They took great care of our large party for a birthday. Yummy burgers and great service

We were that large group that showed up 45 minutes before close, but yet we were greeted with such welcoming in hospitable staff. Angel is the man and treated us so well and was so kind to our group's birthday girl. I had the original Balboa burger and it was a nice change from all the smash burgers trends. Everything tasted so fresh and delicious. The meat was seasoned well and the sauce was a great compliment. Apparently they make the buns in house as well, and they were so light and held the held the burger well together. A bunch of the group got the garlic fries and I opted for the salt and pepper fries. The garlic fries did pack a punch, but because of all the garlic they did tend to be a little bit soggy. I am glad I went with the salt and pepper so flavorful yet stayed crunchy and delicious. We are one of the last groups, but it was a nice space and can host large groups well. I will be returning so my wife can experience this. read more

​Great food, but a bit confusing when you first arrive! It was our first time here before a concert and the inside was packed. After waiting around to be greeted, we learned the empty tables were reserved but we could sit anywhere out back (luckily it was a nice day). There wasn't much direction and it took a minute to get menus, but the kitchen saved the day. ​Our food came out super fast. My La Reyna Chicken Salad was absolutely delicious, even though I had to rush through it. The pastrami burger, BBQ bacon burger, and fries the rest of the table ordered looked just as good. Definitely worth a visit for the food, just be prepared to navigate the seating yourself if it's busy! read more

Came here for my friend's birthday and just want to say that the staff here is so friendly and really made it fun for her bday. Atmosphere is great and while parking might be a little busy on the main strip but easy parking on the street behind the restaurant. Thanksgiving eve...I've been off of work all week...might as well just enjoy the time off and not cook! Met up with a friend who lives in the area. Cako also needed to be out so why not? They had a Thanksgiving special: turkey burger, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, and gravy!!! Why not??? This was large! And I would've ate it like a regular burger, but the mashed potatoes would've been all over the place! So knife and fork...and it was like an open face sando! Soooooooo good! Good burgers but very overpriced, and my burger could've used a bit more seasoning. The garlic fries with aioli were delicious. $5 for a side of it with your burger or $10 for a la carte, which is fair. 60 cents to add pickles. Extra charge if you want your onions grilled. Customer service was lacking. I asked for no tomato and my burger still came with it. We asked for waters all around and only I got water since I didn't order alcohol. We had to remind the server for water for everyone else and when we got the pitcher of water, the water had a weird, unfiltered after taste. The server also placed the stack of plastic cups upside down on the table. Gross. Considering how sticky the menus were, I definitely didn't trust the tables so we didn't use the cup that touched the table. The server never checked on us after we received our food. Micheladas are great though. I won't be returning but I'm glad we gave this restaurant a try. read more

I can't believe it's taken me so long to leave a review. This is a regular staple for our house. The owners are some of the kindest most generous souls you'll ever meet. They have loved and embraced this community and do so much to give back. Seriously come look at everything they do around the holidays and all the families they take care of. This little spot is getting busier and deservingly so. The burgers are delicious. The menu is small but everything is done incredibly well and consistently. Well, well, well...THE BURGERS HERE ARE GREAT! We stopped here for Friday Night dinner because we just wanted a good burger. Everyone is always raving about this place, so we came here. The parking is Chula Vista 9a-6p is metered along this street, so keep that in mind. We pulled up at about 6:40p and found a meter spot right out front, score. No meter fees after 6p is great. We were immediately welcomed by a hostess/server upon arrival. She had great energy and found us a table right away, then seated us. We sat at a table for two in the corner, not ideal but it worked for us. The nice hostess/server took our drink order shortly after she seated us. The menus are small, concise, and right to the point. There is a Happy Hour called the "Chisme Hour" and they have a list of featured $5 cocktails. We ordered: 1 BBQ Bacon Burger + Extra patty, Garlic Fries, 1 Pastrami Burger, "La Guera" (Vanilla BDay Cake) shake, and the Chocolate & Peanut Butter Shake. We were checked on every 5-7 mins by the great staff. Everyone was so customer service oriented and very much interested in our comfort as diners. Our shakes came out first and we took them down right away, like dessert before the meal; perfect. Our food arrived in about 12-15 minutes. THE BURGERS are LARGE! The garlic fries are potent and could have used more salt, and still good. My daughter's BBQ Bacon double patty was not seasoned well, but the toppings helped with the experience. My Pastrami Burger was good. The pastrami is a bit thickly sliced for my taste, and it is tasty. Overall, the customer service is great here. We were in and out in about 40-45mins..which was super quick. There is Latin Pop, Reggaeton, and Salsa music played while dining. Thanks for the good time, it was a short time, but good. read more

In the mood for a burger, I decided to come down The Balboa South because a friend suggested this place. Saying this is one of her favorite places, she was not wrong. Without exaggeration, I say this place has one of the best burgers I've tasted. I had The Centennial with garlic fries and unsweetened iced tea. It was the perfect meal for the day. Even though In N Out is a standard go-to, I feel like Balboa is more along the lines of a high-quality gourmet burger. Their ingredients are fresh, and the bread is home-made. As I sit here, the dining area is full of patrons with lots of talking, activity, daps, hugs, and laughter. Hang out inside. Te music is awesome, and I struck up conversation with complete strangers. If you come with friends, you'll have a great time. Good vibes, good food, good drinks, and good times. You can't go wrong here. I'm looking forward to try a different burger or sandwich next time. This place is definitely a downtown Chula Vista staple. we have never had a bad experience with food or service here. We've brought friends and family here and our neighbor Skip loves this place; we've come here with him a couple of times. Even ordered to-go/pickup. It is conveniently located on 3rd Avenue with parking available in front or behind the establishment in parking lots. From beer on tap to their black bean burger to hamburgers and fries, and specials offered. Sports going on, you better believe that they will be broadcasting! Most recently, I was craving fries and vanilla ice cream and out bartender/waiter was able to accommodate my request! They are busy during the weekends but do offer inside and outside seating. We came in as a party of 12 with only 40 minutes until closing, and Angel still welcomed us in with no hesitation. He guided us to the back, made sure we had menus in hand, and ensured our orders were placed before the kitchen closed. To keep things easy, we went with the Tuesday family meal deal: four Balboa burgers and two large bowls of fries. The food came out quickly. The burgers were well-seasoned, and the aioli added a perfect balance to the flavor and toppings. The fries -- both the salt & pepper and garlic -- were crispy and perfectly cooked. (Get the garlic fries -- they're a must. So garlicky, in the best way.) Even after closing time, we never felt rushed to finish our food or drinks. Came to Balboa South in Chula Vista to celebrate my husband's birthday and we had such a great experience! Let's start with the important part--the burgers are legitimately delicious. Juicy, perfectly cooked, great flavor... honestly zero complaints on the food quality. The fries were crispy, well-seasoned, and totally worth ordering (which brings me to my one small gripe). Everything is à la carte here. The burger prices are fair on their own, but once you add fries and a drink separately, the bill creeps up faster than you expect. It's not outrageous, just something to know before you go. Parking is another minor headache-- it gets tight quick, especially on weekends. Plan to circle or park on the street if you have to. Now the good stuff that almost makes up for it: the service was phenomenal. Our server was attentive, friendly, and genuinely made the night special. When they found out it was my husband's birthday, they went above and beyond--brought out a cake with a sparkler and made him feel like a king. Our favorite hamburger place in all of San Diego! We come here at least 2-4 times a month and have tried almost everything on the menu. My personal favorites are the Centennial Burger and the chicken sandwich--both are amazing. The fries are really good too, and we love the variety on the menu.
