would've been so irritated if I'd paid $10 for this amount. I wonder if they halved the amount too? Not only that, I knew I wanted ranch with the fried pickles. I was putting in a grocery order too, and I considered getting ranch just in case the restaurant didn't send any. However, I looked at the picture on the DoorDash menu (see attached menu picture vs reality) and it clearly showed sauce, so I didn't order any with my grocery order. Sadly, the fried pickles arrived with no sauce whatsoever. The tots and pickles were both super soggy, which I do try to be understanding about since I like to DoorDash orders, but I like it when restaurants cut a vent in the box to try to prevent this. I air fried them to try and salvage the order. The schnitzel was very good, but again, such a tiny portion for $23!! Mostly though, I'm just irrationally sad about my birthday pickles and really don't get how it happened. Does anybody eat fried pickles without sauce? read more

Where do I even begin? This bar/restaurant straight-up blew my mind. From the second we walked in, I was in love. The vibe? Fun, cozy, and gave me "this is my new hangout spot" energy. Let's talk drinks. I ordered the Bees Knees, and let me tell you--it was a buzz-worthy experience. Just gin, honey, and lemon juice, but it tasted like sunshine in a glass. It reminded me of a lemon drop that got its life together and started doing yoga. I wanted 12 of them. I almost did it. No regrets. Now, the food. I just need to know if the cook is single, because if not... I might have to rethink my entire marriage. This person understood the assignment on a spiritual level. I started with the small pretzel, a small spinach salad, and then my husband and I tag-teamed the sausage platter like we were competing on a cooking show. Everything was so good I had to close my eyes and whisper "wow" at least three times. The pretzel? Fluffy, buttery, golden perfection. I've had many pretzels in my life, and this one might just be my soulmate. The spinach salad? Who knew pistachios, blue cheese, tomatoes, cranberries, cucumbers, and a sweet dressing could make me feel feelings? I ordered a small and immediately wished I had a bucket-sized version. Then came the sausage platter--cue the dramatic music. It came with more cut-up, butter-fried pretzel pieces (yes, you read that right), a variety of smoked sausages including an incredible chicken one, and even chicken tenders that tasted like they were sprinkled with fairy dust. I don't know what spices they used, but I need them in my life. Maybe even on my popcorn. Oh, and let's not forget the pickled veggies--tangy little bites of joy that rounded everything out perfectly. I truly wish I had discovered this place sooner. A very casual eatery with a large selection of food for groups and beer. Exterior: Since it's on a main road, there is only street parking or a paid parking lot in the back of the stores. There's a couple of tables to eat outside, but majority of their seating is located inside. Food: The starters are really good to feed large parties and still have some leftover. It's mostly fried food. My party ordered the BLTA with fries and Sausage Party. We spent approximately $55, not including tax and tip. Service: Average but can get the work done. Overall, they can be attentive and helpful to customers, especially to the locals. Note: You can bring children in (at least around lunch time). There menu is easy to navigate, changes often while having staples and boasts the best happy hour in Chula Vista in my opinion. In addition this place is great for kids. My daughter loves the sliders. My wife and I are house fans of the Chicken Shnitzel and you can't go wrong from there. Always familiar faces working. Came on a Monday night and it was pretty packed with people watching the Padres game. Although we aren't huge baseball fans the bar gets pretty lively during the games and we enjoyed it but it's something to note if you don't prefer that type of environment. We are so lucky to have a such a great spot like Tavern that close by no traffic is a plus. Good food another plus and German food too plus a large pretzel is a the best here too goes well with good beers. Their large selections of beers are amazing on tap here. outside seating. It's on 3rd Street it's on the end of 3rd so you can walk parking great if you come early. Music is great too. There's TV's with sports of course Baseball is on :).
